Immediately, we can see that Granny Pie holds a slight advantage; Cupra's higher HP and access to Will-O-Wisp give it considerable staying power against the physically oriented Jangmo-O. However, Jangmo-O packs higher BAP on its STAB moves and a nice set of tricks, evening things out. The first round should be particularly important this match.

Despite a steadily increasing chance of hax, both battlers' plans succeed this round. Cupra manages to burn its opponent and take an early lead in the damage race, but Jangmo-O keeps screeching until Cupra is woefully disoriented, then closes in with a powerful Dragon Claw. The Dragon-type can now outdamage Cupra, but the HP gap makes its victory harder to achieve.

Jangmo-O opens its mouth to shriek again, causing Cupra to flinch in anticipation and brace itself. However, the sound coming from the young dragon is no mere taunting yell, but rather a ferocious war cry heralding a mighty charge. The surprised Cupra can't react fast enough to dodge the attack and feels the full force of Jangmo-O's armored body smashing into it. Thankfully, Cupra's tough metal elytra protect it from any serious injury and allow it enough time to counter by headbutting Jangmo-O, who recoils slightly. Nevertheless, a raging dragon is too much for the tiny bug to handle in prolonged combat, and Jangno-O secures Elevator Music a victory by the end of the round.
