hi

I want to know if theres a combination of moves banned?
No combination of moves is banned as far as I know. Only single moves like Double team, Minimize, etc.

1.) Am I right in thinking that all of the tiers operate on a system of updating every three months?

2.) Do all the tiers update at the same time or could things, for example, move between OU and UU one month and between UU and RU in a different month?
Yes they all do at the same time, every 3 months, the next tier update comes when July finishes and the stats for this month are taken.

What are the advantages of using Scizor and Dragonite on the same team?

What are the advantages of using Scizor and Dragonite on the same team?
Scizor and Dragonite are both solid OU Pokés and they don't have to be used together, but they do have good defensive synergy because Dragonite resists Fire and Scizor resists Ice and Dragon and takes neutral damage from Rock. They also both have very strong priority attacks

When someone baton passes a substitute, the substitute has the same HP as the pokemon that passed it. But what set of defences does it take into account, the baton passer or the pokemon it's been passed to?

Corkscrew:

The only attribute of a substitute is its life points: Substitute is an effect on a Pokemon not unlike Focus Energy or Aqua Ring (in that they can be transferred with Baton Pass). The substitute "inherits" everything else about the Pokemon it belongs to, including that Pokemon's Defense. They will change accordingly as the Pokemon is replaced with Baton Pass. The substitute nevertheless retains its life points. The only thing that can affect a substitute's life points is damage due to an attack against the Pokemon with the substitute.

This is something I just came up with:
4 pokes:
Fish, Cat, Dog and Hamster

Fish > Cat
Fish > Hamster
Dog > Cat
Dog > Fish
Cat > Hamster
Hamster > Dog

All start in OU

Fish is soon said to be 'broken', because it has only one counter, and is banned.

Cat and Hamster usage rises, as a consequence of:
Fish being banned
Dog lowering in usage, now that it's main purpose is gone.

Cat is said to be 'broken', due to it's main counters, Dog and Fish, losing their usefulness and getting banned, respectively.

However, now that Cat is banned, Dog gets more usage again, it's only counter being Hamster.

The community decides to test Fish in OU again, and this time, due Cat being banned, it is much less useful, thus, much less 'broken'

With Fish back into OU, people realize that Cat is probably not as broken as it was before, and unban it, with succes.

Cycle starts again.
First, please point out any obvious mistakes. It's something I wrote really quickly.
Second, and most importantly: Could this actually happen in our metagame (Over a timespan of, say, 1 or 2 years)

EDIT: I don't really know if this is a Simple Question, but whatever.
EDIT2: I found out that some things make little sense, but I think you all get what I mean. We could, after banning and unbanning a lot of stuff, very well have the exact same metagame in a year or two.

Wait, so do they keep the new stats for the rest of the battle unless it uses it again??? (I like ur duke nukem avatar btw XDD)
Are you sure Guard Swap is the move you want to know about? Guard Swap works like: You have a Pokémon with -1 Defense. Your opponent has a Pokémon with +2 Defense and +2 Special Defense. Your Pokémon uses Guard Swap and now you have +2 Defense and +2 Special Defense and now your opponent has -1 Defense. If you switch out, your opponent will have -1 Defense and you will have your boosts reset.

Chielee,

I don't think that scenario could happen. For one, a threat at one point of a metagame for a certain mon can turn into no problem six months later. Gengar, for instance, used to be walled by Blissey before people figured out the Subsplit and SubDisable sets. However, these sets struggle against Skarmory when the "old standard" did not. Does this make Gengar "better" than both Blissey and Skarmory? Not necessarily, because it has to pick which one it wants to beat. Pokemon is the same way.

In tough cases, one key set will ban a mon. Blaze's SD/Protect/FlareBlitz/HJK set with Speed Boost is the only reason it's broken. Likewise, Chomp's bulky set with Sand Veil was enough to take it to ubers because there was only an 80 percent chance at max from something breaking its subs and setting up SD. If people decide there is "no way" that a metagame counter cannot arise, they ban the pokemon. As "banhappy" as Smogon appears, it's really hard to get things unbanned even after a year or two. In theory your idea might work, but the meta changes way too rapidly for it to work in practice.

Can someone give me a full list of Pokemon banned in Random Match up?

Thanks. I wasn't sure about Phione and Trio legends as I never see them there, but I wanted to make sure on whether or not they were banned or just not used very much.

if i put a ton of vitamins in a pokemon in pearl, then transfer it to my white, will it keep the EVs?
also, will acupressure try to boost a stat that is already maxed?

Yes it will keep the EV's.

also, will acupressure try to boost a stat that is already maxed?
It chooses one at random, so it will attempt to boost a maxed out stat and the "Pokemon's Sp. Atk won't go higher! ]" message will appear.

Also just wondering if a Swoobat set of Calm Mind/Stored Power/Roost/(Idk what to put here)would work?

i suggest double team, to aid survivability. or maybe u turn or air slash to take out dark types. i made a clefairy with minimize, work up, and cosmic power that got dittoed and was a MAAAAAAAAJOR pain to get rid of.

Tbh that's mostly completely outclassed by Sigilyph. Sigilyph is bulkier, has Magic Guard, and can Burn the ever-present Tyranitar that switch in to kill you. And yes, Calm Mind will increase your Special Attack and make Stored Power more powerful, but it's far easier to get more boosts with Sigilyph than it is with Swoobat, and more boosts is what makes Stored Power worthwhile at all.

Also, though I know this is late,

your next one should be Flare Blitz Flareon.

I'm looking for some Female, Dream World ability mons. IVs don't matter, I just need the ability for RNG purposes.

Tauros

If you're new to the site, and don't recognize me, I have nearly 1000 RNGs either from my own RNGs or trades here on smogon. If you need it, I probably have it, especially if it's VGC related. Unfortunately my enormous thread containing all my 4th and prior gen mons disappeared when wifi went down and was never resurrected, but HERE and HERE are lists of what 5th gen RNGs I've done, if you're looking for something specific. If you're looking for a 4th gen mon though, just ask and I probably have it.

I would appreciate it if you could reply via VM, PM, or IRC (links in my sig) because those would be the fastest way to contact me. Thanks.

I thought that's what you meant. Okay say you have a Pokémon named B and you are fighting a Pokémon named Z. B has 100 Defense and 100 Special Defense. Z has 200 Defense and 200 Special Defense and Z has +2 Special Defense and +2 Defense. B uses Guard Split. Now both Pokémon have 150 Defense, 150 Special Defense, +1 Defense, and +1 Special Defense. If you then switch B out, B will revert back to 100 Defense and 100 Special Defense and +-0 Defense and +-0 Special Defense, but Z will keep the 150 Defense, 150 Special Defense, +1 Defense, and +1 Special Defense until it switches out.

I hope that made sense XP

If you have an Exp share on a poke, does it get all of the Evs or only half. For example, if Gliscor kills a Stunfisk (2 HP evs) and Skarmory is holding an Exp share, do they each get 2 or do they each get 1?
