FAQ:
1. What are Seasonals?

- Seasonals are large Double Elimination Tournaments held in the Circuit Tournaments Forum on Smogon which pretty much take around 14-15 weeks to finish fully. Each round you will be paired up with an opponent and play a Bo3 USUM Doubles OU Match (you will be allowed to switch teams between games). This will be held in the Winter, Spring, and Fall this year only so that the Summer has more room open for the Doubles OU Tour. The First Seasonal's signups are here.

2. What is the Smogon Doubles Tour?
- The Smogon Doubles Tour is a tournament similar to the Smogon Tour. It consists of 9 weeks of live tournaments and concludes with a playoffs of the top finishers point wise. The tiers played will be the current plus 2 most recent Doubles OU Tiers (SM DOU, XY DOU, BW DOU). Each week one of the 3 tiers will be format for the live tours and they will cycle between each week until each format has been played for 3 weeks each. The thread for the previous iteration of the Smogon Doubles Tour can be found here

3. What is the Doubles Ladder Tournament?
- In this tournament people will be signing up alts to ladder and endure a full week to rank as high as possible. The highest ranking finishers may earn a spot in the playoffs. This cycle will continue for a few weeks and end in a single elimination best of 3 playoffs between those who qualified. There may be some small changes to this general format but the previous iteration of the Doubles Ladder Tour can be found here.

4. What does BFL mean?
- BFL, or Best Finish Limit, is a restriction that limits how many placings you may count for your Circuit Point totals and is also used in the Official VGC Circuit. 3 Seasonals with a BFL of 2 would only count your top 2 Finishes even if you played in all 3, and if you played less than or equal to 2 Seasonals it would count all your finishes. The idea behind a BFL is to reward high placings and not consistently average performances. It also becomes a safety net for people who for whatever reason have a bad performance, cant play in that specific season, or have to drop out midway because of extenuating circumstances.

5. When do the tournaments happen?
- Check out the third post in this thread for a full schedule of all the tournaments going on this year!

16th: Yoda2798 (17 points)

Congratulations to all of our qualifiers! If you think that your point total is wrong (whether you are on this list or not), please contact any of the doubles forum moderators (talkingtree, Level 51, Arcticblast, or myself) and we will look into it. As with last year, we have a significant tie for the last slot in the year-end invitational tournament. This tie will be broken with a playoff, information regarding which will be posted later today. Speaking of which...

Re: Tiebreaks

Ties for positions that don't involve one player failing to qualify for invitationals were broken using each user's win % across all best-of-three sets that they played in circuit tournaments, regardless of whether or not said tournament counted towards their BFL.

AuraRayquaza, lady lumps, and Mint16 were all tied for 5th place with 31 points. AuraRayquaza has the highest win % at 67.86% (19-9), so he will be the 5th seed. Mint16 and lady lumps have both identical win percentages (66.67%) and set records (14-7), and never played each other in a best-of-three set during this season. As such, their tie was broken with a coin flip. Mint16 will be the 6th seed, and lady lumps will be the 7th seed.

Croven and Mishimono are tied for 10th place with 23 points. Croven's win % is 75.86% (22-7), while Mishimono's is 68% (17-8). Croven will be 10th seed, and Mishimono will be 11th seed.

Mr.GX and The Cheesen One are tied for 12th place with 20 points. Mr.GX's win % is 62.5 (10-6), while The Cheesen One's is 58.82% (10-7). Mr.GX will be the 12th seed, and The Cheesen One will be 13th seed.

Kaori and AtmosphereVGC are tied for 14th place with 18 points. They have identical win percentages (66.67%), but nonidentical set records (12-6 and 10-5, respectively). In this scenario, the higher seed will be given to the player with more set wins. As such, Kaori will be the 14th seed, and AtmosphereVGC will be the 15th seed.

There is a 4-way tie for 16th place between the following users:
  • nvakna (win percentage: 75%, set record: 9-3)
  • Sasa (win percentage: 65%, set record: 13-7)
  • Vallex (win percentage: 61.11%, set record: 11-7)
  • Yoda2798 (win percentage: 50%, set record: 8-8)
As mentioned, the 16th seed will be determined by a playoff, which will begin later today.

If there are any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact any of the forum moderators.

All point information and tiebreak numbers can be found in the 2018 Doubles Circuit spreadsheet.

Massive thanks to talkingtree for crunching these numbers and to Level 51 for maintaining the immaculate spreadsheet once again.

Good luck to all players in the invitational!
