Shiny Palette Rules
  • Shiny palettes must be palette swaps of the winning sprite entry. No other modifications to the image may be made.
    • Under rare circumstances, you may map one color on the regular sprite to multiple colors on the shiny sprite.
  • Colors in a shiny palette must have the same relative hue and brightness compared to the corresponding color on the original sprite.
      • Acceptable:
        • Light blue -> light red AND dark blue -> dark red
        • Light blue -> white AND dark blue -> gray
        • Light blue -> gray AND dark blue -> black
      • Unacceptable:
        • Light blue -> dark green AND dark blue -> light green
        • Light blue -> light red AND dark blue -> dark green
      [*][*][*][*][*][*][*][*][*][*][*][*]
  • Images must be in PNG format.
No more than three WIP shiny palettes can be posted by any individual person through the entire course of the submission thread.

Final Submission Post

All artists must make a final submission post conforming to the shiny palette rules (listed above) and the following:
  • The post must have "Final Submission" (in bold) as the first line, with the sprites at the top, and any additional description or comments (if applicable) below them.
  • The final submission image must be hosted on a reliable image hosting service (such as Smogon forums or Imgur). Do not use the 'Attach a photo' tool on messaging apps (e.g. Discord). Do not use Iaza or Ezimba.
  • Only make one (1) final submission post.

You do not need to submit both shiny palettes for stage 1 and stage 2. If you are planning to submit multiple sets of shiny palettes, use one image per design and post all images in the same Final Submission post. Shiny palette submissions for stage 1 will be polled first, followed by shiny palette submissions for stage 2.

Chuggalong's shiny palette, for reference:

Apparently there was some accidental low opacity pixel on the winning sprite for chuggon, so please use the fixed chuggon sprites in the OP of this thread when editing its palette

Red. The metallic parts only change color slightly just like Chugga's shiny which uses a slightly different shade for the gold but is still meant to be gold. The black parts on both are lighter than the base pallets to go with Chugga's white in the shiny. I didn't go fully white in order to keep the shinies as straight pallet swaps as the white would've messed up some smaller details like the wheel swirls and the eyes. Chugga's shiny itself isn't a straight pallet swap technically so it doesn't matter too much but I think it works to help make the shinies not just the original pallet. All three use different reds which mirror the purples on the original art, Chuggon's red is the coldest, Draggalong's red is in-between and Chugga's red is the warmest.

Made the metal sections reference colors the Fenghuang is often drawn with, a creature which is associated with the dragon.
(hoping that lightening the body color doesn't break any rules due to also lightening the color in the eye as well for Draggalong)

There's a couple of red shinnies that take after Shiny Chuggalong so I thought I'd go for something different. I mostly kept the gas from Shiny Chuggalong in tact but otherwise I wanted to make each shell a distinctive color representative of real world trains. So I thought a British Railway Green Train, the Japanese Blue Train, and the red on Chuggalong would be an interesting concept for this shiny evolution line. Also in their original palette, Chuggon had a bronze trim and Draggalong a silver trim. But for these shinnies, I decided to go with a dirty gold that gets progressively more shiny, ending with Shiny Chuggalong's bright gold.

Wanted to try a yellow -> orange -> red progression. Chuggon's gold sheen and red eyes are meant to evoke those fortune frog figures often displayed in Chinese businesses while Dragga's oranges are loosely based on Chinese carp. The grays and blacks are lighter to better lead into Chugga's white. Big thanks to Darq for helping with these <3
