New thread. Same rules as always.

1. Your answers should contain at least a brief explanation, even if it was the simplest of questions.
2. While answering Yes/No question, please quote the question you're referring to. It gets confusing otherwise.
3. At least do a simple google search before asking the question here.
4. We have a lot of excellent resources on our site. Be sure to check our articles, and not just for DP, before asking here. Our item and move descriptions are also a handy resource. You may be able to answer your own question with those resources faster than it would take for someone to respond to your question in this thread.
5. On a related note of #4. If you answer an extremely simple question such as "What does the Yache Berry do?", instead of just answering the question direct them to the appropriate link (in this case http://www.smogon.com/dp/items/yache_berry) so they will know where to find that type of information in the future without coming to this thread. Likewise, if a member asks for a damage calculation link them to a damage calculator.
6. This isn't the thread for "Look At This Pokemon" or "Should I keep it with these IVs" etc., use this thread
7. This is already in the Smogon and Stark forum rules, but I will reiterate again do not discuss ROMs or other illegal things. Also, don't ask for AR codes here. Use google for that.

WARNING: Failing to follow these simple guidelines may result into an infraction.

In addition, here is a handy list of some information to avoid certain questions being asked over and over again:

  • If the metaserver for ShoddyBattle is down (this is where only 1 server, usually Official, will appear on the list) click Advanced and a box should appear prompting you to "manually enter server information". If you wish to get to Smogon Shoddy under Host: type in shoddybattle.smogon.com and under Port: type in 50000. If you wish to access the CAP server under Host: type in cap.servegame.com and under Port: type in 8888.
  • If you are having trouble editing your posts, go to "User CP" as in User Control Panel, "Edit Options", and in the "Miscellaneous Options" section, set Message Editor Interface to "Basic Editor" which will allow you to edit in BBCode, then set back to "Enhanced Interface" when you are finished.
  • Looking for a legal Hidden Power legendary IV spread? Either play around with it (it's not hard to figure out the patterns) or look here or here.
  • NP = Now Playing (yes this was asked with frequency in other threads!)
  • CMT = Check My Thread
  • No, you can't have an image in your signature unless you have a badge.
  • No, you can't rate threads unless you have badge either.
  • Migrated Pokemon from previous generations can change their abilities upon evolution when traded to DP.
  • No, we don't know what your SID is. Ask in WiFi forums "Simple Questions / Simple Requests" or something. Or better yet, do it yourself.
  • The Rotom-formes are not currently usable over wifi, only local wireless (link battles). Same goes for Giratina-O & Shaymin-S.
  • On the note of hypnosis accuracy. If Platinum is the host, the accuracy is 60%. If DP is the host, it's 70%
  • For information on interesting and useful applications check out the DP Information / Resource thread and The Best of C&C.
  • The RNG stands for Random Number Generator (although it's not actually "random"). The RNG determines almost every one of the "random" events that take place in game and can be used in breading termed "RNG-abuse". For help RNG-abuse refer to his help thread. For technical information and applications see the In-Game RNG Section.
Also, if there are any commonly asked questions (use your judgement here guys) that I missed; just send me a PM and I'll add it in after doing a search through the old thread. Thanks.

I have a few simple questions:

1) Regarding Medicham, if it uses Power Trick, does he swap the Attack stat before or after Pure Power?? So, will it get 480 Defense (Assuming +ve nature), or would it get 240 Defense and Pure Power still double the Power Tricked Attack stat??

2) What's an IV spread for getting Hidden Power Ice onto Hasty Raikou and lowering SpA, Spe and Atk to a minimum??

Let's say I have a Dugtrio, and it has arena trapped a Shuckle. If I switched out, can the Shuckle switch out the same turn? What if I have arena trapped a pokemon faster than dugtrio?

minimum? Thats tough to find. try 31/18/30/15/31/3, though there might be something lower

Arena Trap doesn't keep Pokémon from switching out. It keeps you from telling your Pokémon to switch out when you input commands for the turn. So, your Pokémon can switch out on the same turn that an Arena Trap Pokémon switches in, but not on the same turn that an Arena Trap Pokémon switches out, regardless of Speed.

It also means that Baton Pass, U-turn, Roar, and Whirlwind will all make you switch out, even if an opponent has Arena Trap.

Does a pokemon with levitate or is part flying get effected by Arena Trap?
Just wanted to say that I made it in the first page, and nice eye you got thar

I currently am playing a team supporting OTR Bronzong.

Team is: Leadtran/OTRZong/CBTar/SpecsKingdra/bulkyGyara/Blissey

Is it advisable to change CBTar's nature to Brave with no speed EVs?
What about Kingdra? Is it advisable to change to Quiet?

A. Can anyone tell me if Hidden Power Ground or Ice is viable enough on lead Roserade to bother breeding one? Are either a situational gimmick?

B. Does Mirror Coat Milotic want a Bold nature and max Defense + HP or a Calm Nature with max special defense + HP?

What's this "EV restriction" I've heard so much about Arceus having?

Due to the limits of the code of Shoddy Battle, and Arceus' base 120 stats, only 100 EVs can be given to Arceus in a single stat. There is still a normal 510 EV cap, but it's 100 for each stat instead of 252 for Arceus.

Dunno about ice in the lead slot, i don't believe you can possibly predict a salamence switch in anyway (not that youd do anything but sleep powder first anyway). But ground could be as it hits heatran (mainly), metagross (don't know if it is anywhere near a 2HKO) and infernape(it'll destroy you first) for SE damage.

I'd just go Bold, more damage taken on the special side = more mirror coat damage.

No idea why you're trying to do that (Hasty with min Spe?), but for a Hasty Method 1 like Raikou from HGSS, 31/1/31/1/31/0 is legal. If you want HP Ice 70, try 27/2/30/3/31/3. (The spreads come from this tool, which is useful for finding unusual legal Hidden Power spreads, among other things.)

In the analysis for Roserade, it says that HP Ground is to hit Steel types that resist your other attacks, while HP Ice is to hit Salamence. I don't know how difficult it is to breed one, but late-game, you'll probably want to be able to hit a lot of things super-effectively, and Roserade with a Choice Scarf/Choice Specs can be an effective revenge killer, but only if you give it the right coverage. I would recommend using it, but if it's too difficult to breed the right IVs, then I would suggest not doing it and trying something else. But HP Ice seems to be situational; only for Salamence, so if you don't need that, then HP Ground is probably what you should go for.

As previously stated by connoisseur, just go Bold, more damage taken means more damage given.

I think he means "minimally lowering these IVs", i.e: "with these IVs and high as possible".

Linoone

Why isn't linoone usable in OU? It seems like charizard except slightly weaker with priority and easier setup.

scizor OHKOes it with bullet punch
and it cant really set up on much and when it somehow does, the everpresent physical wall/bulky pokemon (skarmory should destroy it every time) on the team can take a blow and KO linoone. I think 95% of OU can KO a 50% linoone anyway.

Linoone can't even go mixed and the moment you are using linoone, the opponent knows your set while Charizard could fake a bellyzard and actually be a specszard.

can a special specs fearow OHKO standard ledian with hidden power steel and if not is there any alternative that i can use to check standard ledian?

I mean, I have read the analysis, but what I'm curious about...
Which one gets better coverage on today's most common leads: Ground or Fire? I'm assuming I could just sleep powder Heatran, but would it be worthwile to outright kill it?

A. Can anyone tell me if Hidden Power Ground or Ice is viable enough on lead Roserade to bother breeding one? Are either a situational gimmick?

I feel this was answered badly. Personally, I prefer both of these to HP Fire, the standard on a lead Roserade, as it allows you to have a maximum speed IV, which lets you put to sleep other Roserade in the lead position. HP ice is the best option. Being able to kill lead Dragonite and Gliscor is nice, as well as hitting stuff like Mence that might try to set up on you. Note that you can also 2HKO Aero without dropping your special attack. HP Ground is less useful and more situational, and should only really be considered for Heatran, who a) can be put to sleep in the lead position b) often carries shuca berry and c) OHKOes you easily (barring sash). It might even survive without a -spdef nature. As for other steels, most of them do not care much for Roserade's HP ground(e.g Skarm, Metagross, Bronzong, Scizor, Forretress) so I would consider it a much lesser option.
