Amoonguss carves a niche in the Anything Goes metagame by providing the most reliable switch-in to standard Dynamax Geomancy Xerneas, an offensive sweeper with almost no answers. Due to its overwhelming special bulk, Amoonguss can also defensively switch into other potent special attackers such as Primal Kyogre, Eternatus, and most Calm Mind Arceus formes. Clear Smog allows Amoonguss to remove the boosts of Geomancy Xerneas and Calm Mind users such as Arceus formes and Primal Kyogre as they attempt to overcome Amoonguss's substantial bulk. Grass Knot virtually 2HKOes Primal Kyogre, Arceus-Water, and Calm Mind or defensive variants of Arceus-Ground, allowing Amoonguss to act as a check for these Pokemon. Foul Play allows Amoonguss to do sufficient damage to Zacian-C and Mega Rayquaza, as well as to Mega Gengar and Ultra Necrozma switch-ins. Body Slam can potentially paralyze switch-ins such as Ferrothorn, Necrozma-DM, and Eternatus, which otherwise fear little from Amoonguss. It's quite spammable in general, since few Pokemon are immune to it, though Amoonguss should be wary of using this move against Mega Gengar teams. Sludge Bomb provides a stronger Poison-type STAB attack, with a chance of poisoning incoming threats like Ho-Oh and Primal Groudon. Maximum HP and Special Defense investment, paired with an Assault Vest, allows Amoonguss to reliably survive a +2 Max Flare from Xerneas and two Ice Beams from Primal Kyogre. Regenerator gives Amoonguss a way to retrieve health so it isn't unusable after removing Xerneas's boosts.

Amoonguss requires almost full health in order to reliably check Dynamaxed Geomancy Xerneas, so it is best to keep it reasonably healthy throughout the course of the game until Xerneas is switched in. Otherwise, relying on Regenerator to get Amoonguss back up to full health may require foddering other Pokemon after Xerneas sets up Geomancy. Tyranitar pairs with Amoonguss very well due to its ability to check Pokemon like Yveltal, Ho-Oh, Eternatus, Mewtwo, and Mega Gengar, all of which severely threaten Amoonguss. Amoonguss's physical bulk is also measly for the Anything Goes metagame, and hence it requires teammates that can deal with potent physical attackers; Zygarde-C can check Pokemon such as Necrozma-DM, Ho-Oh, Mega Rayquaza, and Primal Groudon, all of which severely pressure Amoonguss. Physically defense variants of Necrozma-DM aid Amoonguss by checking common attackers like Zacian-C and Earthquake Mega Rayquaza and thus makes for a good teammate. Ho-Oh helps Amoonguss by completing a solid Regenerator corethat can alone outlive many passive builds and stall out the PP of common special attackers like Eternatus. As Xerneas may attempt to fire off unboosted Dynamax attacks once Amoonguss has used Clear Smog to remove its boosts, Ho-Oh also helps mitigate any potential weakness teams may have to this. Teams with dedicated Dynamax sweepers may appreciate Amoonguss, as they would otherwise be required to Dynamax another of their own Pokemon in order to check Dynamax Geomancy Xerneas. Dragon Dance Necrozma-DM and Ultra Necrozma are examples of Pokemon that appreciate Amoonguss's ability to check Xerneas, as Necrozma-DM cannot efficiently check Xerneas without significant defensive investment.

Amoonguss carves a niche in the Anything Goes metagame by providing the most reliable switch-in to standard Dynamax Geomancy Xerneas, an offensive sweeper with almost no answers. Due to its overwhelming special bulk, Amoonguss can also defensively switch into many other potent special attackers such as Primal Kyogre, Eternatus cannot touch it and most Calm Mind Arceus formes. Clear Smog allows Amoonguss to remove the boosts of Geomancy Xerneas and Calm Mind users, as they attempt to overcome Amoonguss's substantial bulk. Body Slam can potentially paralyze switch-ins such as Ferrothorn, Necrozma-DM, and Eternatus, which otherwise fear little from Amoonguss. It's quite spammable in general since few Pokemon are immune to it, though Amoonguss should be wary of using this move against Mega Gengar teams. Sludge Bomb provides a stronger Poison-type STAB attack, with a chance of poisoning incoming threats like Ho-Oh and Primal Groudon. Grass Knot virtually 2HKOs Arceus-Rock, Primal Kyogre, Arceus-Water and Calm Mind or defensive variants of Arceus-Ground, allowing Amoonguss to act as a check for these Pokemon, while also dealing massive damage to Primal Kyogre and incoming Primal Groudon. Foul Play allows Amoonguss to do sufficient damage to Zacian-C and Mega Rayquaza and Mega Gengar / Ultra Necrozma switch-ins that may attempt to set up otherwise. Maximum HP and Special Defense investment, paired with an Assault Vest, allow Amoonguss to reliably survive a +2 Max Flare from Xerneas and two Ice Beams from Primal Kyogre. Regenerator gives Amoonguss a way to retrieve health, as so it isn't unusable after removing Xerneas's boosts.

Amoonguss is unable to check Xerneas if it opts to run a subpar attack in Psyshock. Amoonguss can however survive a +2 Max Mindstorm based off of Psyshock, due to its effect of targetting the alternate Defense stat being ignored. this is too niche to mention for a preview Amoonguss also requires almost full health in order to reliably check Dynamaxed Geomancy Xerneas, so it is best to keep it reasonably you only need 80% so its safe to let it fall to abt half and switch out healthy throughout the course of the game until Xerneas is switched in. Otherwise, relying on Regenerator to get Amoonguss back up to full health may require foddering other Pokemon post-Geomancy. ttar should absolutely be the first teammate mentioned, say it has amazing defensive synergy and checks yveltal, ho-oh, etern, m2, mgar for gus Amoonguss's physical bulk is also measly for the Anything Goes metagame, and hence it requires teammates that can deal with potent Physical attackers. Primal Groudon acts as a fantastic teammate for Amoonguss, as it helps deal with Zacian-C, Necrozma-DM and Ho-Oh, which all threaten Amoonguss immensely. Primal Groudon also provides a secondary answer to Kyogre, which Amoonguss can struggle with once weakened, and also can't hit super effectively if it chooses to use its Dynamax potential to overwhelm it. pdon isn't a great answer to any of those physical attackers due to its lack of recovery, esp not ndm Zygarde-C is another example of a good teammate, as it can check Pokemon such as Necrozma-DM, Ho-Oh, Mega Rayquaza and Primal Groudon; all of which severely pressure Amoonguss. mention physdef ndm here to help check zacian/non vc ray Ho-Oh helps Amoonguss by providing a solid Regenerator core, which can alone outlive many passive builds, and stall out the PP of common special attackers like Eternatus. Once Amoonguss has used Clear Smog to remove Xerneas's boosts, it may attempt to fire off unboosted Dynamax attacks. Ho-Oh also helps mitigate any potential weakness teams may have to this. Due to its overwhelming special bulk, Amoonguss can also defensively switch into other potent special attackers such as Primal Kyogre and most Calm Mind Arceus formes (its safe to mention Eternatus since Body Slam is slashed). Clear Smog allows Amoonguss to remove the boosts of Geomancy Xerneas and Calm Mind users such as Arceus formes and Primal Kyogre, as they attempt to overcome Amoonguss's substantial bulk. Body Slam can potentially paralyze switch-ins such as Ferrothorn, Necrozma-DM, and Eternatus, which otherwise fear little from Amoonguss. Sludge Bomb provides a stronger Poison-type STAB attack, with a chance of poisoning incoming threats like Ho-Oh and Primal Groudon. Grass Knot deals good damage to virtually 2HKOs (it does not 2HKO any of these) Primal Kyogre, Arceus-Water and Calm Mind or defensive variants of Arceus-Ground, allowing Amoonguss to act as a check for these Pokemon. Foul Play allows Amoonguss to do sufficient damage to Zacian-C and Mega Rayquaza and Mega Gengar / Ultra Necrozma switch-ins that may attempt to set up otherwise (this is a weird notion to make, as Amoonguss will only be attempting to hit these on the switch and definitely won't be staying in on them; Foul Play also discourages DD Zygarde-C from setting up on it).

Mention the archetypes Amoonguss fits best in
