American Politics

Not really bro... for anyone familiar w/ left-tube and who still watches left-tube, the show is basically the same kind of content and arguments that you’ll hear if you watch Secular Talk, Humanist Report, Rational National, TMBS, Jimmy Dore etc. I don’t get anything from rising that I don’t also consume from left tube (and so many episodes feature left-tubers or leftist SME’s like Brianna Joy Grey, Richard Wolff, etc. anyway)
If you are a Jacobin reader/watcher or the type of person who follows Glenn Greenwald, than watching Rising is just stroking your world view.

If you’re a leftist who watches left tube, Krystal Ball isn’t converting you to the GOP (lol wtf) or instilling a hate for Democrats that you didn’t already have. After Bernie left, of course Saagar’s politics took more center because Krystal had no real skin in the game (like most Berners), but the Bernie left was pretty much the anchor of the show until Bernie lost, and while the audience has DNC haters of all stripes, the audience is obviously biased left reading through the comments.
She’s just stoking the same existing hate for liberals you’d go to Jimmy Dore or Chapo Trap House to get stoked anyway— using the same facts, making the same arguments; just professionally polished and often making those same left-tube arguments to the face of shallow, obviously corrupt DNC operatives/experts stupid enough to keep going on the show for some reason. The only difference between Rising episodes and a given left tube segment is that one of these I’d send to my Mom.

Also if you’re a leftist who watches the show, you’re not going to be convinced to Saagar’s POV— but you will see where the right may be pursuadable to collaborate on populist goals given certain conditions and framing.

If you actually think this, it means you are just not aware of how much hate the left has for the Democrats and liberal mainstream at large.
the only part of this post with any meaning is your admission that you consume utter fucking garbage from randos and hacks on Youtube. If you're going to dismiss either Ball or her show's history out of hand, and then start pitching pieces of shit like Dore, Grey, CTH or whatever, I'm not going to take you seriously. I follow academics and antifascists, not fucking Jacobin lmao. American "leftists" or Berniecrats or whatever really are just liberal versions of Rush Limbaugh listeners who think that listening to one-percenter Brooklynites interview random fringe dipshits makes them revolutionaries.

also, admitting that Krystal Ball uses the same talking points as Jimmy Dore really doesn't help your argument when Dore takes money from far-right orgs to propagandise on their behalf. Jimmy's pretty tight with Matt Heimbach's Syrian friends. :mehowth:

edit:
almost forgot to shout out to the time Bernie called Grey irresponsible for her behaviour leading up to the general election, and Grey sabotaged his chances for Labour Secretary in retaliation by spreading disinformation claiming Biden's a pedophile and rapist.

You were arguing that Rising is right wing.

Jimmy goes off the deep end for sure— but you follow a comedian for entertainment (and to get your rage on). But the arguments he makes are mostly sound and you can easily fact check him and his sources.

The rest of the folks I mentioned— well it just shows you haven’t watched them and don’t understand what type of content it is.

I never told you to use YouTube as single source of truth or to not look up facts; but left tube is not rush Limbaugh or infowars— you can verify pretty much all the facts, and sources often given.

Of course the narrative comes from ideology— but people have ideologies, and you don’t end up following left tube by having no exposure to mainstream or right wing narratives— you do have exposure and end up ultimately rejecting them. Mainstream content is unavoidable, and those who believe it generally do without exposing themselves to other arguments.

But how very Democrat to think only experts’/academics’ opinions can be verifiable.

I would submit that the easiest way to spot a need for greater suspicion of a source though, is how a source is influenced by power. Where does research or academia get its funding? Who pays the bills for a journal? How does the narrative being made shape the world for the most powerful?

Bernie was most believable because the things he proposed and argued for were in open opposition to the most powerful— and as a result, only regular people and unions would give him any money.
Biden’s words are shit because he abjectly serves the most powerful. Campaign finance is verifiable in this country, and even the part not kept in the dark is damnable for most politicians.

The folks I mentioned are independent media outlets without corporate boards and corporate funding, without Koch brother’s financing, making arguments that are objectively in opposition of the centers of power and wealth in society— Secular Talk is not going to be sponsored by big Pharma, or the weapons industry, or Wallstreet, or Silicon Valley, or billionaires of any kind, or the leadership apparatus of either party; because the arguments being made square all of them as the problem.
Left tubers have an ideology yes— but you clearly see that the ideology draws no support except popular support, and serves no interest but public interest...

and any of these folks could trade their following and expertise in for REAL money if they were willing to become the next smarter and better Dave Rubin. The real money is on the right because the right serves power. Left tubers only continue to do what they do while opposing those interests and always at risk of being censored, de-platformed, and de-legitimized by them.

When you watch independent media should you verify sources when you want to circle your wagons? Yes, duh. Same goes for mainstream.

But when expert opinion or authoritative opinion is making arguments that clearly benefit the interests of power, there’s a much bigger need to be suspect.

So like 12 hours ago or something, the US Supreme Court decision dismissed the Texas lawsuit, which means it's pretty much the end of the road for Trump. I don't see any way that he can become president without some kind of civil war, which wouldn't exactly look good for him. Any movement that tries to overturn the decision would probably fizzle out quickly, as Trump has been losing followers pretty damn quick. Even that the_donald website has been a disorganized mess since the decision.

In response to the decision, Allen West gave a statement...that considers what I believe to be secession. For those who don't want to click links, here's the Allen West statement in full, it's pretty short (and stupid);

Donald Trump seems to be wanting to fight on despite what's essentially an "up yours, fuck off, stop lying", but I'm not really sure what he wants? He's telling his followers to call legislators, but overall his Twitter has been kind of incoherent. He's put out two campaign ads, like this one, but he seems to just be recycling the points from the dismissed lawsuit?

The Electors vote today. Assuming we don't have a ridiculous ~2 dozen faithless Electors it means Biden will officially be declared president today. Considering the kind of people selected to be Electors are partisans like Hilary Clinton, it seems pretty unlikely that many will be switching their votes.

So tl;dr Biden's win will be official in a few hours.

It was never in doubt. I’ve maintained for years that Donald Trump was never going to be re-elected and once the votes were counted that was sealed. The constant entertaining by the media of the fantasy scenarios with which it is overturned is a grim indictment on our system. None of this should be getting air time at all.

Request to change brackets in title to [The TRUMPening].

It's not all in yet, but Trump is crushing his 2016 numbers in Florida. Maine is also trending his way, but it's so rural it could be a while. Portland is sitting on Biden w/ a 3000 vote advantage. It also seems like Rhode Island is legit going Trump. The map is creeping redder and redder as the rural votes get counted.

This was either going to be a media driven Covid disinfo election or an economy reopening election. If a state with a huge portion of the Covid vulnerable population is going bigger for Trump than in 2016, this election is already over but for the counting.

My only hope, probably unrealized, is Trump also wins the popular vote so Democrats can finally, finally reflect on the madness I said was overtaking them and would not stop a long four years ago. Trump is currently ahead, but California isn't counted yet and that will flip it entirely if its percentages look like New York.

People don't want woke, they don't want riots, and they don't want to stay in hiding until government says it's safe. American bullshit detection and can-do attitude is the GOAT!
This gets better every time I read it

Curfew kicks in at 6 eastern. There's a petty part of me excited to see blue lives matter people get tear gassed by police.

Edit: Yep, it's as satisfying as I thought it would be.

DC is a shitshow, and very glad to have moved even another mile or so away from the mall earlier this year. If they spread out from the capitol after the curfew is used to try to force them to disperse, maga folks might make it to my old neighborhood, but they certainly won’t make it to where I am now.

Let us dispell with the myth that Donald Trump does not know what he's doing. He knows exactly what he is doing.

But seriously, he does. Those tweets are just to save face. He knows his supporters won't stop, and even if we ignore Georgia, his administration had plenty of time to prepare for the unrest he knew would be caused when Biden was confirmed. I'm not even angry at Trump for this mess. I blame the Republican senate and house members for entertaining this election fraud bs and giving these brain disease victims a platform.
