Heatran is the premier form of role compression in the CAP metagame. It can spread and absorb status, set Stealth Rock, and give invaluable utility against threatening Pokemon like Volcarona, Dragapult, Scizor, and Calm Mind Clefable. The combination of Magma Storm and Taunt allows Heatran to trap and remove Toxapex, Slowking, and Blissey. Furthermore, the high Base Power and residual damage of Magma Storm are useful to hit switch-ins that don't have reliable recovery, such as Landorus-T and Colossoil, harder. Earth Power is useful coverage against Fire-resistant and immune Pokemon like Toxapex, Astrolotl, and opposing Heatran. Toxic is important on Heatran due to it crippling most of its best switch-ins: Landorus-T, Slowking, and Arghonaut are some good examples. Stealth Rock provides valuable role compression; however, using it requires you to choose between Taunt and Toxic for the last moveslot. 120 Speed EVs allow Heatran to outspeed maximum Speed neutral-natured Magnezone and Aegislash, in addition to uninvested Landorus-T, with the rest after HP invested in Special Defense to check Pokemon like Dragapult and Tornadus-T more effectively.

Heatran is prone to getting chipped due to its lack of reliable recovery, so pivots that can bring it in safely like Zeraora, Dragapult, Syclant, and Rillaboom are very useful. Rillaboom is especially useful, as Grassy Terrain supplements Heatran's weak recovery from Leftovers while also reducing Earthquake damage. Heatran's weakness to chip damage means that entry hazard removal from Pokemon like Colossoil and Tornadus-T is essential to support it. Leftovers is its only form of recovery, so Knock Off absorbers like Tomohawk, Clefable, and Arghonaut are appreciated. Finally, offensive threats like Kerfluffle, Nasty Plot Tornadus-T, and Jumbao appreciate Heatran's ability to cripple and potentially eliminate Slowking, Toxapex, and Tornadus-T, while other wallbreakers like Dragapult appreciate Heatran spreading status and chipping foes like Tapu Fini and Colossoil.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
===================

Protect helps improve the Slowking matchup, grants extra turns of Leftovers recovery, and allows Magma Storm to chip switch-ins further, but it's usually less valuable than the utility of Toxic or Stealth Rock. Heavy Slam is a similarly niche option to beat Clefable, Blissey, Galarian Slowking, and Tapu Lele. Finally, Choice Specs can be run on sun teams for a strong wallbreaker off of Heatran's base 130 Special Attack and strong moves such as Eruption; however, the lack of defensive utility in comparison to the standard set renders it niche. Flame Body can be run to let Heatran lure in Jumbao, since Jumbao uses Trace to check Heatran, while also punishing Knock Off users like Zeraora and Weavile; however, without Flash Fire, you forfeit its ability to answer Volcarona and Flamethrower Clefable.

Checks and Counters
===================
**Bulky Water-types**: Tapu Fini, Shed Shell Toxapex, Arghonaut, and Slowking can all switch into Heatran and force it out with super effective moves and significant chip damage. However, the latter two don't like taking Toxic.

**Dragon-types**: Dragonite and Hydreigon resist all of Heatran's moves and can force it out with Ground-type coverage. However, they are both vulnerable to Toxic. Pajantom can switch into Heatran due to its high Special Defense, access to Earthquake, and immunity to Toxic, but entry hazards and Magma Storm can easily wear it down.

**Jumbao**: After copying Flash Fire with Trace, Jumbao resists or is immune to both of Heatran's attacks and threatens to 2HKO with Focus Blast, though it must be wary of Toxic.

**Ground-types**: Specially defensive Landorus-T, Colossoil, and standard Garchomp can switch into Heatran and threaten it out with Earthquake. However, Toxic severely limits these Pokemon's longevity. Hippowdon and Gastrodon are more reliable answers due to their bulk and reliable recovery; however, neither appreciate Toxic as well.

**Knock Off Users**: Heatran is very reliant on its item, as Leftovers is its only method of recovery as a defensive Pokemon. Therefore, Heatran must be wary of directly switching in on Pokemon like Toxapex, Scizor, Clefable, and Tornadus-T. None of them can safely switch in on a Magma Storm, however.

Heatran is the premier form of role compression in the CAP metagame. It's immune to Toxic and Will-o-Wisp, able to spread status and set hazards, one of the few Volcarona answers, and it can trap and kill defensive opposition to pave the way for breakers and cleaners to finish a team off. These qualities make it an excellent pivot, due to the fact that it'll have many chances to come in the game and that it can force switches against Pokemon like Corviknight, Scizor, Blissey, and Toxapex. Magma Storm, in conjunction with Taunt, is necessary for Heatran's role as a trapper, as they prevent targets like Blissey, Toxapex, and Slowking from recovering, Teleporting, or switching, forcing them to use their low-power attacking moves. Moving taunt to fourth slot as Toxic is mandatory in Slowking meta; Shift this sentence later. Furthermore, the high power of Magma Storm alongside chip damage provided by Magma Storm's side effect is useful to severely damage switchins without reliable recovery, like Landorus-T, Colossoil and Garchomp. Earth Power is useful coverage against Fire-resists like Toxapex, Astrolotl, and opposing chipped Heatran.

The last slot can be customized based on team composition, as most teams require atleast one Toxic user and Stealth Rocker each.
Toxic is especially good on Heatran due to the fact that Toxic cripples most of its best switchins (Landorus-T, Slowking, and Arghonaut are some good examples); however, giving it Stealth Rock allows you to further capitalize on the switches forced by Heatran. Move up toxic to represent its third slash status, move taunt here. Protect is also an option that helps improve the Slowking matchup and allows you to chip switchins further, but it usually doesn't compare to the utility of Toxic or Stealth Rock. Make this an OO then. Heavy Slam is a similarly niche option that allows you to beat Clefable, a popular switchin due to its ability to cripple Heatran with Knock Off, along with the fact that it doesn't take any damage from Magma Storm. Also OO. Flash Fire is important, as it makes sure that Heatran can answer basically every Volcarona set, which is one of the main draws of Heatran in the builder: it's a consistent Volcarona answer in a scarce pool of Volcarona answers. Remove this sentence, mention Flame Body in OOs w.r.t. Jumbao

Heatran is prone to getting chipped due to its lack of reliable recovery, so pivots that can bring it in safely or on resisted moves like Zeraora, Dragapult, Syclant and Rillaboom are very useful. Rillaboom is especially useful, as Grassy Terrain helps supplement Heatran's weak recovery from Leftovers. As a follow up to the above, Heatran's weakness to chip damage means that hazard removal from Pokemon like Equilibra or Tornadus-T is basically essential to support it. Because Leftovers are its only form of recovery, Heatran also hates taking Knock Off, so Knock Off absorbers like Tomohawk, Clefable, and Arghonaut are appreciated. Finally, offensive threats like Kerfluffle, Nasty Plot Tornadus-T, Jumbao and Nidoking appreciate the chip damage from Toxic and Magma Storm against both forms of Slowking, Toxapex, and Tornadus-T. This sentence is weird.

Add in OO; Protect, Hslam, Flame Body, Scarf, Specs (this mon has 100 options)

Checks and Counters
===================
In this section, briefly cover some common checks and counters to the Pokemon in question.

*Bulky Waters*: Although Toxapex gets trapped by Heatran, Tapu Fini, Arghonaut, and Slowking can all switch into Heatran and threaten it out with super effective moves and significant chip damage. All of these do have to be wary; mention that Taunt/Tox can technically beat all.

Dragon types: Hydreigon and Defensive Dragonite are the two best answers possible, Pajantom eats.

*Knock Off Users*: Heatran is very reliant on its item, as Leftovers are its only method of recovery as a defensive Pokemon. Therefore, Knock Off users like Zeraora, Clefable and Tornadus-T can threaten it out. Not really threaten it out? It still switches into clef, move this later.

*Jumbao*: Jumbao traces Flash Fire to absorb any move of Heatran's and threatens Heatran out with Focus Blast. Flame Body can be run on Heatran to prevent this, however the opportunity cost of not being able to counter Volcarona is usually not worth it.

*Ground-types*: Landorus-T, Colossoil, Swampert, and Garchomp are all examples of Ground-types that threaten Heatran out with SE Earthquake. However, it should be noted that all of these Pokemon are weak to Toxic, so catching them with a Toxic on the switch can cripple their effectiveness quite a bit. Perhaps just earthquake users?

Furthermore, the high power of Magma Storm alongside chip damage provided by Magma Storm's side effect is useful to severely damage switchins without reliable recovery, like Landorus-T, Colossoil and Garchomp. Earth Power is useful coverage against Fire-resists like Toxapex, Astrolotl, and opposing chipped Heatran. Toxic is important on Heatran due to the fact that Toxic cripples most of its best switchins (Landorus-T, Slowking, and Arghonaut are some good examples). The last slot can be customized altered based on team composition,;(RC) Taunt is useful to trap opposition with pivoting moves like Slowking or Blissey, or prevent recovery; however, giving it Stealth Rock allows you to further capitalize on the switches forced by Heatran. Flash Fire is important, as it makes sure that Heatran can answer basically every Volcarona set, which is one of the main draws of Heatran in the builder: it's a consistent Volcarona answer in a scarce pool of Volcarona answers. 120 speed allows you to outspeed max Speed neutral-natured Magnezone and Aegislash, ensuring that you take relatively little chip damage from their high powered moves

(Mention Grassy Terrain lower EQ's power) As a follow up to the above, Heatran's weakness to chip damage means that hazard removal from Pokemon like Equilibra or Tornadus-T is basically essential to support it. (cleaned up and added additional mons) A Choice Scarf sets can be run to clean and check Cawmodore; however, they usually tend to only have value on certain Sun teams, as the utility offered by standard Heatran is usually far superior. (Scarf Heatran isn't a Sun mon per se, edit it to mention it's gimmicky and hard to fit / you miss out on Heatran's role compression). Flame Body can be run as a lure for Jumbao, due to the fact that a Jumbao that traces Flame Body is still weak to Fire-type moves. (mention that Flame Body lets it punish Knock Off spammers like Tornadus-T or Zeraora to an extent) Finally, Choice Specs can be run to act as a strong wallbreaker off Heatran's 130 SpA and high power moves, however, like the Choice Scarf set, the lack of defensive utility in comparison to the standard set renders it niche. (minute detail but group this together with the Scarf comment)

*Bulky Waters*: Although Toxapex gets trapped by Heatran, Tapu Fini, Arghonaut, and Slowking can all switch into Heatran and threaten it out with super effective moves and significant chip damage. However, Toxic Taunt Heatran can technically beat Slowking in a one-on-one matchup, and Toxic can cripple almost all of the Water-types mentioned, so users of these Pokemon as Heatran answers must be warythe latter two don't like getting Toxiced. (shrunk it down, no need to mention Toxapex as a non topic)

*Dragon-types*: Dragonite and Hydreigon are some of Heatran's sturdiest answers, due to their resistance to all of Heatran's moves, along with the fact that they threaten Heatran out with Earthquake and Earth Power respectively. However, they are both vulnerable to Toxic, which should be noted. Pajantom can also function as a good Heatran answer due to its high Special Defense, access to Earthquake, and immunity to Toxic, but its lack of recovery means that it's easily worn down by hazards and chip from Magma Storm. . (Merge the Paj sentence and edit it to just be "Ground-type coverage")

*Jumbao*: Jumbao traces Flash Fire to absorb any move of Heatran's and threatens Heatran out with Focus Blast. Body can be run on Heatran to prevent this, however the opportunity cost of not being able to counter Volcarona is usually not worth it (You brought this up earlier and Flame Body is a niche option, no need to bring it up again)

*Earthquake Users*: Landorus-T, Colossoil, Dragonite, and Garchomp are all examples of Ground-types that threaten Heatran out with SE Earthquake. However, it should be noted that all of these Pokemon are weak to Toxic (lol Colossoil), so catching them with a Toxic on the switch can cripple their effectiveness quite a bit. (Edit this to Ground-type coverage, Earth Power from Nidoking or Earthquake from Miasmaw both invalidate it)

*Knock Off Users*: Heatran is very reliant on its item, as Leftovers are its only method of recovery as a defensive Pokemon. Therefore, Knock Off users like Zeraora, Clefable,(AC) and Tornadus-T can pressure it intoforce it to switch out. None of them want to get burned by Flame Body, nor like switching in on a Magma Storm, however.

It can spread and absorb status, set hazards, and check Volcarona. (I took out the part about trapping cause you mention it later) It's also able to pivot into and threaten out Pokemon like Toxapex (it cannot pivot into Toxapex unless you really like your Heatran knocked for some reason) Blissey, Scizor, and Corviknight. Magma Storm allows Heatran to trap and kill Toxapex, Slowking, and Blissey. Earth Power is useful coverage against Fire-resists like Toxapex, Astrolotl, and opposing Heatran. Toxic is important on Heatran due to the fact that Toxic it cripples most of its best switchins: (Addex Colon) Landorus-T, Slowking, and Arghonaut are some good examples. The last slot can be altered based on team composition; Taunt is useful to trap opposition with pivoting moves like Slowking or Blissey, or prevent recovery; however, giving it Stealth Rock allows you to further capitalize on the switches forced by Heatran. Change wording to better reflect the slashes. 120 Speed allows you to outspeed max Speed neutral-natured Magnezone and Aegislash, ensuring that you take relatively little chip damage from their high powered moves

Heatran is prone to getting chipped due to its lack of reliable recovery, so pivots that can bring it in safely like Zeraora, Dragapult, Syclant and Rillaboom are very useful. Rillaboom is especially useful, as Grassy Terrain helps supplement Heatran's weak recovery from Leftovers, while also reducing Earthquake damage. Heatran's weakness to chip damage means that hazard removal from Pokemon like Equilibra or Tornadus-T is basically essential to support it. Leftovers are its only form of recovery, so Knock Off absorbers like Tomohawk, Clefable, and Arghonaut are appreciated. Finally, offensive threats like Kerfluffle, Nasty Plot Tornadus-T, Jumbao and Nidoking appreciate the chip damage from Toxic and Magma Storm against both forms of (it really doesn't end up chipping GKing) Slowking, Toxapex, and Tornadus-T.

Other Options
===================

Protect helps improve the Slowking matchup and allows you to chip switchins further, but it's usually less valuable than the utility of Toxic or Stealth Rock. Heavy Slam is a similarly niche option that allows you to beat Clefable, Blissey, and Tapu Lele. A Choice Scarf set can be run to check Cawmodore; however, this set is gimmicky and doesn't offer nearly as much role compression as the general set. Finally, Choice Specs can be run to act as a strong wallbreaker off of Heatran's 130 SpA and high power moves, however, like the Choice Scarf set, the lack of defensive utility in comparison to the standard set renders it niche, even on sun. Flame Body can be run as a lure for Jumbao, due to the fact that a Jumbao that traces Flame Body is still weak to Fire-type moves Jumbao uses Trace to check Heatran, while also punishing Knock Off users like Zeraora and Weavile.

Checks and Counters
===================
In this section, briefly cover some common checks and counters to the Pokemon in question. Don't do this in analyses. It's already labeled as checks and counters, that's all the intro you need.

Add an extra set of asterisks to each check/counter section as I have done below:

**Bulky Water-types**: Tapu Fini, Arghonaut, and Slowking can all switch into Heatran and threaten it out with super effective moves and significant chip damage. However, the latter two don't like getting Toxiced.

**Dragon-types**: Dragonite and Hydreigon are some of Heatran's sturdiest answers, due to their resistance to all of Heatran's moves, along with the fact that they threaten Heatran out with Ground-type coverage. However, they are both vulnerable to Toxic, which should be noted. Pajantom can also function as a good Heatran answer due to its high Special Defense, access to Earthquake, and immunity to Toxic, but its lack of recovery means that it's easily worn down by hazards and chip from Magma Storm.

**Jumbao**: After tracing Flash Fire, Jumbao becomes resistant resists or is immune to all of Heatran's moves and threatens to 2HKO with Focus Blast.

**Ground-types Coverage Users**: Landorus-T, Colossoil, Dragonite, and Garchomp are all examples of Ground-types that threaten Heatran out with SE a super effective Earthquake. However, it should be noted that all of these Pokemon, apart from Colossoil are weak to Toxic, so catching them with a Toxic on the switch can cripple their effectiveness quite a bit. Nidoking and Miasmaw Excadrill can function as Heatran checks, however they cannot switch into any of Heatran's moves.

**Knock Off Users**: Heatran is very reliant on its item, as Leftovers are its only method of recovery as a defensive Pokemon. Therefore, Zeraora, Clefable, (AC) and Tornadus-T can pressure it force it to switch out. None of them want to get burned by Flame Body, nor like switching in on a Magma Storm, however.

I would suggest adding a section for GKing, it's the best tran answer.

Heatran is the premier form of role compression in the CAP metagame. It can spread and absorb status, set hazards, and check has invalauble utility against threatening Pokemon like Volcarona, Dragapult, Scizor, and Calm Mind Clefable. It's also able to pivot into and threaten out Pokemon like Blissey, Scizor, and Corviknight. singling out volcarona in the previous sentence felt off to me since it sorta implies that volca is the single most important mon it checks and that answering it is equally as important of a role as setting hazards or something, so listing some other pokemon like pult helps convey its defensive utility more broadly; the second sentence i just dont think is super necessary, but even less so after moving scizor to the first sentence The combination of Magma Storm and Tauntallows Heatran to trap and kill Toxapex, Slowking, and Blissey. Furthermore, the high base power of Magma Storm, alongside chip damage provided by Magma Storm's side effect its residual chip damage, is useful to hit switchins that don't have reliable recovery, such as Landorus-T, and Colossoil and Garchomp, harder feel like chomper still doesnt care too much about magma, has much more to fear from like toxic. Earth Power is useful coverage against Fire-resists like Toxapex, Astrolotl, and opposing Heatran. Toxic is important on Heatran due to the fact that Toxic it cripples most of its best switchins: Jumbao, Landorus-T, Slowking, and Arghonaut are some good examples. Stealth Rock provides valuable role-compression; however, using it requires you to choose between Taunt and Toxic for the last slot, both of which are valuable to Heatran for the reasons mentioned above. 120 Speed allows you to outspeed max Speed neutral-natured Magnezone, and Aegislash, and uninvested Landorus-T, ensuring that you take relatively little chip damage from their high powered moves with the rest invested in Special Defense to check Pokemon like Dragapult and Tornadus-T more effectively.

Rillaboom is especially useful, as Grassy Terrain helps supplement Heatran's weak recovery from Leftovers, while also reducing Earthquake damage. Heatran's weakness to chip damage means that hazard removal from Pokemon like Equilibra Colossoil better ground type spinner as a partner or Tornadus-T is essential to support it. Leftovers are its only form of recovery, so Knock Off absorbers like Tomohawk, Clefable, and Arghonaut are appreciated. Finally, offensive threats like Kerfluffle, Nasty Plot Tornadus-T, and Jumbao and Nidoking appreciate the chip damage from Toxic and Magma Storm against Heatran's ability to cripple and potentially eliminate Slowking, Toxapex, and Tornadus-T., while other wallbreakers like Dragapult appreciate Heatran spreading status and chipping foes like Tapu Fini and Colossoil. changed the first part of the sentence cus pex doesn't get toxiced so you're either eliminating it on the spot or leaving it on low health which really means it'll be back to full in like 5 turns. also pult is such a good tran partner so had to give it another shoutout

Add an extra set of asterisks to each check/counter section as I have done below:

**Jumbao**: After tracing Flash Fire, Jumbao resists or is immune to all of Heatran's moves and threatens to 2HKO with Focus Blast, though it must be wary of Toxic.

**Ground-types**: Specially defensive Landorus-T, Colossoil, and standard Garchomp are all examples of Ground-types that threaten can switch into Heatran and threaten it out with a super effective Earthquake. However, it should be noted that all of the longevity of these Pokemon, apart from Colossoil are weak to is severely limited once inflicted with Toxic, so catching them with a Toxic on the switch can cripple their effectiveness quite a bit. Hippowdon and Gastrodon are more reliable answers due to their bulk and access to reliable recovery; however, neither appreciate Toxic as well. edited for conciseness, added hippo and gastro

**Knock Off Users**: Heatran is very reliant on its item, as Leftovers are its only method of recovery as a defensive Pokemon. Therefore, Heatran must be wary of directly switching in on Pokemon like Toxapex, Scizor, Zeraora, Clefable, (AC) and Tornadus-T can pressure it force it to switch out. None of them want to get burned by Flame Body, nor like can safely switch switching in on a Magma Storm, however. heatran is hardly ever forced to switch out of these matchups (aside from zera but that's because it has stronger attacks), it's more just that it can't directly switch into them despite beating them normally
