Ogerpon-W may look gentle, but its Leech Seed strategy is very vicious. Thanks to its great Speed tier allowing it to effectively use the combination of Leech Seed and Substitute as well as general good matchups against Skeledirge and Manaphy, Ogerpon-W proves to be a defining threat in 1v1. Power Whip improves the matchup versus Primarina, which can otherwise use Encore on Ogerpon-W and then beat it with Moonblast. Alternatively, Ivy Cudgel threatens the aforementioned Skeledirge as well as Donphan. For the last moveslot, Spiky Shield makes it easier to stall out foes with Leech Seed and allows Ogerpon-W to protect itself from any potential Custap Berry-boosted attacks. The Defense EVs allow Ogerpon-W to survive Psychic Fangs from Choice Band Metagross, while the Special Defense investment allows it to survive the combination of Blood Moon and Vacuum Wave from Ursaluna-B. Ogerpon-W's Flying and Poison weaknesses allow it to be checked by Pokemon like offensive variants of Corviknight as well as Volcanion's Sludge Wave. As such, Pokemon like Raging Bolt and Zapdos make for good partners. Ursaluna is also a great partner, as it beats both Hisuian Goodra and Sylveon, two Pokemon that are bad matchups for Ogerpon-W.

Ogerpon-W mag sanft aussehen, doch seine Leech Seed-Strategie ist äußerst gnadenlos. Dank seines hervorragenden Initiative-Tiers kann es die Kombination aus Leech Seed und Substitute sehr effektiv einsetzen und profitiert zusätzlich von starken Matchups gegen Skeledirge und Manaphy, wodurch es zu einer prägenden Bedrohung im 1v1-Metagame wird. Power Whip verbessert das Matchup gegen Primarina, das Ogerpon-W sonst mit Encore festsetzen und anschließend mit Moonblast besiegen könnte. Alternativ bedroht Ivy Cudgel sowohl das zuvor genannte Skeledirge als auch Donphan. Für den letzten Moveslot erleichtert Spiky Shield es, Gegner mithilfe von Leech Seed zu stallen und schützt Ogerpon-W gleichzeitig vor potenziellen Attacken, die durch Custap Berry verstärkt werden. Die Defensive-EVs ermöglichen es ihm, Psychic Fangs von einem Choice Band-Metagross zu überleben, während die Investition in die Spezialverteidigung dafür sorgt, dass es die Kombination aus Blood Moon und Vacuum Wave von Ursaluna-B übersteht. Durch seine Schwächen gegenüber Flug und Gift kann Ogerpon-W von Pokémon wie offensiven Varianten von Corviknight sowie von Volcanions Sludge Wave zuverlässig gecheckt werden. Deshalb eignen sich Pokémon wie Raging Bolt und Zapdos hervorragend als Partner. Auch Ursaluna ist ein starker Teampartner, da es sowohl Hisuian Goodra als auch Sylveon zuverlässig besiegt, zwei Pokémon, die schwierige Matchups für Ogerpon-W darstellen.
