Alolan Marowak [QC 0/3]

Pinboim3

Rain days are the worst
[OVERVIEW]
  • Alolan Marowak´s great typing and a great attack boosted by Thick Club make it very powerful and a dangerous wallbreaker in the tier.
  • Its decent bulk make it so Marowak can tank a good amount of hits while killing other Pokemon.
  • By having Rock Head, Marowak can hit as many Flare Blitz as it wants without taking any recoil damage.
  • Its weakness to Stealth Rock and to Knock Off make him much easier to take down since Marowak will take a lot of damage every time it comes in.
  • Its mediocre speed tier make it one of the slowest pokemon in the tier.
  • Its reliance and dependance on Thick Club make it predictable and easy to counter.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
  • Flare Blitz is Marowak's main and strongest STAB as it 2HKO almost everything in the Tier besides Bulky Water Types.
  • Having such a powerful move even boosted by STAB, make Marowak very difficult to switch into.
  • Shadow Bone is Marowak Ghost STAB and it is the spammable move of this set since there are only a few viable Ghost resists.
  • Swords Dance makes your attack extremely high since with only +2 its attack get raised to 1134 and with that it can OHKO every Pokemon in UU even the more physically deffensive ones.
  • Low Kick is Marowak's best option of coverage as it enables Marowak to hit its main counter and checks super effectively, like Hydreigon, which OHKOs, Krookodile, Crawdaunt and M-Sharpedo.

Set Details
========
  • Maximum Attack investment in conjuction with a Brave nature make his attack high as possible and his Speed low as it needs to work in Trick Room.
  • Maximum HP investment allow Marowak to tank a lot of hits before it gets taken down.
  • Thick Club doubles Alolan Marowak's Attack stat, which allows it to hit 568 Attack .
  • Rock Head is the chosen ablity because, this way, it doesn't take recoil damage after using Flare Blitz.
Usage Tips
========

  • Ensure that there are no hazards on the field when Marowak comes in due to its lack of recovery and weakness to Stealth Rock.
  • Try to get Trick Room set up when Marowak comes in, this way Marowak can fully abuse his potential as a wallbreaker.
  • Take advantage of its amazing typing to offensively check some of the most common Pokemon such as Scizor and Infernape.
  • Don't switch Marowak in too much because getting his health low won't make him that useful.
  • When you start setting up predicting a switch in you need to be sure that this way you can ensure a KO.

Team Options
========

  • Due to its awful speed tier, Marowak should almost exclusively used in dedicated Trick Room teams, so pokemon like Uxie and Stakataka, that give Stealth Rock support and Uxie also gives Memento support and Cresselia which can heal Marowak with Lunar Dance.
  • Grass types like Amomguss and Celebi are good partners since they cover Marowak's weakness to Water and Ground types such as Swampert, Seismitoad, Suicune and Krokodile.
  • Since it is weak to Dark types, Fairy and Fighting types like Sylveon, Primarina and Bewear are needed to kill them for Marowak to come in without fearing taking a lot of damage.
  • Pokemon capable of removing hazards like Tentacruel, M-Blastoise with Rapid Spin are very helpful to Marowak.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
  • Stealth Rock is a great support move and Marowak can set it easily due to its good bulk and offensive presence as it can put rocks on the field by forcing switch ins.
  • Shadow Bone is Marowak Ghost STAB and it is the spammable move of this set since there are only a few viable Ghost resists.
  • Fire Punch and Flare Blitz can be used as Marowak Fire STAB. Fire Punch is the main option as a Fire STAB if you don´t to wear Marowak down but its BP is lower than Flare Blitz, which hits much harder, but this way you´re subjected to taking recoil damage.
  • As its last move Marowak has three good options. Swords Dance makes your attack extremely high since with only +2 its attack get raised to 1134 and with that it can OHKO every Pokemon in UU even the more physically deffensive ones. Knock Off capability of taking items is a big advantage, it also provides a good neutral coverage and it reduces switch ins since it removes items.
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Substitute can be used instead of Swords Dance. Being able to attack hard while not taking damage and not being paralyzed or toxic, make taking down faster or bulkier Pokemon easier.
  • But Swords Dance is still the best option because having its attack boosted is one of the main factors that make it such a dangerous wallbreaker.
Checks and Counters
===================

**Water-Types**: Mega Sharpedo outspeds Marowak out of Trick Roo, resists both STABs and can OHKOes with crunch. Crawdaunt counters Marowak the same way that Mega Sharpedo does as it has the same typing and manages to OHKO. All bulky water types can threathen Marowak by the fact that they take all Marowak attacks and can return with scald, try to set up rocks like Swampert and Seismitoad; Alomomola can stall Marowak with Toxic, Wish and Protect, it also does a good amount of damage with Scald; Suicune can use Marowak to set up Calm Mind or Substitue and 2HKO with Scald.
**Dark-Types**: Hydreigon resists both STABs, is immune to Bonemerang and can finish it off with Dark Pulse. Krookodile has intimidate to lower Marowak attack stat, its STABs OHKO Marowak after Stealth Rocks and even if Marowak tries to switch, Krookodile can use Pursuit to take it down. Alolan Muk can also counter Marowak by using Knock Off but you must be aware that if Marowak is at full health you can OHKO Muk with Flare Blitz or Bonemerang.
**Entry Hazard**: As refered before, Marowak potential in a battle is held off by weakness to Stealth Rock, meaning entry hazards wear it down very quickly.

hi Pinboim3

your analysis has to be in bullet points before 2 qc checks, and it’s only written up after 2/3. sage already informed you of this and linked the analysis format, so please address this before checks.

Hello Pinboim3!

The UU QC team has talked about what to do with this particular Pokemon's analysis and we've reached the consensus that it should be split up into two different sets. One set should specifically be used for wallbreaking on Trick Room with Rock Head while another should focus more on the utility of its Lightning Rod ability as an offensive Stealth Rock setter that can check Electric-types. Here are the sets we'd like you to change what you currently have to:

name: Trick Room Wallbreaker
move 1: Flare Blitz
move 2: Shadow Bone
move 3: Swords Dance
move 4: Low Kick
item: Thick Club
ability: Rock Head
nature: Adamant
evs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
ivs: 0 Spe

Okay so this should be the main set, and make sure you note when writing about it that it's exclusively used on Trick Room teams in your Usage Tips and Team Options sections (it seems this is already the case, though I'd make sure that some of your listed examples in Team Options are replace with Pokemon better suited for Trick Room teams than, say, an Infernape or Cobalion). EVs and IVs maximize Attack, make it as fast as possible under Trick Room, and give it some bulk that can be useful for tanking a few hits as it sweeps. Low Kick is for hitting Hydreigon super effectively.

name: Stealth Rock
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Shadow Bone
move 3: Fire Punch / Flare Blitz
move 4: Swords Dance / Low Kick / Knock Off
item: Thick Club
ability: Lightning Rod
nature: Adamant
evs: 88 HP / 252 Atk / 168 Spe

This set plays a little differently than its Trick Room set, as Alolan Marowak's goal is to force switches in order to set Stealth Rock. 168 Speed outruns 0 Speed Scizor and everything slower, so be sure to note that. It uses Lightning Rod to check Electric-types, which also means that Fire Punch becomes a more viable option so as not to give it recoil damage when it uses its Fire-type STAB (Flare Blitz is still a consideration here though). The last slot is chosen depending on what Marowak's team needs most, so make sure you articulate that in the post. Swords Dance boosts its attack and allows it to pose a larger offensive threat after setting Stealth Rock, Low Kick hits Hydreigon on the switch, and Knock Off is a good general utility move that has decent neutral coverage and burdens switch-ins with item removal, which can be pretty big.

Let me know when you've modified the analysis to make these the sets, and I'll give this its first check sometime afterward. Thanks!
