Set Name: BandTar
move: Pursuit
move: Stone Edge
move: Crunch
move: Earthquake/Superpower
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252atk 252sp def 4def
Nature: Adamant
Item: Choice Band
Use: This Tyranitar set is made with the soul purpose to kill ZardY's counters which include Latios/Latias Mega Latios/Latias Chansey/Blissey. While pursuit deals the lati twins with ease Chansey and Blissey can be problematic. With a Choice Band Superpower TTar guaranteed kills Blissey and does a lot of damage to Chansey and most precisely kills it if its not fully invested into Defense. The special defense investment paired up with Sand Stream makes it a semi sp def tank as well. However the lati twins can aura sphere on the switch dealing heavy damage to tar which is something to be aware of. Trapping and chipping these mons opens a path for ZardY and sand sweepers like Excadrill and Dracozolt. Mons that usually deal with tar well like LandoT and Scor will get heavily chipped by the banded stone edge even after LandoT's intimidate. The sp def investment alongside makes TTar a semi sp def tank as well.
Main Weaknesses include:
Chip Damage- As Tyranitar lacks recovery residual chip wears it down really quickly.
Status- Status is a pain for Tyranitar usually toxic and will o wisp as toxic gradually chips it and wears it down really quickly will o wisp lessens its offensive potential.
Way to deal with it
The only way you can deal with it as far as I know is with wish support from others mons and heal bell.
Fighting types: Tyranitar is Rock/Dark type making it 4x weak to fighting moves. Faster fighting types such as Mega Medicham and Blaziken have no problem dealing with it and other mons with fighting type coverage threatens it as well.
Ground types: Ground types like LandoT Scor and Chomp are pretty popular in this metagame and all threaten tyranitar as they can swap in on it even after choice band due to their natural bulk and threaten to OHKO it with Earthquake. All these mons also out speed Tyranitar naturally making it vulnerable to them.
Grass types: While there aren't many grass types in the tier, the ones that are threaten to revenge kill Tyranitar. Due to Rillaboom's natural physical bulk it can swap into Tar and threaten to OHKO it with Grassy Glide/Superpower. Tyranitar's sand cancels out the healing from the terrain making Boom not able to swap in again and again and recover health reliably. Serperior can't swap in on Tyranitar but Leaf Storm does dizzying damage to Tar. Venusaur doesn't threaten tar immediately as the chlorophyll boost has been canceled by Tar's Sand Stream, however Tar should look out for a growth boosted Giga Drain on the occasional sun teams.
Water types: However most water types aren't a big problem for Tar due to its naturally high special defense, mons like Dragon Dance Gyarados Belly Drum Azumaril Tail Glow Manaphy and Specs Ash Greninja do threaten it. Toxapex and Tapu Fini aren't that bad of a problem.
Steel types: Lastly steel types, which is another noticeable weakness of Tyranitar. Mons like Iron Head Mega Mawile/Excadrill threaten it with a clean OHKO. Bullet punch Mega Scizor, Choice Specs Magnezone, Steelium Z Heatran and Excadrill are pretty solid checks as well.
However, the reason this Tyranitar set is good is because of it's pairing with ZardY. ZardY threatens Steel/Grass with its Fire stab Ground/Water with Solar Beam and resists Fighting moves and can go for Air Slash if one wants it over Scorching Sands. This Tyranitar set is recommended to be used with ZardY most of the time. Tyranitar and ZardY have incredible synergy with each other and handle each others weaknesses well. Paired up with a sand sweeper like Excadrill is what makes this core even more threatening.
