Secret Boss Mod

Arbok is a fantastic offensive check to Hitmonchan and Grass-types that sports decent Speed, Attack, and movepool, all of which together can make it hard to deal with. Arbok fits best on Choice Band spam teams that rely on overwhelming the opponent with strong and fast physical attackers, but Arbok also fits well on balance teams through spreading paralysis with Glare and making the most of Intimidate. The only true downside to Arbok is that every team is naturally prepared for it, as many Pokemon in NU are able to withstand its STAB Sludge Bomb and coverage moves with ease.

name: Choice Band
move 1: Sludge Bomb
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Rock Slide
move 4: Double-Edge / Hidden Power Ghost
item: Choice Band
ability: Intimidate
nature: Jolly
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

- Arbok has Earthquake and Rock Slide over its main competition Golbat and has great coverage between them and its STAB
- Last slot filler but Double-Edge is a great safety move
- Great offensive check to Hitmonchan that can be hard for opponent to switch into

- Jolly needed to outspeed Hitmonchan
- Giga Drain an option for last slot to hit Relicanth
- Needs teammates to switch into Sableye and Mawile and other Pokemon looking to take advantage of Sludge Bomb
- Also needs teammates for Flying-types and Chimecho for when Arbok gets locked into Earthquake
- Other CBers that enjoy Arbok's ability to check Hitmonchan are recommended, such as Vigoroth or Kecleon

name: Glare Support
move 1: Glare
move 2: Sludge Bomb
move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Screech / Haze
item: Leftovers
ability: Intimidate
nature: Adamant
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

- More conservative take on Arbok to spread paralysis and make use of its typing and access to Intimidate
- Sludge Bomb + Earthquake retains decent coverage
- Screech is a great phazing move and can make it even harder for the opponent to respond to Arbok. Mawile and Chimecho become both easily 2HKOed, etc.
- Haze can prevent the opponent from using Arbok as setup bait and can let Arbok really ruin the day of Calm Mind Chimecho and Sableye

- Adamant allows Arbok to retain some power and guarantee a OHKO on Bellossom with Sludge Bomb. Jolly is definitely usable to outspeed Hitmonchan
- Refresh is usable to let Arbok absorb status, although Arbok is already immune to the most popular choice, Toxic
- Arbok fits well on teams with slower sweepers that appreciate paralysis being spread on the opponent's team
- Partners well with those that need a solid offensive check to Hitmonchan like Relicanth, Pupitar, and Mawile

[Other Options]
- Physically defensive set possible
- Thief, Torment, Pursuit
- ProTox

[Checks and Counters]
- Golbat
- Sableye
- Mawile and Metang
- Relicanth
- Haunter
- Chimecho
- Whiscash and Piloswine

For an entirely defensive approach, Arbok could run Rest with Shed Skin and 252 HP / 252 Def+. In spite of losing Intimidate, even Choice Band Hitmonchan struggles to cause meaningful damage with anything that isn't Earthquake or Double-Edge:

252+ Atk Choice Band Hitmonchan Sky Uppercut vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Arbok: 89-105 (27.4 - 32.4%) -- 60.9% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Choice Band Hitmonchan Rock Slide vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Arbok: 106-125 (32.7 - 38.5%) -- 3.8% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Needless to say that Solar Beam completely fizzles out even without early awakenings caused by Shed Skin:

252+ SpA Bellossom Solar Beam vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Arbok: 102-120 (31.4 - 37%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
