How this works
There are TBD teams this year. Each team will have 6 players and at least 2 subs. The players are bought using the 80k credits that managers receive during the auction. Managers and co-managers will be allowed to purchase themselves as players for their team at a fixed price of 10k. The managers must inform the host (Isaiah) of all self purchases before the beginning of the auction. Teams can win their matchup every week by winning 4 of the 6 matches that their players have to play.
The tier lineup this year is as follows: SV Almost Any Ability (3 slots, one is 2AC), SS Almost Any Ability, SM Almost Any Ability, ORAS Almost Any Ability
It is recommended to play all games on SmogTours in the most current version of the format corresponding to those listed above. Games can be played on the Pokemon Showdown main server, but run higher risk of interference from server restarts/crashes. The result between players may be decided in a best-of-one or best-of-three at the discretion of both players involved. If there is no agreement, the result will decided in a Bo1 by default.
Winning a round rewards a team with 2 points, drawing 1 point, and losing zero points. In addition, the manner in which the round has been won will also be recorded i.e. the difference between a team's wins and losses in a specific week's round (referred to as "Win Differential").
Playoffs:
Each team will play one another for five weeks. Based on the final standings, the top 4 teams will enter a Playoffs Round to determine the teams appearing in the finals.

Tiebreaker
In the event of two teams being tied for a spot in the finals based on points and win differential, or a tie in the final round itself, we will have a tiebreaker round(s).

Substitutes
Substitutes are to be used in the case of extenuating circumstances, whether on the first day of the week, or the last. At the same time, players should be relatively well-aware of who all are available to play in the opponent's camp. If last minute substitutes are being frequently used or abused and the hosts find explanations unsatisfactory, the hosts still reserve the right to veto them. In order to further prevent this being the case, teams are only granted a maximum of two substitutes per week. Any substitutions after the second will be vetoed.

Trades
The hosts have decided to not include trades this year due to reasons outlined in this thread - all roster decisions will be final, so draft carefully!

To help people find inspiration for old gen teams, I compiled some replays from some big AAA tournaments of the past! Obviously not everything in these replays is legal anymore (make sure to check out the old gen hub for the banlists we will use for this AAAPL), but I figured that at the very least, having something to watch and get ideas from while you're trying to figure out, "What the heck do we bring this week?!" should help the process along :]

> The names in parentheses indicate a name change.
> If games weren't linked in the tour thread, I didn't bother trying to find them.

Submitting player lineups

Since everyone now has their players, here's how to submit lineups to be used for AAAPL weeks.

A week will last from Monday morning to Sunday night, so the deadline for submitting lineups will be at Sunday at 10:00 PM GMT -4, and failure to do so will result into randomization of your lineup for week one, or reuse of your previous week's lineup. Any illegal lineups will result in randomization or reuse of lineups. Any changes to said lineup afterwards will have to be done by using your two substitutes. Reminders will be sent out when appropriate.

When submitting your lineups, it is highly preferred that you send them via Smogon DM. Submissions by PS pms will NOT be accepted.

Here's the preferred process for lineup submission:

In Smogon DMs, make a conversation with the host (Isaiah) and your co-manager with the title "AAAPL Lineup Submissions" and include your lineup in the conversation. Submit the lineup exactly as in the formatting below (Code formatting (you can access this by clicking the insert option when making a post), and must include the @)

Code:
SV Almost Any Ability 1 - @PlayerName
SV Almost Any Ability 2 - @PlayerName
SV Almost Any Ability (2 Ability Clause) - @PlayerName
SS Almost Any Ability - @PlayerName
SM Almost Any Ability - @PlayerName
ORAS Almost Any Ability - @PlayerName

Note: Every week's lineup can be submitted in the same conversation, but each week must be in a new message, so you may not edit a prior message in the conversation with your new lineup.
Changes in lineups may happen freely before the deadline, after which substitutes will have to be used. Be sure to notify the host of each change.

Week 1 will start by Monday, August 14th, so get the lineups to me by Sunday, August 13th at 11:00 PM GMT-4.

Tiebreaker format change
1693264216163.png

Since it's an AAA tour anyway and I subjectively rate current gen as the most important metagame to pay attention to, the tiebreak format has been changed to be as follows:

There will be three metagames played in total:
Slot 1 = SV Almost Any Ability
Slot 2 = Picked by managers of first tiebreak team
Slot 3 = Picked by managers of second tiebreak team

Since SV AAA has multiple slots in this tour already anyway, I don't mind if there are repeats (so yes, all three slots could end up being SV AAA in the event of a tiebreak). If the managers have the same conclusion and it's any other meta (2AC, SS, SM, ORAS), I'll use !pick to decide slot 3.

Playoffs Tiebreaker

The Head Honchkrows and Psycho Psyducks have tied in their playoff series. As a result, we will have a tiebreaker. Managers (LordBox Career Ended zastra SpaceSpeakers), please submit your picks for the tiebreaker metas to me through a Smogon DM by tomorrow, September 18th at 2:00 PM GMT -5 using the following format:

Code:
Meta we want to play: [meta]

Tiebreaker rules are below as a refresher:

There will be three metagames played in total:
Slot 1 = SV Almost Any Ability
Slot 2 = Picked by managers of first tiebreak team
Slot 3 = Picked by managers of second tiebreak team

Since SV AAA has multiple slots in this tour already anyway, I don't mind if there are repeats (so yes, all three slots could end up being SV AAA in the event of a tiebreak). If the managers have the same conclusion and it's any other meta (2AC, SS, SM, ORAS), I'll use !pick to decide slot 3.
*Extra reminder: SV metas in the tiebreak will be Pre-DLC.

Also, congratulations to the Charming Charizzards, Smashing Salamences, and Cherry Pit Ceruledges for making it to playoffs!
