"Unfortunate" doesn't begin to describe my series, this game rewards blind luck and nothing else, I am beyond convinced at this point. After getting completely tooled by scheduling with my opponent changing times on me last minute and refusing to provide confirmation prior to the day of the match as to play times, losing this way somehow felt even worse than I had thought possible. My preparation was superior, my play was superior, and I lost, so I don't see a reason to continue engaging in an activity where what is within my control is overwhelmingly outweighed by what is not.

I am done with competitive Pokemon, and you won't get a fond farewell. This community is infected to its roots with a degenerative disease that grows stronger over time but stops short of killing its host. Tournaments used to have a competitive spirit at their heart, this has been transplanted and replaced with an artificial organ that feeds on vitriol and mockery from insecure little boys that heckle by the sidelines and tear each other to shreds over scraps of attention. The environment we fostered has trapped us all like this in a vicious cycle, and escaping it requires acceptance of the harshest reality we all scramble to explain away, that none of the countless straining efforts we put ourselves through here will ever amount to one single shining glimmer of significance. I would make this the end, but World Cup is still ongoing, and I would never leave so many great friends out to dry, so I'll suffer through a few more games for them.

One last thing before I leave you all to react with disdain, ridicule, and self-righteous fervor, before you do everything in your power to minimize my words and thoughts, box them up and shove them to some cobwebbed corner of your memory, and hope they disappear forever as a stain on your finite time ground to dust. From this moment on, nothing you say matters to me. The foulest insults you hurl with intent to wound will calmly settle at the earth before my feet, and the venom you spit will bring all the pain of a warm summer breeze. You are less than anything you can conceive, while I carry on, brimming with joy distilled from detachment.

In the Discord a discussion started about possibly suspect testing Dracovish, Pelipper or rain, and we're bringing it back here for the record. So here's my two cents:

To me rain feels like the strongest weather, though not by that much. Sun and ice are pretty decent too. (Sand feels a little underwhelming for how strong the individual Pokémon on those teams are, too many overlapping weaknesses, not enough speedy mon.)

Pelipper feels like the strongest drizzle user, the one you want if you're doing a rain team. Without Pelipper rain wouldn't be quite as good. It has STAB Hurricane and Surf (for a combination with a Storm Drain or Water Absorb user, as an alternative to Swift Swim) on its good stat and only really has a bad matchup against electric mon, because most rock types don't really want to come in against a rain team. And Roost is always a nice option to have. To me it doesn't feel like Pelipper is a problem though, because while it dominates rain rain is only a small part of the meta, and rain itself is not really overpowered, just good. Pelipper furthermore has a low enough speed and HP that it can be taken out one way or the other. Especially in a doubles battle where Roost just isn't quite as reliable to the point where Pelipper often runs choice specs.

Dracovish is definitely one of the strongest currently legal creatures and a pain to encounter. If one of the opponents four mon is a Dracovish, that's usually the one you try to counter most with your two picks. Dracovish is a strong pick independent of the presence of rain or any other specific support (since strong jaw is often preferred over water absorb or sand rush anyway). It does a lot of damage, outspeeds most opponents and for such an aggressive mon is quite hard to take out with a single counter-hit. If any of these three things (Pelipper, Dracovish or rain) would come under suspect, I would expect it to be Dracovish. Although I'm not sure how I would vote if I were actually asked to vote for it. It doesn't have access to any of the game breaking "I guess Game Freak didn't think of that" move combo's or such that often get a mon or a tactic banned or borderlined. It has one stupendously strong attack that outspeeds most of the metagame, because the way to make the attack so stupendously strong (rather than the just very strong it gets from STAB, its good stat and its ability all coming together) is to invest in speed.

As the metagame is progressing, the council has elected to hold a Dracovish suspect test.

Dracovish has been a defining Pokémon in both the singles and doubles metagames, and has seen widespread use in 2v2 Doubles. Dracovish's Fishious Rend attack is one of the most powerful moves ever released and lacks negative side effects. In singles, due to a larger team size, most teams are able to run a dedicated defensive counter for it, as well as a faster Pokémon that can revenge kill it. In 2v2 doubles defensive Pokémon are less viable, and Dracovish's teammates can run Tailwind, Quash, or Protect+Disable support options to prevent fast Pokémon from getting a hit off before dying to its Rend attack. Its respectable bulk and good defensive typing means it's very hard to take down Dracovish in one hit, making dedicated defensive counters or Fake Out options a requirement when facing it.​

How to vote:

• Make an alt with 2DVS in the name (not spread out, but together)
• Have at least 30 games on the alt
• Have a gxe of 70 minimum
• Vote BAN, DO NOT BAN, or ABSTAIN
• I would appreciate at least a small and reasonable explanation of why you voted as such.

Got reqs, haven't made up my mind yet but I'm leaning towards no ban. I've used/faced this thing a lot and it's never felt overbearing from either side. All of the things that facilitate it in this meta (fake out, tailwind, other speed control, etc.) can just as easily neuter it. Also really hates storm drain/ any bulky water resists which are common cos rain is hella good. I could be persuaded but I haven't seen any particularly convincing arguments.

I wanted to provide more to this meta cos I'm a huge fan of it but I've been super busy. While I'm here procrastinating my study figured I'd drop a team.

This team has been incredibly reliable for me losing only one game through three tournies and being one of my two laddering teams for reqs. It's been through a lot of evolution since it was made when Dynamaxing was legal and had bounce, ddance, LO Gyara. Chu and Gyara are a combo as old as my Nan and still works great here. Exca and Gyara are another pairing with great synergy. Geezing was honestly only included cos it beat one of the sample teams that I knew my opponent liked to use in the first tour but honestly I've been enamoured with it since. It's coverage is fantastic and while it's power is occasionally underwhelming it's bulk makes up for that
Notes:
- Chu only really needs fake out and tbolt, I tried a bunch of shit in the other slots and they all weren't great. It's super fast so you can usually get a screen up before you die to a stiff breeze and that screen can really make a difference. Encore is a good option too. Give my boy follow me again why would you take it away Gamefreak

-Avest Intimidate Gyara is actually so hard to kill even with no bulk investment. Max HP sets are also good tho

- Exca with sand rush and balloon pretty much counters sand teams all by itself with the support of Gyara usually. Mold Breaker makes it a bad partner for Geezing unless you use High Horsepower but I found protect to be more generally useful, stopping fake out from popping balloon.

- Levitate is better than Gas on Geezing because it synergizes really well with Exca. Gas blocking Gyaras intimidate is also a pain and in general with Gas Geezing you really need to build the entire team around it to be effective (though it certainly can be effective especially fucking with weather). LO and tbolt can also be put on Geezing for more damage and so you don't have to use Chu when it's otherwise bad cos you absolutely need electric coverage.

This set is pretty much the team building equivalent of going full retard, but it got me to 16th place on the ladder with 1407 elo yesterday, at the end of the month when everyone had their game faces on and their serious teams out. That might even be why it worked, it's off-meta enough that serious teams may not have a counter.

The strategy is simple: use surf, unless you have a good reason to use something else. Gastrodon sees a lot of use on this team for its Electric immunity. It's also a decent bet against Steel and Fighting types, and Storm Drain (plus being the slowest member of the team) gives it great punch. Jellycent is good versus Fighting, Psychic and Normal types. It can be good against ghosts, but at a big risk of being killed before it can do anything. Lapras is the main counter to the Grass types that are the bane of this team (luckily that's mostly Whimsicotts that use their first turn to set up tailwind or otherwise boost a teammate that isn't nearly as big a threat to this team), and anything that flies or kidnaps fairytale princesses. Dracovish is the most out of its element here and as a result sees the least use. While it is the fastest mon here and still has a pretty good defensive typing it also has the lowest special attack and offers little in terms of coverage because it plain doesn't have too many good special attacks. Particularly ones more diverse Pokémon with Storm Drain or Water Absorb start getting released it won't be too hard to replace it. If you're adapting this team as 2 members of a full set Dracovish is also the first to drop.

Most of the time you click sableye + whimsicott, but if the opponent has a dark type, weezing, hatterene, indeedee, or alcremie, it may be worth considering using hitmontop or ferrothorn. The strategy with sableye+whimsicott is to protect with both on turn 1 to scout out moves and waste a turn so that you can use disable (If you’re ballsy you can disable on a predicted follow me user t1 to stop those shenanigans). Turn 2 you will want to target the bigger threat and use disable + encore on that threat. This forces that pokemon to use struggle the next turn. The next turn you disable + encore the opponent’s other pokemon to force them to struggle. After this point you can use leech seed and night shade to chip the opponent down and kill them. If one of the pokemon uses a status move t1 you can encore that and disable the other pokemon to only have to focus on one opposing pokemon. If both opposing pokemon use a status move t1 you can encore them both. Hitmontop is pretty simple, fake out t1 and use coverage to beat dark types, wide guard if they are going to use a spread move like earthquake. Ferrothorn can soak up hits and leech seed or do damage with power whip or gyro ball.
Taunt can be replaced with moonblast on whimsicott to be able to beat dark types.
Overall pretty powerful team on ladderome more aware opponents will be able to beat this team but it does well enough.

With the lack of a ladder even since 2v2 Doubles became a UM in Generation 7, one of the many problems people have with 2v2 is the lack of playability, even though a community of people willing to play the tier. In order to Facilitate that, Here's the 2v2 Playability project.

Here's the premise:

There will be 2 phases to each cycle: A Discussion Phase and a playing Phase. Both of these will be approximately 9 days, depending on how we do it.

Discussion Phase:

• Essentially talking about the Metagame as a whole, trends suspects, etc.
• The discussion has to be of reasonable quality, not just consistent one-liners.

Playing Phase

• 4-5 Day signup phase.
• A 9 day playing phase in pools, the pools depend on the player count, and whether it’s even.
• If people have an even record, the winnings will be divided, or the verdict will be decided via off-forums tournament
• You'd have to state which games you’ve won / lost

The winners of both phases will be given 100 kyubits (1v1 forum room currency) at the end of the two phases.


Really, the only question now is, which kind of format do you want for the playing phase?

Here are the two:


Small Pool Bo3’s

• Players have small pools of approximately 3-5 players that have to bo3 everyone in the pool.

Huge Bracket Round Robins:

• Essentially I split the PL (depending on size) in half and make a round robin for all players.

We may not be technically part of 1v1 anymore, but lets be real here; the majority of 2v2 players have came from the 1v1 forum, and we have had tournament representation in their team tours.
