With Regulation G coming to a close I wanted to make a write up about another team, I never got around to doing more than one in Reg H though I did have a lot of really nice ones. The team I’ll be showing off today was made mostly by my good friend StarkGod with some minor optimizations by me.

This team piles on offense in the form of a dual choice item core of Banded Koraidon and Specs Flutter Mane. Rounding out our offensive core is an all-out attacker Dragonite aiming to provide maximum coverage. Backing that up is a three piece bulky core consisting of Alomomola, Ting-Lu, and Assault Vest Alolan Muk. A good blend of offense and defense that operates at our signature breakneck pace.
This team report will feature songs from the following artists

Koraidon has become my signature pokemon of generation nine and for good reason. My last Regulation G team featured Choice Scarf, blending its stratospheric power with blistering speed. This time we’ve gone the other route, going all in on power with Choice Band. Koraidon’s power with Band is breathtaking, being able to 2 hit KO otherwise sturdy checks like Dondozo. Close Combat is taken over Collision Course specifically to grant more power against neutral targets. With this extra power Koraidon can reliably grab some astonishing KOs, easily blowing through opposing Koraidon, as mentioned earlier Dondozo is not at all a safe switch in. This jaw dropping strength allows us to make a seemingly odd selection in Flame Charge, but with Tera Fire and Choice Band this hits deceptively hard, and the Speed boost this provides can allow Koraidon to clean house late game. We forgo Dragon STAB in favor of U-turn in our last slot, allowing Koraidon to chunk temporary checks like Landorus while safely switching in one of its teammates to continue pressuring the opponent. I love Koraidon and this set is one of the most fun and rewarding sets I’ve used on it. Easily my favorite restricted.

Flutter Mane is a necessity on any Koraidon team, the two complement each other so well and cover each others checks beautifully. Once again we maximize power on this set, going with Choice Specs. Thanks to Protosynthesis, we also have an effective Choice Scarf on Flutter as long as Sun is active. The moveset we’ve went with is very standard here, utilizing STABs for maximum damage and Mystical Fire as coverage that can take advantage of Sun. Perish Song is chosen to break stall mons and secure last-mon scenarios where we might have trouble breaking the opponent. Tera Normal is taken as an emergency Calyrex check in the event we are unable to use our SpDef tanks to handle it. Not too much to say here, Flutter Mane is very straight forward but extremely effective in what it does. An essential inclusion on this squad.

In a shocking turn of events this Dragonite is actually mostly a team preview threat. Now that doesn’t mean it has no purpose, but it has very limited application on this team and mostly serves as a check to very specific things and to provide pressure at team preview. This Dragonite forgoes any sort of setup or utility in favor of maximizing coverage with an all-out attacker set. It utilizes the age old combination of Extreme Speed, backed up by Tera Normal, and Earthquake. Complementing this combo is Scale Shot, allowing Dragonite to serve as a late-game cleaner, and Ice Spinner, which can catch the numerous Ice-weak threats that surge in popularity with restricted metas. Chief among these targets for this Dragonite is Landorus Therian, as the defensive variants can cause massive issues for Koraidon, adding Rocky Helmet chip in addition to the Flare Blitz recoil it will be piling on. Our next pick will help alleviate this problem but having a more offensive way to answer it can be massively useful in some cases, and Dragonite accomplishes that.

Alomomola is a great defensive pivot in the current metagame with its beneficial typing and high bulk paired with Regenerator to stay alive for an annoyingly long time. This Alomomola forgoes Special Defense for the sake of maximizing the size of its Wishes and being nearly impenetrable on the physical side. Rocky Helmet allows it to punish other pivots with chip damage and enables it to apply pressure to important threats like Koraidon and Dragonite while tanking their hits. Alomomola’s true strength on this team lies in being able to heal its teammates almost to full every time. Alomomola giving Koraidon another chance to blow through the opponent or giving its defensive partners massive amounts of HP back to continue to check their targets can be devastating and sometimes end games on the spot.

With Miraidon being as popular and powerful as it is it’s pretty much mandatory to include some kind of specially defensive Ground type on your team, and Ting-Lu is the premier option. This Ting-Lu set is probably the most annoying set you can run right now, it’s very difficult to stop this set from getting at least two layers of hazards if it’s played well, and with Wish support from Alomomola you can stack to your hearts content, safe in the fact that you will be able to heal off most of the damage it takes between Alo’s massive Wish and Sitrus Berry. With the amount of damage Stealth Rock and potentially three layers of Spikes will be doing to anything that comes in, Whirlwind becomes a pseudo offensive move meaning mono Earthquake isn’t really an issue anymore. Maximum hazards rip nearly half the opponents health away when they come in, which means a lot of Koraidon’s common checks like Dondozo can no longer switch into even resisted attacks safely. Of course this is all in addition to Ting-Lu’s primary role of stopping Miraidon from getting out of hand.

ABCDE F yo bitch and keep it G
Alolan Muk serves a few purposes on this team, first and foremost it’s probably the sturdiest Calyrex Shadow check in the game. Secondly, it is a grounded Poison type which allows it to rid the field of Toxic Spikes in the event the opponent has them, and finally it can be a major pain for opposing bulky mons to deal with thanks to Knock Off and Poison Touch. Knock Off’s removal of items such as potential Choice Scarves, Leftovers and Heavy-Duty Boots can make Koraidon even more difficult to switch into, and all it takes is one Poison Touch proc for even the sturdiest checks to be put in very real danger. Drain Punch allows Muk to get some HP back against things like Ursaluna Bloodmoon and the rare Iron Bundle, though passing it a Wish with Alomomola is more consistent most of the time. Generally you don’t want to be Terastallizing Muk, but Tera Ghost can catch some Koraidon off guard, and it can give Shadow Sneak the extra kick it needs to secure an important KO on something like Flutter mane or Calyrex if necessary. You’ll generally want to save Tera for Koraidon, though. Muk was a late addition to this team but ended up being massively helpful and is one of the mons I find myself bringing the most often, it’s so good at checking so much.

And that is the team, a potent blend of nearly unstoppable offense from some of the heaviest hitters available, backed up by a stellar support cast. As stated in the prelude this build was mostly by my good friend StarkGod and I would be remiss if I didn’t recommend you follow him and take a look at his team dumps. He’s one of the best teambuilders in the smogon BSS scene at the moment and he really deserves more praise.
I was recently laid off of my job due to the economic crash that has happened in America recently and while that did hit me pretty hard I’ve been slowly rebuilding and finding small victories while I try to put that part of my life together again. I was recently crowned RBTT Champion as a part of Team Zeraora, which is my first major tournament win, and I’m really excited about that. I’d like to give a special shoutout to my Team Zeraora members for helping keep me sane in the immediate fallout after losing my job. The Rands community has kinda become a second home for me in the mons community and it’s nice to have such kind people around.
