Here is my monthly installment of the average movesets and moves used for the previous month, November 2009.

From this month I'm also offering something extra: item statistics. This is simply the smallest number of items held more often than not by a Pokemon (i.e. more than 50% of said Pokemon hold one of the items listed).

For example:

Code:
4. TYRANITAR (Usages: 141503)

Average EVs: 92 HP, 192 Atk, 12 Def, 32 SpA, 36 SpD, 144 Spe
Average Nature Boosts/Reductions: +3.4% Atk, -7.0% SpA, +1.0% SpD, +2.6% Spe
[B]Most Common Items: Leftovers, Babiri Berry, Choice Band[/B]

Typical moveset:
- Crunch
- Stone Edge
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake

* Pursuit, Fire Punch, Flamethrower and Superpower can replace any of the four moves listed.
The bolded part is the new part. Here, we see that Tyranitar holds Leftovers, Babiri Berry or Choice Band more often than not.

Enjoy!

Why does DD Ttar not run Lum Berry? It can DD against Things like Blissey (Toxic), Rotom-A (Will-o'-wisp), Vaporeon with some SpDef EVs (Toxic) and proceed to wreck almost anything that stands in its way that is not named Scizor of Scarftran.

Earthquake the favourite move as always...makes one wonder about making a team where everyone is immune or resists it.

Are these stats based on actual USAGE in battle, or on how often the moves are 'carried'. I'd be interested to see if there are discrepancies there - certain moves may be carried a lot but rarely actually used in battle.

They're based on how much they appear in movesets, not how much they're used in actuality.

I would assume that if one is putting a move on a Pokemon one would intend to use the move. "I put Splash on Gyarados!" Now, when would I use Splash?

Oh, watch Scizor.

U-turn 8.03%
Bullet Punch 6.97%

I believe what cantab was getting at was something along the lines of:

Scizor runs Superpower often on it's Choice Band moveset, but it usually uses either U-turn or Bullet Punch. Superpower could be run on a lot of Scizors but rarely used, so that would lead to a higher percentage of Superpower being run on a moveset versus the lower amount of how often it is used in actuality.

Also, thanks X-Act for this. These in combination with Doug's stats are rather helpful for team-building and I'm glad you can do this for us.

I am amazed Thunderbolt still has more usage then Stealth Rock in standard!
I see SR a lot more..
Thunderbolt is run on more movesets than Stealth Rock, which is why it appears that way. Generally Stealth Rock is run on one Pokemon per team, while Thunderbolt can be run on more than one Pokemon per team, especially with the BoltBeam combo being so effective. This is why it appears higher in the list, probably.

Superpower on Choice Band Scizor is only ever used in real emergencies or bizarre situations. I would actually prefer Brick Break to deal with Dual Screen teams.

But then again, Superpower is solid on Swords Dance Life Orb Scizor. A +4 Superpower OHKOes Skarmory, meaning that Scizor wins if its the last Pokemon and Skarmory is switching in. Also, Bug Bite is great because with a Life Orb and Stealth Rock, Swords Dance + Bug Bite + Bullet Punch defeats Gyarados. I can honestly say that I'm eating my old words about Swords Dance Scizor being nothing but an inferior Lucario now.

I was just trying to show Golden Steelix what cantab was trying to say. But glad about the new Scizor knowledge for myself ;) (And others I suppose.)

Good work as always, X-Act. I'm going to post my "move type frequency" thread shortly after (maybe after sleep - it's 4:40 AM here!).

Thanks X-Act, very helpful stats here. Baton Pass at 2.64% seems a bit too high for me, almost never see it other than the occasional Baton Pass team or Jolteon.

Good work and thanks X-Act.

Not really a surprise that Earthquake and Ice Beam see more usage on the Suspect Ladder than Standard.

Ice Punch at 4.91%? Higher than Outrage and Draco Meteor? Have Weavile and CS Jirachi really taken over the likes of DD Mence, Flygon, Kingdra, MixMence, and Latias?

Anyways, interesting stats. Thank you for this.

Some people have the whole team knowing Baton Pass when they do a BP team. So I guess it'd be counted multiple times per Baton Pass team, which could clock up quite a lot.

It's interesting to see the differences in moves carried between Standard and Suspect, especially once you get past the top few (which are pretty unsurprising); even just this can provide many interesting insights into the metagame differences. Swords Dance takes the title for most obvious difference, being carried much more often in Suspect than in Standard. And though it's less obvious since it's split between multiple moves, Fire-type attacks are carried ridiculously more often in Suspect than in Standard; combine Fire Fang, Fire Blast, and HP Fire's percentages, and you get an impressive 23.02%, skyrocketing "whatever fire-type move can be fit on this Pokemon's moveset" past Ice Beam and even Thunderbolt to rival Dragon-type moves in popularity.

Earthquake the favourite move as always...makes one wonder about making a team where everyone is immune or resists it.
The problem is that Stealth Rock, Thunderbolt, and Ice attacks are also really popular :/ Most Pokemon resistant are hit hard by these.

And yet Thunderbolt's percentage was also up...
I suppose as a way to deal with Manaphy(he was suspect, right?), since grass moves are pretty poor as far as coverage is concerned and Grass Knot doesn't do much at all to it. I personally wouldn't want to give Garchomp a free switch, but oh well.
