A doubles team RMT (Explosion refinment).

I remember reading here (I think it was Jibaku, don't quote me), saying "the best strategy in doubles is Explosion", or something to that effect. So I wondered "How can I exploit Explosion to the best of its ability?". Someone might have already made a team like this, so I apologize if its exactly the same as someone else's. tl;dr at the bottom.

Rotom @ Choice Scarf
dpmfa479.png

Modest, 252 Sp.att, 252 HP.
Moveset:
-Discharge
-Shadow Ball
-Light Screen
-Reflect

Every move other then Discharge is mainly filler, because discharging is pretty much all he'll be doing with a choice scarf. I was really tempted to give him Life orb, but I'm really not sure how he'll survive against things that don't die to an Explosion straight away (Gengar, Tyranitar, Metagross, etc.). Basically he Discharges to take out any pokemon still alive after an Explosion, whilst being immune to it as well. This is mainly to take out Focus Sashers as well as pokemon that have a resistance to Explosion.

Metagross @ Choice Scarf
dpmfa376.png

Adamant, 252 att, 252 spd.
Moveset:
-Explosion
-Earthquake
-Rock Slide
-Bullet Punch

Metagross to lead with Rotom, because his Clear Body will cancel out those double intimidate leads you see around sometimes. The speed EV's are so he outspeeds Rotom, although I don't know why he'd need them anywhere else...

Cloyster @ Choice Scarf
dpmfa091.png

Adamant, 252 att, 252 spd.
Moveset:
-Explosion
-Blizzard
-Surf
-Protect

Boom. Protect is there if something goes horribly wrong and I just need something to survive, at least for a turn.

Shiftry @ Choice Scarf
dpmfa275.png

Adamant, 252 att, 252 spd.
Moveset:
-Explosion
-Rock slide
-Razor Leaf
-Protect

Bommies. Razor Leaf is just in case I fight Swampert AND Quagsire AT THE SAME TIME. That shit be crazy.

Solrock @ Choice Scarf
dpmfa338.png

Adamant, 252 att, 252 spd.
Moveset:
-Explosion
-Earthquake
-Rock Slide
-Protect

More boomies. I should probably mention that I haven't included legendaries because of the fact that I'll be trying to raise this team ingame for WiFi, so... yeah. However if I was using this for a simulator I'f probably swap Solrock and Shiftry for Heatran and Azelf.

Gengar @ Life Orb
dpmfa094.png

Hasty, 252 Sp.att, 252 spd.
Moveset:
-Explosion
-Shadow Ball
-Energy Ball
-Focus Blast

This guy has Life Orb because he's the guy I'm going to be turning to if shit hits the fan, like if my opponent KO's Rotom or an opponents still alive or whatever, so he can't really be forced into one kind of move and his fast enough to not really need a scarf. If everything is hunkydory, he'll explode, mainly because at this stage if everything is going to plan the opponents probably already dead.

Threats:
Pokemon that resist/immune to both Explosion and Discharge
Ghost types
Focus Sashers that are immune to Discharge
Choice Scarf Hypnosis users (not that I've seen any)
Pokemon with the "Damp" ability

My experience in double battles is virtually non-existent, however I've read up on it/watched videos, and have been wanting to get into it, so I thought up this team. Is it ok? What can I do to improve it? Are the natures ok? Any specific strategy's/pokemon that I really need to be aware of? Critique away!

tl;dr EDIT: Re-reading this, I might not have made it clear what the actual strategy is, so if you didn't read close to everything, here it is: One of my pokemon explodes, discharge Rotom finishes up the pokemon that didn't faint from it, with both pokemon holding choice scarf to outspeed the opponents. Rinse and repeat until opponent is thoroughly cleaned and pokemon free.

Wow, it's teams like this that make me wish Item Clause were a standard rule, at least in Doubles.

Anyhow, this team has an interesting concept, but the reliance on one strategy may come back to bite you. It won't take long for an astute opponent to catch on to your strategy. In fact, if you're in a PBR-type game, your opponent can see your team before the match starts and realize that 5 of your 6 team members can learn Explosion and the last one is a Ghost-type.

There's a lot about this team that I like. Overall, it seems to have a good mix of Pokémon with advantageous type combinations. The problem is that it can't make very good use of these combinations because everything has a Choice Scarf.

I think I'd have an easier time rating this if you could tell me a bit more about your contingency plans. What do you plan to do in these specific scenarios?

• You think one of your opponent's Pokémon has the Damp ability
• Your opponent has a Ghost-type or a very durable Rock/Ground or Steel/Ground type
• Your opponent has a Fake Out lead
• Your opponent Disables Rotom's move
• Your opponent gets off Trick Room (with Dusknoir, Bronzong, etc.) and suddenly all your Pokémon go last
• Various combinations of the above

Also, why do most of your Choice Scarf holders know Protect? Once you use that, you have to spend a turn switching out or you're stuck doing nothing for the match.

How effective this team is right now depends heavily on the caliber of opponent you plan on facing, whether your opponent knows your strategy, and if not, whether your opponent can see your team before the match. If most of your opponents are beginners and you're willing to just accept losses against teams that are prepared for Explosion, then your team might be just fine as-is. In general, I have to say that I disagree with the statement that Explosion is the best strategy in Doubles. I rarely ever see Explosion on PBR random Wi-Fi these days and I don't usually have a problem beating it when I do.

• You think one of your opponent's Pokémon has the Damp ability
That'll either be Poliwrath/toed or Quagsire, which is why I had alternative moves on my pokemon, but a Quagsire brought in at a bad time could mess me up quite a bit.
• Your opponent has a Ghost-type or a very durable Rock/Ground or Steel/Ground type
Again it depends when they bring them out and the situation we're in. If its a ghost type and a rock type then I'd probably discharge and Earthquake or rock slide.
• Your opponent has a Fake Out lead
It'll be a hassle for a turn I guess.
• Your opponent Disables Rotom's move
Would swap to gengar and hope that my opponent doesnt have a rock/steel/ghost type... heh ^^'
• Your opponent gets off Trick Room (with Dusknoir, Bronzong, etc.) and suddenly all your Pokémon go last
This would be a very big problem, especially with scarfs. Dusknoir would be hell in this situation. I'd be pretty screwed over.
• Various combinations of the above
As you said in your post, how well this team goes at the moment depends on the calabur of the opponent I'm playing. Someone who cannot handle repetitive explosions will lose, but someone who plays smart, especially with ghosts and protect users will slowly pick this team apart.

I'm more scared of fast hypnosis users sleeping Rotom or something, but you're right, playing my resistances against my opponent would give me a better chance then a head first approach to this with choice scarf.

This makes me think a few things:
Maybe I should swap choice scarf on Rotom with lum berry, so I do not have to worry about first turn sleep (especially from gengar).
Remove Solrock for Claydol (so he isn't hit by discharge) give him Life orb and EV him defensively.
Shift Metagross with Shiftry as a lead.
Give Metagross Life orb.

However my little knowledge of doubles battles limits my ability to foresight a situation. Perhaps I should just make the team, use it in a lot of doubles battles then report my findings?

(also tempted to find a fast opening explosion user (Adamant Electrode :D! teehee) and give Rotom and it Protect, to scout out the opponents moves, and to waste the opponents protect if they have one, as I'd hate to battle an opening double protect >.>)

ah double battles, its sorta like the double battle team in pokemon colleseum.

One suggestion might be a dusknoir probably instead of that rotom, just use protect and fake out things confuse ray etc. that way you can launch one explosion after another i spose no ones interested because of the whole "choice band" thing, try making an similar earthquake thing if your bored!!

uhmm yeah... protect on exploders is kinda dumb...

and yeah, all you really need to think about is how to counter Rock/Steel/Ghost/Fighting. The obvious way is running fighting/psychic, so maybe medicham (who's packing protect/detect) might be a way to go.
