Arcanine

sanguine

friendly fire
is a Tiering Contributor
[OVERVIEW]

  • Arcanine sports 90/80 physical bulk, Intimidate, and Morning Sun, which means in theory it should be able to check threats such as Scizor, Infernape, and Breloom.
  • However, this is not the case, as Arcanine is dogged down by a weakness to Stealth Rock, and because of this, cannot reliably pivot into most threats it should check.
  • Additionally, common sets such as Swords Dance Fightinium Z Cobalion, and Choice Band Infernape can still break through Arcanine after Intimidate.
  • Arcanine’s means of recovery is also semi-unreliable, due to its 8 PP, and Hippowdon’s Sand Stream ability making Morning Sun only 25% recovery, for the duration of Sandstorm, further reducing Arcanine’s longetivity.
  • Arcanine is extremely passive, giving top tier metagame threats such as Latias, Gliscor, and Togekiss free setup.
  • It also is completely outclassed as a defensive Fire-type as well by Moltres, who sports better recovery and defensive typing.
