[OVERVIEW]

Ambipom's niche is in its access to STAB- and Technician-boosted Fake Out, which allows it to pressure most offensive teams with a relatively strong priority move. Furthermore, U-turn coupled with decent offensive stats allows Ambipom to act as an offensive pivot. However, STAB priority is much better on Pokemon such as Sneasel, Comfey, and Decidueye because not only do their priority moves provide stronger offensive coverage, they can also be used more than once after they enter battle. While Ambipom may be fast and decently strong, it cannot take a hit thanks to its poor bulk, and it has mediocre firepower due to being reliant on its Normal STAB moves for damage, rather than super effective coverage, which makes it difficult for Ambipom to even dent the top defensive cores in NeverUsed, which is why it is outclassed as an all-out offensive pivot by Pokemon such as Passimian, Heliolisk, Rotom, and Whimsicott. Ambipom is also very easy to wear down because it is vulnerable to all entry hazards, status conditions, and the recoil from Life Orb. All of these flaws make Ambipom a very poor choice to put on a team in the current NeverUsed environment.

Moves
========

Fake Out is Ambipom's only priority move, scoring free damage and a flinch on the foe. It also is relatively strong thanks to STAB and a Technician boost, making it an effective tool to check weakened threats. Fake Out forces a lot of switches, so it pairs well with Pursuit. Return is the second STAB option for high and consistent damage output. Low Kick inflicts important chip damage on Pokemon like Steelix, Rhydon, and Klinklang. Pursuit punishes the opposing Pokemon should they switch out on Ambipom and also gets a Technician boost. U-turn allows Ambipom to switch out of situations it can't handle, allowing a teammate to come in and deal with it in its place.

Set Details
========

Maximum Speed and Attack EVs with a Jolly Nature and Life Orb ensure that Ambipom will be hitting as hard and as fast as possible. Technician is the best ability for this set because it boosts the power of Ambipom's Fake Out, turning it into an effective tool for revenge killing weakened foes.

Usage Tips
========

Ambipom is a full-on offensive Pokemon that checks frail threats with Fake Out. Fake Out is generally a safe play to make on the first turn and can be used mid- or late-game to check and revenge kill weakened threats. Keep in mind that a predicted Fake Out can lead to a switch to a Pokemon that can resist the move such as Steelix, Diancie, and Rotom. Return should be used to get good, consistent damage on the opponent's team once Ambipom's normal checks and counters are gone. Low Kick should be used to get sizable damage on Pokemon like Steelix, Silvally-Steel, and Rhydon, which Ambipom can outspeed and has a chance to revenge kill with entry hazards up. Since Ambipom forces so many switches because of Fake Out, you could also take advantage of Pursuit to pressure the opponent even more. This is especially effective on Pokemon like pivot Slowbro, Delphox, and Vanilluxe. Pursuit is also effective if the opponent is a Choice-locked Ghost-type Pokemon such as Rotom or Dhelmise. Do not switch in Ambipom on any attack because it needs to be as healthy as possible to revenge kill weakened foes, and do not let it take any status condition. Burn halves its Attack, paralysis cripples its speed, sleep makes it a sitting duck, and Toxic depletes its HP, putting Ambipom on a timer. If you must switch in Ambipom, then a partner with a slow U-turn or Volt Switch is highly recommended. Ambipom can also safely come in on a predicted double switch, but try to make sure that all entry hazards are cleared, since they cut into Ambipom's longevity.

Team Options
========

Ambipom forces switches often, so Pokemon that can lay entry hazards on the field like Steelix, Diancie, and Garbodor are generally appreciated. Garbodor is notable, since it resists Fighting-type moves and can proceed to lay down Spikes or Toxic Spikes. It also can remove Toxic Spikes for Ambipom. Ambipom often baits in Fighting-type Pokemon, so partners that can deal super effective damage to them such as Slowbro, Comfey, Delphox, and Braviary are generally appreciated. On the same note, Ghost-type partners like Rotom, Palossand, and Decidueye can safely come in on Fighting-type moves. Ambipom struggles to damage physically defensive Pokemon, so wallbreakers like Vanilluxe, Sceptile, Diancie, and Choice Specs Comfey are much appreciated. Pokemon such as Blastoise, Sceptile, and Passimian, which can handle the Rock-types in NU, also make good teammates for Ambipom, and Fire-types such as Incineroar, Houndoom, and Delphox make decent partners not only for absorbing burns from Will-O-Wisp but also to beat the Steel-type Pokemon Ambipom cannot dent. Pokemon like Blastoise, Cryogonal, Xatu, and Silvally-Steel are also notable for removing entry hazards on Ambipom's side of the field, improving Ambipom's longevity. In Xatu's case, it can bounce back entry hazards with its Magic Bounce ability. A slow user of U-turn, Parting Shot, or Volt Switch like Incineroar, Silvally-Steel, or Vikavolt can safely bring Ambipom in on a threat it can pressure.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Ambipom has a large movepool, but choosing any of these moves over the standard set is generally situational. For example, Seed Bomb can hit Rhydon, Slowbro, and Diancie, but replacing any move from the standard set allows more Pokemon to wall Ambipom. Silk Scarf can be used instead of Life Orb to boost Fake Out and Return's power with the nice effect of no recoil. However, the lack of immediate power on its other moves is noticeable. For example, Silk Scarf Ambipom's Return misses out on a 2HKO on Assault Vest Slowbro, and Low Kick only has a slight chance to 3HKO Steelix where Life Orb guarantees it. Knock Off can be used to remove the opposing Pokemon's item and avoid being walled by Ghost-types. Using Skill Link in conjunction with Tail Slap seems appealing, due to the fact that the move can break Substitutes. However, this takes away from Ambipom's niche in NU because Cinccino is a far better Skill Link user thanks to its ability to threaten Rhydon and Diancie with Bullet Seed. Using a set with only Fake Out and Last Resort seems like a good option on paper, but in practice it is hard walled by all of the Rock-, Steel-, and Ghost-type Pokemon in NU and requires too much support to function properly.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Rock-type and Steel-type Pokemon**: Even with Low Kick, Ambipom has difficulty beating Rock- and Steel-type Pokemon. All of them including Rhydon, Diancie, and Steelix can take a hit from Low Kick and retaliate by setting up Stealth Rock, setting up, or hit Ambipom hard with powerful moves. Ferroseed can also wear Ambipom down with the combination of Iron Barbs and Leech Seed.

**Fighting-type Pokemon**: Every Fighting-type in NU can KO Ambipom with their STAB moves due to Ambipom's weakness to them. Some Pokemon like Medicham and Hariyama carry priority like Bullet Punch or Fake Out to revenge kill it. Choice Scarf Passimian is also notable because it outspeeds Ambipom and proceeds to KO it. However, none of them want to take a Fake Out if they are weak.

**Ghost-type Pokemon**: Ghost-types such as Palossand, Rotom, Decidueye, Dhelmise, and Mismagius can come in safely on Ambipom because they are immune to its STAB and resist U-turn. This is especially an issue should Ambipom run Low Kick. Keep in mind they are vulnerable to Pursuit, especially if they are Choice-locked.

**Faster Pokemon**: Very few Pokemon in NU outspeed Ambipom naturally, but they do need to be wary about switching into Fake Out or Return. Sceptile, Whimsicott, and most Choice Scarf users outspeed Ambipom and can threaten it with their powerful STAB attacks or super effective Fighting-type moves such as a Close Combat from Passimian. Furthermore, Ambipom is susceptible to being revenge killed by common priority moves such as Sneasel's Ice Shard, Triage Comfey's Draining Kiss, and Medicham's Bullet Punch.

**Physically Bulky Pokemon**. Despite its decent Attack stat, Ambipom has trouble with physically defensive Pokemon because they all can stomach a hit and retaliate with crippling status or do hefty damage to it. Garbodor's Rocky Helmet and Vileplume's Effect Spore punish contact moves, and both can dish out sizable damage to Ambipom in return. Slowbro and Vaporeon can take a hit from Ambipom and can burn it with Scald. Druddigon can hurt Ambipom with Rocky Helmet damage and can cripple it with Glare. Pokemon like Torterra and Quagsire can also shrug off a hit from Ambipom and recover their HP. Bulky setup sweepers such as Scrafty and Klinklang can stomach any attack from Ambipom and proceed to set up with Bulk Up, Dragon Dance, or Shift Gear.

I'm not part of QC or anything so take this for a grain of salt, but I don't think this is anywhere near close to ready for QC checks.

Overview contradicts itself (You say that it has somewhat of a niche and describe its potential offensive capabilities and then go on to say that it's completely useless. Normal- type competition also needs specific examples) Set Details and Usage Tips are incredibly barebones, Pursuit should definitely be on the main set if not much higher up in Other Options (especially since you're willing to put stuff like Z-Laser Focus and Fire Punch on OO) Checks and Counters has tons of issues (Rock and Steel types shouldn't be grouped together, status section needs to be expanded, Incineroar doesn't deserve its own bullet, especially since it gets 2HKO'd by -1 Tail Slap after rocks), and there's just writing issues plagued all throughout this, including several sections being almost completely empty and many important move/scenario details being absent.

e: formatting's off, everything from Overview to Other Options need to be listed in bullets until you get your 2nd QC check.

[OVERVIEW]

  • To be perfectly honest, Ambipom is not a good Pokémon in NU.
    Explain why it isn't a good mon in nu, things like why it struggles with steel types, or the competition it faces from other more viable normals.

  • STAB Technician Fake Out is not a strong enough niche to justify its use
    This is literally the main selling point of the mon. The strength of its fake out is actually really strong and if you are using it, this is why due to it giving you amazing sand match up as you can force out all the sand sweepers or they take massive damage + lose a turn of sand. And then added to that the Pursuit pressure and you actually now have pretty decent sand MU.

  • Ambipom is horribly outclassed at everything it tries.
    This is too harsh. It has a strong niche, and isn't out classed in it. Its just you have to ask yourself if the niche it offers is worth it.

  • As a pivot, Incineroar and Silvally-Steel have much better defensive utility with better typings, Intimidate, Will-o-Wisp, and Parting Shot than Ambipom's Normal-type with U-turn.
  • As a Normal-type, Cincinno, Stoutland, Braviary. Dodrio, and Zangoose all have higher damage output and far greater coverage than Ambipom.
  • Ambipom may be fast but it has poor bulk, so it has to rely on dealing damage while taking none in return.
  • Ambipom also has mediocre firepower due to being reliant on neutral damage from its Normal STAB over supereffective coverage and struggling against bulkier teams.
  • All of these factors make Ambipom a very poor choice on a serious NU team.
    Rephrase this part. Don't just call it a poor choice on every nu team, nail home the fact that its hard to justify on most teams due to X, Y, and Z reasons.

Drop Tail Slap and Skill Link from slash as at that point you're a worse Cinccino. The only viable set this mon has is the Technician one. Swap Pursuit and Knock off, making Knock Off the slash. The main set and the main reason you'd use this is the Fake Out + Pursuit pressure.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

  • Fake Out is Ambipom's only priority and niche, scoring free damage and a flinch on the foe thanks to STAB and Technician.
  • However, it is pretty predictable and usually forces a switch to a Pokémon like Steelix or Gigalith that can easily take the hit and leave Ambipom in the open.
    Which can come into its favor when it runs Pursuit. Make a mention of Pursuit right over this and mention the synergy between the two.

  • Return is the second STAB option with high and consistent damage output.
  • Tail Slap is notable for STAB and a Technician boost, as well as breaking Substitutes.
    Take this out.

  • However, it has inconsistent damage output without Skill Link, no real power without Technician, and has a chance to miss, not good traits on such a frail Pokémon.
    Take this out.

  • Knock Off and Pursuit nails Ghost-types, with the added bonus of removing the foe's item in Knock Off's case.
  • Pursuit also gets a Techician boosts and is appealing since Ambipom forces a lot of switches.
    Like stated above, move this up to be right under Fake Out.

  • U-turn is so Ambipom can switch out of a situation it can't handle and lets in a teammate that can handle the threat better than Ambipom can.

Set Details
========
  • Max Speed and a Jolly nature ensures that Ambipom outspeeds speedy threats like Dodrio, Heliolisk , Delphox, and speed ties with Sneasel.
    Use a more relevant example the Dodrio.

  • Max Attack and Life Orb boosts the power of Ambipom's moves so it can hit as hard as possible.
  • The remaining EVS should go into Defense to take priority hits a little bit better and because Ambipom's HP is a good Life Orb number.
  • Technician is the preferred ability to give a boost to Ambipom's Fake Out.
  • Skill Link can be used to get Tail Slap to hit all 5 times but it would only be used for Tail Slap and Ambipom is generally outclassed by Cinccino as a Skill Link user thanks to Cinccino's better movepool.
    Take this out.

Usage Tips
========
  • Ambipom is a full-on offensive Pokémon that checks frail threats that lack Protect with its Fake Out.
  • Then, it dishes out damage from Tail Slap or Return.
    Remove Tail Slap. Mention its good speed can allow it to clean with return once its normal checks are gone.

  • Be cautious, because a predicted Fake Out can lead to a switch to a Pokémon that can resist Fake Out.
  • However, Fake Out is generally a safe play to make.
  • Do not switch in Ambipom on any attack because it needs to be as healthy as possible to revenge-kill weakened foes with either Fake Out or its other moves.
  • If you must switch in, then a partner with a slow U-turn or Volt Switch is generally preferred.

Team Options
========

  • Ambipom forces switches often, so Pokémon that can lay entry hazards on the field are generally appreciated.
  • Pokémon like Garbodor, Accelgor, and Qwilfish are notable partners since they resist Fighting-type moves and can proceed to lay down Spikes and/or Toxic Spikes.
  • Ambipom seriously struggles with physically defensive Pokémon so wallbreakers like Guzzlord, Calm Mind Firium-Z Delphox, and Clawitzer are much appreciated.
  • Status absorbers and clerics such as Altaria, Refresh Blastoise, and Mega Audino are also needed to absorb burns and paralysis.
    Clerics aren't really needed with it, its overkill to have it in here so just remove it.

  • Blastoise and Altaria are also notable for removing entry hazards on Ambipom's side of the field with Rapid Spin and Defog, improving Ambipom's longevity.
    List more relevant hazard removal then Altaria

  • A slow user of U-turn or Volt Switch like Golbat or Vikavolt can safely bring Ambipom in on a threat it can handle.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Ambipom has an large movepool, but choosing one of these moves is generally situational: Low Kick hits Gigalith, Fire Punch hits Ferroseed and Silvally-Steel, Seed Bomb can hit Rhydon and Diancie, and Ice Punch covers Druddigon and Altaria, but replacing any of these moves from the standard set leaves Ambipom susceptible to more threats.
    Remove Fire and Ice Punch from OO.

  • Fake Out + Last Resort with Normalium-Z is an option for potentially massive damage, but the mono-Normal coverage leaves it wide open to being walled by the vast amount of Rock, Steel, and Ghost-types in NU and there are much better options for a Z-Crystal than Ambipom.
    Remove this from OO as well, its a worse CB Komala.

  • Silk Scarf can be used to boost Fake Out's power with the nice effect of no recoil, but the lack of power in its other moves is noticeable.
  • Choice Band can boost Ambipom's power to all its moves but being locked into any of Ambipom's moves in inadvisable, especially Fake Out.
    Remove CB as well.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Rock-type Pokémon**: Ambipom cannot dent Pokémon such as Gigalith and Diancie with its standard set. They can easily set up Stealth Rocks on Ambipom or retaliate with their powerful STAB moves.

**Steel-type Pokémon**: Ambipom also has trouble with all of the Steel-type Pokémon in the metagame. Steelix stomachs any hit from Ambipom and can OHKO it with Gyro Ball, Silvally-Steel can take a hit from any of its STABS, doesn't fear Knock Off, and can pivot out with Parting Shot, lowering Ambipom's attack in the process. Klinkang sets up in its face with Shift Gear since Ambipom cannot touch it with its standard moves.

**Fighting-type Pokemon**: Not only is it weak to Fighting-type moves, but just about every Fighting-type in NU carries a Choice Scarf to KO Ambipom with their STAB moves or priority like Mach Punch, Bullet Punch, or Fake Out.
Scarf fighting types are hardly relevant in NU, with Passimiain and SOMETIMES medicham being the only ones.

**Physically Bulky Pokemon**: Since Ambipom does not have good fire power, it is susceptible to being walled by just about every physically-defensive wall in NU. What's worse is that most of them like Steelix, Gigalith, Diancie, Druddigon, and defensive Incineroar all can retaliate with some massive damage. Pokémon like Ferrosseed, defensive Druddigon, and most Rocky Helmet users like Garbodor can take little from Ambipom's attacks and can even damage Ambipom through Iron Barbs or Rough Skin, especially if Ambipom opts to go with Tail Slap.
Okay so this is a theme in the entire thing that's just not exactly correct. Its easy to switch into due to its lack of coverage, sure. But its still a 100 base attack mon throwing out Returns. If that's not resisted then its doing a lot of damage. Even stuff like Vaporeon is taking 40%~ from Return. This entire section offers nothing that's not stated in other spots.

**Faster Threats**: Very few Pokémon in NU outspeed Ambipom naturally, they do need to be wary about switching into Ambipom's Fake Out. Sceptile, Whimsicott, Accelgor, and most Choice Scarf users all outspeed Ambipom and can threaten it with their powerful STABs or super-effective Fighting-type moves. Setup sweepers like Vivillon and Scrafty force Ambipom out with either Sleep Powder, super-effective Fighting-type moves, or they outspeed Ambipom at +1. Minior is also notable in that it easily sets up in Ambipom's face and wrecks it with any of its STAB moves.
Minior is never relevant. Replace with Curse Steelix.

**Priority moves**: While Ambipom is fast it is wide open to priority moves such as Mach Punch, Bullet Punch, Sucker Punch, Aqua Jet, Accelrock, Triage Draining Kiss, and the rare Quick Attack from Zangoose, all doing a massive amount of damage to Ambipom thanks to its poor bulk. However Ambipom's Fake Out bypasses all priority even if it only works once, so use it carefully.
Just listening random moves isn't going to cut it. List mons that use relevant priority moves. Also Zangoose will ALWAYS run QA.

**Status**: Burns and paralysis ruin Ambipom's chance at anything by crippling its best stats, Attack and Speed. Toxic along with Life Orb recoil is also an issue for it, putting Ambipom on a timer and limiting its time on the field by sapping its health. Most bulky status inducers like Garbodor, Slowbro, and Steelix all can stomach a hit from Ambipom and fire back with either Toxic or fish for a burn with Scald.
Garbodor doesn't run Toxic. If it had a free turn to hit Ambipom it would just click Gunk Shot.

Okay, implement and tag me again and I'll look over.

[OVERVIEW]

  • Ambipom's claim to fame in NU is access to STAB Techncian Fake Out, Pursuit, and U-turn. tbh it's more the combination of Fake Out + Pursuit since it allows Ambi to punish switching really effectively.
  • It's this combination of traits that allow Ambipom to pressure most offensive teams with not only a relatively strong STAB priority move, but also punishes the opponent should they switch out as well as gaining momentum for Ambipom's team.
  • However, as a pivot, Pokémon such as Incineroar, Silvally-Steel, and Slowbro offer stronger defensive utility thanks to better defensive typing, their abilities, Will-o-Wisp, Parting Shot, and bulk.
  • Ambipom also has to compete against other all-out attackers such as Sneasel, Passimian, or Sceptile which all offer better STABS or much stronger firepower capable of punching holes in common defensive cores. Passimian is a revenge killer more than anything. I'd just refer to these as offensive Pokemon.
  • It may be fast but it has poor bulk, so it is forced to rely on dealing damage while taking none in return.
  • Ambipom also has mediocre firepower due to being reliant on neutral damage from its Normal STAB over supereffective coverage, so it struggles to do anything to the top defensive cores of NU.
  • Because of all of these factors, it is very difficult to justify putting Ambipom on a team.

Moves
========

  • Fake Out is Ambipom's only priority and niche, scoring free damage and a flinch on the foe thanks to STAB and Technician. But isn't Pursuit part of Ambi's niche? Would reword this to focus more on what Fake Out does as a move.
  • Fake Out forces a lot of switches, which is why it pairs so well with Pursuit.
  • Pursuit also gets a boost from Technician. You aren't really saying what Pursuit does here. I'd try to combine this point with the previous.
  • Return is the second STAB option with high and consistent damage output.
  • Knock Off is a perfectly viable option for removing the foe's item and punishing Ghost-types for switching in. This point should be after the one about Pursuit since that is what its slashed with.
  • U-turn is so Ambipom can switch out of a situation it can't handle and brings in a teammate that can handle the threat better than Ambipom can.

Set Details
========
  • Max Speed and a Jolly nature ensures that Ambipom outspeeds speedy threats such as Heliolisk, non-Choice Scarf Delphox, and non-Choice Scarf Houndoom, as well as speed-tie with Sneasel.
  • Max Attack and Life Orb boosts the power of Ambipom's moves so it can hit as hard as possible. It's worth mentioning that a Life Orb Return with Stealth Rocks is a guaranteed 2HKO on Assault Vest Slowbro.
  • The remaining EVS should go into Defense to take priority hits a little bit better and because Ambipom's HP is a good Life Orb number. This isn't really worth mentioning imo.
  • Technician is the preferred ability to give a boost to Ambipom's Fake Out and Pursuit.
  • Silk Scarf can be used instead of Life Orb to boost Fake Out and Return's power with the nice effect of no recoil. However, the lack of immediate power in its other moves is noticeable.

Usage Tips
========
  • Ambipom is a full-on offensive Pokémon that checks frail threats that lack Protect with its Fake Out.
  • Fake Out is generally a safe play to make on the first turn. Keep in mind that a predicted Fake Out can lead to a switch to a Pokémon that can resist Fake Out. Such as?
  • Thanks to Ambipom's good speed, it proceeds to dish out damage with Return once its normal checks are gone.
  • Since Ambipom forces so many switches because of Fake Out, you could also take advantage of a Technician boosted Pursuit to pressure the opponent even more. This is especially effective on pivot Slowbro, Hoopa, and Rotom. Hoopa and Rotom aren't affected by Fake Out. Replace these mentions with Pokemon such as Delphox and Vanilluxe.
  • Do not switch in Ambipom on any attack because it needs to be as healthy as possible to revenge-kill weakened foes with either Fake Out or its other moves.
  • If you must switch in, then a partner with a slow U-turn or Volt Switch is generally preferred.
  • Do not let Ambipom take any status condition. Burn halves its Attack power, paralysis cripples its speed, and Toxic depletes its HP, putting Ambipom on a timer.
should also talk about revenge killing faster threats with a Fake Out when they're weakened (Sneasel, Scarf Passimian, Sceptile are relevant)

Team Options
========

  • Ambipom forces switches often, so Pokémon that can lay entry hazards on the field like Steelix, Diancie, and Garbodor are generally appreciated.
  • Garbodor is notable since it resists Fighting-type moves and can proceed to lay down Spikes and/or Toxic Spikes. It also can remove Toxic Spikes for Ambipom.
  • Since Ambipom baits in Fighting-type Pokémon , partners that can deal super-effective damage to them such as Medicham, Comfey, Delphox, and Braviary are generally appreciated.
  • On the same note, Ghost-type partners like Hoopa, Rotom, and Decidueye can safely come in on Fighting-type moves.
  • Ambipom struggles to damage physically defensive Pokémon so wallbreakers like Vanilluxe, Sceptile, Diancie, and Choice Specs Comfey are much appreciated.
  • Pokémon that can handle the Rock-types in NU such as Blastoise, Sceptile, and Passimian make good teammates for Ambipom.
  • Fire types such as Incineroar, Houndoom, and Delphox make decent partners not only for absorbing burns from Will-o-Wisp, but they also beat the Steel-type Pokémon Ambipom cannot dent.
  • Pokémon like Blastoise, Cryogonal, Xatu, and Silvally-Steel are also notable for removing entry hazards on Ambipom's side of the field with Rapid Spin and Defog, improving Ambipom's longevity. In Xatu's case, it can bounce back entry hazards with its Magic Bounce ability.
  • A slow user of U-turn or Volt Switch like Incineroar, Decidueye, or Vikavolt can safely bring Ambipom in on a threat it can pressure. I don't think Decidueye is worth a mention with regards to U-Turn.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Ambipom has an a large movepool, but choosing any of these moves over the standart standard set is generally situational. For example, Low Kick hits Steelix and Seed Bomb can hit Rhydon and Diancie, but replacing any of these moves from the standard set alienates Ambipom from its true niche.
  • Using Skill Link in conjunction with Tail Slap seems appealing due to the fact that the move can break Substitutes. Using Skill Link takes away from Ambipom's niche in NU because Cinccino is a far better Skill Link Pokémon than Ambipom due to its ability to threaten Rhydon and Diancie with Bullet Seed.
might as well mention Fake Out + Last Resort as a bad meme option

Checks and Counters
===================

**Rock-type Pokémon**: Ambipom cannot dent Pokémon such as Diancie and Rhydon with its standard set. They can easily set up Stealth Rocks on Ambipom or retaliate with their powerful STAB moves.

**Steel-type Pokémon**: Ambipom also has trouble with all of the Steel-type Pokémon in the metagame. Steelix stomachs any hit from Ambipom and can OHKO it with Gyro Ball or proceed to set up with Curse and proceed to take it out with a boosted Heavy Slam. Silvally-Steel can take a hit from any of its STABS, doesn't fear Knock Off, and can pivot out with Parting Shot, lowering Ambipom's attack in the process. Klinkang sets up in its face with Shift Gear since Ambipom cannot touch it with its standard moves. Ferroseed is also notable since it can take a hit and Ambipom will hurt itself thanks to all of its moves making contact with Iron Barbs. curselix runs Gyro Ball > Heavy Slam fyi

**Fighting-type Pokemon**: Every Fighting-type in NU can KO Ambipom with their STAB moves due to Ambipom's weakness to Fighting-moves. Some Pokémon like Medicham and Hitminlee Hitmonlee carry priority like Mach Punch, Bullet Punch, or Fake Out to revenge kill it. Choice Scarf Passimian is also notable because it outspeeds Ambipom and proceeds to KO it. note how Medicham and Hitmonlee don't appreciate taking a Fake Out if they're at risk of it

**Ghost-type Pokemon**: Ghost-types such as Rotom, Decidueye, and Hoopa can come in safely on Ambipom because they are immune to its STAB and resist U-turn. Keep in mind they are vulnerable to Pursuit and Knock Off.

**Faster Threats**: Very few Pokémon in NU outspeed Ambipom naturally, but they do need to be wary about switching into Ambipom's Fake Out or Return. Sceptile, Whimsicott, Accelgor, and most Choice Scarf users all outspeed Ambipom and can threaten it with their powerful STABs or super-effective Fighting-type moves. Setup sweepers like Dragon Dance Scrafty and Shift Gear Klinklang force Ambipom out with powerful STABS and they outspeed Ambipom after one boost. consider replacing Accelgor mention with Aerodactyl

**Priority moves**: While Ambipom is fast it is wide open to priority moves such as Mach Punch from most Fighting types like Hitmonlee, Comfey's Triage Draining Kiss, Sneasel's Ice Shard, and even rival Ambipom's Fake Out all do a sizable amount of damage to Ambipom thanks to its poor bulk. However Ambipom's Fake Out bypasses all priority even if it only works once, so use it carefully. it really isn't worth mentioning rival Ambipom considering how bad it is and how unlikely you are to see it outside of low ladder, but this is more personal preference than anything

**Status**: Burns and paralysis ruin Ambipom's chance at anything by crippling its best stats, Attack and Speed. Toxic along with Life Orb recoil is also an issue for it, putting Ambipom on a timer and limiting its time on the field by sapping its health. Most bulky status inducers like Slowbro, and Steelix all can stomach a hit from Ambipom and fire back with either Toxic or fish for a burn with Scald.
A general note also is GP team wants to see Pokemon spelled without the fancy e, so make sure you have any weird e usages replaced.

Okay so, thanks to a lot of meta trends like less Delphox and more less pursuit trap targets for it, most Ambipom have switched off the Pursuit sets and moved its coverage slot there to Low Kick to net solid chip on Steelix and Rhydon. Make low kick the first move listed and add Pursuit as the slash. Remove knock off.

Add mentions of lowkicks useful chip against targets like Rhydon, Steelix, Klinklang, ect in usage tips, set details, and overview. Tag me when you've added in the needed info and I'll QC it.

  • However, Ambipom has to compete against other offensive Pokemon such as Sneasel, Passimian, or Decidueye, which all offer better STABS or much stronger firepower capable of punching holes in common defensive cores.
  • It is also outclassed as a pivot by Pokemon such as Incineroar, Silvally-Steel, and Slowbro, which offer stronger defensive utility thanks to better defensive typings, their abilities, Will-o-Wisp, Parting Shot, and bulk.
- You should be comparing fast Pokemon to compete with Ambipom's role; the likes of Delphox, Sceptile, or even Cinccino are better mentions than Decidueye.
- Similiarly, you should be pointing out offensive pivots instead of defensive ones like Silvally and Slowbro; Heliolisk, Whimsicott, Passimian, and Rotom usually outperform Ambipom when it comes to pivoting, either due to exerting greater offensive pressure or having better resistances to switch back into battle.
- Another point to make is how Ambipom's priority is not as specialized as the likes of Ice Shard, Sucker Punch, Aqua Jet, and Mach Punch, which are more effective at picking off specific problem Pokemon that teams would need to revenge kill, which makes Ambipom's niche much less worthwhile.

  • It may be fast but it cannot take a hit due to its poor bulk, so it's forced to deal damage while taking none in return.
  • Despite an appealing Attack stat, Ambipom has mediocre firepower due to being reliant on neutral damage from its Normal STAB over supereffective coverage, which means it is often walled by most of the top defensive cores in NU.
You could segway these two points together, pointing out how difficult the former point is due to the latter.

move 2: Low Kick / Pursuit
move 3: Return
move 4: U-Turn
item: Life Orb
ability: Technician
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Not exactly sure why Return isn't listed as the 2nd move option in both the main set and the Moves section; should probably be rearranged in terms of importance.

**Rock-type Pokemon**: Without Low Kick, Ambipom cannot dent Pokemon such as Diancie and Rhydon. They can easily set up Stealth Rocks on Ambipom or retaliate with their powerful STAB moves.
Ambipom struggles to touch these Pokemon even with Low Kick. Emphasize these two as hard counters, as well as their offensive variants' ability to set up Rock Polish on it. You can also bring up the likes of Aerodactyl and Weak Armor Omastar as offensive checks.

**Steel-type Pokemon**: Ambipom also has trouble with all of the Steel-type Pokemon in the metagame if it choosesto run Pursuit over Low Kick. Steelix stomachs any hit from Ambipom and can OHKO it with Gyro Ball or proceed to set up with Curse and proceed to take it out with a boosted Gyro Ball. Silvally-Steel can take a hit from any of its STABS and can pivot out with Parting Shot, lowering Ambipom's attack in the process. Klinkang sets up in its face with Shift Gear since Ambipom cannot touch it without Low Kick. Ferroseed is also notable since it can take a hit and Ambipom will hurt itself thanks to all of its moves making contact with Iron Barbs. It's also worth noting that Ambipom only 4HKO's Ferroseed with Low Kick.
Heavy Slam is far more common on Steelix than Gyro Ball, so rephrase. If Ambipom only 4HKOes Ferroseed with Low Kick, don't say that Ferroseed just "takes a hit"; in fact Leech Seed + Iron Barbs will make it so that Ambipom will pretty much never defeat a remotely healthy Ferroseed.

**Ghost-type Pokemon**: Ghost-types such as Rotom, Decidueye, and Dhelmise can come in safely on Ambipom because they are immune to its STAB and resist U-turn. This is especially an issue should you run Low Kick. Keep in mind they are vulnerable to Pursuit, especially if they are Choice-locked.
Palossand and Jellicent hardwall Ambipom as well.

**Faster Threats**: Very few Pokemon in NU outspeed Ambipom naturally, but they do need to be wary about switching into Ambipom's Fake Out or Return. Sceptile, Whimsicott, Aerodactyl, and most Choice Scarf users all outspeed Ambipom and can threaten it with their powerful STABs or super-effective Fighting-type moves. Setup sweepers like Dragon Dance Scrafty and Shift Gear Klinklang force Ambipom out with powerful STABS and they outspeed Ambipom after one boost.
Since Aerodactyl would be mentioned in the Rock-types section, you can omit it from here. Fyi, Dragon Dance Scrafty does not actually outspeed Ambipom after a boost, but Klinklang and Scrafty don't really fit into the 'Faster Threats' section since they require setup, but don't fret; I plan to move these two into a new section. In the meantime...

**Priority moves**: While Ambipom is fast it is wide open to priority moves such as Mach Punch from most Fighting types like Hitmonlee, Comfey's Triage Draining Kiss, and Sneasel's Ice Shard all do a sizable amount of damage to Ambipom thanks to its poor bulk. However Ambipom's Fake Out bypasses all priority even if it only works once, so use it carefully.
This could honestly just be merged into the 'Faster Threats' section, and emphasize Ambipom's heavy dislike of being hit first as the common ground. You could bring up some Sucker Punch users such as Decidueye and Houndoom or Aqua Jet from Samurott as well. Piloswine is another Ice Shard user as well, btw.

**Status**: Burns and paralysis ruin Ambipom's chance at doing anything by crippling its best stats, Attack and Speed.
Status ailments are generally not brought up in the C&C as its own section since it's too ubiquitous for many physical attackers ever; status is only brought up specifically within each section (ex: Jellicent's Scald/Will-O-Wisp in the bulky Ghosts section). Instead, rework this to "Physically Bulky Pokemon" and list all candidates as well as how they deal with Ambipom. Ex: Garbodor's Rocky Helmet and Vileplume's Effect Spore punish contact and they both deal hefty damage in return, Slowbro and Vaporeon can Scald burn, Torterra and Quagsire can trade blows and heal off the damage, Druddigon can Glare, etc. This is where you also list the bulky setup sweepers, such as the aforementioned Scrafty and Klinklang.

So... Ambipom just got placed in the D-rank on the Viability Ratings. Does this mean that this thread is dead because I don't want to lose all the work I put into this... :psycry:

Not really sure how to feel about the Arcanine comparison in the Overview, as it may confuse newer users more than anything, but I'll let the last QC member deal with it.
In Usage Tips, mention how hazards are very dangerous for Ambipom's longevity and how you should get rid of them as soon as possible if you want Ambipom to come in a decent amount.
  • Ambipom is also vulnerable to all entry hazards, status conditions, and even the recoil of its own Life Orb, making it easy to wear down.
Emphasize on why -- it's very frail and it has absolutely no defensive utility.

Pursuit punishes the opponent should they switch out on Ambipom. Pursuit also gets a boost from Technician.
Name the relevant Pokemon that Ambipom would use Pursuit against.

Ambipom often baits in Fighting-type Pokemon, so partners that can deal super-effective damage to them such as Medicham, Comfey, Delphox, and Braviary are generally appreciated.
Medicham seems somewhat odd here, as it's pretty frail and doesn't really switch into Fighting-type Pokemon as easily. I would rather mention Slowbro.

Ambipom has a large movepool, but choosing any of these moves over the standard set is generally situational. For example, Seed Bomb can hit Rhydon, Slowbro, and Diancie and Fire Punch hurts Ferroseed, but replacing any of these moves from the standard set allows more Pokemon to wall Ambipom.
Fire Punch sounds absolutely terrible and Ferroseed is not common enough to be mentioned so just keep the Seed Bomb mention, as there's really no much reason to ever use FP.

Weak Arm or Omastar also can survive a hit from Low Kick and proceed to boost its Speed with the Weak Armor Boost or Shell Smash in its face.
Not really sure why Omastar is getting a mention here, it's not relevant enough -- if you want to bring up an offensive one, I'd probably mention Aerodactyl but both are alright.

However, neither Medicham or Hitmonlee want to take a Fake Out if they are weakened.
I wouldn't bring up Hitmonlee at all, as it's really unviable. Keep it to Medicham, or find something else to replace Hitmonlee with.

[OVERVIEW]

Much like Minior or Hitmontop, Ambipom in USUM NU (just say Ambipom is the ...)is the perfect example of a Pokemon that looks good but players find it can barely pull its weight on a team. The main reason why Ambipom seems appealing is because it has access to Fake Out boosted by STAB and the ability Technician, which allows it to pressure most offensive teams with a relatively strong STAB priority move. It is also one of the only Normal-types in NU with access to both Low Kick and Pursuit, allowing it to either get important damage on rival Steel or Rock-type Pokemon like Steelix or Rhydon, or it can provide further offensive pressure on more offensive teams. Ambipom also has U-turn with a great base 115 Speed and decent base 100 Attack, allowing it to act as an offensive pivot. However, even though STAB Technician Fake Out is Ambipom's sole niche in NU, STAB priority is much better on Pokemon such as Sneasel, Comfey, or Houndoom because not only do their priority moves provide stronger offensive coverage, but they can be used more than once after they enter the battle. Fake Out is also incredibly predictable it's more than Fake Out is easily negated, making Ambipom's niche significantly less impressive, meaning the opponent more often than not will switch out to a Pokemon that can resist a Fake Out, such as Steelix, Rhydon, or Decidueye, losing offensive momentum for Ambipom's team. Ambipom also has to compete against other offensive Pokemon such as Sceptile, Delphox, and even Cinccino which all offer better STABS or much stronger firepower capable of punching holes in common defensive cores. It is also outclassed as an offensive pivot by Pokemon such as Heliolisk, Passimian, Rotom, and Whimsicott, which all offer better defensive resistances to switch back into battle or provide stronger offensive pressure. While Ambipom may be fast and decently strong on paper, in practice it cannot take a hit thanks to its poor bulk and it has mediocre firepower due to being reliant on its Normal STAB for damage versus super-effective coverage, which makes it difficult for Ambipom to even dent the top defensive cores in NU. To add to its already poor bulk, Ambipom is also vulnerable to all entry hazards, status conditions, and even the recoil of its own Life Orb, making it very easy to wear down. Choosing Low Kick or Pursuit is also difficult since Ambipom does not have room for both in the same moveset, meaning choosing one sacrifices coverage for other threats your team might need to cover. All of these downfalls make Ambipom a very poor choice to put on a team in the current NU environment.

Moves
========

Fake Out is Ambipom's only priority, scoring free damage and a flinch on the foe. It also is relatively strong thanks to STAB and a Technician boost, making it an effective tool to check weakened opponents. Fake Out forces a lot of switches, which is why it pairs well with Pursuit. Return is the second STAB option with high and consistent damage output. Low Kick is the preferred second move, as it provides important chip damage to Pokemon like Steelix Rhydon, and Klinklang. Pursuit punishes the opponent should they switch out on Ambipom, which also gets a Technician boost. Use Pursuit either when you predict that the opponent will switch out expecting a Fake Out or if the opponent is a choice-locked Ghost-type Pokemon such as Rotom or Dhelmise. this previous line belongs in usage tips U-turn is so Ambipom can switch out of a situation it can't handle and allows a teammate to deal with said situation better.

Set Details
========

Max Speed and a Jolly nature ensures that Ambipom outspeeds speedy threats such as Heliolisk, non-Choice Scarf Delphox, and non-Choice Scarf Houndoom, as well as speed-tie with Sneasel. Max Attack and Life Orb boosts the power of Ambipom's moves so it can hit as hard as possible. It's worth mentioning that a Life Orb Return with Stealth Rocks is a guaranteed 2HKO on Assault Vest Slowbro. this previous line belongs in the moves section Technician is the preferred ability to give a boost to Ambipom's Fake Out.

Usage Tips
========

Ambipom is a full-on offensive Pokemon that checks frail threats with Fake Out by threatening heavy damage. Fake Out is generally a safe play to make on the first turn. Keep in mind that a predicted Fake Out can lead to a switch to a Pokemon that can resist the move such as Steelix, Diancie, and Rotom. Fake Out can also be used mid to late game to check and revenge weakened threats. Return should be used to get good, consistent damage on the opponent's team once its checks and counters are gone. Low Kick should be used to get sizable damage to Pokemon like Steelix and Rhydon. With hazards up, Ambipom can outspeed these Pokemon and has a chance to revenge-kill Pokemon like Steelix, Silvally-steel, and Rhydon. Since Ambipom forces so many switches because of Fake Out, you could also take advantage of a Technician boosted Pursuit to pressure the opponent even more. This is especially effective on Pokemon like pivot Slowbro, Delphox, and Vanilluxe. Pursuit can also be used to punish Choice-locked Ghost-type Pokemon such as Rotom and Dhelmise. Do not switch in Ambipom on any attack because it needs to be as healthy as possible to revenge-kill weakened foes with either Fake Out or its other moves. Do not let Ambipom take any status condition. Burn halves its Attack power, paralysis cripples its speed, sleep makes it a sitting duck, and Toxic depletes its HP, putting Ambipom on a timer. If you must switch in Ambipom, then a parter with a slow U-turn or Volt Switch is highly recommended. Also, make sure that all entry hazards are cleared since they cut Ambipom's longevity. I guess you could also mention getting in Ambipom on a double switch, since that is another way of safely getting it in.

Team Options
========

Ambipom forces switches often, so Pokemon that can lay entry hazards on the field like Steelix, Diancie, and Garbodor are generally appreciated. Garbodor is notable since it resists Fighting-type moves and can proceed to lay down Spikes and/or Toxic Spikes. It also can remove Toxic Spikes for Ambipom. Ambipom often baits in Fighting-type Pokemon, so partners that can deal super-effective damage to them such as Slowbro, Comfey, Delphox, and Braviary are generally appreciated. On the same note, Ghost-type partners like Rotom, Pallosand, and Decidueye can safely come in on Fighting-type moves. Ambipom struggles to damage physically defensive Pokemon so wallbreakers like Vanilluxe, Sceptile, Diancie, and Choice Specs Comfey are much appreciated. Pokemon that can handle the Rock-types in NU such as Blastoise, Sceptile, and Passimian make good teammates for Ambipom. Fire types such as Incineroar, Houndoom, and Delphox make decent partners not only for absorbing burns from Will-o-Wisp, but they also beat the Steel-type Pokemon Ambipom cannot dent. Pokemon like Blastoise, Cryogonal, Xatu, and Silvally-Steel are also notable for removing entry hazards on Ambipom's side of the field with Rapid Spin and Defog, improving Ambipom's longevity.

=============

Ambipom has a large movepool, but choosing any of these moves over the standard set is generally situational. For example, Seed Bomb can hit Rhydon, Slowbro, and Diancie, but replacing any of these moves from the standard set allows more Pokemon to wall Ambipom. Silk Scarf can be used instead of Life Orb to boost Fake Out and Return's power with the nice effect of no recoil. However, the lack of immediate power in its other moves is noticeable if it's noticeable, then are there any 2HKOes or OHKOes you miss out on with them?. Knock Off can be used to remove the opponents item and allows it to not be walled by Ghost-types. Using Skill Link in conjunction with Tail Slap seems appealing due to the fact that the move can break Substitutes. Using Skill Link however takes away from Ambipom's niche in NU because Cinccino is a far better Skill Link user than Ambipom due to its ability to threaten Rhydon and Diancie with Bullet Seed. Using a set with only Fake Out and Last Resort seems like a good combination on paper, but in practice it is hard walled by all of the Rock, Steel, and Ghost-type Pokemon in NU. basically requires too much support to function as well

Checks and Counters
===================

**Rock-type and Steel-type Pokemon**: Even with Low Kick, Ambipom has difficulty beating Rock and Steel-type Pokemon. Diancie takes next to nothing from Low Kick and can retaliate by setting up Stealth Rocks or Calm Mind. Rhydon also is a hard counter, taking the hit and setting up Stealth Rocks or boosting with Swords Dance and Rock Polish Rock Polish is not common enough to warrant mention imo. Aerodactyl is also an offensive check, being much faster than Ambipom and can fire back hard with powerful offensive moves. Steelix stomachs any hit from Ambipom and can set up with Curse and proceed to take it out with a boosted Heavy Slam. Silvally-Steel can take a hit from any of its STABS and can pivot out with Parting Shot, lowering Ambipom's attack in the process. Klinklang sets up in its face with Shift Gear since Ambipom cannot touch it without Low Kick. Ferroseed is also notable since it is only 4HKO'd by Low Kick and can proceed to wear it down with Leech Seed and Iron Barbs damage.

**Fighting-type Pokemon**: Every Fighting-type in NU can KO Ambipom with their STAB moves due to Ambipom's weakness to Fighting-moves.

**Ghost-type Pokemon**: Ghost-types such as Palossand, Rotom, Decidueye, Dhelmise, and Jellicent replace Jellicent mention with Mismagius. Mismagius and Decidueye can both even threaten to set up against Ambipom can come in safely on Ambipom because they are immune to its STAB and resist U-turn. This is especially an issue should Ambipom run Low Kick. Keep in mind they are vulnerable to Pursuit, especially if they are Choice-locked.

**Faster Pokemon**: Very few Pokemon in NU outspeed Ambipom naturally, but they do need to be wary about switching into Ambipom's Fake Out or Return. Sceptile, Whimsicott, and most Choice Scarf users all outspeed Ambipom and can threaten it with their powerful STABs or super-effective Fighting-type moves. Ambipom may be fast, but it is susceptible to being revenge-killed by common priority users such as Decidueye's and Houndoom's Sucker Punch, Samurott's Aqua Jet, Sneasel's and Piloswine's Ice Shard, Triage Comfey's Draining Kiss, Hitmonlee's Mach Punch, and Medicham's or Hariyama's Bullet Punch.

**Physically Bulky Pokemon**. Despite its decent Attack stat, Ambipom has trouble with physically defensive Pokémon because they all can stomach a hit and retaliate with crippling status or do hefty damage to Ambipom. Garbodor's Rocky Helmet and Vileplume's Effect Spore punish contact moves and both can dish out sizable damage to Ambipom in return. Slowbro and Vaporeon can take a hit from Ambipom and can burn it with Scald. Druddigon can hurt Ambipom with Rough Skin or Rocky Helmet and can cripple it with Glare. Pokémon like Torterra and Quagsire can also shrug off a hit from Ambipom and can recover thier HP. Bulky set up sweepers such as Scrafty and Klinklang can stomach any attack from Ambipom and can proceed to set up with Bulk Up, Dragon Dance, or Shift Gear.

(Apologies for lack of justification, but I just find the preceding sentence reads weirdly. Would suggest: "U-turn allows Ambipom to switch out of situations it can't handle, allowing a teammate to come in and deal with it in its place.")

Set Details

Max Speed and a Jolly nature ensures that Ambipom outspeeds speedy fast ("outspeeds" followed by "speedy" reads strangely. It might be better to omit the word altogether, though, rather than use my replacement.) threats such as Heliolisk, non-Choice Scarf Delphox, and non-Choice Scarf Houndoom, as well as speed-tie with Sneasel. Max Attack and Life Orb boosts the power of Ambipom's moves so it can hit as hard as possible.

Usage Tips
========

Ambipom is a full-on offensive Pokemon that checks frail threats with Fake Out. Fake Out is generally a safe play to make on the first turn. Keep in mind that a predicted Fake Out can lead to a switch to a Pokemon that can resist the move such as Steelix, Diancie, and Rotom. With hazards up, Ambipom can outspeed these Pokemon and has a chance to revenge-(remove hyphen)kill Pokemon like Steelix, Silvally-Steel (capitalized "Steel"), and Rhydon. Since Ambipom forces so many switches because of Fake Out, you could also take advantage of a Technician boosted Pursuit to pressure the opponent even more (I might be misunderstanding the intention, but Pursuit does NOT get the Technician boost on a switching foe). This is especially effective on Pokemon like pivot Slowbro, Delphox, and Vanilluxe. Pursuit is also effective if the opponent is a Choice-locked (capitalized "choice") Ghost-type Pokemon such as Rotom or Dhelmise. Do not switch in Ambipom on any attack because it needs to be as healthy as possible to revenge-(remove hyphen)kill weakened foes with either Fake Out or its other moves (redundant). Do not let Ambipom take any status condition. Burn halves its Attack power, paralysis cripples its speed, sleep makes it a sitting duck, and Toxic depletes its HP, putting Ambipom on a timer. If you must switch in Ambipom, then a partner (sp.) with a slow U-turn or Volt Switch is highly recommended. Also, try to make sure that all entry hazards are cleared, (AC) since they cut Ambipom's longevity. Ambipom can also safely come in on a predicted (Pardon me if I'm wrong, but I have always been of the impression that "double switch" is usually preceded by "predicted") double switch.

Team Options
========

On the same note, Ghost-type partners like Rotom, Pallosand Palossand (sp.), and Decidueye can safely come in on Fighting-type moves. Ambipom struggles to damage physically defensive Pokemon, (AC) so wallbreakers like Vanilluxe, Sceptile, Diancie, and Choice Specs Comfey are much appreciated. Pokemon that can handle the Rock-types in NU such as Blastoise, Sceptile, and Passimian make good teammates for Ambipom. (The meaning can be inferred from the context, but it might be more clear to say: "Pokemon such as Blastoise, Sceptile, and Passimian, which can handle the Rock-types in NU, make good teammates for Ambipom", which avoids any ambiguity in the syntax.) Fire types such as Incineroar, Houndoom, and Delphox make decent partners, (AC) not only for absorbing burns from Will-O-Wisp (capitalized "o"), but they also to beat the Steel-type Pokemon Ambipom cannot dent. Pokemon like Blastoise, Cryogonal, Xatu, and Silvally-Steel are also notable for removing entry hazards on Ambipom's side of the field with Rapid Spin and Defog (redundant), improving Ambipom's longevity. In Xatu's case, it can bounce back entry hazards with its Magic Bounce ability. A slow user of U-turn, Parting Shot, or Volt Switch like Incineroar, Silvally-Steel, or Vikavolt can safely bring Ambipom in on a threat it can pressure.

However, the lack of immediate power in its other moves is noticeable. For example, Silk Scarf Ambipom's Return misses out on a 2HKO on Assault (sp.) Vest Slowbro (You mentioned "other" moves then proceeded to talk about Return here; would need to change example or wording). Knock Off can be used to remove the opponents item and allows it to not be walled by Ghost-types. Using Skill Link in conjunction with Tail Slap seems appealing, (AC) due to the fact that the move can break Substitutes. Using Skill Link, (AC) however, (AC) takes away from Ambipom's niche in NU, (AC) because Cinccino is a far better Skill Link user than Ambipom, (AC) due thanks to its ability to threaten Rhydon and Diancie with Bullet Seed. Using a set with only Fake Out and Last Resort seems like a good combination on paper, but in practice it is hard walled by all of the Rock-, Steel-, and Ghost-type Pokemon in NU and requires too much support to function properly.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Rock-type and Steel-type Pokemon**: Even with Low Kick, Ambipom has difficulty beating Rock- and Steel-type Pokemon. Diancie takes next to nothing from Low Kick and can retaliate by setting up Stealth Rocks or Calm Mind. Rhydon also is a hard counter, taking the hit and setting up Stealth Rocks, (AC) or boosting with Swords Dance. Aerodactyl is also an offensive check, being much faster than Ambipom and can fire back hard with powerful offensive moves. Steelix stomachs any hit from Ambipom, (AC) and can set up with Curse and proceed to take it out with a boosted Heavy Slam. Silvally-Steel can take a hit from any of its STABSs and can pivot out with Parting Shot, lowering Ambipom's Attack (capitalized "attack") in the process.

**Faster Pokemon**: Very few Pokemon in NU outspeed Ambipom naturally, but (Relatively sure but --> and, but I might be misreading.) they do need to be wary about switching into Ambipom's Fake Out or Return. Sceptile, Whimsicott, and most Choice Scarf users all outspeed Ambipom, (AC) and can threaten it with their powerful STABs or super-effective Fighting-type moves (Might want to mention specific examples of Pokemon that would use Fighting-type moves). Ambipom may be fast, but it is susceptible to being revenge-killed by common priority users such as Decidueye's and Houndoom's Sucker Punch, Samurott's Aqua Jet, Sneasel's and Piloswine's Ice Shard, Triage Comfey's Draining Kiss, and Medicham's or Hariyama's Bullet Punch.

**Physically Bulky Pokemon**. Despite its decent Attack stat, Ambipom has trouble with physically defensive Pokemon (removed the accent), (AC) because they all can stomach a hit and retaliate with crippling status, (AC) or do hefty damage to Ambipom. Garbodor's Rocky Helmet and Vileplume's Effect Spore punish contact moves, (AC) and both can dish out sizable damage to Ambipom in return. Slowbro and Vaporeon can take a hit from Ambipom and can (double use) burn it with Scald. Druddigon can hurt Ambipom with Rough Skin or Rocky Helmet, (AC) and can cripple it with Glare. Pokemon (removed the accent) like Torterra and Quagsire can also shrug off a hit from Ambipom and can (double use) recover thier their (sp.) HP. Bulky setup (set up --> setup) sweepers such as Scrafty and Klinklang can stomach any attack from Ambipom, (AC) and can (double use) proceed to set up with Bulk Up, Dragon Dance, or Shift Gear.

Very nice analysis. NU isn't my tier, but this was still a very fascinating read.

[OVERVIEW]

Ambipom is the perfect example of a Pokemon that looks good, (AC) but players find it can turns out to only barely pull its weight on a team. The main reason why Ambipom seems appealing is because it has access to Fake Out, (AC) boosted by STAB and the ability Technician, which allows it to pressure most offensive teams with a relatively strong STAB priority move. It is also one of the only Normal-types in NU with access to both Low Kick and Pursuit, allowing it to either get important damage on rival Steel- or and Rock-type Pokemon like Steelix or and Rhydon, or it can provide further offensive pressure on against more offensive teams. Ambipom also has U-turn with a great base 115 Speed and decent base 100 Attack, allowing it to act as an offensive pivot. However, even though STAB Technician Fake Out is Ambipom's sole niche in NU, STAB priority is much better on Pokemon such as Sneasel, Comfey, or Houndoom, (AC) because not only do their priority moves provide stronger offensive coverage, but they can be used more than once after they enter the battle. Fake Out is also predictable and easily negated, meaning the opponent more often than not will switch out to a Pokemon that can resist a Fake Out, such as Steelix, Rhydon, or Decidueye, losing offensive momentum for Ambipom's team, (AC) and making Ambipom's niche much less impressive. Ambipom also has to compete against other offensive Pokemon such as Sceptile, Delphox, and even Cinccino, (AC) which all offer better STABSs or much stronger firepower capable of punching to punch holes in common defensive cores. It is also outclassed as an offensive pivot by Pokemon such as Heliolisk, Passimian, Rotom, and Whimsicott, which all offer better defensive resistances to switch back into battle, (AC) or provide stronger offensive pressure. While Ambipom may be fast and decently strong on paper, in practice it cannot take a hit thanks to its poor bulk, (AC) and it has mediocre firepower due to being reliant on its Normal STAB for damage, (AC) versus rather than ("versus" made it sound ambiguous) super-(remove hyphen)effective coverage, which makes it difficult for Ambipom to even dent the top defensive cores in NU. All of these downfalls flaws (I might be misreading, but I don't think "downfall" conveys the meaning you intended here.) make Ambipom a very poor choice to put on a team in the current NU environment.

Moves
========

Fake Out is Ambipom's only priority move, scoring free damage and a flinch on the foe. It also is relatively strong thanks to STAB and a Technician boost, making it an effective tool to check weakened opponents. Fake Out forces a lot of switches, which is why it pairs well with Pursuit. Return is the second STAB option with for high and consistent damage output. It's worth mentioning that a Life Orb Return with Stealth Rocks is a guaranteed 2HKO on Assault Vest Slowbro. Technician is the preferred ability to give a boost to Ambipom's Fake Out.(Space)Low Kick is the preferred second move, as it provides important chip damage to Pokemon like Steelix, (AC) Rhydon, and Klinklang. Pursuit punishes the opponent should they switch out on Ambipom, and and also gets a Technician boost. .(Extra full-stop here) U-turn is so Ambipom can switch out of a situation it can't handle and allows a teammate to deal with said situation better. (Apologies for lack of justification, but I just find the preceding sentence reads weirdly. Would suggest: "U-turn allows Ambipom to switch out of situations it can't handle, allowing a teammate to come in and deal with it in its place.")

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

Fake Out can also be used mid to late game to check and revenge kill weakened threats. Return should be used to get good, consistent damage on the opponent's team once its checks and counters are gone. Low Kick should be used to get sizable damage to on Pokemon like Steelix and Rhydon.

========
