Welcome to Break This Team: AG Edition! This project follows a simple layout, with the submission and voting stages taking place on a week by week basis. Most metagame defining teams may seem perfect on the surface, but they all have their undeniable flaws, and this project aims to help point out those weak links. Each week, I'll post a team that was built by someone invested in the metagame, and the participants will then try to break this team with a core made of just two Pokémon.

As stated earlier, the project will have two phases each week: the submission phase and the voting phase. The submission phase will have a duration of five days and participants are allowed to post a core with two Pokémon within that time. Then the voting phase will last two days and people can vote for their two favorite cores (this number is subject to change, depending on the number of submitted cores). Lastly, if you win a week, you will be placed in the Hall of Fame, and if you happen to win two weeks, you'll be able to PM me with your own team and it will be submitted in this thread for that other people try to break it!

RULES:
  • Please attempt to not post one-liners. This includes extremely short descriptions. You don't need to write an elaborate essay, but try to at least provide a satisfactory description of the core. Don't post "these Pokémon work well together and I think that it will break this team ", try to elaborate on a good post with an explanation of how the core performs against the team.
  • This is not a counterteaming competition. This is an attempt to get the community to find viable, functional cores that work generally well in the meta which the team of the week is weak to.
  • By extension, try not to post gimmicky sets. Using Shuca Berry Eternatus to take advantage of Arceus Ground is NOT a viable choice.
  • Again, participants are only allowed to post one core with only two Pokémon.
  • Please don't vote on your own core, or I'll some nerd will delete your post.
  • Please make your votes clear. You can shorten out the names of the people you vote for, but if you do, at least spell the shortened version how it is. I shouldn't have to wonder if you're voting for users.
  • Don't rally people to vote for your own core. This is not fair at all to the other participants, and if you're caught doing this then you won’t be allowed to post or even offer any ideas in this thread.
  • A small explanation would be appreciated when voting.
  • Participants are allowed to do reservations, but if they don't post the sets with the explanation within 48 hours, other participants are allowed to take it.
  • In order to encourage creativity and originality between submissions, the same Pokemon can only be used two times maximum per submissions round.
  • Most importantly, have fun!
  • Keep in mind that in order to maximize originality, each week will feature a different AG metagame team, from ORAS to Galar. Please read either this post or the latest post by me or my co-host to see what meta the team is for, and submit accordingly.

:sm/Zygarde-Complete::sm/Kyogre-Primal:

Rest Kyogre Primal + Rest Zygarde-Complete is a really powerful core in Natdex AG in general, many teams are weak to it due to the core being able to easily outlast its checks and the team above is no exception. Glare Coil Zygarde sets up easily, only being threatened by Lunala. It is a huge pest to Kate's team, able to spread paralysis to a lot of team members, and more importantly stops any meaningful progress from the teams main wincons, Waterceus and Zacian so long as it is kept relatively healthy. Kyogre Primal with Thunder is hard to resist in Natdex AG, and it basically massively damages everything on this team and more importantly comes in on Kate's Lunala for free, patching up Zygarde's weakness, and forcing the team into an awkward position where it must go Lunala to combat Zygarde, but a paralyzed Lunala is a sitting duck for Kyogre enabling it to pretty much claim a kill every time risk free.

:ss/kyogre: :ss/Ferrothorn: This core is simply just for checking ditto aswell as chipping nala and other mons with ferro and finding a way to safely come into ogre and tearing holes into most teams sheer cold is for hitting nala baiting the ditto into using sheer cold on your dmax giving you a free max thunder vs the thing that gives this core troubles forcing speed ties and chipping your hp which is needed with a scarf spout user if they do go max thunder it might be safer to go ferro first and dynamaxing it which is why we have pwhip rather then gyro ferro also slightly helps vs sd waterceus forcing dyna and then killing with a thunder. Spout also kills zacian a potential threat if it does carry cc. The ygod set on the team we are trying to break doesn't have sucker which is huge for ogre and even better for ferro because there isn't anything like heat wave to threaten a ohko. You always need to chip nala with leech or have spikes pressure so you don't have to force the sheer cold hitting on nala aswell as revealing you aren't ice beam. Spout also threatens the team we're trying to break pretty well nothing can swap in other then ditto but then they have to make a 50/50 play whether to thunder into ferro or to sheer cold the ferro/kyogre or just simply wasting it because of dyna. The only real threat is nala pressing toxic but luckilly it can miss and ferro slightly pressure's them going hard zac which can decide the game pretty easilly.

Kaitlyn's fervent wish reached Tic-Tac-Toe Guru! Tic-Tac-Toe Guru has submitted for a meta he doesn't play!

:ss/quagsire: :ss/arceus-fairy:

Nevertheless, I feel like this core is pretty solid in stopping this team. Quagsire switches into pokemon like Necrozma and Zacian, preventing them from doing any major damage or set up, and it can do a pretty good job of inhibiting the physical offensive Arceus-Water by prohibiting set-up and threatening Scald burns. CM-Refresh Arceus-Fairy can then threaten the status-inducing Lunala and Yveltal while also remaining relatively Imposter-proof from the opposing Ditto. I feel this core can do a fairly successful job at inhibiting the offensive and status-inducing powers of this team.

I feel like cm refresh dark ceus causes a big pain to the team solely for the fact that yve does not carry uturn. After some chip to Zac, the opponent can generally afford to dyna on it due to the lack of breakers and with no uturn, chip is easy cause of the 50/50s. A good mon that goes well with dark and also punishes the team is ho-oh. Toxic and sacred just messes up the whole team and regen will somewhat negate the effect of Toxic which is what Luna and yve heavily rely on.

Rest Primal Groudon can come in on the entire defensive core, soak up status and use it as setup bait. Zacian-C is also forced out by Groudon, leaving Arceus-Water and Ditto to check it. Ditto has to come in on a predicted Swords Dance/Rest or after a Pokemon has fainted in order to be safe, while Arceus-Water is OHKOd by +2 Precipice Blades most of the time (unless it Dynamaxes), and chip is easy to achieve anyways with Rock Tomb or hazards, especially with Yveltal being the removal of choice. The defense investment is to prevent Adamant Zacian-C from 2HKOing with Close Combat from full, while the speed investment allows Groudon to outspeed max speed neutral natured Arceus (and Adamant Mega Rayquazas) at -1. You can put 44 EVs into Attack to get the guaranteed OHKO on 0 HP Arceus from full, but I personally don't like taking that much out of SpDef. Mega Latias is a weird pick but it imposter-proofs Groudon fairly well, and Swords Dance Arceus-Water is not getting past Latias without Dynamaxing, or if Latias has Charm. It also checks other ground-move Arceus-Water, Arceus-Ground and opposing offensive Groudon-Primals for Groudon.

This team features a strong wallbreaking duo in Mega Rayquaza and Ultra Necrozma, capable of cleaving through most teams if just given any leverage. Aiding the sweepers is the strong defensive core of Specially Defensive Primal Groudon and Arceus Fairy. Pdon serves as a much needed stopgap to support arceus forms such as opposing Fairceus and Waterceus, while Fairceus is a solid answer to Mray, Marshadow, Zygarde, and Yveltal. Tyranitar comes into play to further solidify the Mray matchup and provide a good countermeasure to Focus Blast Mgar and Lunala. Finally, Arceus Dark serves as this team's primary wincon, being able to easily clean teams in the lategame. What devious tricks can you come up with to thwart this dangerous team?

Remember to submit following the format of USUM AG! Have fun!
Submission deadline is March 13th at 10pm gmt-5.

This core is pretty self-explanatory: Skarmory walls all of the physical attackers and Chansey walls all of the special attackers.

Skarmory defeats the non-V-Create DD MRay, Necrozma-Ultra, and non-fire move Groudon-Primal every time. Iron defense is vital as it enables Skarmory to switch in to and outlast an enemy Necrozma-Ultra wielding its signature Z-move every time if Skarmory is at full health. In the worst-case scenario, Ultra-Necrozma barely misses the 2hko (+2 Light That Burns The Sky into +2 Photon Geyser) if Skarmory uses Iron Defense as soon as it switches in as evidenced here: +2 252 Atk Necrozma-Ultra Light That Burns the Sky vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 223-263 (66.7 - 78.7%) and afterward +2 252 Atk Necrozma-Ultra Photon Geyser vs. +2 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 56-66 (16.7 - 19.7%). Rocks chip is negated by Leftovers and is therefore neglected during the calculation. All other physical interactions between Skarmory and breakers on the opponent's team are negligible as they pale in comparison to the worst-case scenario illustrated against a Z-move Necrozma-Ultra.

On the other hand, Chansey easily walls and PP stalls Calm Mind Darkceus with Confide. While it's PP stalling the Darkceus, it can provide cleric support to the rest of the team via Aromatherapy and threaten potential switch-ins with Toxic. Its defenses are maxed out and its nature is bold to minimize damage taken from Tyranitar's pursuit.

Perhaps the greatest benefit of this core is its ability to apply constant spikes pressure to this specific team. Any time Groudon, Tyranitar, Rayquaza, and Ultra-Necrozma switches in is an opportunity for Skarmory to set spikes. Furthermore, the opponent's only defogger is Fairyceus, which is unable to harm Skarmory with a resisted Judgement and loses long term as it gets Toxic'd while trying to Defog. Over time, the enemy team will get worn down and eventually succumb to hazards and Toxic damage.

Arc-Dark + Arc-Poison is a well-known general Bulky Offense/Balance core that has a positive match-up versus Dockiva's team. The basis behind the core is that Arc-Dark is able to switch-in to Psychic-type and most Ground-type attacks aimed at Arc-Poison while Arc-Poison reciprocates by switching into Fairy-type and Fighting-type attacks for Arc-Dark.

This particular Arc-Dark is able to outspeed the two largest threats to it on the team (MRay and Arc-Fairy) and applies pressure on the whole team, seeing as Arc-Fairy doesn't counter it over the long-term without a crit. Wisp is necessary on this Arc-Poison to punish two of the three sweepers on the team. Earth Power seems like a suboptimal move on Arc-Poison, but it allows Arc-Poison to actually cause damage to PDon and Tar without needing to rely on 30% chance for poison (also allows Arc-Poison to beat most MGar, non SD SpDef DM, Heatran, Salazzle, and opposing Arc-Poison in the long-term). Alternatively, Perish Song can be used to actually scare the Arc-Dark attempting to set-up Calm Mind boosts, thus giving our own Arc-Dark initiative to begin breaking down Dockiva's team.

Honestly like, throw on a Flying-type resist, a POgre check, a breaker, and a better CM Arc check and you have a pretty solid team.

S/o Polt for this. Bae wouldn't let me submit this set for some strange reason. Zyg comes in on a predicted Tar switch-in/Rest, traps Arc-Fairy, PP stalls the 16 Judgment, and sets up to +6 for a sweep, barring a crit. The game literally ends at that point. Your opponent will be unable to click any further moves and they're automatically booted from the game.

bit unfort that both skarm and celes were used already, but they do both wall the two most dangerous threats on this team so im stealing it. iron defense skarmory completely walls both mega ray and ultra necro, since ray is eq>vcreate. you can just spread toxic and lay spikes for free, which mmx completely takes advantage of. mmx + spikes is a very underrated combo, and this team in particular gets absolutely rocked by low kick + taunt, forcing multiple switches so that spikes damage racks up like crazy. arceus-fairy is the only switch-in and gets put on a timer with toxic, which makes it really hard for the opposing team to defog, so your spikes will eventually stay up. mmx (once evolved) can come in for free against arceus-dark and tyranitar and do massive damage. the only pokemon that threaten mewtwo even a bit are mega ray, groudon, and arceus-fairy, all of which skarmory walls; actually literally the only pokemon that touches skarmory at all is arceus-dark, which gives free switches to mmx.

The team itself is a bit weak to offenses featuring multiple SD Arc. Deo-Speed + Geo Xern is a pretty solid general offense core in ORAS AG featured on numerous teams throughout the years. The main Xern check on the team is prone to Rock's so get up Rock's with a Taunt mon (most notably Deo-Speed or Aero) and you're set. All Xern needs to do is set up, hit a Thunder on Ho-Oh, Focus Blast on Arc-Steel (imagine hitting lmao), and the team is unable to come back from the deficit. The speed on this set allows Xern to outspeeds Scarf MRay at +2.

Do I need to post calcs? It's ORAS Geo Xern; everything dies.
