Hello! If you were in the Smogon VGC Discord last night, you may have seen me discuss a potential circuit. Yes indeed, with our tournament schedule so far this year + the tournaments going forward, we believe that we have enough tournaments to create a full circuit for the rest of this year. Let's break it down in terms of what tournaments are eligible and what tournaments we'll have going forward!
The Circuit
The Circuit itself will consist of 5 events: The Gen 7 Throwback tour, The Smogon VGC Major, Series 10 No Johns Kickoff, The Fall Scramble, and the Smogon VGC Cartridge Tournament.
The first three events have already been completed, however, signups for the Fall Scramble are currently open and the cartridge tournament has yet to commence.
Qualifying
The top 16 in circuit points will qualify for the invitational, which will be held from late November to mid December. Any players who have the same amount of points as the 16th seed going into playoffs will play a tiebreaker to qualify.
The points breakdown from our events is as follows:
1st - 75
2nd - 50
3-4 - 35
5-8 - 25
9-16 - 20
17-32 - 15
33-64 - 10
Do note the kicker value: n/4. Essentially in a 64 person bracket, only the top 16 will be given circuit points (CP).
Multipliers: The Smogon VGC Major will credit CP at a 3x base points multiplier, while the Fall Scramble and Cartridge Tournament will credit CP at a 2x modifier.
The winner of our inaugural circuit will be awarded a prize banner on their profile, as well as a custom role in the Smogon VGC Discord that displays them above regular users. Good luck!
