[AAA] Chansey

QC: Kl4ng / aesf
GP: P Squared / Weebl

[OVERVIEW]

Combined with Eviolite, Chansey's unfathomable Special Defense and HP allow her to wall some of the most powerful special attackers in the metagame. Eviolite bolsters Chansey's physical bulk to be quite good—comparable to that of the likes of Donphan—which truly separates her from Blissey and allows her to check Psyshock attackers such as Life Orb Adaptability Latias. Additionally, Chansey's grand HP stat generates very large Wishes, fundamentally allowing her to completely revitalize allies. As Chansey can switch in against many threats, she often receives opportunities to use Wish or Heal Bell and fulfill her role as an excellent cleric. Chansey's Normal typing grants her one immunity but also one weakness; however, Fighting-type attacks are very uncommon among special attackers, so it's a good typing for a special wall. Chansey's positive defensive qualities have made her a staple on stall teams; however, Chansey also has a few flaws dragging her down. Her terrible attacking stats limit her sources of damage to just Skill Swap (against Poison Heal Pokemon), Seismic Toss, and Toxic. As Chansey relies on her Eviolite to wall foes, Knock Off and Trick from the likes of Mew and Latios, as well as many other threats, can water down Chansey's walling ability for the rest of the match. Chansey is slow, and her only attacking move is Seismic Toss, so she's very vulnerable to Taunt, unless she is using Magic Bounce. Chansey is also very one-dimensionsal and extremely predictable; thus, it's easy for the opponent to bait a switch and gain free momentum against Chansey. However, even with these flaws, Chansey's ability to single-handedly check some of the metagame's most powerful special attackers, such as Mega Diancie, has made her the most pivotal wall for stall teams.

Moves
========

Soft-Boiled grants Chansey instant recovery and the ability to wall all kinds of attackers. Wish grants another choice of recovery and can completely revitalize allies through Wish-passing. Seismic Toss allows Chansey to act while Taunted, deal consistent damage, and break Substitutes from Pokemon with less than 404 HP in one hit. Heal Bell, a must-have for any stall team, removes the party's status ailments, while Skill Swap lets Chansey defeat Pokemon with Poison Heal, use Toxic on Magic Bounce and Magic Guard Pokemon, weaken Adaptability Pokemon, and more; however, it is not recommended to use Skill Swap with Regenerator, as that would allow the foe to recover HP by switching. Toxic allows Chansey to whittle away at the HP of dangerous threats, such as Latios and Manaphy, but is ineffective against Poison Heal Pokemon and, particularly, Magic Bounce Pokemon, as they can bounce Toxic back onto Chansey.

Set Details
========

Chansey's EV spread maximizes her physical bulk to take on all kinds of threats, particularly those that take advantage of her lower Defense stat, while Eviolite augments Chansey's Defense and Special Defense by 1.5x. Magic Bounce lets Chansey bounce Taunt, entry hazards, and crippling status moves back onto the opposition; however, Pokemon with Mold Breaker can bypass Magic Bounce and use status moves. Regenerator augments Chansey's longevity and increases her viability as a consistent switch-in to offensive threats. Unaware allows Chansey to counter stat-boosting threats such as Manaphy and Nasty Plot Mew. Bear in mind that, even with Unaware, Chansey still struggles against physical setup sweepers such as Mega Gyarados and Dragonite. An alternative EV spread of 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD is also good, as it increases Chansey's special bulk to optimize her matchup against special attackers, at the cost of worse physical bulk and less-potent Wishes; however, because the metagame is overrun by physical attackers and Pokemon with Psyshock, the main spread is still the most reliable.

Usage Tips
========

Chansey's main role is to wall special attackers. Early-game, it's important to remain reserved with Chansey's use. Constant switching without some prior scouting may risk Chansey's Eviolite being removed by Knock Off or Trick, and Chansey's lack of Leftovers leaves her more vulnerable to damage from sand, status ailments, and entry hazards. Pokemon with, at the least, 101-HP Substitutes, such as Manaphy, can set up against Chansey, paying no heed to her Seismic Toss. Skill Swap allows Chansey to defeat Poison Heal Pokemon, including those with Substitute. Additionally, Skill Swap allows Chansey to beat Sheer Force Gengar one-on-one, as the lack of Sheer Force weakens Gengar's attacks and forces it to take Life Orb recoil. After Chansey uses Wish, the opponent might predict the recipient, so tread carefully and study the opponent's tendencies while Wish-passing. As Whirlwind and Roar are unaffected by Protect, opponents might try to prevent Chansey from healing herself with Wish; however, with Magic Bounce or Regenerator, Chansey is relatively safe against this strategy. If Protect is used, use it to Toxic stall as well as scout mixed attackers and users of Trick or Knock Off; the latter point is most important, as Chansey relies on her Eviolite to effectively wall foes. Constant use of Wish may be used as a fail-safe strategy against opponents with a strong wallbreaker. For example, if a wallbreaker or sweeper that Chansey cannot wall is on the field and Wish has already been used, the Wish should be passed to a teammate, which effectively provides a safe switch in for the recipient. Pursuit trappers, namely Adaptability Tyranitar, can trap Chansey with Pursuit and greatly damage her; therefore, it's important to remain cautious against Pokemon with Pursuit.

Team Options
========

Physical walls such as Doublade, Regirock, and Diancie appreciate Chansey's Wish-passing and can take strong physical attacks aimed at Chansey, while Chansey can take strong special attacks aimed at them. Additionally, Intimidate Pokemon such as Mandibuzz and Chesnaught are extremely bulky and capable of walling a large portion of physical attackers. If Chansey lacks Heal Bell, Regenerator Diancie and Mew are good teammates, as they can both provide Heal Bell support. Even if Chansey has Magic Bounce, she does not excel at bouncing back entry hazards; consequently, spinners such as Blastoise or Defoggers such as Mandibuzz are obligatory teammates. Chansey excels at shutting down offensive threats and forcing switches, so users of Spikes and Stealth Rock, such as Deoxys-D and Ferrothorn, appreciate Chansey's Wish-passing and can set entry hazards to wear down foes. Pokemon with Roar help Chansey by phazing Substitute Pokemon and boosting sweepers, but this strategy will fail against Magic Bounce Pokemon. If Unaware is not used, Unaware walls such as Cresselia should be used to wall boosting sweepers, including those with Substitute. A Mega Evolution such as Mega Diancie can take a Knock Off or Trick aimed at Chansey, in order to preserve her Eviolite. Bulky setup Pokemon, such as Manaphy and Dragonite, appreciate Chansey's Wish-passing, as Wish can be used to keep them healthy. Chansey walls almost all special attackers, but Manaphy, Gengar, and Latios, in particular, give her trouble. For this reason, RegenVest variants of Goodra and Meloetta can be used to wall most Manaphy sets and check Adaptability Latios, respectively, and both are solid counters against Sheer Force Gengar.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Flash Fire Chansey is not vulnerable to Magnet Pull Pokemon, unlike most Flash Fire users, and she can wall some of the hardest-hitting Fire-types in the metagame, namely Entei, Heatran, and some Victini. Thunder Wave cripples a Pokemon's Speed, but it is generally ineffective against wallbreakers and sweepers; additionally, Magic Bounce and Poison Heal are commonly used abilities, consequently limiting Thunder Wave's usefulness. Intimidate allows Chansey to wall strong physical attackers, but even with Intimidate, Chansey still does not function well as a physical wall. With Chansey's high HP, Counter can easily net KOs against physical attackers, but Chansey's other moves are more useful overall.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Knock Off Users**: Knock Off users, such as Tornadus-T and Azelf, can remove Chansey's precious Eviolite to greatly lower her walling ability.

**Wallbreakers**: Chansey is one of the only counters to certain attackers such as Hydreigon, but because of her lack of Leftovers recovery, she is prone to being worn down, especially with entry hazards up.

**Taunt Users**: If Chansey is not using Magic Bounce, Taunt users such as Gengar and Heatran severely shut down her options, which leaves her as setup fodder.

**Trick Users**: Latios and Chandelure can severely cripple Chansey by Tricking her a Choice item.

**Fighting-types**: Pangoro, Blaziken, and Lucario are able to hit Chansey with STAB super effective moves against her weaker Defense stat.

**Ghost-types**: Ghost-types—particularly those that are immune to poison, such as Doublade and Gengar—are unaffected by Chansey's attacks and can use her as setup bait.

**Setup Sweepers**: Pokemon that do not mind Seismic Toss, such as Doublade, Latias, Skarmory, and Poison Heal Pokemon, can use Chansey as setup bait; however, if Skill Swap is being used, Chansey will be able to lessen certain foes' damage outputs and hurt Poison Heal Pokemon, and if Toxic is used, it can whittle down sweepers such as Sheer Force Manaphy and Latios.

**Gothitelle**: Gothitelle can trap Chansey with Shadow Tag and Trick her a Choice item, debilitating her for the rest of the match. The opponent may choose to KO her through PP stalling with Gothitelle's Rest or bring in another Pokemon to use Chansey as setup bait.

**Substitute Users**: Ghost-type Pokemon with Substitute, such as Gengar, are unaffected by Chansey's Seismic Toss and can use Chansey as setup bait. Additionally, Chansey cannot poison Pokemon behind a Substitute, and if a Substitute user has a maximum HP of 404 or higher, Seismic Toss will fail to break its Substitute in one hit.

Overview:

  • Mention how Chansey's attacking stats are horrible, meaning Seismic Toss and Toxic are its only sources of damage.
  • Explain how Chansey's bulk is augmented by Eviolite.
  • Mention how Chansey's typing only leaves it with one immunity, but that is also only leaves it with one weakness.
  • Mention that Chansey despises Knock Off and Trick.
Set:
  • Specify the downsides of Toxic (Set-up bait for PH sweepers, can be bounced)
  • Mention how as an Unaware user, Chansey has trouble with some physical sweepers.
  • Explain Eviolite in Set Details.
  • Mention how Mega Evolutions also have the benefit of making Trick fail.
  • Give some examples of good Stealth Rock / Spikes users.
  • Mention Intimidate users (with examples) as good partners.
Strategy:
  • Replace Thick Fat with Flash Fire - Chansey doesn't really need the ice immunity as most physical Refridgerate users have other moves to hit it with, and most special Refridgerate users are walled in the first place. Flash Fire on the other hand helps take on dangerous attackers it would have a hard time walling otherwise such as ErupTran, Entei, and Victini, with the added plus of being one of the few Flash Fires not eliminated via Magnet Pull, which most Fire spam teams usually have.
  • Sticky Hold is not worth an OO mention in my opinion.
  • Mega Lucario is banned in AAA, so replace him with regular Lucario.

Great analysis!

I'm not too sure about most of these since I almost never use chansey, so I'll leave it up to you if you want to choose to implement these or not.
Overview
  • I wouldn't say it walls psyshock attackers like latias; Latias tends to run specs adapt which 2HKOs you with psyshock after rocks anyways, and can also trick, although this is your call if you want to word it better.
  • Maybe mention how Chansey is an excellent cleric with heal bell.
  • Mention how Chansey is sometimes overlooked in favor of pokemon like Assault Vest Regenerator Meloetta and Assault Vest Regenerator Goodra, who, unlike Chansey, have an offensive presence.
  • Possibly mention how Chansey should not be avoided on offensive teams, as it kills momentum.
Set
  • Moves: You could mention how Skill Swap allows it to beat Sheer Force Gengar in a one on one scenario, since Gengar can no longer pp stall as it has to take Life Orb damage. Its focus blast is also weakened, so it can't kill you if it runs knock off and focus blast (needs to get 7 straight hits on focus blast, not happening)
  • Moves: Maybe mention how Skill Swap can also work against Magic Bounce and Magic Guard users, allowing you to toxic them if you aren't running magic bounce.
  • Moves: Mention something about how Wish + protect is much better at toxic stalling but word it better than i just worded it.
  • Team Options: When you mention "she does not excel at bouncing back hazards;", add that mold breaker bypasses magic bounce, as some readers may not be able to pick it up. In a similar manner, you could do the same for Set Details, expanding 'magic bounce blocking hazards' to 'magic bounce blocking non mold breaker hazard users'
  • Team Options: If you decide to add the first bullet, then remove any mention of gengar, and say something like nasty plot sheer force thundurus instead.
Everything else
  • Other Options: Change "it walls victini with flash fire" to "it walls some victini", as Chansey cannot stomach a banded bolt strike.
  • Other Options: Multiscale is interesting, especially with thunder wave, although this is a bit weird so your call.
  • Other Options: Where is lucky punch for those juicy crit seismic tosses
  • Checks and Counters: Ghost types, for obvious reasons, although there's probably a reason you didn't add this so idk.
  • Checks and Counters: Trick users
  • Checks and Counters: Chansey doesn't counter kyurem; many kyurems are mixed with adaptability outrage, and others are mixed refrigerate with hyper voice + frustration. Maybe put Choice Specs Hydreigon here instead.
Great analysis, as someone who hasn't used chansey outside of flash fire, I got quite a bit out of this.

A Mega Evolution such as Mega Diancie can take a Knock Off or Trick aimed at Chansey to preserve her Eviolite. Bulky setup Pokemon, such as Manaphy and Dragonite, appreciate Chansey's Wish-passing, as Wish can be used to keep them healthy. Chansey walls almost all special attackers, but not all, including, but not limited to: Manaphy, Gengar, and Latios, in particular, give her trouble. For this reason, RegenVest Goodra can be used to wall most Manaphy sets, RegenVest Meloetta can be used to check Adaptability Latios, and both are solid counters against Sheer Force Gengar.

Other Options
=============

With Flash Fire, Chansey is not prone vulnerable to Magnet Pull Pokemon, unlike most Flash Fire Pokemon, and she can wall some of the hardest(dash)hitting Fire-types in the metagame, namely, (remove comma) Entei, Heatran, and some Victini. Thunder Wave cripples a Pokemon's Speed, but it is generally ineffective against wallbreakers and sweepers; additionally, Magic Bounce and Poison Heal are commonly used abilities, consequently limiting Thunder Wave's use(fulness? optional). Intimidate allows Chansey to wall strong physical attackers, but even with Intimidate, Chansey still does not function well as a wall to physical attackers. With Chansey's high HP, Counter can easily net KOs against physical attackers, but Chansey's other moves are more useful overall.

Checks and Counters
===================
(an option instead of "Pokemon with x" is "x Users" (ex: Trick Users), see how you feel about that)
**Pokemon with Knock Off**: Pokemon such as Tornadus-T and Azelf can remove Chansey's precious Eviolite to greatly lower her walling ability.

**Wallbreakers**: Chansey is one of the only counters to certain attackers such as Hydreigon, but because of her lack of Leftovers recovery, she is prone to being worn down, especially with entry hazards up.

**Pokemon with Taunt**: If Chansey is not using Magic Bounce, Taunt abusers such as Gengar and Heatran severely shuts down her options, which leaves her setup fodder prone to set up.

**Pokemon with Trick**: Latios and Chandelure can severely cripple Chansey by Tricking her a Choice item.

**Fighting-types**: Pangoro, Blaziken, and Lucario are able to hit Chansey with STAB super effective damage against her weaker Defense stat.

**Ghost-types**: Ghost-types(particularly those that are immune to poison), such as Doublade and Gengarare unaffected by Chansey's attacks, (remove comma) and can use her as setup bait. (aka use these: —)

**Setup Sweepers**: Pokemon that do not mind Seismic Toss, such as Doublade, Latias, Skarmory, and Poison Heal Pokemon, can use Chansey as setup bait; however, if Skill Swap is being used, Chansey will be able to lessen certain opposer's foes' damage outputs and hurt Poison Heal Pokemon, and if Toxic is used, it can whittle down sweepers such as Sheer Force Manaphy and Latios.

**Gothitelle**: Gothitelle can trap Chansey with Shadow Tag and Trick a Choice item onto Chansey, debilitating her for the rest of the match. The opposer may choose to KO her through PP stalling with Gothitelle's Rest, or use Chansey as setup bait for another Pokemon.

**Pokemon with Substitute**: Ghost-type Pokemon with Substitute, such as Gengar, are unaffected by Chansey's Seismic Toss, (remove comma) and can use Chansey as setup bait. Additionally, Chansey cannot poison Pokemon behind a Substitute, and if a Pokemon with Substitute has 404 HP or higher, Seismic Toss will fail to break the Substitute in one hit.
Thanks a lot for the check! I implemented your additions and also added content onto the last part of the overview!

Hey! Here's a GP check. This check is a bit special, as it's the 100th one I've done for an analysis.
[OVERVIEW]
Combined with Eviolite, (AC) Chansey's unfathomable Special Defense and HP, combined with Eviolite, allows Chansey allow her to wall some of the most powerful special attackers in the metagame. With Eviolite, (RC) bolsters Chansey's physical bulk to be quite (Don't exaggerate; there's a reason it's not a physical wall.) becomes very good (—comparable to that of the likes of Donphan), —(Em dashes (—) are better here. Make sure not to have any spaces around the dashes. )which truly separates her from Blissey and allows her to check Psyshock attackers such as Life Orb Adaptability Latias. Additionally, Chansey's grand HP stat generates very large Wishes, fundamentally allowing her to completely revitalize allies. (Move the bolded, italicized, and square-bracketed-off section here. You're talking about Wish, so it fits better.) Chansey's Normal typing grants her one immunity, (RC) but also one weakness; however, Fighting-type attacks are very uncommon among special attackers, so it's a good typing for a special wall. [As Chansey can switch in against many threats, it she often receives opportunities to use Wish or Heal Bell and fulfill her role as is also an excellent cleric.] Chansey's positive defensive qualities have made her a staple on stall teams; however, Chansey also has a few flaws dragging her down. Chansey's Her terrible attacking stats limit her sources of damage to just Skill Swap (against Poison Heal Pokemon), Seismic Toss, and Toxic. As Chansey relies on her Eviolite to wall foes opposers, Knock Off and Trick from the likes of Mew and Latios, as well as many other threats, can water down Chansey's walling ability for the rest of the match. Chansey is slow, and her only attacking move is Seismic Toss, so she's very vulnerable to Taunt, unless provided that (there was an extra space here) she is not using Magic Bounce. Chansey is also very one-dimensionsal and extremely predictable; (remove extra space) thus, it's easy for the opponent to bait a switch, effectively gaining and gain (no two ways about it; it is free momentum) free momentum against Chansey. But (Use a transitional word here; you could also use "however," though I prefer "but" here.) even with these flaws, ("however" could also be used here) Chansey's ability to [single-handedly] (I prefer this over "on her own," but it's up to your discretion) check some of the metagame's most powerful special attackers on her own, such as Mega Diancie, [on her own] (Choose one of the additions in [square brackets], but not the other, of course.) has made her the most pivotal wall for stall teams.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Soft-Boiled grants Chansey instant recovery and the ability to wall all kinds of attackers through instant recovery. Wish grants another choice of recovery and can completely revitalize allies through Wish-passing. Seismic Toss allows Chansey to act while Taunted, deal consistent damage, and break Substitutes from Pokemon with less than 404 HP in one hit. Heal Bell, a must-have for any stall team, removes the party's status ailments, while Skill Swap lets Chansey defeat Pokemon with Poison Heal, use Toxic on Magic Bounce and Magic Guard Pokemon, weaken Adaptability Pokemon, and more; however, it is not recommended to use Skill Swap with Regenerator, as that would allow the opponent foe to recover HP by switching. Toxic allows Chansey to whittle away at the HP of dangerous threats' HP, such as Latios and Manaphy, but is ineffective against Poison Heal Pokemon and, particularly, Magic Bounce Pokemon, as they can bounce Toxic back Toxic onto Chansey.

Set Details
========

Chansey's EV spread maximizes her physical bulk to take on all kinds of threats, particularly those that take advantage of her Chansey's lower Defense stat, while Eviolite augments Chansey's Defense and Special Defense by 1.5x. Magic Bounce lets Chansey bounce back Taunt, entry hazards, and crippling status moves back onto the opposition; however, Pokemon with Mold Breaker can bypass Magic Bounce with and use status moves. An alternative EV spread of 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD is also good, as it maximizes increases (To maximize Chansey's special bulk would be using a spread of 252 HP / 252 SpD.) Chansey's special bulk to optimize her matchup against special attackers, at the cost of worse physical bulk and less-potent Wishes passing; however, because the metagame is overrun by physical attackers and Pokemon with Psyshock, the main spread is still the most reliable.

Usage Tips
========

Chansey's main role is to wall special attackers. Early-game, it's important to remain reserved with Chansey's use. Constant switching without some prior scouting may risk Chansey's Eviolite being removed by Knock Off or Trick, and Chansey's lack of Leftovers leaves her more vulnerable to damage from sandstorm, status ailments, and entry hazards. Pokemon with, (AC) over at the least, (AC) 101-(add hyphen)HP Substitutes, such as Manaphy, can set up against Chansey, paying no heed to her Chansey's Seismic Toss. Skill Swap allows Chansey to defeat Poison Heal Pokemon, including those with Substitute. Additionally, Skill Swap allows Chansey to beat Sheer Force Gengar [in a] one versus one one-on-one [scenario] (I would remove both of the parts in square brackets; they're pretty unnecessary), as the lack of Sheer Force Skill Swap weakens Gengar's attacks and forces Gengar it to take Life Orb recoil. (Without the change to the right, the flow is awkward and changes suddenly.)After Chansey uses Wish, (AC) the opponent might predict the Wish recipient, so tread carefully and study the opponent's tendencies while Wish-passing. As Whirlwind and Roar are unaffected by Protect, opposers opponents might try to prevent Chansey from healing herself with Wish; however, with Magic Bounce or Regenerator, Chansey is relatively safe against this strategy. If Protect is used, use it to Toxic stall as well as scout mixed attackers and users of Trick or and Knock Off; the latter point is most important, as Chansey relies on her Eviolite to effectively wall foes. Constant use of Wish may be used as a fail-safe strategy against opponents with a strong wallbreaker. For example, if a wallbreaker or sweeper that Chansey cannot wall is in on the field and Wish has already been used, the Wish should be passed to a teammate, which effectively provides a safe switch in for the recipient. Pursuit trappers, namely Adaptability Tyranitar, can trap Chansey with Pursuit and greatly damage her; therefore, it's important to remain cautious against Pokemon with Pursuit.

Team Options
========

Physical walls such as Doublade, Regirock, and Diancie appreciate Chansey's Wish-passing and can take strong physical attacks aimed at Chansey, while Chansey can take strong special attacks aimed at them physical walls. Additionally, Intimidate Pokemon such as Mandibuzz and Chesnaught are extremely bulky, (RC) and capable of walling a large portion of physical attackers. A Mega Evolution such as Mega Diancie can take a Knock Off or Trick aimed at Chansey, (AC) in order to preserve her Eviolite. Bulky setup Pokemon, such as Manaphy and Dragonite, appreciate Chansey's Wish-passing, as Wish can be used to keep them healthy. Chansey walls almost all special attackers, but Manaphy, Gengar, and Latios, in particular, give her trouble. For this reason, RegenVest Regenerator Assault Vest (This is a pretty colloquial term) variants of Goodra and Meloetta can be used to wall most Manaphy sets, RegenVest Meloetta can be used to and check Adaptability Latios, respectively, (AC) and both are solid counters against Sheer Force Gengar.

Intimidate allows Chansey to wall strong physical attackers, but even with Intimidate, Chansey still does not function well as a physical wall to physical attackers. With Chansey's high HP, Counter can easily net KOs against physical attackers, but Chansey's other moves are more useful overall.

**Substitute Users**: Ghost-type Pokemon with Substitute, such as Gengar, are unaffected by Chansey's Seismic Toss and can use Chansey as setup bait. Additionally, Chansey cannot poison Pokemon behind a Substitute, and if a Pokemon with Substitute user has a maximum HP of 404 HP or higher, Seismic Toss will fail to break the its Substitute in one hit.
GP 2/2

Hey! Here's a GP check. This check is a bit special, as it's the 100th one I've done for an analysis.
[OVERVIEW]
For this reason, RegenVest Regenerator Assault Vest (This is a pretty colloquial term) variants of Goodra and Meloetta can be used to wall most Manaphy sets, RegenVest Meloetta can be used to and check Adaptability Latios, respectively, (AC) and both are solid counters against Sheer Force Gengar.
I'm not sure if I understand this part, as the term "RegenVest" has been shown to be approved by GatoDelFuego according to this thread. I don't really know if I should keep "RegenVest" or not, so I'll leave it at copyediting for now until this is cleared up. Thanks a lot for the check and I'm happy to congratulate you for your 100th GP check :)! I have implemented your changes!

Oh, my bad. Keep my change, but just change "Regenerator Assault Vest" to "RegenVest," then. I didn't know there was a separate thing for OMs.
