Break This Team: The Pet Mod
Lots of the official metagame subforms host a Break This Team thread where each week or so, a team will be posted and people will submit 2-Pokemon cores that can take on the entire team (example). That's what this Pet Mod will be, but with a little twist.

It'll go like this: a team will be posted and people can submit two-Fakemon cores that can beat the entire team.

Rules:
  • This Pet Mod will be an extension of official metagames, meaning normal Pokemon and the added Fakemon are usable. We'll start with Gen 8 OU, and once we get bored of that we have added a sufficient amount of Fakemon, we can move on to the lower tiers. We can even go back to tiers and break teams from our adjusted meta.
  • You can (and are encouraged to) add however many abilities and moves you'd like, but your submissions must have at least one set that can beat the team. This is not a counter teaming competition, so your submissions must have viable sets.
  • Keep the power level around whatever tier the team is from.
  • No custom elements yet. We'll have slates for those.
  • You may submit up to 3 cores
  • In addition to your submission, you must also prove your submission beats the team using calcs and other forms of reasoning. You don't have to write an essay, but your justification should be beyond "I think these 'mons work well together and break the team".

Teams:
  • Teams can come from anywhere; they can be sample teams, teams from team dumps, or your very own teams!
  • If you would like to submit a team to break, feel free to DM me a PokePaste and it'll be included eventually (first come, first serve). Just make sure the team is well-tested.
  • You can submit teams with our added Fakemon, but I would recommend doing that later when we can playtest the new Fakemon.
Voting:
  • You may vote for up to 3 submission. This will be a ranked vote. You get one self-vote, as long as its not the one in first place.
  • The 2 submission with the most votes will be added to the metagame.
  • To incentivize balance, the two cores with the lowest average BST will receive one bonus vote (Don't do anything crazy like base 1 SpAtk though).

Okay, let's start this thing up!

Here's a sample OU team featuring some of the biggest faces in OU right now: Pheromosa, Slowbro, and Clefable. How will you endure the fearsome breaker + Future Sight core, brace the speed of Sand Rush Excadrill, and break past the unbreakable Clefable (given this is a Life Orb variant but still)? Submissions begin now and will last until Thursday, December 17, 9:00 AM PST. Have fun!

This one was really hard thb, but I think I nailed it. I was thinking about a check to Sand Rush Excadrill and a Levitating Fire-type was an obvious choice and Levitate would cover it's Ground weakness. It needed to resist Close Combat as well. I gave it the Ghost, but this meant that Tyranitar hits it super effectively. So I gave it the Fairy-typing. Iron Head from Drill still doesn't get 2HKOed with this investment, And Pheromosa is also walled, but after zxgzxg and Scoopapa pointed out to me that, Ttar can toxic it and Moltres can stall it. So I gave it Poison Heal, but now it's weak to Ground, so I changed it to Water and it almost destroys this team. However annoying Clef stands in the way with its Thunder, so I removed some of my mons fire power and gave it more SpDef. With this spread it isn't 3HKO by Thunder after SR and Poison Heal recovery and since the 12 Spe allows it to outrun Clef, it can set-up and outheal the Thunders and since Thunder isn't 100% accurate you have higher chances to survive.

Status: Aromatherapy, Bulk Up, Growth, Rock Polish, Spiky Shield, Wide Guard
Important Note: In addition to any other move not explicitly specified above, Stone Edge is also a deliberate omission as to lower its power with Guts sets.

This seems a lot shakier than it actually is. Depending on what your foe leads with, you have a few options forward.

Pheromosa lead: Spiky Shield once to rack up chip and activate Guts, click Accelerock. 252+ Atk Guts Arboulder Accelerock vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Pheromosa: 250-295 (88.3 - 104.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Spiky Shield. If they switch out to something else, you win.

Tyranitar lead: Click Bulk Up once. After this and Guts you should easily OHKO with Horn Leech. If they send in Excadrill afterwards you take one Iron Head after setting up and +1 252+ Atk Guts Arboulder Horn Leech vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Excadrill: 492-580 (136.2 - 160.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Excadrill lead: Click Bulk Up and KO the next turn.

Clefable lead: Click Bulk Up. It's a 2HKO with Horn Leech after, but regardless of whether the opposing Clef uses CM or clicks Moonblast twice you can endure it because of the recovery.

Moltres or Slowbro lead: Total set-up bait with no serious threat to you.

The worst thing you have to worry about is Tyranitar potentially racking up Toxic damage, but otherwise it's pretty foolproof. Against the wider meta it struggles with Urshifu, Buzzwole, Magearna, Melmetal and Garchomp.

Moves:
Physical: Body Press
Special: Earth Power, Meteor Beam, Power Gem, Moonblast,
Status: Stealth Rock, Cosmic Power, Shore Up
Description: Physical wall and counter-offense wincon. It'd accomplish defeaing the team even better if it was Water/Ground, but it'd probably be broken and wouldn't really fit the flavor at that point.
Set:
Regolord @ Kee Berry
Ability: Shield Dust
EVs: 252 HP / 244 Def / 16 Spe, Bold
- Cosmic Power
- Body Press
- Shore Up
- Meteor Beam

Pheromosa: Kee Berry boosts Def on the first hit of Triple Axel, then you use Cosmic Power to get a second boost. Use Shore Up / Cosmic Power until ready to kill Phero while staying healthy.
Slowbro: Shield Dust prevents Scald burns, but this is the scariest matchup because you need a lot of turns. A crit won't OHKO, though. +3 Meteor Beam into +6 Body Press kills (lol)
Clefable: +6 Body Press 2HKOes, and you Speed creep it so this is in your favor. Just set up alongside it. Mix up moves in case it wants to spam Softboiled to stall your Body Press PP.
Excadrill: Set up Cosmic Power once, as you can live +2 Earthquake into banded Triple Axel, factoring in Kee Berry activation.
Tyranitar: Body Press it.
Moltres: Set up on it before you kill it.

You could still lose if you get outpredicted. Getting Burned by Moltres on a switch will cause you to lose to Clefable, while Tyranitar coming in on a Meteor Beam will allow it to Toxic you. However, this requires prediction, hax, and/or hard switching into things that will get OHKOed if they predict wrong, so it's not a surefire thing.

Aquamaton @ Life Orb
Ability: Skill Link
EVs: 128 HP / 124 Atk / 252 SpA
Rash Nature
- Water Shuriken
- Flash Cannon
- Thunderbolt
- Low Kick
This Pokemon lives and dies by Water Shuriken. As a 75 Base Power priority option via Skill Link, this move is able to easily deal with Pheromosa, Excadrill, and Moltres without breaking a sweat.

252+ SpA Life Orb Aquamaton Water Shuriken (15 BP) (5 hits) vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Pheromosa: 410-485 (144.8 - 171.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Life Orb Aquamaton Water Shuriken (15 BP) (5 hits) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Excadrill: 505-600 (139.8 - 166.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Life Orb Aquamaton Water Shuriken (15 BP) (5 hits) vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Moltres: 405-480 (105.7 - 125.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

The remaining three Pokemon are all dealt with via one of Aquamaton's other moves, and it is fast enough to outspeed them to be able to get all of these off before the foe can make a move.

124 Atk Life Orb Aquamaton Low Kick (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 416-494 (102.9 - 122.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Life Orb Aquamaton Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Slowbro: 328-387 (83.2 - 98.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Life Orb Aquamaton Flash Cannon vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Clefable: 398-471 (101 - 119.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Slowbro may live one attack, but it can never hard switch in on anything but Low Kick and stay in the next turn, and in return it does relatively little damage:

4 SpA Slowbro Future Sight vs. 128 HP / 0 SpD Aquamaton: 98-116 (31.3 - 37%) -- 78.2% chance to 3HKO
4 SpA Slowbro Scald vs. 128 HP / 0 SpD Aquamaton: 66-78 (21 - 24.9%) -- guaranteed 5HKO

Aquamaton also cannot be chipped by Sand, meaning that the team can't chip at it with Tyranitar's Sand Stream. The best bet the team has for victory that isn't dependent on reads is getting a burn with either Slowbro's Scald or Moltres' Flame Body, then revenging with TTar, but both of those are RNG dependent, and the latter requires the direct switch from Tyranitar to Moltres predicting a Low Kick, with the former at enough HP to take a Water Shuriken.

I'm glad to see there's a lot of activity in this mod! I just have a few quick words about some of these subs:
Fakemon Name: Stormpedo
Typing: Water
Ability: Primordial Sea, (Speed Boost)
Stats: 48/70/50/135/50/152 (505)
Moves: Hydro Pump, Thunder, Surf, Scald, Aqua Jet, Liquidation, Thunderbolt, Thunder Wave, Waterfall Flip Turn Agility
Description: This torpedo-like pokemon is always surrounded by a typhoon. It flies around at incredible speeds and ravages anything standing in its way. Despite its immense power, Stormpedo itself is very small and weak. If you can get through the typhoon surrounding it, it is easily defeated. It's also not very dangerous without its typhoon. When it reaches land, everything there gets destroyed. Nothing is left except the typhoon.
Stormpedo @ Life Orb
Ability: Primordial Sea
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Thunder
- Flip Turn
- Thunder Wave
80% accuracy moves will never miss and life orb hydro pump one-shots everything but slowbro which gets nearly one-shotted by thunder. Slowbro gets 2hkoed by hydro pump anyways so predicts to stall life orb damage don't work either. So yeah basically it just kills everything.
This will probably get vetoed but I'll at least say that it struggles against common grass types, dragon types, special walls and priority and has an awful movepool.
As you mentioned, this sub is pretty broken. I'd probably be a bit more comfortable if you removed Flip Turn, but even then it's still a bit strong.

EDIT: I FUCKED UP THE CALCS. Gonna change some things.

EDIT 2: Changes made.
This thing is also a tad bit too strong. It's got a decent speed tier and can bop anything faster than it, like Cinderace and Pheromosa, with Accelerock. Additionally, it can blow everything out of the water with Guts boosted attacks and wide coverage. I recommend removing Thunder Punch and Swords Dance.

There are some other subs that can be defeated by a certain sequence of plays.

Your Mantareign can be left in range of Pheromosa's Triple Axel by Excadrill. It's very close so it's probably tweakable, but this sequence will almost always work:
Tyranitar sets sand turn 1.
Switch to Slowbro. (4 turns left)
Teleport to Excadrill (3 turns left)
Swords Dance (2 Turns left)
Mantareign recovers to full with Drain Punch, then takes Life Orb and Sand damage -16.25%
Rock Slide deals 42% minimum, Excadrill most likely faints.
Mantareign recovers about 31% maximum and takes Life Orb recoil. Maximum HP at this point is 62%
Pheromosa comes in. Banded Triple Axel does 51% to 61%.

There is a very small chance for Mantareign to live (if my calculations are right) the attack plus Life Orb, however that would require a minimum Rock Slide roll or miss, no flinch, successfully 2HKO Excadrill (82.4% chance), low first turn Drain Punch roll to maximize second turn recovery (which lowers the chance of second hit KOing) and a minimum Triple Axel roll, so while it's close, I think this is a pretty good way for the team to kill or force out Mantareign.

ViZar's Infairy gets Toxiced by Tyranitar and then stalled out by Moltres.

Yung Dramps' Arboulder loses to the following sequence
-Clefable lead can leave Arboulder in a weakened state. Spam Moonblast and only stop if Arboulder leads with Spiky Shield. In that case, Softboiled until it sets up or until you are weak enough that the killing blow won't recover much. Moonblast does 44% minimum, and Arboulder takes Burn damage. Maximum recovery if Clefable is at 25% (from a minimum +1 Guts roll) is around 15%
-Send out Tyranitar to set up Sand.
-Hard Motres to prevent Horn Leech Recovery. Spam Flamethrower.
-Excadrill Iron Head does 50% miminum if Arboulder got +2 Defense. If it took two Moonblasts from Clefable to set up +2, then it will be at around 50%. If it Horn Leeches the Moltres switch it will gain 12%, then lose 12% over two turns as it faints Moltres. If it sets up +3 it will be down at 38% and still get KOed.

Feel free to check my math as I rounded some things, and I may have missed some possible plays.

One more thing:
In order to provide flexibility with stats and EVs, any move with at least a 95% chance to do whatever intended (OHKO, 2HKO, etc) will count as just that
Because there are only 16 possible damage rolls, and 15/16 is less than 95%, this can't actually happen. Considering the "80% accurate moves always hit" rule, maybe the rule should "80% chance factoring in all rng". It's a little harder to determine but not exactly rocket science (turn % into decimal and multiply chances of what you need to have happen together). Otherwise just call it 93% instead.

Thanks for the advice! I've adjusted my sub and changed the rule for rolls to 80% or higher. If anyone else sees any problems with anyone else's subs, feel free to point it out here or in the Pet Mod Discord!

I think its unrealistic for a single mon to beat 6a well built team all by itself, even with the best of intentions. Usually Break This Team in OU relies on cores? Idk if making a core of Fakemon would be what you are looking for. Otherwise ig we rely on forcing niche moves on mons that would realistically never run them in standard play (Keegan's Low Kick user is a prime example.). Adjusting it to 2 or 3 mon cores would lead to much more flexible and creative mons.

As of now, we have plenty submissions that pretty reliably beat the team, and I see no problem if these Fakemon cannot check all 6 of these Pokemon realistically. My intention never really was for people to create viable sets to break the team (this is a counter-teaming competition, after all). In a way, allowing these wacky sets is one way to enforce balance. For example, my submission relies on beating Tyranitar and Excadrill with Drain Punch but is a special attacker, meaning it realistically will not check Tyranitar and Excadrill. You are a former Pet Mod Moderator and are more familiar with these kind of things than I am, and I hold your opinion in high regard. However, I feel like using cores would be too easy and less interesting.

Despite my stance, I've created a poll to see how this Mod should continue. Please vote so I can gauge the community opinion accurately. I will also discuss this with the rest of the council members.

EDIT: For the poll, you have the option to chose both if you feel like both could work. I just need to know how many people are interested in subbing single Fakemon or Fakemon cores.

zxgzxg already pointed this out to me, but thanks for mentioning it again! I change my sub and it deals with the team more easily. Clef might cause trouble, but it's more in Aquairys favour.

Thanks again to you and zxgzxg for the criticism!

Looks kinda strong? It's got great bulk, Poison Heal, and Recover so it looks pretty unkillable. I'd say remove Magic Guard, Recover, and/or Flip Turn (if you're worried about recovery, you could run Protect over Recover to some effect.

Your set says Poison Heal instead of Levitate. Secondly, I think a strong and fast STAB Steelworker attacker with Ghost/Fighting coverage seems a little strong. I'd say remove Steelworker.

Thanks for the feedback, I've removed Steelworker in favour of Clear Body. Good catch for the ability on the Set, I'd copy/pasted but forgotten to update!

First of all, this can't win against every lead. It loses if it gets hit by 3 triple axels from pheromosa or toxic'd by tyranitar. Other than that, it can beat the entire team as long as it doesn't get burned by flame body or scald or crit by clef. Fakemon Name: Regolord

Ability: Shield Dust / Sand Veil | Sand Force (HA)
Stats: 50 / 70 / 180 / 95 / 110 / 65 | 540

Moves:
Physical: Accelerock, Double-Edge, Earthquake, Horn Leech, Rock Slide, Solar Blade, Wood Hammer
Special: lol who cares
Status: Aromatherapy, Bulk Up, Growth, Rock Polish, Spiky Shield, Wide Guard
Important Note: In addition to any other move not explicitly specified above, Stone Edge is also a deliberate omission as to lower its power with Guts sets.
Physical Design: Probably something resembling a stone ram with moss covering its body and leaves/flowers growing off its curved horns.
Description: Bulky Sweeper, Sun Setter
Set and Explanation:
Arboulder @ Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: EVs: 252 Atk / 12 SpD / 244 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Spiky Shield
- Bulk Up
- Accelerock
- Horn Leech

Fakemon Name: Prospectre
Typing: Ghost/Steel
Ability: Levitate / Illuminate / Clear Body
Stats: BSR 555; HP: 69 / Att 128 / Def 95 / SpA 42 / SpD 101 / Spe 120
Moves: Poltergeist, Confuse Ray, Spite, Meteor Mash, Autotomize, Stone Edge, Wide Guard, Stealth Rock, Low Kick, Detect, Bulk Up, Psychic, Trick, Dig, Earthquake, Haze, Flash, Scary Face, Mean Look, Follow Me, Assist, Pain Split,
It's assumed that lower tiers of similar moves are included in the movepool - Shadow Claw, Metal Claw etc.
Description: All Out Attacker, Hazer
Flavour: Prospectre are formed in collapsed mineshafts, coalescing around the fear of any who might be trapped down there. Dependent on the mineral being mined, it appears to have an influence on the creature's nature; those in gold can be greedy, but still kind hearted, while those in iron mines are noted for being grumpy, but determined to help dig the way out. As mining has turned more mechanical and safer for the human operators, sightings of Prospectre grow less and less. Their forms appear amorphous and changeable, perhaps taking on the appearance of something those nearby fear most, although hidden by an ethereal glow - some professors believe that the reduced sightings is because Prospectre feed from these strong emotions, and adopt those traits almost uncontrollably. Unfortunately, this seems to give them a bad reputation.

Prospectre @ Assault Vest
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Att / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Poltergeist
- Meteor Mash
- Stone Edge
- Low Kick

- Steel/Ghost provides immunity to Ground, Fighting, and Sandstorm chip damage.
- The remaining weaknesses have big exhaust port weaknesses in 4* Weaknesses, which work well as coverage moves; Low Kick and Stone Edge OHKO's Tyranitar and Moltres easily, and it outspeeds them both, and isn't OHKO'd in return.
0 SpA Moltres Flamethrower vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Prospectre: 156-186 (55.7 - 66.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Prospectre Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 108+ Def Moltres: 420-496 (109.6 - 129.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
0 Atk Tyranitar Crunch vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Prospectre: 234-276 (83.5 - 98.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Prospectre Low Kick (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 524-620 (129.7 - 153.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
- The full attack investment allows Prospectre to guarantee 2HKO Clefable even if Soft-Boil, potentially sweep the party with OHKO's should Meteor Mash grant +1 Attack. Should this not be considered important, the EV's can be more easily placed into defenses to more comfortably, such as giving more freedom like being able to take additional chip from Pheromosa's Triple Axel.
+1 252+ Atk Prospectre Poltergeist (110 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro: 396-468 (100.5 - 118.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Doublade Poltergeist (110 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro: 264-312 (67 - 79.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Doublade Meteor Mash vs. 252 HP / 208+ Def Clefable: 294-348 (74.6 - 88.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Doublade Low Kick (60 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Excadrill: 216-256 (59.8 - 70.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Doublade Poltergeist (110 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Excadrill: 297-349 (82.2 - 96.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Choice Band Pheromosa Triple Axel (40 BP) (3 hits) vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Prospectre: 108-126 (38.5 - 45%) -- approx. 3HKO
- 252 Speed EV's ensures that even with a neutral nature, Prospectre can, in the off-chance of being paralyzed by switching into Clefable's Thunder, still outspeed Tyranitar's Crunch. There is little point in trying to Catch Excadrill or Pheremosa, but their primary damage dealers
0 SpA Life Orb Clefable Thunder vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Prospectre: 66-78 (23.5 - 27.8%) -- 82% chance to 4HKO
- 128 Attack guarantees OHKO against Moltres (Stone Edge), Tyranitar (Low Kick) and Pheremosa (Poltergeist, Meteor Mash) even without this, and 2HKO's against the rest of the team, increasing to OHKO vs all should Meteor Mash trigger.

First time I've really done this. Sorry, competitive gaming's not a huge thing for me, I just love the creation aspect :)
Unfortunately, the submissions from kakaks, MossySandwich, and ChoiceScarfed were not included for either still being WIP or not being a valid submission.

Important Announcement:
After some discussion with the council and others in the Pet Mod Discord, I have realized that while trying to create one Fakemon to beat a well-made team of six Pokemon is definitely possible, it is extremely constraining and will eventually lead to an unhealthy metagame. Therefore, I have decided to switch submissions to cores. This means you can sub two Pokemon that can beat the team together. Thank you to all those who brought up these issues and thanks to all of you for being patient as I figure out how to run a Pet Mod.

Because of this new change, the rules have been changed. Here are some important highlights:
  • You may sub up to 3 cores of 2 Fakemon
  • Your subs must include viable sets (no more weird mixed attackers)
  • The bonus point will be awarded based on the average BST of each core
Hopefully subbing will be a lot more easy and fun from now on.
