Hello everyone and welcome to the playoff edition of this year's NU circuit! It's been a fun year (Pokemon-wise) and the tours we've had some good stuff going on. Now, it's time for the players who proved themselves worthy (through hax or not) to duke it out for that much-coveted NU Circuit ribbon

Congrats to the 16 of you who made it this far to win it all for NU this year. Wish I could've made it here myself, but alas you all did very well and all it did was motivate me and others to get here next year! Anyway, Round 1 matchups are below.

Rules
  • This is a standard Gen 8 SS NU tournament.
  • This tournament will be Single Elimination.
  • All rounds will be Bo3.
  • You may switch teams in between battles of the same set.
  • Matches are to be played on Pokemon Showdown; you must play on either Smogtours or the main server.
  • Replays are mandatory for each game you play! I recommend playing on Smogtours so that they are automatically saved. DO NOT HIDE YOUR REPLAYS.

  1. Identity: I expect many battles to be completed under alts. This can be bad for tournament security, and thus I will make this clear: If I hear any whispers of identity theft (battling as someone you are not) or proxy battling (helping someone else battle through pm) I will not be pleased and I will take severe actions.
  2. Scouting: Don't leak teams. Keep in mind when laddering and testing teams that you may encounter another player on an alt account; thus, I recommend not playing under your Smogon username. (I also recommend you use a different avatar then usual). I give permission to all battlers to ask any person spectating their battle to leave if they do not want them watching, and recommend you follow the aforementioned procedure and /modjoin or /ionext for all test games. Keep in mind that everyone will have access to your replays from earlier rounds of this Circuit Tournament.
  3. Timer Clause: Keep Battle Timer on for these games. I recommend playing on Smogtours. Battle Timeout is a rule for a reason; timer management is a necessary skill, and if you run out of time, you lose, simple as that. It does not matter what your opponent says. If you ask your opponent to turn off timer due to internet issues, etc., they can do so, but it is their right to refuse. I recommend that all such requests be made only if necessary; if it is necessary, notify your opponent before the series begins. Do not battle if you think you will have to leave mid battle, and instead reschedule for a better time.
  4. Disconnections: Finally, in the case of a disconnect, the decision is in the hands of the player who did not disconnect. The options are: redo the battle move for move, redo the battle with the same teams but different moves, or redo the battle with completely different teams. If the battle was without a doubt over, they may also take the win. Any suspicion that a disconnect was committed on purpose to redo a match may be appealed to me, and if I feel this happened there will be severe consequences. Don't do it.

Goldcat vs Charmflash: I’m a little biased here, but i feel like Goldcat will come out on top on this matchup. Really liked his play from what I saw. But I am not biased enough to straight up bold them vs a player like charmflash who is no slouch and is probably the better player. Should be a good one that I am most definitely looking forward to.
kythr vs GW: kythr’s great, definitely a top dog in this tour. I think GW is good but didn’t have a good year at least compared to kythr.
Xiri vs Expulso: go expulso go, he has great grasp on the metagame and definitely a good player at the very very least. Convinced he is a good contender to taking it all, but Xiri is pretty good too. I predict this one to be very close and might be the series I’m most looking forward to.
S1nnoh vs TNunes: I love TNunes and he’s awesome at the game, instand bold…
OnArceus vs Drud: go Drud go
Finch vs Elias: strongest player strongest builder should win convincingly
Enzo vs S*nsei: s*nsei is probably the strongest contender this year but he’ll lose cuz he’s s*nsei and he can’t win that much in that little amount of time sorry

(1) GoldCat vs. Charmflash (16) - Sure, I'll pick the upset here. Admittedly I'm just not as in-tune with GoldCat as a player, but I felt Charmflash played his SCL games pretty safely and methodically when given advantages.
(2) kythr vs. GW (15) - kythr has probably played more Pokemon lately than esteemed Mario speedrunner GW. Play-wise I think they're close enough to on par, but putting my faith in the mental of GW is too tough an ask here.
(3) Xiri vs. Expulso (14) - I rate Xiri's playing ability more highly than Expulso's :blobshrug: I think Expulso will put in far more prep for this series, though, which could end up helping him here
(4) S1nn0hC0nfirm3d vs. Thiago Nunes (13)
(5) OnArceus vs. Drud (12) - idk guys he brings an alolaneggy named above the haters that's kinda epic
(6) Elias PSY vs. Finchinator (11) - I have no idea why I'm picking Finch to win this when I said GW would lose to Elias due to mental diff, but here we are
(7) TeamCharm vs. zS (10)
(8) Enzo Gorlami vs. sensei axew (9)

The tier shifts that happen tomorrow ARE NOT in effect for the remainder of the playoffs. If any of our current mons rise to upper tiers, please challenge in at least that meta! Thank you​

Just to follow up on this, tier shifts have happened and again, they ARE NOT in effect for the remainder of the playoffs. Bronzong may have moved to RU and Politoed to ZU, but please either challenge in SS RU or use the following preferred format (courtesy of roxiee)
