[OVERVIEW]
Bellossom functions as one of PU's best specially defensive Pokemon. With a great support movepool, good bulk, and reliable recovery, it is able to check a wide variety of special attackers like Misdreavus, Mantine, Ampharos, and Mr. Mime. Bellossom sets itself apart from the other Grass-types in the tier by using its superior Special Defense to check Water-types like Golduck as well, while the other big Grass-type, Tangela, can't do so. However, Bellossom's lower Defense means physical attackers like Rhydon, Relicanth, Zangoose, and Purugly can still break through it.

[SET]
name: Specially Defensive
move 1: Leaf Blade / Energy Ball
move 2: Sleep Powder
move 3: Leech Seed / Stun Spore
move 4: Synthesis
item: Leftovers
ability: Chlorophyll
nature: Careful / Calm
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
Leaf Blade is the chosen attacking move for Bellossom, as it allows it to beat most Calm Mind users that may try and set up on it, most notably Misdreavus, Golduck, and Substitute Mantine. Energy Ball is another option, as it uses Bellossom's slightly higher Special Attack to get OHKOs on Rhydon and Relicanth. Sleep Powder is one of Bellossom's most useful moves, as it allows it to essentially eliminate one of its switchi-ns, notably Victreebel. Leech Seed helps provide Bellossom with more passive recovery, while Stun Spore can be used to help cripple foes like Murkrow that might otherwise switch into Bellossom freely. Bellossom's ability to check most Water-types makes it a great partner for Pokemon like Magmar, Rhydon, and Relicanth that normally are threatened by or have trouble breaking through bulky Water-types like Quagsire and Mantine. Rhydon and Relicanth also deal with Muk very easily, which Bellossom greatly appreciates. Monferno is an option to help with opposing Grass-types like Tangela and Victreebel that Bellossom can't damage well as well as providing U-turn support. Bellossom also appreciates Water-type teammates like Politoed and Mantine to switch into Fire-type moves from opposing Magmar.

wanted to post this and then immediately comment so I can get an opinion from QC
Is Energy Ball even worth a slash anymore? It was the staple offensive move on this set for so long but with more recent trends, I can't remember the last time I thought EBall>Leaf Blade on my Bellossoms. Can leave it in as a mention as well, just wanted to bring up my opinion on it

Bellossom functions as one of PU's most splashable specially defensive Pokemon. With a great support movepool, pretty good bulk, and reliable recovery, it helps to check a wide variety of special attackers like Misdreavus, Mantine, Ampharos, and Mr. Mime. A pure Grass-typing is nothing too special but does give Bellossom handy resistances, especially to common Water- and Ground-type attacks. Its lower physical defense does leave Bellossom threatened by things like Stone Edge from Rhydon and Head Smash from Relicanth, as well as other strong physical attackers like? i think this might be better constructed as like "bello can be muscled past by phys like x and y despite grass". Bellossom also faces some slight competition as a Grass-type from the likes of Victreebel and Tangela, though the former is much more offensively oriented and the latter is much frailer on the special side, helping to set Bellossom apart i think bello is v v good and there isn't rly a point to comparing it to the other grasses when they're different roles anyway, u can use this as a point above as a pro (beats golduck while tangela cant etc) don't think u need to compare to vic at all though.

[SET COMMENTS]
Leaf Blade is the optimal attacking move for Bellossom, as it allows it to beat most Calm Mind users that may try and set up on it throw in a missy mention, as well as notably breaking Mantine's Substitute. Energy Ball can be considered though, as it uses Bellossom's slightly higher Special Attack to deal more damage to most other Pokemon note the OHKOs on rhydon and reli, that's the biggest draw. Leech Seed helps provide Bellossom with more passive recovery, while Stun Spore can be used to help cripple foes like Muk or Murkrow that might otherwise switch into Bellossom freely. Toxic can also be run over Leech Seed for more long-term damage, and Hidden Power Fire could also be run as coverage, though Bellossom's generally weak attacking stats leave it better suited for support. Bellossom's ability to check most Water-types makes it a great partner for Pokemon like Magmar, Rhydon, and Relicanth that normally are threatened by or have trouble breaking through bulky Water-types like Quagsire and Mantine. Magmar in particular also helps with opposing Grass-types like Tangela and Victreebel that Bellossom can't damage well, and also helps to form a Fire-Water-Grass core i think monferno mention> magmar here/sentence before since all magmar are running hp grass anyway. Bellossom also appreciates teammates like the aforementioned three as well as Water-types like Politoed and Mantine since they are solid Fire-type resistances with Politoed and Magmar also being notable Ice-type resistances this is kinda just phrased weirdly and honestly could just be removed/replaced w smth along the lines of water resist fire since we don't have super relevant ices n its more of waters w beam coverage.

talked about in QC and energy ball gonna stay as a slash since OHKOing Rhydon and Reli is p big, u can ask that kinda q over discord for a faster response tho

updated, also threw in a mention about teammates that deal with Muk bc I'm not sure how I didn't say anything about that the first time?

However, Bellossom's lower Defense means physical attackers like Rhydon, Relicanth, and Gabite can still break through it, despite its Grass-typing. (i like that this highlights just how subpar the defense is by showing grounds that beat it, but showing mainly grounds is a bit odd. i would add stuff like purugly/zangoose as mons that tangela can beat but bellossom cant.)

Leaf Blade is the optimal chosen (whether or not leaf blade is the optimal choice comes down to team comp, so i dont think having the word in the analysis is wise) attacking move for Bellossom, as it allows it to beat most Calm Mind users that may try and set up on it, most notably Misdreavus, Golduck, and Substitute Mantine. Energy Ball can be considered though is another option, as it uses Bellossom's slightly higher Special Attack to deal more damage on average, as well as getting OHKOs on Rhydon and Relicanth (fun fact leaf blade is slightly stronger. but not enough to really matter or factor into the decision. they r basically the same). Leech Seed helps provide Bellossom with more passive recovery, while Stun Spore can be used to help cripple foes like Muk or Murkrow that might otherwise switch into Bellossom freely. Bellossom's ability to check most Water-types makes it a great partner for Pokemon like Magmar, Rhydon, and Relicanth that normally are threatened by or have trouble breaking through bulky Water-types like Quagsire and Mantine. i also would like a line about how handy sleep powder is for "eliminating" a potential bellossom switchin while specifically highlighting victreebel to show that sleep powder does in fact work on those...but it is fine either way so qc 2/2
