Battle Stadium Singles Sample Teams​

Welcome to the Sample Teams thread, these teams are created based on the current metagame by specialized players in the BSS tier. The sample teams are for new players, updated teams to be able to play in the tier and to enjoy it better.

You can find old sample teams and other resources! in the second post of this thread. Note this will be slowly updated for now, the focus is on Regulation D at the moment!

If your team did well, we want it! This post will list teams in order of their achievements, with pokepastes and Switch rentals when possible! For now, any team that's at 1800 or above elo and is clearly a serious team (so nothing like say, mono teams or LC teams lol) will be included! We'll also accept teams that did well on Showdown and Tournaments, though there's less of a hard "rule" for what those need to be included currently.

If this thread isn't enough, you can check out Japanese sites like Pokedb and Rotoportal, which will update ranked teams from time to time!

Choice Scarf Mimi Shenanigans by 11oyd


This is the team that I have been using on stream. I've peaked at just over top 1500 but I'm still working on optimizing this squad

The general idea is to get Azumarill and/ or Annihilape in while your opponent figures out what to do with their newly acquired choice scarf and/ or curse damage.

Sweep with Annihilape if they have many unaware, sweep with Azu if they don't. Breloom, Pult and Volc seem to compliment the team quite well and I bring them often enough to justify keeping them. I'm going to test out Hydreigon, Baxcalibur and some alternative Pult sets though.

In any case, if you want to try a scarf mimi team, this could be a good baseline

For now on, if you make a team that gets to at least 1800 ranking on the Switch, and the team is an actual serious team, then we'll probably include your team in the OP!

We'll certainly accept teams that reached a high rating on Showdown and did well in Tournaments as well, though there's less of a hard "rule" for that now, this is a different approach then we're used to!

This also includes teams you might find on say, rotoportal / hatena blogs. If you make a pokepaste and link to the person's team report, I might just edit it in!

On that note, I'm filling in for Dragonwhale this month for the top 10 teams! We don't have the entire top 10 so far though.

It's to win the 1v1 vs defensive helmet dnite. Who often just Roost until azu is in range of eq/e speed. It was azus biggest problem. Having all contact moves.

I have been going off with this team, recovering all the way from 45k up to right below 6k. Team has an extremely solid backbone (Defensive Gholdengo + Curse Dondozo is insane) and aggressive but very effective lead game in Gardevoir and Chien-Pao. The report gives a pretty simple selection process at team preview as well; it may look kind of odd but its not nearly as complicated as it looks in my opinion.

This has been by far the easiest team for me to pilot since starting gen 9. I highly recommend it.

On Showdown I peaked at number 3 with this team, and finished the month at 15th.

Not going to write a full RMT this time because CBA putting in all that effort just for it to end up stuck at the bottom of the RMT forum with barely 10 likes. I'm also not writing a hatenablog article because I'm too gaijin to get it to work for me, so a post here will have to suffice for this season's team (which I'm actually super happy with because it puts some somewhat uncommon Pokemon to very good use against some stuff that is pretty damn busted IMO)

End of Season placement​

One of the first things that might catch people's attention is that this is a team that would be legal in the previous series. This is actually not a conscious decision, but rather how the team turned out after a lot of ponderation. Chien-Pao was originally considered as the Choice Band user of choice on this team. However, Roaring Moon's stability against Chi-Yu was valued more highly in the end. As for to the team itself, I'd say it's a hard bunch to describe in a single handle. It looks like a face-to-face build it can absolutely play like one when the need arises. However, I would actually say it primarily operates as a two Pokemon cycle, with the third one being chosen depending on the opponent's build.



In spite of its many flaws, Roaring Moon was a phenomenal Pokemon to use between its sun-powered nukes, its ability to chunk things and scout for threats and defensive Tera usage on the opponent's end thanks to U-turn and its deceivingly high special defense stat, which gave it respectable utility in match-ups such as Chi-Yu and Gholdengo. Its partner in crime was specially defensive Corviknight, a previously underrated set which caught a lot of traction among top players this season. We took some liberties with ours and went with a funky Defog Pressure Leftovers set-up, which sounds sacrilegious by BSS standards but served a very specific purpose in neutralizing most Stealth Rock Ting-Lu variants, as Ruination now has the same amount of PP as Roost when used against Corv, while Stealth Rock has considerably less PP than Defog under these same circumstances. Protecting Tera'd Roaring Moon from Stealth Rock damage also goes a long way against many threats. These two together were selected in a vast majority of my games this season. Highly consistent duo with the ability to outplay a considerable portion of the Season 6 metagame.



The wholesome elder turtle is a very unique Pokemon that served a plethora of purposes on this team. Naturally, its ability allows it to power up all of Roaring Moon, Flutter Mane and Jumpluff on the version of the team that runs it. However, this pressure alone makes it worth having around, even after the team's Sun mode started losing its reliability, as it causes a need for the opponent to answer it in team preview, which can then be abused by the squad's primary mode (e.g., people using Dragonite sets walled by Corviknight in order to answer the threat of Roaring Sun). Its usefulness doesn't end there though, as it also happens to be a very stable Pokemon against most Chien-Pao sets, which helps discouraging it as a lead pick on the opposing end. Tera Grass allows it to lead into Breloom, Great Tusk and Rotom-Wash while being able to live to tell the story. Yawn + Stealth Rock let it play as a budget Hippowdon against teams that have a lackluster answer to Sleep loops, which can then be chained into one of the team's offensive threats even if sun runs out in the meantime. Its selection rate rate was fairly low all things considered, like around 4th or 5th depending on the version of the team.



This slot used to be a Dragonite, which makes this the first time in the history of competitive Pokemon where replacing a Dragonite with Hariyama significantly improved a team. Seriously, I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that this Pokemon single handily saved our season. While most Hariyama tend to run one of Assault Vest with Thick Fat or Flame Orb with Guts, our set is an extremely poor attempt at having both the offense and the defensive utility packed into a single set. It's also our Covert Cloak Pokemon of choice, which I would say is very close to mandatory near the top where so many players fall back onto Garganacl + Toxic Spikes (which Corviknight can remove, by the way) cycles. However, this item also allows Hariyama to stably deal with Icicle Crash and Dark Pulse flinch attempts from Chien-Pao and Chi-Yu respectively, making it a terrific bring into those two, while Tera Steel and Bullet Punch give it the ability to threaten Flutter Mane and weakened offensive Pokemon as a whole. Something worth noting is that even though Hariyama was awesome to use for the aforementioned reasons, it's also extremely weak without boosts, which is worth keeping in mind when using this team. It usually comes out last to finish off weakened teams or at the very beginning against Pokemon that give it set up opportunities, with the primary target being Gargnacl. Hariyama was the most common bring alongside Roaring Moon and Corviknight, even against non-Garganacl teams due to its ability to stably deal with the offensive ruin Pokemon.

This is the slot that gave our team its "reputation" in its initial stages, as it made use of a very rare Pokemon (that is usually confined to slower paced teams in the first place) in a way that I would consider to be fairly unique. The idea behind Jumpluff is that it is a Grass-type Pokemon with a Fissure immunity, which allows it to reliably deal with standard Dondozo sets. The fact that it's a Grass-type comes in handy when dealing with Leech Seed users like Wo-Chien and Poison Heal Breloom. Last but not least, Chlorophyll with Torkoal support lets it outspeed even Booster Energy Iron Bundle, a Pokemon that I thought was very annoying to deal with the last time I used a Sun team in this generation. It was really fun to use, but it gradually fell off as the team's reliance on its Sun mode dropped throughout the season. It would still come out every now and then and pull its weight in specific match ups, but Corviknight and Hariyama were usually enough to deal with Iron Bundle on this team.

This is where Breloom comes in. Towards the end of the season, I started brainstorming for potential picks capable of fulfilling a similar role to Jumpluff on this team. I knew it had to be a Grass-type capable of dealing with opposing Wo-Chien reliably. I also realized that the team's primary mode was a lot weaker to Dondozo than originally envisioned, especially sets that used Avalanche, Body Press or even Curse. Even though it has to risk getting hit by Fissure sometimes, Poison Heal Breloom is capable of single handily ending (and discouraging) Yawn loops. Besides that, this set opens up a whole new layer of complexity to the team with its ability to win through timer in favorable situations, which theoretically minimizes risks in situations where this possibility exists, which is very welcome on a ladder team. Toxic is used over Spore to nail opposing Grass-type Pokemon, but it also chains nicely into Pressure Corviknight against offensive threats that can not be dealt with through timer shenanigans.

Jumpluff was dead last in selection on that variant of the team, while Breloom would have been around fourth at the end of the season, but I probably bruteforced it a lot more than I should have in order to get a better grasp of whether it was an adequate replacement to Jumpluff (which all things considered it definitely was, although part of me is a bit sad I didn't try Rotom-Mow in this slot).



Need no introduction, which is probably why I subconsciously decided to talk about it last. When the team's primary mode was sun, the idea was to always have the fastest Flutter Mane. I liked Focus Sash a lot in sun back in Series 2, but Ting-Lu's presence made it hard to get away with a set like that, which is why we adopted this philosophy instead. Assault Vest was also considered after Sandy Shocks was benched, but Speed was prioritized due to the fact that it also brings some stability against Choice Band Chien-Pao. Aside from that it does Flutter Mane things: hit hard with STABs and attempt to snipe Iron Moth with Psyshock (this never actually works). Perish Song was a godsend against Espathra cheese and Moody set ups, which for what it's worth were pretty rare, but knowing that I was stable into them was a very comforting feeling that made laddering feel a lot better.

Flutter Mane was actually not selected often despite its strength, like I'd say it's more or less on par with Torkoal in actual usage. Maybe this was just me being an idiot, but I personally felt that Mimikyu and Scizor were getting picked too much against this team for Flutter Mane to reliably do its job. It was great when it didn't meet those 2, but those situations were somewhat rare last season.

Scary Pokemon a.k.a. Threat List

- Playable but set versatility made it very scary to face. Its secondary STAB is a lot harder than Chi-Yu's to switch into and it can even pack Dazzling Gleam. It's also unreasonably good into our Hariyama set, but without set information Hariyama can actually force it out (or at least force it to Tera), which has definitely gotten us wins this season.

- Gets boosted by Sun and Focus Sash variants can pretty much always trade favorably into this team even without sun. Throwing Flutter Mane into it and chaining that into Roaring Moon while accepting that it's going to be a 3v2/2v2 is usually the proper course of action, but outlier sets (e.g., Scarf and Tera + Assault Vest) can be very annoying to deal with a gameplan like this.

- Doesn't get boosted by Sun but it's too fat and does too much damage. Playable if Breloom gets a Toxic on it or if something else uses Tera before it comes out, but it tends to force sacs and has a favorable match up into both Corviknight and Roaring Moon, making it a very annoying Pokemon to meet.

I'll probably drop my thoughts on Season 6 as a whole in a different post that I'm planning to make, but overall it was a great experience and I'm glad that I can still flourish in an environment that not a lot of people are enjoying (rightfully so in all honesty). I feel like I've learned a lot about the format and I got to face a lot of very good players in my games, so I'm looking forward to improve further and hopefully break past the 2000s barrier.

This is a basic offense team that I used during June. Peaked at 1974 Elo, finished at 1908 Elo (406th place for the season). It could probably stand to be refined a bit, but it is nevertheless fairly effective, although like any team it can struggle against some specific combinations. A decent if somewhat unsophisticated take on offense in Reg C. Best regards.
