SV Ubers Black Country, NDW Road (Peaked #6, 1774 ELO, 85.4% GXE)

(Click on the mini-sprites for the team)

Writing this right after the world's most god awful ladder session because I can't sleep and this white monster is somehow still in my system. Anyways, been playing Ubers for a while now, and I feel the meta has really stagnated and become stale for me as someone who was new to the tier a few months ago (and sort of still is), which sucks for me because I need YouTube to pay my AdSense check to feed my family of 20 (shameless plug go subscribe). In my search to make the tier more exciting for myself, I've run a vast amount of shitmons in the tier (in a series I dubbed "Unviable To The Top", again go subscribe), sort of just throwing stuff on the wall to see what sticks. Well, in my opinion, with the proper support, Necrozma-Dawn-Wings stuck, which is the basis of this team. Also, heavy copium, but the GXE for this run kind of sucked just because I run some god awful shit on this alt, and I couldn't be asked to ladder from scratch again. Also really wish I could have gone for a better peak, but I frankly do not have the patience to wait for 5 minute queues just to gain 6-8 ELO, only to get lucked and lose 30 ELO and be back at square one -- so basically I'm ass. On to the album for this RMT, good GOD is Black Country, New Road great, especially Ants From Up There. If you haven't listened to this album already, for the love of all that is holy in this world listen to it. Initial favourite from the album was The Place Where He Inserted The Blade, but as of right now, Good Will Hunting is my favourite, give it a listen!

Introduction

As I already mentioned, the basis for this team is to support Dawn-Wings with a few tools. Firstly, Dawn-Wings thrives with T-Spikes up, it enjoys a teammate that can lure out and chip Ting-Lu and other Darks, and to support it with some sort of hazard lead. This can all be compacted into my favourite team archetype this generation, Glimmora Anti-HO. Glimmora Anti-HO is a team style I am super familar with, given it got me reqs (and DonBoneJones) for both the Miraidon and Basculegion suspect tests, and I ran it when I played during ULT (couldn't qual because I'm ass and final exams). Anyways, all this support can be summed up by the fact that the number one thing stopping Dawn-Wings from being a bigger threat is Ting-Lu, and to a lesser extent defensive Arceus forms. As a note, I've decided to omit the "Building Process" Section from this RMT, since building for Glimmora Anti-HO has the same six with small variance (those being :glimmora:-:koraidon:-:miraidon:-:kingambit:-:arceus:/:arceus_ground:-:necrozma-dusk-mane:/:zacian-crowned:)

Team Preview

:sv/glimmora:
Concorde @ :Focus Sash:
Ability: Toxic Debris
Tera Type: Ghost
76 Def / 180 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Mortal Spin
- Mud Shot
- Dazzling Gleam
- Spikes

This Glimmora set, I remember thinking was the funniest thing ever when I was first shown it by Oreo, but I've come to realize this is genuinely the best Glimmora set for the tier, and is all it really needs. Doubling up on Stealth Rocks and Spikes is usually overkill at times, and in most games getting a single Spike or T-Spike up with some disruption means Glimmora has done it's job. Mortal Spin is for Hazard Removal, Mud Shot is used to lower the speed so that Glimmora always wins 1v1, take for example a Miraidon versus Glimmora lead. The play for the Glimmora player is to always Mud Shot turn 1, since it is completely lossless for them. The Miraidon player either Taunts, and now the Glimmora is faster and can threaten whatever it wants and outlasts Taunt with Focus Sash, or the Miraidon attacks and the Glimmora is faster the next turn and can get up a Spike. Dazzling Gleam is there for the random greedy Koraidon Scale Shot lead trying to catch Glimmora. Lastly, this spread is a little different, and although it doesn't "do" anything specific, it's min-maxed the odds of Glimmora winning the 1v1 versus Scale Shot Koraidon. A Scale Shot 5 Hit has a 43.8% chance of killing, and Dazzling Gleam has a 87.5% chance to OHKO Koraidon. There is no 100% winning this 1v1, there will always be some amount of probability involved but this ensures its in favour of the Glimmora user.
- Never Tera this guy. Between 2 suspect test runs, laddering for ULT, and laddering right now, I have yet to even once think about exhausting Tera on Glimmora.
- 99.99% of the time the Turn 1 play is to Mud Shot with Glimmora, so don't get greedy, and think the turns through.
- In the Glimmora mirror, if both are running Mud Shot, always preserve your Glimmora so you can get rid of T-Spikes later, since T-Spikes is devastating for this team. The same goes versus Eternatus teams.

:sv/koraidon:
Basketball Shoes @ :Loaded Dice:
Ability: Orichalcum Pulse
Tera Type: Ghost
252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Low Kick
- Scale Shot
- Flare Blitz
- Swords Dance

Although this team could benefit from the speed control of a Scarf Koraidon, the power of Scale Shot Koraidon is still unmatched. Before this ladder run, I was truly a disbeliever in Adamant Koraidon, however my opinion has vehemently changed in that regard (shoutout Taka for this to be honest I didn't even know Adamant Koraidon was used before this), because this thing outputs just a funny amount of damage. I don't think I can say anything that hasn't been said, Tera Ghost is needed as a means to check E-Killer, Close Combat could be used over Low Kick if you preferred. Adamant also matches up well into opposing Glimmora, since it has a favorable chance to OHKO 0/0 Glimmora, and in certain match ups is the ideal lead.
- Although Koraidon is generally meant to clean late game, don't be afraid to use this set more as a breaker as opposed to a sweeper. There is already enough sweeping potential on the team, so using this Koraidon as a means to physically break the opponent is usually much better.
- Swords Dance on Gliscor Protect turns if your real and baller.

:sv/miraidon:
Chaos Space Marine @ :Heavy-Duty Boots:
Ability: Hadron Engine
Tera Type: Fairy
252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Electro Drift
- Draco Meteor
- U-turn
- Taunt

Choosing this Miraidon set was contentious in my mind, since I found testing this team, I generally preferred the power output of Life Orb Calm Mind + Taunt Miraidon, since it did a solid 50 to the common Ting-Lu switch in, and made the Dawn-Wings generally much more threatening. However, alongside Adamant Koraidon, it seemed really overkill, and the utility of the Taunt + Pivot set is unmatched, and has enough breaking power alone. Again, nothing new to say here, Tera Fairy is nice for the Miraidon Mirror and can block Koraidon from getting the Scale Shot boosts, I found Tera Dragon was never needed and doubling up on Tera Ghost users when the team has no Fairy types is redundant.
- Ban it, thats my note.

:sv/arceus:
Ants From Up There @ :Leftovers:
Ability: Multitype
Tera Type: Fire
196 HP / 140 Atk / 36 Def / 136 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Extreme Speed
- Earthquake
- Bulk Up
- Taunt

The quintessential BU-Killer set. I never really laddered with BU-Killer much, but into teams relying on the likes of Ho-Oh and Arceus-Fairy (without Dragon Tail), BU-Killer can just absolutely smash the match up. Shadow Claw on BU-Killer usually isn't great, since Shadow Claw only really works compounded with Tera Ghost, so i went with the coverage of Earthquake. For the EV Spread, I am just physically bulky enough to live one Zacian-Crowned Close Combat from full -- which is important considering how awful Zacian is for this team --, am faster than most Defensive and Offensive Arceus forms to get the jump with Taunt, and dumped the rest into attack with an Adamant nature. Catching the likes of Physically Defensive Dragon Dance Necrozma, Ho-Oh, or Arceus-Fairy with this set can -- played right -- usually just outright win the game.
- Tera Ghost from Miraidon or Koraidon is usually really obvious, so don't play like a drone like me, and don't click Extreme Speed into the fair and balanced Tera Ghost over and over again.
- With Tera you wall Ho-Oh for life with Taunt and Bulk Up, don't be afraid to just abuse Ho-Oh. However, do be wary of Dragon Tail Defensive Arceus forms, since that is the only form of phasing that really hinders this set.
- Make sure to keep T-Spikes off, especially if BU-Killer smashes the match up. A T-Spike up is a death sentence, so keep them off with your own Glimmora at all costs.

:sv/kingambit:
Good Will Hunting @ :Air Balloon:
Ability: Supreme Overlord
Tera Type: Flying
248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Def
Adamant Nature
- Kowtow Cleave
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head
- Swords Dance

Nothing much to say for this Kingambit, I ended up going with a bulky set which I was recommended to by OreoSpeedruns, and I'm happy I did since this thing lives an unreasonable amount of hits from full. The speed is also inconsequential, it's only really good with Tera Fire, and Tera Fire isn't going to be needed since everything Kingambit would set up on with Tera Fire BU-Killer just does it better. So, Tera Flying was used instead to alleviate the Zacian weakness a little more, however Tera Fire could still be used just fine. Air Balloon also gives Kingambit invaluable switch in oppurtunities versus Arceus Ground, and can fully wall some Necrozma-Dusk-Mane sets and can be good into Calyrex-Ice and certain Arceus as well.
- Loves to abuse Necrozma-Dawn-Wing's Trick Room, so look for certain win cons through that.
- Kingambit often gets blanked by Koraidon, so Sucker Punching for chip into Koraidon isn't always the worst play, Kingambit isn't always the greatest in all match ups, and without Black Glasses isn't as much a late game cleaner as it is another breaker.

:sv/necrozma-dawn-wings:
Snow Globes @ :Power Herb:
Ability: Prism Armor
Tera Type: Steel
248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpA
Quiet Nature
- Psyshock
- Moongeist Beam
- Meteor Beam
- Trick Room

The man, the myth, the legend. Truly, that guy. Anyways, I love this set for a few reasons, but the greatest is that it absolutely murks stall, with Psyshock as a tech usually being unexpected, and can catch the unsuspecting Blissey or Clodsire fully off gaurd. Power Herb Meteor Beam also allows us to nuke Ho-Oh, and boost our special attack. It also OHKOs Calyrex-Ice through Tera Fire, which is always satisfying. Tera Steel is used for two main reasons. First, to fully act as a Anti-Trick Room tech, Dawn-Wings needs to resist the most prominent Trick Room's abuser STAB, that being Glacial Lance from Calyrex-Ice. The resistance is needed since Calyrex at +1 threatens with a high roll KO, a roll that I have lost to one too many times. The other reason is to better patch up the Zacian weakness. Although, during testing with this team Tera Water was used for the same purpose and to catch Flare Blitz locked Koraidon, I think Tera Steel will work better overall, especially for the tricky Zacian match up.
- This set is thoroughly walled by Ting-Lu, which is why it's so important to play with this team with the idea to lure out and remove Ting-Lu.
- Although it can tank it, try not to get Power Herb knocked off by Gliscor, since the Special Attack boost is often times needed for certain KOs.

Threats

:sv/zacian-crowned:
Zacian-Crowned

Although some haters would say this team is really weak to Zacian and that this weakness is easily patched up by replacing the star, Necrozma-Dawn-Wings, with their awkward left cousin Dusk-Mane, I simply disagree (for the bit, in a serious vain, Dusk-Mane might be better here). Using Dawn-Wings just means we need to play very carefully around Zacian and sus out it's set quickly. The best play is usually to sink Dawn-Wings Tera getting up Trick Room, getitng chip with Moongeist Beam then revenging with Kingambit. However, simply using Kingambit Tera can also work depending on the range of HP Zacian is at. Tera with BU-Killer also works, as Earthquake into E-Speed after a Close Combat drop should always clean up.

:sv/eternatus::sv/glimmora:
Toxic Spikes

When playing with this team in the T-Spike mirror, it's vital to play in a way where you can keep T-Spikes off, even if that means getting no mileage from Glimmora. With T-Spikes, half of our sweepers are more or less crippled, so it's very important to play premptively with your own grounded Poison Glimmora, and keeping opponent T-Spikes at all costs

:sv/arceus-water::sv/giratina-origin::sv/arceus-fairy:
Giratina-Origin / Phasing

The Giratina match up is a little tough, but I find the best way to play it is to play aggresively with Miraidon (less so Koraidon since it's threatened by Wisp), and try to force out a Tera. Tera-ing your own Dawn-Wings can also work, but I found playing aggresively with the bikes and forcing out Tera is the best way to play around it. The second threat is most Defensive Arceus Forms with Dragon Tail. In those match ups, I think it's important to keep Ting-Lu's hazard's off with Miraidon Taunt (since most Arc Balance has TIng-Lu), and to try to force a T-Spike off of a Scarf Koraidon U-Turn (this sounds super specific, but is usally the game plan into these types of teams). It's really important to force a T-Spike into Defensive Arc Teams, since it allows us to break more easily with Koraidon and Miraidon when the arceus is crippled by Spike. The toughest match up is into Eternatus + Defensive Arceus + Ting-Lu, since they can pretty reliabley get up their own hazards, get their own T-Spikes up and keep T-Spike off, and into these teams playing really aggresive with BU-Killer, Scale Korai to force no free turns and Miraidon is usually the play.

Conclusion

This team was fun and is probably the most creative I'll be able to get within reason with this current meta. The state of ladder and this tier is honestly depressing, and how dominant HO is and how games can feel like coin flips is really frustrating, but I'm holding out hope that there is enough community action for some sort of change in the tier post UPL and WCOP to breathe some life back into the tier, and make it something enjoyable people genuinely want to play, not something we have to play just because it happens to be current gen. Shoutouts to Oreo for helping me building the team and testing, shoutout Don for sitting in call with me for 4 hours as I went on the worst ladder run of my life, and shoutout Black Country, New Road for making banger music. Best of luck laddering with the team everyone!

here before all the clout

On a serious note, fire team and I'm definitely happy to have helped out with its genesis!
Would just recommend Tera Water > Tera Steel on NDW tbh, the Zac weakness is a bit dire and you can mitigate it with Water
