In 2v2 Doubles, Tyranitar primarily plays the role of a Tailwind abuser. It's convenient speed tier combined with its high Attack stat and good coverage moves allow it to OHKO many Pokemon that are prevalent in the metagame such as Pheromosa, Genesect, Naganadel, and Kyurem-Black. Its typing allows it to deal defensively with Pokemon such as Victini, Incineroar, and Tornadus. Secondarily, it plays a more utility focused role, targeting Indeedee-F and Togekiss that can disrupt your teammate, as well as negating foes Berries with Unnerve. Crunch allows Tyranitar to OHKO the incredibly strong Indeedee-F, while Stone Edge allows it to OHKO Togekiss as well as a variety of other Pokemon. Fire Punch allows Tyranitar to reliably OHKO Pheromosa, Genesect, and Whimsicott. Protect is an incredibly important move in 2v2 Doubles, and allows Tyranitar to both block Fake Out. 252 Attack EVs with an Adamant nature give Tyranitar as much damage as possible in conjunction with Life Orb, and 252 Speed EVs allow it to outspeed Pheromosa in Tailwind. Rock Slide also allows Tyranitar to OHKO Pheromosa while ignoring redirection, but in turn loses to Genesect.
Tyranitar's ability Unnerve is a very important one in 2v2 Doubles due to the widespread use of items such as Haban Berry, Chople Berry, Sitrus Berry, and Aguav Berry which are utilised by Zygarde, Kyurem-B, or Togekiss. The presence of Unnerve allows Pheromosa to OHKO Chople Berry Kyurem-B, Tanga Berry Indeedee-F, and Yache Berry Whimsicott. Genesect is similarly able to OHKO Tanga Berry Indeedee with the help of Unnerve. Tyranitar's ability to OHKO two of the strongest users of Follow Me in the metagame, Indeedee-F and Togekiss, allows it to help teammates who struggle against redirection such as Tornadus and Naganadel. Tyranitar pairs exceptionally well with both of the Prankster Tailwind users in Whimsicott and Tornadus. It's convenient speed stat of 221 allows it to outspeed positive Speed nature Pheromosa by one point and OHKO with Fire Punch or Rock Slide. Tyranitar's coverage also allows it to OHKO Pokemon such as Genesect, Kyurem-B, Naganadel, and Cinderace, so the presence of Tailwind helps by allowing Tyranitar to outspeed these opposing Pokemon. Tyranitar pairs especially well with Tornadus, which can OHKO threats to Tyranitar such as Rillaboom and Amoonguss, which is a redirection user that Tyranitar cannot OHKO. Tyranitar also pairs well with those same redirectors that it has good matchups against. Redirection plays a similar role to Tailwind in that it ensures that Tyranitar can hit its targets without being hit itself, so Pokemon such as Indeedee-F, Togekiss, and Amoonguss are all good partners.

Other Options
=============
Sand Stream is a somewhat viable ability for Tyranitar due to the increased Special Defense that it gives. In addition, Sand Stream can enable teammates such as Sand Rush Dracovish or Dracozolt to double their speed, which is helpful in conjunction with their signature moves Fishious Rend and Bolt Beak. However this is not ideal, as the loss of Unnerve can hinder teammates that may be attacking an opponent with a type resistance berry such as Chople Berry or Haban Berry Kyurem-Black. Heavy Slam can be used to OHKO Diancie, which many of Tyranitar's common teammates such as Pheromosa, Tornadus, and Whimsicott struggle with.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Fighting-types**: Tyranitar's four times super-effective weakness to Fighting-type moves makes Fighting-types a definite check to Tyranitar. Pokemon such as Pheromosa and Urshifu-Rapid are hard for it to deal with without teammate support.
**Ground-types**: Pokemon such as Zygarde and Landorus-T are able to hit Tyranitar for super effective damage with moves such as High Horsepower, Thousand Arrows, and Earth Power.
**Rillaboom**: Rillaboom is an especially difficult Pokemon for Tyranitar to deal with due to its access to Grassy Glide. This allows Rillaboom to OHKO Tyranitar first even if Tailwind is active.
