[OVERVIEW]
Aromatisse is one of the best defensive Fairy-types in the tier, capable of checking powerful Fighting-types like Passimian and Scrafty. Aromatisse sets itself apart from its competition thanks to the Wish and Heal Bell support it can provide its teammates, as well as an immunity to Taunt and Encore. Unfortunately, Aromatisse's mono-Fairy typing and lack of coverage leave it prone to giving strong wallbreakers like Magmortar and Centiskorch and setup users like Braviary a free switch-in. Aromatisse is reliant on Wish to keep itself healthy, forcing it to use Protect very often, which can be a huge momentum drain. Aromatisse also has an average Special Attack stat, which leaves it unable to beat foes like Virizion and Gallade one-on-one if they have boosted their stats. While they don't check the same Pokemon, Aromatisse faces some competition from Vaporeon, which is a much more effective cleric thanks to its access to moves like Scald and Flip Turn alleviating its passive nature.
[SET]
name: Defensive
move 1: Moonblast
move 2: Wish
move 3: Protect
move 4: Heal Bell / Psychic / Toxic
item: Leftovers / Heavy-Duty Boots
ability: Aroma Veil
nature: Bold
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
[SET COMMENTS]
Heal Bell provides Aromatisse and its teammates with cleric support. Psychic allows Aromatisse to punish Poison-types, notably OHKOing Toxicroak. Toxic allows Aromatisse to cripple Pokemon like Gigalith and Talonflame. Calm Mind is an option for the last slot to give Aromatisse a more offensive precense; however, many Fairy-resistant Pokemon such as Talonflame and Aggron can still overwhelm Aromatisse with status or sheer power. Aroma Veil is a useful ability that prevents Aromatisse from being shut down by Taunt and Encore. Heavy-Duty Boots is an alternative option over Leftovers to prevent Aromatisse from being worn down by entry hazards, though the passive recovery from Leftovers is generally preferred.
Aromatisse fits best on bulky offense and balance builds that value Wish support and a sturdy Fighting-type check. Silvally-Steel can give Aromatisse a safe switch-in against Fighting-types with Parting Shot or U-turn and provide Defog support to stop Aromatisse from being easily worn down by entry hazards. It can also help check special attackers like Vanilluxe for Aromatisse. In return, Aromatisse can make up for Silvally-Steel's lack of recovery through Wish support. Weezing and Jellicent can help provide a secondary Fighting-type check, primarily providing an answer to Toxicroak. Jellicent can also check offensive Steel- and Fire-types like Silvally-Steel, Alolan Sandslash, and Talonflame. Gigalith and Lanturn can help check strong Fire-types such as Talonflame and Magmortar that Aromatisse invites in, both also greatly valuing the Wish support Aromatisse provides.
