i'm having trouble passing substitute on to my smeargle in an ingame 2-on-2 battle. when ninjask performs substitute and smeargle sketches, it fails. can somebody explain and tell me how i can successfully pass it?

Make Ninjask fall under 25%, i.e. too weak to preform Sub, then try Sketch.

I'm pretty sure Sandstorm (maybe rain doubt hail) makes solar beam have to charge for 3 turns.

I don't see why you shouldn't get the EVs, because you are 'defeating' the enemy, even if its death was self-inflicted.

If you get the experience, you get the EVs. Is that not how it goes?

If the enemy blows itself up and either your Pokemon survives and/or at least 1 other Pokemon battled and switched out, you get the experience for beating it.
