Saleem can we restart this round? I thought you sent out charmander but if you don't want to it's fine.

I am disinclined to allow a re-order on the basis of a battler not paying attention until after his opponent has ordered.

Unfortunately, guys, rules are rules. Saleem explicitly said he was sending out Churi, the Pawniard. The round will proceed as normal.

And we're off! The long-awaited start to this beginner's battle is finally underway! On one side, the intrepid Bro, unfazed by...well...everything, and on the other, Churi, the go-getter Pawniard. Wait, I'm getting major deja-vu here, is this the XY Little Cup ladder? No? Nevermind.

The action starts fairly quickly, as Bro begins to wind up for a devastating combo--BUT WAIT! Churi cuts in with a devastating Sucker Punch, catching Bro quite off guard and hitting for some massive damage. After Bro regains his senses, he focuses his psychic energies into a mind-bending combo of Confusion and Psychic...except since Churi is Dark-type, his whole plan goes out the window. Nice try, though! Maybe he was just a bit of a...slowpoke?... That wasn't even good, who am I kidding.

Bro staggers back from the exhaustion of preparing his useless combo, and in that small window, Churi blankets the field with some spooky rocks. Bro seems as unaware as ever!

Bro reels back from the pain, but finally realizes what he needs to do to actually hit Churi for some damage. Raising the powers of torrential waters from his soul, he--BUT WAIT! Churi seems to really enjoy using Sucker Punch at the worst possible times. This nasty punch took off yet another chunk of Bro's health, but this time, the Slowpoke came prepared with some gnarly waves! The waters rushed over the arena and poor Churi doesn't seem to know how to hang ten.

action 1
Churi used Sucker Punch, -6 energy, no crit, deals 8 (BAP) + 3 (STAB) + 4.5 (Atk) - 4.5 (Def) *2 (SE) = 22 damage

Bro used Psychic+Confusion, -(3+6*1.5=13) energy, it doesn't affect Churi

action 2
Churi used Stealth Rock, -12 energy

action 3
Churi used Sucker Punch, -6 energy, no crit, deals 8 (BAP) + 3 (STAB) + 4.5 (Atk) - 4.5 (Def) *2 (SE) = 22 damage

Bro used Surf, -7 energy, no crit, deals 9 (BAP) + 3 (STAB) + 3 (SpA) - 4.5 (SpDef) *1(Neutral) = 10 damage

Our combatants are both in fine condition for this round, but anything could happen, now that the battle is picking up speed. How will Bro respond to the onslaught of super-effective moves?

Churi doesn't seem to want to wait, and picks the action back up with a crafty Night Slash, which hits a vital spot for massive damage. Bro isn't looking too good at this point, but he's as eager as ever to get revenge against his bladed adversary. The arena rumbles with power as the water from the pool in the middle bubbles, twists, and billows into a gigantic wave! The Double Surf! This looks to be a bit too much for our pokey friend Churi, as he gets swept under the waters for some great damage.

After all that work, poor Bro has to take yet another breather. Churi senses this, and, from under the waves, he skillfully fades away, and reappears behind Bro for a Feint Attack! While certainly not as hard-hitting as his other moves, the type advantage is really kicking in for Churi's damage.

At this point, Bro is definitely not looking well. He's been beaten, cut, and cut some more, forcing him to go on the defensive this turn with a spot-on Protect. A barrier forms and Churi's next Night Slash doesn't leave a scratch.

action 1
Churi uses Night Slash, -5 energy, crit succeeds, deals 7 (BAP) + 3 (STAB) + 3 (crit) + 4.5 (Atk) - 4.5 (Def) *2 (SE) = 26 damage
Bro uses Surf+Surf, -31 energy, crit fails, deals 20 (BAP*2.25) + 3 (STAB) + 3 (SpA) - 4.5 (SpD) = 21 damage

action 2
Churi uses Feint Attack, -4 energy, crit fails, deals 6 (BAP) + 3 (STAB) + 4.5 (Atk) - 4.5 (Def) *2 (SE) = 18 damage
Bro cooldown

action 3
Bro uses Protect, -15 energy (7 + (20/2.25=8))
Churi uses Night Slash, -5 energy, crit fails, deals 7 (BAP) + 3 (STAB) + 4.5 (Atk) - 4.5 (Def) *2 (SE) = 20 damage, but the move fails

Now that GX Prodigy has switched in his Beldum, Meteor, we're going to see plenty of new action coming into the battle. How will Churi respond to these defensive orders?

It looks like a calm moment on the battlefield, as Meteor stares Churi down with its one eye, preparing its move. Churi stands there, and lowers its blades to begin performing a Swords Dance in preparation for Meteor's orders. Churi looks a lot sharper now, and you know what they say about bringing a knife to a Pokemon battle. Wait, no, that doesn't make sense. Looks like Meteor is trying something! The Beldum focuses and bolsters its defenses with Iron Defense, drawing stray metal from the arena to it and fusing it to its body. That Beldum looks a lot shinier and a lot bulkier now.

A rather passive action in the arena mandates that someone has to strike first. Churi takes up that opportunity, following his trainer's orders to not dance consecutively, and throws out a painful Night Slash with its newly boosted Attack stat. The attack hits hard, and the boosts cancel out, so the move does its intended damage. However, the sheer hardness of Meteor's body causes Churi's blade to collide in a shaky way. Meteor seems completely focused on defense this round, as it makes itself even bigger and shinier with another Iron Defense. This is going to be one tough floating metal eyeball to crack for Churi.

Now that the action isn't consecutive for Churi anymore, he prepares yet another Swords Dance, and the amount of sharpness on this Pawniard is overwhelming now. Meteor refuses to do anything but refine itself, it seems, as it goes for yet another Iron Defense. I don't think I've ever seen a Beldum be this big. Is there even any stray metal left to attach to itself? Probably not. Poor little guy seems to be pretty exhausted, though.

Churi uses Swords Dance, -7 energy, +2 Atk
Meteor uses Iron Defense, -7 energy, +2 Def

action 2
Churi uses Night Slash, -5 energy, crit fails, deals 7 (BAP) + 3 (STAB) + 4.5 (Atk) - 6 (Def) * 2 (SE) + 4 (+2 boost) - 4 (+2 boost) = 17 damage to Meteor

These two Pokemon are neck in neck, but one of them still has the clear type advantage! We saw a lot of boosts and passive play last round, so let's see how it all turned out.

Meteor is done bolstering itself, and rears back for a--BUT WAIT! Churi's reliable friend Sucker Punch comes through once again, smacking Meteor square in the...claw? for some solid damage. Now that Meteor has regained its senses from the shady attack, it slams directly into Churi with an Iron Head, dealing some decent, but resisted, damage. Is anyone else distracted by all the loud metal clanging? I have a feeling it's going to get worse.

Once again, Churi isn't compelled to spam, and instead goes for a Night Slash, scratching against Meteor's hardened exterior and cutting straight in. Eugh, it's like nails on a chalkboard in here. Meteor retaliates with another Iron Head, smashing itself into Churi, critically so. Churi is sent back flying from the force, but the damage is still resisted, so this little knife is still going.

I don't even think I need to do any more dramatic narration for when Churi cuts in with Sucker Punch. It's happened so many times. At this point I'm wondering if Sucker Punch is its only move. The poor floating metal eyeball isn't looking too good, and it's using up a lot of energy, but another Iron Head hits Churi square in the chest. Meteor's going to wear this Pawniard down, one way or another.

action 1
Churi used Sucker Punch, -6 energy, crit fails, deals 8 (BAP) + 3 (STAB) + 4.5 (Atk) - 6 (Def) *2 (SE) - 4 (Boosts) = 15 damage to Meteor
Meteor used Iron Head, -6 energy, crit fails, deals 8 (BAP) + 3 (STAB) + 3 (Atk) - 4.5 (Def) * .67 (NVE) = 6 damage to Churi
