According to the RNG reporter, if I hit this seed right I'll actually get a shiny, synchronized solosis with ability slot one, which is hopefully magic guard and not the terrible overcoat.
What's your seed's information? IV frame, PID frame, etc.
That said, I understand all of these features are based on the PID frame not the IV frame, and since this is IV frame 4 I have to advance the IV frame by 3 steps which I've been doing by having 3 party members and moving ~130 steps. However, this requires leaving the grass, and according to the OP the act of moving into a grass square will increase my PID frame by 2... probably nuking my shiny.
Shoot for an IV frame of 1, it's always a good thing.
Where are you trying to get your Pokemon. Duosion are available on Route 9 with no NPCs that advance the PIDRNG, and if you do your IV frame advancements outside of the grass, you might be able to work this out.
I don't see how, because like I said the only meaningful way of increasing the IV frame would also increase my PID frame, but if there was some way to do it I'd love to hear it.
Perhaps use a different date. Some people prefer to abuse their ID/SID (which isn't a difficult task) to get flawless shiny spreads that are extremely easy to hit.
That said, while I'm at it, how can I tell what the PID frame should be to begin with? How can I get the RNG Reporter to tell me which PID frame I should have to ensure shininess, etc?
To find your initial PID, you catch a Pokemon without advancing the PIDRNG, record its stats, do it again after one advancement, and so on.
RNG Reporter has a button to find it for you without doing the advancements, if I'm correct.
I don't quite understand the second question, but...
Do you have the Shiny box checked off? It gives you what frame it's on. If not, not all of the spreads will have one in your PID range. But again, if it does, it should be clearly shown.
Another question: How far offscreen does a moving NPC have to be to keep it from messing with the PID?
Doesn't matter where they are, if they're in the same location as you, they'll advance.
I can't confirm all of the routes, but as mentioned above, I do know Route 9 with the bikers is safe.
Edit: One last question. When messing with the timer like this I understand you run the risk of losing people in White Forest / Black City. If I stay within the same day, as I've done today, do I still run this risk? Is there any way of mitigating it beyond avoiding large time slot changes and not saving every time you mess with the time? Or am I just being overly paranoid here?
Well, I advanced my year from 2011 to 2099 and absolutely no one left, no matter how far I advanced the date. Which wasn't what I wanted, I wanted some people to leave to test something.
You should be fine.
