Challenge 4th Generation Battle Facilities Discussion and Records

Hi everyone! Hereby I’m posting an ongoing streak of 504 in the Platinum Battle Tower, singles. The streak is on retail.

504_proof_zoom.png

Originally my plan for getting a solid win streak was to use a (solo) Drapion team with an Uxie lead and Skarm with Sturdy in order to stop QC OHKO bs. I had done many attempts with this team, but I wasn’t quite satisfied with certain weaknesses it still possessed, no matter how much I theorymon’d my strats. The other thing about that team is that it is incredibly slow to have to set up Drapion everytime, since it’s your only win condition.

I grinded my way to over 400 wins with the solo Drapion team, but I eventually lost at battle 415. After that loss, I told myself I wasn't going through that ordeal again, and that I would use a faster team for the first couple hundred battles until I would consider doing attempts again with the solo Drapion team.

During my attempts with this "faster team," I changed my mind because I ended up enjoying using it, so I kept using it which led to my current streak of 504!

The team:

latios gen 4.png

@ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EV’s: 252 hp, 212 def, 44 speed
Bold Nature
IV’s: 31/16/31/31/31/31
- Trick
- Thunder Wave
- Flash
- Memento

registeel gen 4.png

@ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EV’s: 252 hp, 100 atk, 146 def, 12 sp.def
Careful Nature
IV’s: 31/31/31/30/31/31
- Substitute
- Curse
- Amnesia
- Iron Head

garchomp gen 4.png

@ Lum Berry
Ability: Sand Veil
EV’s: 252 atk, 252 speed, 4 def
Jolly Nature
IV’s: 31/31/31/31/31/31
- Substitute
- Swords Dance
- Outrage
- Earthquake

The team I use is very similar to Peterko’s team (and others using Registeel) except that I use Latios over Latias, so credits to him. Huge credits to Jumpman16, Peterko and Magpie in general for getting 2k+ streaks. That is absolutely insane, especially in the Platinum/HGSS Tower.

I prefer Latios over Latias because he's one of my favorite Pokémon, and I prefer looking at him rather than Latias for an extended period of time, which is what happens during Battle Tower attempts. As stated before, the team originally wasn’t meant to be my main team but I enjoyed it so I kept going with it. Using Latios gives me access to Memento, which I always been a fan of since it gives me more flexibility in setting up Garchomp on opponents locked into status moves or low PP moves. It also has the benefit of not having to risk switching in Garchomp and taking a crit from a "safe move". There are situations Charm + Latias’ slightly better bulk would come in handy, but overall the team has been working well! Latios has been given 44 speed EV’s in order to reach 136 speed, which is enough to outspeed Metagross4 after Trick.

Registeel and Garchomp are self-explanatory. Registeel sets up on everything that is able to break Garchomp’s Sub. If Registeel gets frozen I PP stall the ice move and will set up Garchomp on Struggle. I always want to try to have a sub up with Registeel when the 2nd Pokemon comes in. This can mean that I will try to make the lead Pokemon die to Struggle while I'm using Substitute in case it breaks my current sub with a Struggle crit. Garchomp is given 4 Defense EVs to achieve an odd HP stat, allowing it to use Substitute four times. If I have the opportunity I will try not to sacrifice Latios.

Threat list:

• Rampardos1-4: Scary situation for this team.
I came up with the following 2 strats:
Strat 1:
1. Start with Memento
2. If it used Head Smash > Switch in Garchomp, switch to Registeel
3.
- If it's Rampardos4 > try to set up with Registeel. If Registeel dies to crit > try to set up Garchomp.
- If it's Rampardos3 > switch back to Garchomp (Ramp3 will use Fire Punch). Set up 1 SD naked (Head Smash does max 36% damage). Try to sub. Should have 2 subs left..
Strat 2:
1. Switch to Registeel.
2.
- If it's Ramp4 AND it used EQ > switch back to Latios. Use Thunder Wave > switch back to Registeel > Sacrifice Registeel > Use Memento with Latios. If Latios got crit > use Thunder Wave. Switch in Garchomp. Set up Garchomp naked. Kill Ramp4 at +2
- If it's Ramp3 switch to Garchomp and and kill it with EQ, possibly leaving me at low HP Garchomp or Registeel..
• Rampardos3: If I know it's Ramp3, I can use Trick + Memento, then go to Garchomp. If Head Smash crits Latios, I probably go Registeel, but that's still a shaky situation since Registeel won't have enough time to set up.
Another strat is to switch directly to Registeel, then to Garchomp and and kill it with EQ, possibly leaving me at low HP Garchomp or Registeel..
Ramp3 is dangerous.
• Rampardos4: if I know it's Ramp4, I can lead with Thunder Wave. It's 50/50 in using either Head Smash or Earthquake against Latios. If it crits Latios with Head Smash, I'll attempt to set up Registeel. EQ can't OHKO Latios with a crit, so I can switch to Registeel, sac it if necessary and then use Memento with Latios. Then set up Garchomp.
• Rhydon4: An opponent that has crushed many high streaks on the leaderboard. QC Horn Drill OHKO is almost a guaranteed defeat. Really hate
• Machamp3: if Machamp3 QC Ice Punch freezes me I'm dead. Really hate
• Abomasnow1-4: Hail is annoying, really limits me in setting up. Locking Abomasnow into Sheer Cold is also dangerous if he keeps hitting Garchomp’s sub. Hate
• Rapidash3: Leading with Trick is too risky, cause it outspeeds Garchomp and can be locked into Horn Drill. Best to lead with Thunder Wave, then switch to Registeel. If Latios dies to Horn Drill, switch in Garchomp.
• Kingler3: Leading with Trick is too risky, cause it outspeeds Garchomp and can be locked into Guillotine. Start with Thunder Wave. If Latios dies to Guillotine, burn Guillotine PP with Registeel. Kingler3 is dangerous, since it can break Registeel's sub with Crabhammer when Registeel's defense stat isn't raised.
• Gliscor3: I'm dead if it is locked into Guillotine and it hits 4 times in a row.
• Wailord4: switch between Registeel and Latios to burn Blizzard and Fissure/Hydro Pump PP.
• Lapras2: dangerous if it Quick Claw OHKO's Latios. Best to switch in Garchomp and try to use Substitute.
• Empoleon3: best to switch between Registeel and Latios and burn Blizzard PP because of Quick Claw.
• Salamence4/Garchomp4/Dragonite4: When locked into Outrage it can be risky if it crits Registeel. Immediately set up Sub with Registeel against them. Outrage does 11 hp damage at +6 Registeel defense
• Zapdos1-4: could be locked into U-turn which is annoying. I prefer to lead with Thunder Wave against it.
• Weavile1-4: Trick is the preferred option here, because Weavile4 has Brick Break + Razor Claw + it outspeeds Registeel even when it is Paralyzed. This all makes it very shaky to justify Thunder Wave. Locking Weavile into Ice Punch is still scary since it can freeze Registeel and with a couple crits it could be over and then I lose.
• Yanmega1-4: Switch to Registeel immediately since it could be U-turn Yanmega2, which is annoying when it U-turns on Latios. Another option is to lead out with Memento, but then U-turn Yanmega2 can still be problematic.
• Gastrodon4: switch between Registeel and Latios to burn Earth Power and Ice Beam PP. Then Flash x6 + Memento.
• Staraptor4: Safer to use Trick over Memento since CB Staraptor hits like a truck with crit. Then set up with Registeel

• vs PI trainers try to set up Garchomp, because 2nd Pokemon can be QC Donphan for example giving Registeel trouble. For example when I face Pinsir lead and lock it into X-Scissor -> count X-Scissor and PP stall, switch back to Latios on Struggle, use Thunder Wave + Memento.
• vs Psychic trainers I try to set up Registeel, because the threat of timid Latios/Latias, Espeon and Alakazam outspeeding Garchomp. Focus Blast Alakazam is then huge threat for Registeel
• The same goes for Dragon Tamers, since they have quite some Pokemon that outspeed Garchomp.
Some battles I recorded, everytime I passed a new hundred mark.

Battles 197-203:
Battles 295-301:
Battles 400-406:
Battles 498-504:

Is it mostly the sprites that are different in this mod?
I don't know what you mean. The appeal of this mod clearly lies in the fast HP bars.

I think this is a great streak and part of a valuable cross-generational effort to demonstrate how good Weavile is (Peterko, turskain (Subway Crustle unforgotten), Lumari) -- fast Ice STAB is "basically Moonblast", Dark has great complementary neutral coverage as always, Heatran hits everything (I assume) that resists both of Weavile's attacks, and Ice + Ground is another standard coverage package for very good reason -- unfortunately there are no good STAB Earth Powers in Gen4. Ice + Fighting is really good too (and benefits further from Dark coverage), possibly worth exploring (Infernape for double FO?)

I endorse your idea of HP Grass Zappy coverage -- this move is what catapulted Suicune from decent to great in Gen5 for me and afaik Brucolac as well, for the same reason that all Waters need checking, although Zapdos obviously has less frequent need for it than Cune. It's usually better to introduce another attack type into the mix than double up on one, even if the coverage is nominally better on the individual mon, in 4v4 facilities (offense) teams -- the instructive example is Gen7 EisenRain running HP Fire specifically for one Pokémon (the potato) because it is otherwise unmanageable with the attack mix

as for Fake Out leads, think there is some potential in Gen4 Kangaskhan and perhaps Raichu (even without LRod here, because pure Electric is simply a great type), too

Also I believe that a purely-cosmetic mod should not be an obstacle to getting featured on any leaderboard, nor should pure engine improvements like faster HP bars; the one sport-relevant thing I could see that this mod actually seems to affect is Attract hax

I do think it has a niche that is not yet explored enough, with its speed, coverage and not the least a freeze-immunity. I just wanted to say, that I believe more people would have given it a shot if it had a guaranteed KO on Latios (or Starmie).
Interesting pick of Heatran as co-lead btw, I guess it has nice synergy. (Heatran imo is also underexplored in Doubles. I think people are afraid of EQ, but in practice it's not such a big problem, at least by my experience)

Coeur7 yes, HP Grass on Cune was very necessary on my team.

Yeah, I think you're right about Weavile.
Magpie has used Heatran in Arcade Doubles and so have I in some test runs. Imho it's a great mixed attacker for Doubles, but it really needs a lot of support. Still, it has a pretty relevant niche: it's basically the only fire type you can use for serious streaks

Hi all, I'm a new poster but long time lurker. I just went on a streak of 123 (losing battle 124) in Soul Silver Battle Tower doubles. I wanted to post since it seems like that is in the top 25! Here is the battle video of my loss (google drive link): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-djkjLdROSnzeGMjd3v1fVcFny70ONRU/view

It was an unexpected streak but also an unfortunate ending to some freeze hax. The team is quite strong and can auto pilot. The optimization I think I would make is go Lum on Metagross based on this experience since I often switched into Ice types.

Here is the team I used. It was the DisQuake strategy:

Zapdos @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 Def
- Discharge
- Heat Wave
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Protect

Garchomp @ Yache Berry
Ability: Sand Veil
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw
- Rock Slide
- Protect

Latios (M) @ Expert Belt
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psychic
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Protect

Metagross @ Occa Berry
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 100 HP / 252 Atk / 156 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Iron Head
- Bullet Punch
- Earthquake
- Protect

I frequently used Explosion with Metagross in singles, but wasn’t sure what I’d cut here. I even just recently dropped Meteor Mash for Iron Head to improve accuracy. I used Bullet Punch often for many Ice types and liked the Earthquake coverage. Also felt protect was mandatory alongside the spread users. What set with Explosion could I try?

Hi guys! Taking a brief break from my long Smogon retirement/hiatus for this update about my run in the Battle Factory. I've tried running the factory in HeartGold on and off for years at this point, usually for a couple weeks at a time, and it's the only facility I hadn't gotten a gold print in yet. I've beaten all the other facilities, completed my National Dex, got a 100+ win streak in the Battle Tower (204 to be exact) for a black trainer card, gotten all the ribbons on my team, and done pretty much everything else there is to do. It's the only thing left in the game.

After not having played Pokemon all year, I decided last month to pick it back up again and try, this time with the help of the tier list made by magpie ai and the preset damage calculator. My previous record was in the 30s despite numerous attempts, but the made a huge difference this time. Although I lost countless times in every round, including multiple times in the 30s and once to the Thornton rematch, I finally broke through for my gold print.

IMG_0121.jpeg

Given how many attempts I made, I only kept notes on the teams and battles starting with the first Thornton matchup. My notes may not be perfect and have a lot of shorthand for moves, so fair warning. That said, here's how it happened:

Thornton 1: Magcargo1, Ursaring1, Gabite2 vs. Leafeon1, Tentacruel1, Blissey1
Lava OHKO after Blade (miss + Acid vs. DT x2), Tentacruel Surf OHKO, Ursaring Slash 3HKO after Barrier + Surf x2, Blissey W-Pulse KO, Gabite EQ OHKO

Slightly concerned when the Tentacruel came out, but I ended up fine.

Round 4 Draft: Ambipom1 (Pickup), Blastoise2, Togekiss1 (Hustle), Manectric2, Gardevoir2, Yanmega1 (Tinted Lens)

Blastoise2, Gardevoir2, Ambipom1 vs. Donphan1, Torterra1, Salamence1
Waterfall 3HKO after Jab + flinch, Fall 3HKO Torterra after Slide miss + flinch + crit, Salamence Ace KO Blastoise at ~40%, D-Claw crit OHKO Gardevoir, Ambipom S-Claw x2 KO after Tail miss

Blastoise2, Gardevoir2, Salamence1 vs. Aerodactyl1, Pinsir1, Hippowdon1
Blastoise Fall OHKO after Ace flinch + Slide, Pinsir EQ KO after SD x2 vs Fall x2, Mence Ace KO, Hippo Crunch KO after exchange at ~40%, Gardevoir Psychic KO

Pinsir1, Gardevoir2, Salamence1 vs. Seaking2, Kabutops2, Cherrim2
Pinsir SD sweep

Pinsir1, Kabutops2, Salamence1 vs. Prinplup2, Magmar2, Chansey1
Pinsir SD sweep (Magmar used Focus Blast)

Pinsir1, Magmar2, Salamence1 vs. Umbreon1, Arcanine1, Muk1
SD X-S OHKO after Curse, Arcanine F-Fang flinch + Wisp + E-Speed KO Pinsir after EQ to red, Magmar Psychic KO after F-Fang, Muk Jab KO after Psychic + burn, Mence D-Claw KO after Sneak

Pinsir1, Arcanine1, Salamence1 vs. Quilava2, Machoke2, Hitmonchan2
EQ OHKO, Machoke Counter Pinsir to red after X-S to ~65%, Mence in on Counter and Ace sweep

Pinsir1, Machoke2, Salamence1 vs. Gastrodon2, Houndoom2, Weezing2
SD X-S KO after Yawn, Mence in on Houndoom T-Fang, D-Claw 2HKO after Endure + Reversal, Mence beats Weezing after Pinsir sac

Not the best draft to start. Getting Salamence and Pinsir was huge, even if they were a pain to face. The first battle was a little lucky with dumb AI, while the Hippowdon was scary just because I lost to a longer streak to one previously. After the first two battles, there was nothing too cumbersome.

Round 5 Draft: Meganium2, Magnezone2, Milotic3, Jolteon3, Tyranitar3, Houndoom3

Meganium2, Milotic3, Tyranitar3 vs. Wailord1, Ninetales1, Swampert1
Drain KO at full after seed vs. DT + Beam, Milotic in on F-Blast miss, Pump miss Sun, Tar in on Beam charge, Tail OHKO, Swampert EQ KO after Superpower, Meganium G-Drain KO

Meganium2, Swampert1, Tyranitar3 vs. Muk2, Exeggutor2, Snorlax2
Swampert EQ OHKO, I-Punch 2HKO Eggs after Ingrain, EQ 2HKO Snorlax

Muk2, Swampert1, Tyranitar3 vs. Drapion2, Scizor2, Kangaskhan2
Tar in on Fling, Swampert EQ OHKO after Jab PSN + Payback, Scizor ID + NS + PSN KO after Fall x2, Muk F-Punch KO after M-Claw, Kang Dizzy 2HKO after Jab PSN, Tar Superpower KO after T-Punch

Kangaskhan2, Swampert1, Tyranitar3 vs. Nidoqueen2, Infernape2, Wailord2
Pert EQ OHKO after Jab PSN + I-Punch crit, Fall OHKO Ape after S-Claw, Wailord Whirlpool + PSN KO after EQ x2 to red, Khan T-Punch KO

Infernape2, Swampert1, Tyranitar3 vs. Sceptile1, Rampardos1, Froslass1
B-Kick OHKO after miss vs. Screech x2, Pert EQ OHKO Rampardos after Facade, EQ Froslass to red, Tar in, sand KO

Infernape2, Swampert1, Froslass1 vs. Rapidash1, Abomasnow1, Vileplume1
T-Punch 2HKO after sun, B-Kick OHKO Abomasnow, B-Kick OHKO Vileplume

Infernape2, Swampert1, Abomasnow1 vs. Umbreon3, Meganium3, Luxray3
B-Kick + burn 3HKO after Faint x3, B-Kick crit OHKO Meganium, B-Kick 2HKO Luxray after T-Fang miss

I'm not sure why, but I feel like round 5 is usually where things fall apart for me. Meganium was huge for the first battle, while Swampert carried a lot of weight after that. Swampert is one of my favorite Pokemon, both in competitive and on cart. My Swampert was huge in getting me to 204 the Battle Tower, so it was nice to see it come in handy here. Also, Infernape almost single handedly won the last 3 battles, showing why it's so good in DPP formats, despite a less than ideal moveset.

Round 6 Draft: Jynx3, Charizard4, Jolteon4, Swampert4, Marowak4, Ninetales4

Jolteon4, Charizard4, Swampert4 vs. Politoed2, Yanmega2, Weezing2
T-Bolt 2HKO after Dive, T-Bolt OHKO Yanmega, Weezing Payback KO after T-Bolt, Zard AP KO

Jolteon4, Charizard4, Swampert4 vs. Blaziken3, Tentacruel3, Miltank3
Zard A-Slash OHKO after EQ, Surf + Sludge KO Jolteon after T-Bolt para to red, Pert EQ KO, EQ 3HKO Miltank after Dizzy x3

Tentacruel3, Charizard4, Swampert4 vs. Jynx2, Dewgong2, Shuckle2
Surf vs. Lovely, Zard in on Eater, B-Burn KO, Dewgong Disable fail, Tentacruel wins with Sludge + G-Drain, Surf vs. Swagger, Pert Tail KO after Attract fail

Tentacruel3, Charizard4, Swampert4 vs. Blissey2, Slowking2, Honchkrow2
Cruel wins with Sludge PSN (switches for PP), Pert in on King ZHB, EQ 2HKO after Curse, Avalanche OHKO Krow after Pluck

Tentacruel3, Charizard4, Swampert4 vs. Dugtrio2, Metagross2, Pinsir2
Surf OHKO after sand, Coat OHKO Meta after Psychic, Zard B-Burn OHKO

Metagross2, Charizard4, Swampert4 vs. Raichu2, Hippowdon2, Tyranitar2
Pert EQ OHKO after hit self + F-Punch, Zard in on Hippo EQ, Tar in on A-Slash, Pert in on T-Punch, Tail KO after miss, Tail 2HKO Hippo

Metagross2, Charizard4, Swampert4 vs. Heracross4, Quagsire4, Gallade4
EQ crit OHKO, Zard A-Slash OHKO, Quagsire Fall crit + Fall 2HKO Pert after EQ, Zard A-Slash KO, A-Slash 2HKO Gallade after Psycho

This was an interesting round. It was a good enough draft and situation that I didn't really end up trading all that much. Swampert (again, with a similar set) and Charizard formed a dynamic partnership the whole round. The first 5 battles went off without a hitch, although stalling Blissey out of Softboiled on cart sucked. At least I had Spain vs. France on. Battle 6 was mildly worrying with Raichu confusion shenanigans, but battle 7 was the real doozy.

To start, I really should've switched Charizard in turn 1, since Heracross can't do anything to it. This compounded with the Quagsire critical hit on Swampert, meaning Charizard had to hit Air Slash 3 straight times. Given how much luck is
involved, I really shouldn't have put myself at risk like that. It was careless and suboptimal play, and I almost got punished for it. It took 2 crits and would've needed another miss or crit, but worse losses have happened.

Round 7 Draft: Heracross2 (Guts), Toxicroak3, Swampert1, Tangrowth3, Absol4, Flygon3

Flygon3, Swampert1, Heracross2 vs. Jolteon3, Cradily3, Dugtrio3
EP miss, Pert EQ miss, Swapping on Yawns, Pert EQ KO after SB drop SB, Hera in on Cradily G-Drain, CC OHKO, Dug Ace KO, Flygon Meteor OHKO after NS

Flygon3, Swampert1, Heracross2 vs. Ambipom4, Luxray4, Hypno4
Pert EQ KO after I-Punch x2, Luxray Crunch drop EQ to red, Hera in on I-Fang, NS KO, Hypno Psychic KO after NS to red, Flygon EP KO

Ambipom4 (Pickup), Swampert1, Heracross2 vs. Jynx3, Dewgong3, Yanmega3
F-Punch OHKO, T-Punch 2HKO Dewgong after Sheer Cold miss, F-Punch 2HKO Yanmega after Silver Wind

Ambipom4, Swampert1, Heracross2 vs. Slowbro4, Raichu4, Empoleon4
T-Punch 2HKO after Room + Surf, recoil KO Ambi, Pert EQ OHKO Raichu, EQ OHKO Empo after Peck

Ambipom4, Swampert1, Heracross2 vs. Shiftry4, Jolteon4, Vileplume4
F-Punch 2HKO after S-Punch, Pert in on Jolteon Bolt, EQ OHKO after S-Ball, Plume E-Ball OHKO after I-Punch, Ambi F-Punch KO

Ambipom4, Swampert1, Heracross2 vs. Pinsir3, Electrode3, Meganium3
F-Punch 2HKO after X-S, Pert in on Thunder, M-Rise EQ rain Fall OHKO, Meganium Storm OHKO, Hera CC 2HKO after Wring

Ambipom4, Swampert1, Heracross2 vs. Registeel3, Cresselia1, Gastrodon4
Pert in on T-Punch, EQ crit OHKO, Cress in, SolarBeam x2 vs Fall + Protect x2, Sun vs Fall, Protect vs. SolarBeam, Hera in on SolarBeam, Psychic crit OHKO, Psychic beats Ambipom, Pert Fall beats Cress after sun down and Psychic x2, EQ 2HKO Gastrodon after Surf

I was very happy with the draft, as I got my beloved Swampert yet again, this time with the same set as round 5. The first 2 battles went smoothly. I swapped out Flygon due to the warning about ice types, which was a good decision, since Ambipom came up huge. The only threat in that battle ended up being a Sheer Cold miss by Dewgong. From there, I kept that team the rest of the round, as Ambipom and Swampert dominated. I think I was at risk to a Slowbro crit, but that was really it for the next 3 fights. The AI wasn't super smart with Shiftry in battle 5 or Pinsir in battle 6, but neither likely would have mattered given what was in back.

The Thornton rematch was crazy, especially given that I had lost to him a few days ago. I really didn't want to come so close to lose yet again. The critical hit from Swampert was nice, though I'm not sure how much it mattered. Cresselia really worried me, but it didn't set up the sun for a couple turns, which was nice to get some chip. Eventually it did, and I decided to switch in Heracross on a SolarBeam. Unfortunately, Heracross lost a speed tie and got knocked out by a critical hit Psychic without getting any damage off. I thought I lost right there, as my previous Gold Print battle ended with a lost Heracross as well.

Eventually, Cresselia beat down Ambipom, with sun boosted Fire Punch doing mediocre damage, especially after a Moonlight or two. However, it was in the deep yellow, and 2 Waterfalls from Swampert with the sun down were able to handle it after Cresselia just went for Psychic twice. If it set up the sun the first turn, I would've lost. When the Gastrodon came out, Swampert just needed to avoid a critical hit and knock it out with 2 Earthquakes.

I took a video of round 7 on my phone and am working to upload it, although the export is taking forever. This streak is still current, so I will also update this post with how the streak ends, but at this point, I'm just happy to have gotten to 49. Maybe it will be like the Battle Tower, where I finally reached my goal of 100 wins after losing multiple late runs (including one to unavoidable hax on the final battle), and ended up smashing my goal by a mile.

Big thanks to all the people who have put resources here. Glad I was able to do this. Now back to my hiatus.

EDIT: I was able to get a recording of the Thornton fight since I saved it to my Vs Recorder. Unfortunately, the rest are gone due to a lack of storage on my phone. You can see the Gold Print battle here.

Well, somehow this streak is still going on. I'm now up to 63 wins after 2 more rounds tonight. I made sure to take more screenshots this time to document my progress, especially since I'm entering pretty weird territory. I'm not really sure how I've made it this far, but you can read about it below.

This round started off pretty easy. The draft was great, and I didn't really expect to have to trade much. The first 3 battles were fairly easy, and I was never really at risk. Battle 4 went well, as the decision to take Ampharos for the flying type warning paid off. Battle 5 was very lucky though, as I needed Togekiss to survive a range from Electivire's Thunder Punch to get off enough chip with Signal Beam. Togekiss had an 87.5% chance to survive, and it did, eventually winning me the battle. I won the next battle easily, never being at risk despite hilariously bad luck, and won the final battle thanks in part due to some good luck. I'm not sure the Shadow Ball critical hit actually mattered since Houndoom would have knocked Lapras out in 2 hits anyways, but it was still nice. Reversal did the necessary damage, taking Bronzong to about half. From there, a Flamethrower to scout Bronzong's ability and an Earth Power after calculating it to be Heatproof took it out. Garchomp ended up on 5 HP after a Psychic, but it only lost to a critical hit.

This is where things started to get really nutty. Starting from this round, I will not know what set is on each Pokemon for each battle, which puts me at a further disadvantage. An absolutely horrible draft I had to take a picture of to believe, as I thought that was the end right there. It was a rough first battle, as my awful team had to survive a Flare Blitz critical hit by Arcanine and avoid a Rock Slide flinch or critical hit from Tauros on Glalie to win, although the Thunderbolt paralysis by Electrode took care of that scenario.

My luck was no weirder the next battle, as a critical hit from Registeel while switching to Gastrodon meant it got enough HP back from its Shell Bell to survive Earth Power on seemingly 1 HP and take Gastrodon down to just 3 HP with another hit. This meant I my Tauros had to deal with paralysis from Miltank. Getting fully paralyzed once meant that while I beat the Miltank, Tauros went down in one hit to Raikou. Glalie got a miracle critical hit on its first Ice Beam to beat Raikou and keep the streak alive.

I finally had a pretty decent team, but the weird luck continued with losing a speed tie to Poliwrath with Metagross, then getting a full paralysis on Raikou's Thunderbolt vs. Magmortar, although the Gastrodon would've won the battle anyways. I would have needed to get very unlucky to lose the following 2 battles, but Metagross getting a Hammer Arm off on Tyranitar and Dusknoir using Curse repeatedly saved me some potential headaches. The final battle wasn't too awful, but Metagross surviving on 2 HP gave me the momentum advantage, while a timely critical hit by Raikou on Blaziken helped in case it had Earthquake. The Quick Claw from Torterra also helped, but it only would have lost to a critical hit or freeze shenanigans from Kingdra's Blizzard at that point.

Hi everyone! Hereby I’m posting an ongoing streak of 504 in the Platinum Battle Tower, singles. The streak is on retail.

View attachment 845850

The team:

- Thunder Wave
- Flash
- Memento

@ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EV’s: 252 hp, 100 atk, 146 def, 12 sp.def
Careful Nature

- Earthquake

The team I use is very similar to Peterko’s team (and others using Registeel) except that I use Latios over Latias, so credits to him. Huge credits to Jumpman16 and Peterko in general for getting 2k+ streaks.

When I can I will try to set up Garchomp over Registeel vs PI trainers. This is because the 2nd Pokemon can be QC Donphan4 which can give Registeel trouble. For example when I face Pinsir lead and lock it into X-Scissor, I will count X-Scissor and PP stall, switch back to Latios on Struggle, then use Thunder Wave + Memento and set up Garchomp.

Threat list:

• Yanmega1-4: best to switch to Registeel immediately since it could be U-turn Yanmega2 which is annoying when it U-turns on Latios.
• Gastrodon4: switch between Registeel and Latios to burn Earth Power and Ice Beam PP. Then Flash x6 + Memento.
• Rampardos1-4: Probably best to lead out with Memento, since I've seen Rampardos4 use Earthquake against Latios due to Mold Breaker which is annoying. I try to outstall it with Registeel if it's locked into Head Smash. If it's Rampardos3 I will switch to Garchomp after Memento, then switch to Registeel to absorb Head Smash. Then switch between them to burn Head Smash PP and set up Garchomp.
• Staraptor4: Safer to use Trick over Memento since CB Staraptor hits like a truck with crit. Then set up with Registeel

Reached a win streak of 903 in Platinum singles! 1k is getting close

One of the most stressful battles I had so far was against Tinted Lens Yanmega4 who brought Registeel to low health and crit him.
Luckily Garchomp managed to save the day.
Another stressful battle was vs QC Rhydon4, which I recorded:

Latios got hit by QC Horn Drill, but I managed to pull through. Very close one

Well, somehow this streak is still going on. I'm now up to 63 wins after 2 more rounds tonight. I made sure to take more screenshots this time to document my progress, especially since I'm entering pretty weird territory. I'm not really sure how I've made it this far, but you can read about it below.

Metagross3, Torterra4, Raikou1 vs. Froslass4, Blaziken?, Kingdra4
T-Punch + Ace x2 KO Froslass after Hail + S-Ball x2 to 2 HP, Blaziken B-Kick KO, Raikou T-Bolt crit OHKO, Kingdra Meteor + Pump KO after T-Bolt x2, Torterra QC EQ KO

FINAL UPDATE: I lost. Officially submitting a streak of 67 wins in the HeatGold Lv. 50 Singles Battle Factory. I streamed on the discord and had a super ugly set up, so the picture quality is awful in some of these. Also realized that I got absurdly lucky in the last battle there for round 9, as I played suboptimally. Cannot believe I made it this far though. Got insanely lucky in at least 3 battles post 49, which I guess makes up for how many years it took to get to 49 to begin with.

Job well done. Now I can truly return to my Pokemon hiatus. Here's the final recap:

Round 10 Draft: Vaporeon2, Magmortar3, Meganium3, Golem2, Medicham4, Wailord3

Golem3, Medicham4, Magmortar3 vs. Golem3, Victreebel3, Roserade?
EQ 2HKO after H-Arm, Victreebel SolarBeam KO, Medicham Psycho OHKO both

Victreebel3, Medicham4, Magmortar3 vs. Hypno4, Tauros4, Charizard4
Psychic OHKO after SolarBeam, Mag Blitz KO, Tauros SE KO, Psycho 2HKO Tauros after SE x2, T-Punch OHKO Charizard after F-Blast miss

Victreebel3, Medicham4, Tauros4 vs. Ludicolo2, Mamoswine1, Whiscash3
Sludge 2HKO after Rain, Mamo I-Fang flinch + EQ KO, Tauros Return 2HKO after miss vs. Hail + EQ, Whiscash Blizzard KO after Return to red, Medicham Psycho KO

Mamoswine1, Medicham4, Tauros4 vs. Gliscor?, Vespiquen4, Gardevoir?
I-Fang OHKO after EQ to 127 HP, I-Fang 2HKO Vespiquen after A-Order, Gardevoir S-Ball KO, Tauros Return OHKO

LOSS: Gliscor4, Medicham4, Tauros4 vs. Feraligatr4, Hippowdon1
EQ vs. I-Fang to red, Tauros Return KO after I-Fang, Gliscor in on Hippo Curse, Crunch KO, EQ KO Tauros after Return to half, EQ KO Medicham after I-Punch

The draft wasn't amazing. Due to the poison preview, I picked Golem and Medicham, but I agonized over Magmortar vs. Vaporeon. I went with Magmortar for the numerous grass/poison types and was repaid by getting Victreebel and slow Roserade. So that left me trying to figure out my next team. I didn't want to be that weak to water types, so I took Victreebel and paid for it instantly. Hypno one shot my Victreebel, meaning Magmortar had to take some recoil. From there, Tauros going for Stone Edge left me with a shot. Medicham beat Tauros while in range of a Focus Blast from Charizard. It went for that, missed, and Thunder Punch won the battle.

By my estimations, I needed Tauros to use Stone Edge over Earthquake, Focus Blast over Air Slash and Blast Burn, miss the Focus Blast, and then hit the range for Thunder Punch. I'm not 100% sure how the AI works, but by my napkin math, I had a less than 5% chance to win, assuming the AI has an equal chance of selecting any of those moves that got the kill (.5 Stone Edge * .33 Focus Blast * .3 Miss * .875 Range + other scenarios I don't feel like calculating that involve misses and all). That was easily the luckiest battle of my life. Definitely the kind of ridiculousness that you'd expect to go against you rather than for you in the Battle Frontier.

After that, I got easy matchups the next 2 battles and ended up with a solid team. My one worry was having too many physical attackers, but that's rarely ever an issue. Unfortunately, that turned out to be my undoing, as Curse Hippowdon showed up. I misplayed it badly, switching to Gliscor in the hopes of a sacrifice for damage via Earthquake. Unfortunately, it revealed itself to have Curse after switching in on an expected Earthquake. At this point, I needed a critical hit, which ironically, my opponent received, not me. I think I needed a critical hit even if I stayed in with Tauros due to Slack Off, but I am not sure 100% what the AI would have done. Not the first time I have lost a long streak to Curse Hippowdon either, although this came after 49, so who cares? Either way, it was a great run that I am very happy with.

It's over 1000! Reached an ongoing win streak of 1001 in Platinum Battle Tower singles :D

1001_proof.jpg

I streamed Battles 988-1001 in the Discord channel:

Notable battles timestamps from the video:

• 7:50: Battle #990 Bird Keeper Kira with Yanmega1-4. I open with Thunder Wave, since it could be Tinted Lens Bug Buzz Yanmega who breaks Registeel’s sub. It’s Yanmega2 and it U-turns. Out comes.. Salamence. Now if it’s DD Salamence2 I’m potentially in a lot of trouble. I switch to Registeel. It’s Draco Meteor Salamence3, a relief. I manage to Trick it into Draco Meteor, set up with Registeel and win. Need to make a note that using Thunder Wave on Yanmega1-4 could still give me issues. Perhaps opening with Memento is the move here, and switch in Garchomp if it is U-turn Yanmega2, although it can still switch out… very annoying

• 14:58: Battle #991 Beauty Becky with Absol3. I Trick it into Night Slash. It crits Registeel. A lot. It probably has Super Luck. Super Luck + Night Slash = scary. It brings Registeel down to low health without a sub up when I kill it. In comes Horn Drill Sheer Cold Dewgong3. It kills Registeel immediately with Horn Drill. I switch in Garchomp and manage to have a sub up at +2. EQ isn’t a guaranteed OHKO, so I outrage. Garchomp manages to kill the last Pokemon too, which is Mismagius3.

• 38:12: Battle #995 Veteran Alfred leads with Dragonite3. I manage to set up on it with Registeel, when Mamoswine3 comes in. This one is annoying since it has Fissure. I try to outstall Fissure PP by subbing. It has Hail + Snow Cloak + Lax Incense as well which makes it especially annoying. Registeel manages to defeat it. Very scary matchup to face for Registeel.

I've been playing a bunch of Battle Factory recently. I never got the Gold Print before despite trying many times in the past. I got back into it around last month after talking about it with Peasounay who was also playing at the time. He taught me the mechanics and gave me the ressources that were useful (sets, calcs, trainers) and thanks to them, I got the Gold Print (on cartridge).

I kept playing since then (on emulator), trying to get a higher streaker and also because I wanted to beat Thorton49 in Open Level too. Shout outs to Larry and Mana for often being in call and playing together.

With this post, I'm submitting my records as of now: 56 wins in Level 50, and 49 wins in Open Level.
mhArsDH.png
Team: Starmie 4 / Flygon 4 / Ursaring 4
He leads Articuno 2, I use Tbolt on Reflect, then Avalanche. Articuno faints on the third Tbolt.
He sends Vilpelume, which dies to Psychic.
He sends Ambipom. I switch back and forth between Strarmie and Flygon so it takes Life Orb damage. Once both Pokemons are dead, Ursaring comes and finish the job.
Team: Froslass 3 / Lucario 2 / Articuno 2 (pretty awful options at the draft, other Pokemons were Vileplume 3 / Victreebell 2 / Typhlosion 2)

Leads: Froslass vs Jolteon
I spam Dbond to trade Pokemons since I don't really have a switch.
I send Lucario and I stare down a Ninetales.
It's Ninetales 4 which just outspeeds and OHKO Lucario then easily beats Articuno too.
vp1pRsp.gif
Team : Electivire 1 / Ambipom 1 / Houndoom 3 (left behind Rapidash 1 / Crobat 3 / Poliwrath 2)

Leads: Electivire vs Meganium
I switch to Houndoom as Meganium charges Solar Beam. Flamethrower twice and gets the kill. Toxicroak is next.
Flamethrower vs Sludge Bomb. I finish the Toxicroak with Electivire. Metagross is next.
It's Metagross. Unfortunately one of the few Pokemons that I cannot Screech against, and with a typing/stats to soak both Electivire and Ambipom here. I decide to Twave and try my luck with full paras. It's Metagross 3, which doesn't fully paralyzed once and just kill my Electivire and Ambipom with 3 Hammer Arms.
Team : Salamence 4 / Hippowdon 4 / Raikou 4

Leads: Salamence vs Victreebel
I decide to EQ (didn't wanna lock on Outrage and didn't want to miss Zen, EQ is a 2KO most of the time) and crit for the OHKO. Garchomp is next.
After a lot of thinking, I decide my best move is to switch to Raikou.

If it's any Garchomp but 4, I can tank a hit and kill back with Salamence after Intimidate (and Raikou would break the Sash from Garchomp 1 and 3). If it's Garchomp 3, I can go back to Mence to force a drop from Draco Meteor.
I also wanted to avoid giving it Sand Veil by going hard Hippo.
My plan vs Chomp 4 (which would OHKO Raikou with Outrage) is to send back Mence, get an Intimidate, then go Hippo which would have 30% to survive 3 Outrage while having a 55% chance to 2KO with EQ (as opposed to around 50% to die from 2 Outrage without Intimidate).

I go Raikou and it's Garchomp 4, which kills me. I go Mence, then switch to Hippo and get crit by Outrage. Hippo dies the next turn.
I send back Mence, gets another Intimidate which allows me to survive Outrage and kill with my own.

Last mon is Hariyama which survives Outrage and finish me off.

proof
this is a vid of the match 252-259
I have more match footage I will upload it but its is low quality stuff. sorry, for a long time this was just a hobby or something to do while I watch youtube videos, I did not think it would go anywhere until it did. also I thought the battle tower did the overflow match at round 255 not set 255 I talk about it in the video. forgive me.

low quality additonal footage matches 201-203
this was the first time I thought to record the streak at all, it was done with my cellphone in the middle of a match because I thought It was match 200, it actually start on match 201. really embarrassed about this footage, If I could make it again it would be more profesionaly done, at least with a proper camera and in focus the entire shot. but as I said, this is all I have.
also replay of when I lost.

Things I think are notable are

1. My Scizor is something I got from old fashion breeding before I knew how to RNG manipulate and can obviously be improved upon.

2. This was done on a Japanese Cartridge of SS, and I don't speak or read Japanese (hard to prove), so I had a hard time with information. Sets were/are hard to figure out because I'm not always sure of what move I'm being hit with, especially if it misses and the animation does not play. So I was kinda playing blind into the sets. For example I was/am not sure about the trainers so I could never use that information to determine my opponents IVs or sets and If I get hit with a move I don't know the animation for (rare now) I am just left confused.

3. This was a fluke, I have been trying to replicate it for a while now and have never gotten an attempt passed 120 again, though I am still trying because I think 300 is likely and 500 is maybe technically possible with extreme luck.

4. also I finished this streak about 2-3 months ago, maybe more. I have been trying to beat it with no luck, but this is how it played. also this streak took me like 6 months because once I got past 200 I did not want to play anymore from fear of losing it. just sat on the streak and played other things like doubles or arcade.

How I lost and where did I have trouble and what was good

1. I lost due to a ice beam freeze from an enemy latias. I was frozen for 6-7 turns and died. Could not crawl it back. This exact situation (turn 1 freeze on scizor) happened about 5 times in the run and each of the times before I got lucky, like latios is my last pokemon left and it is choice locked on ice beam and the unknown final pokemon comes out and it is flygon or tangrowth lucky.

2. Where did I have trouble, Like everywhere.
Water types suck. Here is a quick list of pokemon I cannot one shot with thunderbolt despite it being supereffective lapras, milotic, articuno, vaporeon, walrein, wailord, polytoad, lanturn, kingdra, I think blastoise is a roll and of course the water/ground types. Also surf can't kill bastiodon and sometimes probopass. They are not a death sentence, I live pretty much every single icebeam and some blizzards, though vaporeon and articuno are rolls I believe, so I only lose to a crit or freeze, but that is like 16.25% of the time.

Also normal types are annoying, I can't kill so many of them with psychic and so many of them have ice punch, I live but every time it sucks.

Also any and all sets that have ice punch and fire punch are nightmares for garchomp and scizor, meaning latios has to be alive to handle them, but sometimes latios dies early, so like be lucky I guess

Mirror matches are okay, my scizor general beats there scizor, garchomp is easy to face, but enemy laios and latias are terrifying. Ice beam does not kill, but their draco meteor does. and the speed ties sucks. If I was running dragon pulse it would be better but it does not always kill.

Any pokemon faster than latios is annoying too. aerodactyl is handled by scizor, jolteon and voltorb by garchomp. but crowbat is latios job, and sometimes It flinches.

Then there are the generally annoying tower sets, all OHKO moves are annoying (especially when I can't tell they are using them due to the language barrier, I just know something missed), counter/coat and focus sash happens. bright powder, lax incense, quick claw. Even double team. This team cannot handle extreme haxs.
Also so many more, I switched garchomp into ice punch about 15 times because I don't know the sets and played like an idiot so many times

3. Things that this team actually do well
Latios probably OHKOs about 60% of the tower in leads and does a 3 turn sweep probably 10% of the time, its so fast and so bulky and switches just so perfectly with scizor. Flying types dead, grass types dead, poison/fighting dead. a lot of the time themed trainers are funny because I just kill all three before they move.

Its not a trick team but garchomp still sets up about 5% of the time and those are free wins (slaking or fortress for example), and scizor can set up pretty freely against ice types and some psychics for some nice sweeps, but not like the chomp.

often I get ahead and and try to get into 2 vs 1 and generally I win pretty easily from there, especially if the last are latios and scizor, chomp is less reliable but still beats most espcially with a bullet punch afterwards.
And nothing plays faster than this team, I probably do a full set of 7 in 15 min average, but sometimes its like 10. though this fast pace usually leads to mistakes, which is why I think it can go further. its definitely me holding the team back.

Things I think are gonna be argued upon

1. Yes this is just basically water dragon steel that has been recommended for like 20 years at this point, it plays like it, it feels like it. It is better. Latios is better than every water type in the game. starmie, suicune, milotic, empoleon cannot do what latios does, half the time it sweeps and probably gets 80% of the kills on the team. And a calm mind suicune, or a specs starmie can't do that.

2. Surf on latios is not stupid, it not obvious like the other 3 move, and might be only needed due to how I play (badly). But there are several pokemon that are just too annoying to face without surf in the lead spot, namely fire / rock types, Steelix, and Mamoswine. Not that the other pokemon on the team can't help, but scizor/chomp barely do there job as is, any extra pressure on them is not needed. Also there is no good replacement, Dragon pulse is obvious but really only helps against kingdra latios and latias and against dark/psychic types which are pretty easily handled by scizor (dark/psychic types, the latis are scarily handled by scizor, and kingdra is not), like the situations I would uses dragon pulse over psychic are rare as a neutral stab option. Draco meteor was tried and is cool but the problem is that too much of the time it is correct to drop a draco and eventually I will miss, like either I press it too much and it misses, or I never ever press it, and then why am I running it. Grass knot/ energy ball sucks and is not needed ( I really wish grass knot could kill lapras or milotic but it can't, I would use it if it could). Trick is lame. maybe calm mind could work and expertbelt.

3. life orb sucks, the only big problem latios has is a power problem, it cannot secure too many kills with thunderbolt into water types or psychic into neutral targets, when I play the choice lock is not a problem, power and the chip from life orb are.

Things I think can be improved upon

1. Scizor had an IV problem and an EV problem. Since this run I have gotten Scizor 2 which is 31 IV and the new evs are 212 HP / 252 Atk / 44 Spe. this notably allows it to outspeed base 70s, which include former annoying pokemon like Metagross and Ludicolo (Metagross is still annoying).

2. Items have been changed. While lum on chomp and leftovers on scizor are probably their best items, scizor would freeze 10% of the time and die, and every time that happened was a fight to win. Now scizor has the lum and garchomp has persim berry. Though maybe garchomp would like liechi berry. Is this better? maybe, I don't know but now freeze is not a problem, and scizor is doing fine. Also scizor with lum means I can switch from latios through scizor into garchomp to handle electric with ice punch/beam, before if i did this scizor had a chance to freeze if it was ice punch and para if it was t-wave, with lum scizor garchomp can now be safely brought in.
