[Overview]

  • One of the fastest Pokemon with access to Spikes, besides Deoxys-S, Deoxys-A, and Deoxys.
  • Respectable base 100 Special Attack lets it make a significant dent on the plethora of Psychic- and Dark-types in OU.
  • However, Agirudaa’s abysmal defenses, lack of resistance, Stealth Rock weakness, and limited coverage will relegate it to the lead position most of the time.
[SET]
name: Lead
move 1: Spikes
move 2: U-turn
move 3: Bug Buzz
move 4: Focus Blast / Yawn
nature: Hasty
item: Focus Sash
ability: Sticky Hold
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[Set Comments]
  • One of the fastest Spikes user, coming behind Deoxys-S, Deoxys-A, and Deoxys.
  • U-turn renders opposing Focus Sash useless and lets Agirudaa come in later in the match and set up then.
  • Bug Buzz is for STAB and has the possibility of OHKOing common leads, such as Darkrai and Espeon.
  • Yawn forces the opponent to switch or lose a team member to sleep, which can give Agirudaa an extra turn to set up more layers of Spikes, while at the same time it helps rack up Spikes damage.
[Additional Comments]
  • Focus Blast hits Heatran for a 2HKO and Tyranitar has a good chance of being OHKOed.
  • Sticky Hold stops the opposing Pokemon from Tricking Agirudaa into holding a debilitating item.

  • Mischievous Heart users prevent Agirudaa from laying down Spikes or using Yawn, especially Tornelados and Voltelos, which resist Bug Buzz.
  • Espeon and Xatu are good teammates, as they can reflect Taunt back thanks to Magic Mirror. Additionally, Magic Mirror can reflect entry hazards back to the opposing field to supplement Agirudaa’s Spikes and prevent Agirudaa’s Focus Sash from being broken by residual damage from entry hazards.
  • Ghost-types pair well with Agirudda to prevent the opponent from spinning away the layer of Spikes. Burungeru works well due to it’s bulk and access to Taunt and status inflicting moves like Toxic and Will-O-Wisp to shut down common Rapid Spinners, such as Forretress and Doryuuzu.
[Team Options]

  • Offensive Pokemon appreciate Agirudaa’s Spikes support. Grachomp is one of numerous teammates, as it is resistant to Rock and Fire attacks and can OHKO most Pokemon after a Swords Dance boost with help from Agirudaa’s Spikes.
  • Ghost-types work well alongside Agirudaa to prevent Rapid Spin from removing Spikes. Shandera is a good choice due its impressive Special Attack and access to Flash Fire. Desukan and Burungeru have good bulk,so they can easily come with impunity and deal with most Rapid Spinners,
  • A Rapid Spinner of your own helps Agirudaa come in later in the match if necessary. Kabutops is a good choice because of its resistance to all of Agirudaa’s weaknesses.
[Optional Changes]

  • Baton Pass is useful in conjunction with Acid Armor, Agility, and Substitute, as Agirudaa certainly has the Speed to use it, but finds it difficult to accumulate boost due to its frailty.
  • Encore can provide Agirudaa with more opportunities to gain boosts when used alongside Agility and Acid Armor, but is unfortunately illegal with Spikes where it would have been most useful.
  • Recover is a decent option with a bulkier EV spread. Rest is useful on Rain teams with Hydration, again with a bulkier EV spread to help Agirudaa last a few rounds.
  • Toxic can be used to wear down defensive Pokemon as the battle progresses, but Agirudaa lacks the defenses to use it without potentially being KOed in the process.
  • Guard Share is a gimmick in an attempt to improve Agirudaa’s Defense and Special Defense and reduce your opponent’s defense, but it really depends on the Pokemon Agirudaa is facing.
  • A offensive set is viable with Choice Specs or Life Orb, but due to the lack of coverage in its moves, Stealth Rock weakness, and frailty, Agirudaa will have staying in or surviving through most of the match.
[Counters]

  • Priority moves, such as Bullet Punch and Aqua jet, will tear through Agirudaa.
  • Mischievous Heart Pokemon with Taunt shut down Agirudaa.
  • Choice Scarf Pokemon give Agirudaa a hard time, as most can KO it easily. Pokemon with Swift Swim, Chlorophyll, or Sand Throw can also outrun Agirudaa and easily dispose of it.
  • Tyranitar and Hippowdon can negate Focus Sash thanks to Sand Stream producing a perpetual sandstorm, and can OHKO Agirudaa.
[Dream World]

Agirudaa receives Unburden from Dream World. Uburden will double Agirudaa’s Speed when it consumes an item or loses it. Sticky Hold is arguably better as it prevents Trick from stealing Agirudaa’s item, but Unburden can give Agirudaa the necessary Speed boost to outrun Choice Scarfed Pokemon. Additionally, it can be used with stat boosting berries, such as the Petaya berry, to improve Agirudaa’s sweeping capabilities. However, Agiruuda will be left at a low HP and easily revenge killed by priority moves.

Encore can provide Agirudaa with more opportunities to set up Spikes or gain some boost, while forcing switches to rack up some residual damage on the opposing team.

IIRC, Encore and Spikes are illegal together, since both are egg moves and come from different Pokemon families. Too bad =/

Also, are you sure that Focus Blast is a good idea on the lead set? A chance to OHKO Tyranitar is dandy, but you also risk a 30% chance of being at a 6-5 loss from the very first turn.

-_- can't believe I forgot that, even had it written down as an illegal move combo. Fixed that. As for Focus Blast, there weren't too many secondary choices for the last slot and personally, I'd rather have 70% chance of getting rid of t-tar early in the match, especially if you're running your own weather team, than none at all.

Make Focus Blast the first slash and this is good. Having the chance to beat Aerodactyl, Tyranitar, Heatran among others is probably a lot more beneficial than 'forcing switches' with Yawn. It's also cool for random spinner Doryuuzu's and forretress's.

2/2

  • Life Gamble can inflict serious damage on opposing leads, but leaves Agirudaa at 1 HP and easily KOed by priority or weather.

From the research thread, it looks like Life Gamble KO's you outright.

Confirmed Life Gamble KOs the user and deals damage equal to the amount of HP the user had before using the move. However, the user will not faint if Life Gamble fails to affect the target, whether due to a miss, Protect, or type immunity. Focus Sash or Sturdy can prevent the target from being KO'd by this move.
