2022 BSSC INVITATIONALS

Welcome to the final BSS tournament of the 2022 circuit, where the champion will be crowned with a ribbon
on their profile. The top 12 performing players in this year's circuit will be battling it out to win it all.

Specific Rules
  • This is a Standard SWSH Battle Stadium Singles Tournament.
  • The tournament will be Best of 5, Single Elimination with no teamlock
  • Games can be played with Series 13 rules ONLY IF BOTH PLAYERS AGREE TO IT. If one player does not agree to playing Series 13, the set will default to Series 12. All games within a set must follow the rules of one series (e.g. 5 games of Series 12, not starting with 2 games of Series 12 and finishing with 3 games of Series 13)
  • Because the challenge-only format for Gen 8 BSS is Series 12 rules, in order to play Series 13 you must use a custom rules challenge. This can be accomplished by using /challenge [USER] gen8battlestadiumsingles@@@+mythical,+restricted legendary in any PS room chat or /challenge gen8battlestadiumsingles@@@+mythical,+restricted legendary in PMs.
  • Bringing a Series 13 team to a Series 12 game will result in a game loss.
  • Matches MUST be played on the Smogtours server (http://smogtours.psim.us/)
  • Replays must be saved and POSTED. Matches without a replay will not count as completed.
  • In an event of a timeout, the player who times out will lose that game unless the opponent grants a rematch. This holds true even for a disconnect, due to being unable to know which three Pokemon have been selected at team preview. Consequently, players do not need to send in their teams to a TD.
Standard Rules
  • Matches will be played in the Singles format
  • Pokemon above level 50 will be brought down to level 50, and Pokemon below level 50 will be brought up to level 50
  • Players pick 3 of their 6 Pokemon at team preview
  • Battle Mark Clause: A Pokemon cannot have a set that can only be obtained from before gen 7. (i.e. no past-gen exclusive move tutors/TMs/events)
  • Species Clause: No two Pokemon in the same team can have the same National Pokedex number.
  • Item Clause: No two Pokemon in the same team can hold the same item.

Simulator Glitches: Any battle mechanics not properly implemented in the simulator used for a tournament battle are fair game, unless explicitly banned by that tournament's rules. Illegal movesets that are not restricted by the simulator fall into this category as well. However, this does not include faulty tier scripts; for example, if there was a bug in the BW OU tier script that allowed you to use Drizzle and Swift Swim on the same team, taking advantage of this would result in disqualification in that battle. If a game breaking glitch is discovered, we will make a blanket tournament ban on that glitch via an announcement in the Tournaments forum until it is fixed.

Ghosting: The player in a tournament battle should be the one making their own decisions. Do not tell a player what move to make in a tournament battle (i.e. do not "ghost" them), and do not make your moves based on another person's suggestions. If we are made aware that someone playing a tournament battle is making some of their moves based mainly on the suggestions of someone else, punishments may be handed out to both parties involved.

Identity: Pretending to be another player in relation to a tournament battle is strictly prohibited. Do not try to impersonate or play as another player. This applies to the use of alts as well. Any player who breaks this will be disqualified and may be subject to further punishment.

Rule Breaking: If a player breaks a rule during a battle, they are disqualified from that particular battle. If it was a single battle in a series, they will still have the opportunity to play the rest of the series.

Draws: If a battle ends in a draw in an elimination tournament or another tournament format that is unable to handle draws, there should be a rematch between the players with the option for both players to change teams.

Forfeiting: A player may forfeit their battle during or after the battle, as long as the result has not been confirmed by the host. If a player forfeits before a battle commences in the first round of a tournament, they are eligible for substitution if appropriate. We highly recommend that you do not forfeit your tournament battles just because you got lucky, but we do not enforce this.

Host / Tournament Director Decisions: The host may make a judgment call on the outcome of a battle with a disputed result, even if one player has broken the rules. If you believe the host has made an unjust decision, you may inform the Tournament Director responsible for the tournament of the situation and request that they make a final call on it.

Sportsmanship: If a player displays exceedingly poor sportsmanship before, during, or after a tournament battle, they may be disqualified or otherwise punished.

Deadline for Round 1 is Sunday, December 11, 11:59PM EST (GMT-5)

Quarterfinals

(1) Kiby vs (9) martinvtran

(4) DerpySuX vs (5) Butch Hardnight

(2) zaaya vs (7) papiloco

(3) greilmercenary9 vs (11) luisin

It was brought to my attention that the timer on the SmogTours server is matching cart timer instead of the usual tournament timer that we have been using for these tours. As a result, players may now play on the main server if they wish, but make sure to save replays as it is not manual there.

Scheduled Times:
Kiby vs martinvtran:
DerpySuX vs Butch Hardnight:
zaaya vs papiloco:
greilmercenary9 vs luisin:

Deadline for Quarterfinals is Sunday, December 18, 11:59PM EST (GMT-5)

I know this sounds corny as hell LMAO but it truly hasn't hit me yet. I've been grinding at this since 2019 when I entered bss open on a whim seeing my friends fuck around with brokens like aegi, blaziken and mence wanting to get in on a piece of that action, which I just so happened to win and now here we are. It feels incredible starting the new year off right with this burden finally off my shoulders. More relieving than anything, I was too stubborn to ever give up on this until the goblin got his gold. Winning circuit and classic were two things I sought very hard to do, accomplishing both in one year is extremely fulfilling, I'm thankful I can finally give this grind a break :psyglad::psywoke:
I'm definitely gonna miss competing but at the same time, over the years I've kept a lot of cool techs/teams to myself as I value information preservation as a player a ton, so I look forward to finally dropping a meaty teamdump and sharing these things soon™ stay tuned :blobpex:
I may come back one day to try and win masters so I can have the full seasonal collection under my belt mwahaha, until then ill prolly just be laddering and giving the bw ribbon another go since once again, im stubborn and left a bit unsatisfied with how that invi's went. Quitting mons entirely is after all, a meme and certainly not something I'm powerful enough to do. Buuut I value that one a lot less than this so thankfully I can pursue that more casually and mons as a whole.
In the meantime, I would like to help the community out more where I can. I really enjoy sparring with people and leveling up our play together, it's probably my favorite part of managing in bspl and I'd like to extend that in a more broad way. While I've stayed away from gen 9 up till now as to not distract myself, I'll catch up eventually and when I do, don't be afraid to reach out if you ever want games if you're tryna practice for a tournament/test shit for said tournament. Especially for classic. Having a good sparring partner can really make all the difference, I never go into a set without practice beforehand myself. If I'm gonna be on the spectators bench from now on I wanna see some fire games :psysly:

Overall I'm thankful to finally have my bag and also thankful that the majority of this community is chill and pleasant to be around, godspeed and God bless gamers :sphearical:
