A Memo from Professor Elm on the Merits of Chikorita

Idea: A memo from Professor Elm to all starting trainers about the merits of using Chikorita.

Reason: I used to hate Chikorita with a burning passion, but then I used it in a Let's Pay of Pokemon Crystal. While the Let's Play remains incomplete (the files are lost) it gave me an appreciation for Meganium that I don't think most people have. While Meganium is well below par in the current metagame, in Gold/Silver/Crystal it had the more unique function of encouraging team building and strategy early because it was weak to the first two gyms and made you focus a little more on the rest of your team. Like wise, it can use dual screens to help support the team you've just been encouraged to build. I would like to share my love of this pokemon with an article written through the voice of Professor Elm.

Outline:
Intro: The professor adresses all trainers to be starting this month explaining that his lab is having a shortage of Cyndaquils and Totodiles but has an abundance of Chikoritas.

Paragraph 1: After apologizing for the shortage, he points out that Chikoritas are grass types and as such can synthesize energy from the sun which saves you in food costs. He also points out that this is good in case you wish to have a big eater (for example Snorlax) on your team as well.

Paragraph 2: Professor Elm points out the large support movepool of Chikorita and how it can help your team.

Paragraph 3: The professor appeals to your sense of cuteness by talking about how adorable Chikorita are as he attempts to name their anatomy (at one point he'll give up and be blatantly making stuff up).

Paragraph 4: He'll talk about how awesome Meganium is because it is a Dinosaur with a flower around its neck. What else could be ore awesome?

Conclusion: Professor Elm will ask that you read this letter with Sarah McLaughlin's "In the Arms of an Angel" in the background. This is to make you feel guilty that you made Chikorita forgettable in the generation with the most forgettable professor.

I hope you have all enjoyed this pitch :)

This is a very thoughtful article pitch, Meganium and its lesser stages are certainly not used often and could use some revived attention. With that said, we did have a special on Grass type starters many moons ago, where Meganium did get an analysis and a rundown of its strongest assets. While your intentions are good, Spotlight articles where a specific mon is featured do have the requirement that the featured mon must be competitively successful in the tier/meta it's in. So if we allow this to be written, I'm afraid a large number of other people will come and apply for articles about their favorite Pokemon as well, even though they may have no reason to do so through a competitive perspective.

So thanks for your application, but I'm afraid we need to reject it. If you still want to bring up a discussion about Meganium's better qualities, you can always visit the BW NU forum, specifically the Viability thread. :)
