I believe that this is something beneficial, especially for those who use computers and/or cell phones with less processing capacity, even more so if the machine is older. It may happen that you just want to see the technical part without seeing the animation too.
There should be more reasons similar to the reasons for the option to disable animations in battles, and I believe it's reasonable to be able to disable animations in replays as well.
Having a replay mode where you focus only on the battle text could also be cool (being able to HIDE the battle, leaving only the text). This could make it easier to analyze the battle on small cell phone screens, for example, as the text would expand, filling the screen.
Likewise, being able to just place the battle without the textual part on the right side, sounds interesting.
