Anonymous Threatens Facebook

Apparently Anonymous is at it again. This time Facebook is in its sights. I don't really know how to feel about this. On one hand I am rather pissed at them for even threatening to take down my main form of social networking. First Sony and now Facebook. It seems as though they are causing more harm to the people that they aim to "protect". On the other hand though, it would be interesting to see what exactly Facebook has been up to. Hopefully it is just a hoax. One thing is undeniable though; there has been a sudden rise in the hacking community. These group's actions, such as team poison's intervention in England, seem to be rather formidable and are becoming more and more frequent.

Why would they make a threat like that so early on though? Facebook has months to prepare for something like that, not to mention that it is one of the largest websites around. I call a bluff...

Hide yo kids, hide yo wife...

...Though honestly that is odd that he / she would call out before doing it. *Shrugs*. Oh well.

I wouldn't worry too much. As a rule of thumb, groups of hackers that make a lot of noise aren't very good hackers. It's the ones that go unnoticed for years gathering government and corporation secrets that are dangerous.

Most of what Anonymous has done has been DoS attacks and stealing emails. If anything happens at all, it'll probably be just downtime or some dirt on Facebook developers being released.

This all sounds completely ridiculous, but in all honesty I really do hope that they fuck up facebook (or at least long enough for people to realise how much balls it sucks). The only reason I stick around on there is because all my friends do too. The more people that move to google+ the better.

I'm sorry, we're talking about the same group of people who hacked the internet security company, the police department's files and e-mails, and a whole bunch of other shit. And now, since they're up against Facebook, people suddenly dismiss them as "a bunch of kids who have no idea."

Facebook probably has a lot better defenses than the internet websites that I mentioned previously, but that still doesn't discredit them as a capable group. I can't believe people aren't seeing them as a threat still. If they're cocky enough to post a threat against Facebook 3 months ahead of time, I can't imagine that they don't have some sort of plan against them.

And it's not going to be "just some e-mails" but probably a lot of peoples' contact information. If they do somehow get access to your shit, then your entire privacy is completely fucked over.

Call me paranoid, but I don't see these people as a "group of script kiddies." They're dangerous enough to have gone up against government websites (Syria comes to mind recently) and a bunch of other companies and haven't faced ONE single repercussion for their actions. People who've dismissed them as a threat thus far have gotten their shit thrown back at their face (See: HBGary).

anon said that the group facebook was merely a splinter. I can't be assed to find the youtube right now, since I'm on my phone, but that isn't a means to not be concerned. they've released several 'classified' documents lately, so I wouldn't be surprised if this splinter couldn't do something.

i would not worry although ma faceboook is always making stupid shit lately.................seems suspicious enough

<3 Anonymous <3

Down with Facebook, and I have no doubt that they could take down Facebook, after seeing how incredibly easy Sony was to hack

and i was wondering why facebook was acting up on me recently.

i'm neutral towards this. on one side, it's the only way to communicate with my family in USA, but on the other side, it's fucking addictive. no i don't play farmville. i could chat with friends and family for hours without feeling them pass by.

all in all, to hell with facebook, take it down!

Am I the only who thought the computerized voice in combination of the words chosen sounded epic like some kind of villain? haha. "We are anonymous we are legion; we do not forgive, we do not forget. Expect us".

I'm not sure I believe this. Even though my Facebook has been acting funky lately, I don't want to jump to conclusions.

The hacker group Anonymous vows to take down Facebook November 5th, 2011 in Operation Facebook.
No doubt, guys seem capable, although I doubt they'll be able to do serious or lasting damage to Facebook, especially now that they've broadcasted the time of their "attack". But, what do I know? Hell, I don't even think I care all that much lol

most likely the intent, it's a threat after all

shining latios: the hive. jk, anonymous is the name for a collective of people (4chan-associated) who... do shit when mobilised by various other people. or, rather, it's the name these people commit their acts under. the people using the name anonymous for the attacks on the government websites of countries like syria and on scientology aren't necessarily the same as those who, for example, did the youtube porn, which is funny because the media makes them out to be some organised club

Who is Anonymous?
This sentence, when taken completely out of context of this whole story, is genius.

As someone said above, at least Zuckerberg should be scared. Anyone else who is scared of this should move all their personal stuff to google+ or back to myspace from whence it came, since no massive group will organize an attack on myspace. I'm assuming that making your profile "private" or "friends only" and NOT ADDING STRANGERS would be the first precaution you should take if you plan to keep your stuff up, but I wouldn't doubt they'd get past that.
