2012/2013 Soccer/Football thread

Because the US is destined to always suck. Plus Honduras isn't that bad of a team. Also lol Mexico is tying at home against Jamaica right now in the 80th minute. And Hernandez has an apparent head injury..sorry phalanx.

As for the England-Brazil game, I loved the way Wilshere played, he's gonna be the new game changer for England.

Hope THAT Wilshere NEVER shows up in the premier league.Everyone's saying that England played well but this game was more about Brazil's bad performance imo. They only got their goal by taking advantage of a defensive error and came close to leveling the scores in a similar manner.Btw did anyone see Perreira's own goal vs Ecuador? HILARIOUS.Ronaldo's finish was classy and Ecuador's winning goal was pretty good too.

Okay Phalanx,we'll replace Benitez with Mcleish if you give Fergie a slighlty early retirement and hire Mark Hughes.
And I'm really looking forward to United's humiliation at the hands of Madrid next week.

Brazil didn't play bad. They have been bad for a while now. There's a reason why they are 18th in the world ranking.

This generation of brazillians is not as good as the previous ones. Weird team selections coupled with an insistance on calling up local players that are inferior to the brazillians playing in Europe is going to halt their progress.

And IMO wilshere is already world class. Dat close control, dat ability to glide past players, dat eye for a killer pass, dat positional awareness and dat awareness on when to run in the space. He's a complete midfielder.

That said, the sooner cleverley stops getting selected, the better for everyone. No better than henderson.

Was seriously wondering who Xhizors was... Have you always had "was Nosferalto" in your sig?

And yeah I didn't see the England match but Wilshere's getting some rave reviews. I'll just assume he played as well as the 10/11 season when he got Arsenal player of the year ahead of Fabregas, RVP and Nasri. If he doesn't get any better at all, and just keeps up his level of performance he will be a great player. If he gets better he can be challenging for best player in the world.

cleverley should be playing in the championship. He has zero qualities

carrick on the other hand has matured into a fine holding midfielder. I'm very much interested in seeing him against Real Madrid to see how he does when put under intense pressure as it's pretty easy to look good against the Wigans and Sunderlands of this world who roll over and lose against Man Utd.

and to answer your question N_L_I, no.

Gerrad is the captain and the first name on the team sheet.

lol @ cleverley vs wilshere
cleverley is 3 years older and contributes absolutely nothing.

I love how the utd bros are saying cleverley and wilshere are the future of england as if they were on the same level. wilshere shits all over wilshere. in fact, leon britton shits all over cleverley.

Why the hate on Cleverley? Wilshere is absolute class, and I'm not denying he deserves his place ahead of Cleverley in the England team, but to call him championship quality is far too harsh. Just look at the stats phalanx posted, he's nearly inseparable from Wilshere.

Also would like to point out that Wilshere is a big fish in a small pond, whilst Cleverley is a big fish in an ocean; in other words, Wilshere's brilliance is amplified due to him playing for a worse team than Cleverley. Same reason Neymar looks brilliant in Brazil, but played like a fucking donkey yesterday.

try looking up Celeverleys pass completion rates before saying he is rubbish.
and whether Gerrard is captain or not, doesnt mean Carrick wouldn't play in the position Gerrard played in the match against Brazil, just behind the centre midfield is the perfect role for Carrick.
nothing to do with who supports who, stats do not lie.
i don't think Neymar has lived up to expecations at all, he wasn't that good at the olympics either.

i think neymar suffers from the expectations, if he wasn't hyped up to be the next pele people would think he's actually good (because most of the time he does play well and deserves his spot in the brazil team)

not sure why brazils fifa rankings position is being pointed out, there's no way england are the 6th best team in the world (although they are probably top ten)

i thought carragher had already retired, guess i'm just ignorant lol

Two points that I can't agree with.

Cleverly and Wilshere are very similar in passing stats, but passing stats rarely tell us anything meaningful since many players like Allen have near 100% pass completions with huge numbers of passes. In chances created however Wilshere is on another level, same on balls won, interceptions, duels in the air, all of these are far superior than Cleverly. But stats are stats and you can only get a feel for how a player plays by watching them, and you'd have to say Cleverly doesn't look nearly as dangerous as Wilshere when he gets the ball.

Second point about Wilshere being in a small pond doesn't make any sense. He plays in the same league as Cleverly, facing the same opposition. If you're talking about having no competition for his position in his team, well that isn't true either since Wilshere has had to compete with Rosicky, Fabregas, Flamini, Song, Diaby, Nasri and now Cazorla and Arteta while Cleverly is in the (imo) much smaller pond of Scholes, Giggs, Carrick, Fletcher, Park, Anderson... and now Kagawa. Wilshere has been proving himself week in week out against the Wigans, Evertons, Chelseas and his performance didn't change when Barcelona came around. And this was 2 years ago... If anything, it's Cleverly that has been in the small pond of the reserves until recently.

edit: biased arsenal fan video coming up, but wilshere really is pretty good and exciting to watch!

Neymar just turned 21, you cant reasonably expect him to be one of the 10 best players in the world at this age, the hype is over how good he could be in a couple years...

I rate Cleverley quite highly but he just doesn't have that spark that Wilshere has. and i dunno why you posted that statistics article as though it enforces your claim when it clearly says:

It is in this category that Wilshere’s class shines through. Held in high esteem for his passing ability, the fact that he has completed 39 dribbles compared to Cleverley’s 4 is a sign of his versatility.
That could be crucial for Arsenal and England teams in the future.
Cleverley meanwhile, has only crossed the ball 21 times this season, much less often than Wilshere who has attempted 54.
It is in the number of chances created that we see perhaps the greatest difference between the two players. Wilshere (33) has created twice as many chances in total as Cleverley (16) this season. Furthermore, Wilshere is creating a clear-cut chance for his teammates every 425 mins compared to every 608 mins for Cleverley.

In the games ive seen of cleverly this year about 25% of games hes very good, 25% hes decent, 50% hes easily the worst player on the field for united. Maybe hell develop some consistency, but as it is now, hes pretty uderwhelming imo
