Project Break This Team: USUM UU Edition [Week 71 - Submissions]

I'm usually a lurker who doesn't even login to smogon and I know voting has started and I'm not even posting a core but this team has nothing for mega beedrill.

Good ol' fashion VoltTurn with a couple twists. Rotom-C and Mega Beedrill make a fantastic VoltTurn core, and USUM blessed Rotom-C with Defog so another teamslot doesn't have to be wasted on removal. HP Fire is used because Scizor smashes this core otherwise, and Grassium Z lets it hit Gliscor and Water-types hard. I opted for an unorthodox Beedrill set. Toxic Spikes are just good in general, but they combo amazingly with Vincune. Pursuit also traps Latias for it very well, since any non-Scarf set is switching out fearing U-turn. My Vincune (and many others) runs Ice Beam > Protect for Dragon-types and Serperior. Next up, I needed SR, so I tossed on the ever-reliable Taunt Krookodile, giving me an Electric immunity + soft Sharpedo check with Intimidate. CB Terrakion is the obligatory breaker on a VoltTurn team, while Doublade rounds it out nicely by acting as a full stop to Mega Aero, Cobalion, DD Mega Altaria, opposing Mega Beedrills, and Scizor (somewhat).

Core submissions are due by Thursday. Good luck!

Tentacruel @ Black Sludge

EVs: 248 HP / 156 Def / 8 SpA / 96 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Rapid Spin
- Haze
- Toxic Spikes

So basically most of the Scizor answers on this team can't handle a +2 QA after chip and/or a Knock Off (Doublade)... so I went with Scizor to potentially sweep after Tspikes chip from Tentacruel, and Tentacruel to provide Tspikes to setup Scizor for a sweep and hopefully help stall out Suicune with Haze/Tspikes n_n.

Cherry Bomb (Infernape) @ Fightinium Z

EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature

- Fire Blast
- Grass Knot
- Focus Blast

As a whole this team is massively threatened by Infernape. Ape wipes through this team by hitting every single Pokemon super effectively only fearing Beedrill and a speed tie with Terrakion. Gliscor has the ability to wall Beedrill and has a solid matchup versus Terrakion. Gliscor also sets Stealth Rocks which consistently chip Beedrill, and can slow pivot out into Infernape. With Gliscor behind it protecting Infernape from Terrakion and Beedrill, Infernape sweeps this team.

Serperior has only one true answer in this team; Beedrill. Aero traps Beedrill and gets needed Chipdamage on Doublade. Serp comes in on Doublade, kills with 2xLeafstorm and lives barely with 1-2% (Gyro+Sneak). Serp wins now with +4 Giga Drain and HP Fire.

If the Opponent decides to go Suicune over Doublade (after the Beedrill was trapped), Serp switches in on any move, gets Setup (thanks to Assault Vest bulk) and wins.

There's a tiebreaker this week, and because of that I'm gonna vote for itsjustdrew; Infernape and Gliscor are both huge problems for this team, so this is a well-deserved win for you. Congrats!

So basically this is hera + flying resist core, in this case the flying resist is staka. Hera is great for stall while staka is a really underrated late game sweeper rn that also has a hilariously good matchup vs offense. Scarf Lati is just there w/ Ice Beam because of it’s resistances and immunities, speed control, Serp matchup, and Gliscor matchup. Specs Prima is also something that’s super dope with Heracross because it brings shit like Blissey and Empo in, which lets Heracross in for free since it’s not afraid of getting Scald burned or Toxiced. Hippo is here as the rocker, mmane answer, sandstorm + staka to be a more consistent lati answer, etc. Heatman himself is chillin as the removal, I wanted a mon that could fog on steels, specifically Scizor and Klefki. Heatman is capable of fogging on both those mons and can also lure shit like Swampert with Hp Grass to let Staka put in some work in the late game n_n.

I figured correcting for capitalization in viv's description would remove some of the vivalosspirit from it, so I left it as it was sent to me.

Get your core submissions in by Thursday!

I'm A Believer (Celebi) @ Groundium Z

Brandy (Primarina) @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD / 4 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Sleep Talk
- Moonblast
- Rest
- Scald

When looking at this team I see Latias, Heracross, Hippowdon, and Stakataka. All of these Pokemon do not enjoy facing a defensive Primarina. Even with no special attack investment Primarina threatens all these Pokemon and this teams only switch in is its Primarina. Celebi factors into the equation by threatening Primarina and having the ability to kill Rotom Heat from +2 (+2 252 SpA Celebi Psychic vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Rotom-Heat: 231-273 (95.8 - 113.2%) -- 75% chance to OHKO). Celebi, being the bulky Pokemon it is, is able to stomache a Moon Blast from Primarina and is also able to nuke Stakataka with Z-Earthpower. Thanks for your time and also thank you for the votes last week :)

Look at Crawdaunt. Now look at the team. Now look at Crawdaunt again. Crab sweeps the hole Team at +2 if we trap Lati. And Lati trapping is easy with Sciz. I see no flaws.... zero... besides getting +2 ever

Terrakion @ Choice Band
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge

- Toxic / Rock Slide

Serperior @ Assault Vest
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Leaf Storm
- Giga Drain
- Dragon Pulse
- Hidden Power [Fire]

So, what i first saw as something that kinda can 2hko or OHKO everything on this team. Choice band terrak, to be fair, CB terrak can kill everything. Toxic can be used to hit hippo on a switch, or rock slide for a more accurate rock stab. Paired with that is AV serp, which can switch in on things like lati, primarina, and weaken the ground type in hippo so terrak can in the end just kill everything.

Given that the structure of this team is "hera + flying resist core", having a pokemon that can beat both hera and flying resists is probably pretty good at breaking it. Togekiss actually singlehandedly can deal with most of the pokemon on this team, as Rotom's volt switch definitely doesn't do enough to threaten it (and it can just roost up) and scarf Lati ice beam is similarly pretty weak. However, M-Scept offensively covers pretty well, dealing with Primarina (who threatens toge with toxic), and generally not allowing anything to safely switch in.
