This is the thread for people to announce their desire to become either the Topic Leader (TL) or a member of the Topic Leadership Team (TLT) for this creation project. Do not suggest other users. If someone wants to become the TL or a TLT member, they will post on their own, and if they don't have a strong urge to be it then they shouldn't be signing up anyway. The CAP project requires the utmost dedication and a substantial amount of free time, especially to lead, meaning that only those who have carefully considered the magnitude of their application will apply at all. If you are not prepared to fulfill all of the responsibilities to the very end, then do not throw your hat into the ring.

Before applying it is important to read and understand the following posts
Topic Leadership
CAP 5 - Policy Review Summary

We are looking to fill the following five positions to help us lead the creation of this new Pokemon:
  • Topic Leader: In the public's eyes, this is the leader of the project. Overall, the goal of the TL is "quality control", not "project control". The responsibilities of the TL include creating a slate of Concept Submissions, running Concept Assessment, Threats Discussion, Post Play Lookback, and finalizing the slates of TLT members.
  • Topic Leadership Team: The TLT will be leading the four major competitive aspects of creating a Pokemon. They will make slates for their respective threads and provide meaningful discussion points to their specific area. Note that TLT members are allowed to make submissions during stages of the CAP process that they are not actively leading. We are looking to fill the following four positions:
    • Typing Leader
    • Ability Leader
    • Stats Leader
    • Movepool Leader
When making your application, please indicate which position(s) you are applying for. You must identify whether you're applying for TL or TLT (you are allowed to apply for both). You are allowed to specific which position you'd like to fill on the TLT, but it is not required. Topic leaders and TLT members should have the following qualifications:
  • Deep knowledge of the game of Pokemon
  • Familiarity with competitive Pokemon concepts, strategy, and philosophy, as practiced within Smogon
  • Willing to voice opinions and lead others
  • Open-minded to new ideas
  • Creative, "outside-of-the-box" thinker
  • Good writing skills
  • Level-headed when resolving disputes
Once this CAP starts, the Topic Leader and the Topic Leadership Team will be the most important, most visible members of the CAP community, and they are expected to be a strong guiding force throughout the creation process. If you are selected for any of these positions, you will have a great deal of power to influence the project. But you also have a responsibility to stay on top of things. You will have forum moderators to help you, but you need to be regularly active on the project until it is complete. All potential candidates should look through both the Topic Leadership Guide and the CAP Process Archive, to get an idea of what will be expected of you, if you are selected to be the Topic Leader or TLT member.

This thread is strictly for candidacy posts and posts supporting those candidates. Please stay on topic. Below are the guidelines for posting in this thread:
  • Candidates will benefit from highlighting their active involvement throughout the duration of a recent CAP project. Involvement in multiple CAP projects is strongly preferred.
  • Do not suggest other people. If you want you encourage someone else to run, then send them a PM or talk to them on the PS! CAP chatroom or the CAP Discord channel.
  • If you are new to the CAP project, do not sign up in this thread. Instead, spend a project or two lurking, learning, and participating first.
  • Include a summary of your involvement in the CAP project.
  • Make a pitch for why you should be selected. If you can't present and defend yourself, then you can't expect to lead a project whose primary function is discussion and debate. Convince us that you are a good choice.
  • Even if you don't think you are better qualified than certain other candidates, you still should consider posting your application. Candidates not selected as TL or TLT for this project will be on the watch list for next time around. Don't post your name if you don't intend to be active in the project, even if you are not selected, since people will be scrutinizing your involvement more closely.
  • Feel free to post support for any candidates already named.
  • Do not post disparaging remarks about any candidates.
If these rules are not followed, the offending user will be subject to moderation.

Applications will close on Thursday, August 20th 11:59 PM GMT-4

Hello everybody, my name is Gekokeso, and I will be putting my name in the hat for TLT, with the preference being Typing > Stats > Ability > Movepool but willing to take either of them. I have been lurking in the CAP subforum since the very beginning of SS, participating in all CAP processes since Astrolotl, as well as additional events such as the Isle of Armor tutor move additions and other buff processes, both in the Smogon forums and on Discord. I submitted Chuggalong's concept in "Collector's edition", as well as the winning typing for Saharaja in mono-ground and the ability of Obliteryx in Opportunist which I rallied for pretty early, as well as some other contributions throughout the years. I have been very active within the competitive scene for two years now, even winning my first CAP tournament as lead manager in last year's CAPCL, the first time I managed any CAP related tour. Those who have played with me can vouch for the fact that I would often provide support for nearly every tier that needed it, be it ORAS, SV, SS, among others.

I might not be the best battler (I got stomped in WCAP), but I am very active in the Pet Mods scene, a subforum entirely dedicated to metas when some Pokémon are buffed or some are made from scratch, so I at least have enough experience with what a meta tends to need or want, and what leads to a new Pokémon successfully integrating into a metagame.

Should I be selected as TLT I promise to be extremely active and lead conversation in a fruitful manner, as well as taking the community's input in order to create a project that the community can enjoy. Thanks for reading my pitch!

Hello, I'm Da Pizza Man! I am signing up for TL.

I've been active in CAP for technically 12 years at this point (Although granted, about half of that time was spent away from the process), with my contributions going all the way back to Volkraken's process! My list of accomplishments within the process is pretty extensive, serving as the Stats Leader during Cresceidon's and Obliteryx's processes, having a fair number of winning submissions (Namely Venomicon-P's stat spread and the movepools for Saharaja and Obliteryx), earning a CAP Snowflake badge for my accomplishments, and most recently being promoted to a moderator of the CAP Section.

My accomplishments within the metagame section of CAP are also very extensive, even if I don't personally view myself as the best player. In tournaments, I was on the winning teams of CAPCL III (As a manager) and CAPCL IV (As a player), made it to the CAP Circuit Championship in every year from 2023-2025, managed the Shoenice Skwovets to playoffs in CAPCL XI with Concept Everything, and have managed US Northeast to Semi-Finals in WCAP I with SHSP. Outside of just tournaments, I am also one of the leaders and moderators of CAP C&C, am a founding member and co-leader of the SS CAP Oldgen Council, and have an extensive history of hosting and promoting various events in the CAP Project room on Showdown, where I have been promoted to Room Owner earlier this year.

Generally speaking, I try to tackle leadership with a more "no-nonsense" approach to try to keep everyone on the same page, but I am very open to creative ideas and solutions to problems. Should I be selected as Topic Leader, my main goal for the process would be to promote more competitively-minded thinking while still trying to explore territory that may not be familiar to many members of the process as a whole.

Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Howdy,

I'm Azoth, and I'm throwing my hat in for CAP 38's TLT. Though I've been a lurker for far longer, I've been an active part of CAP for a little over two years now, having earned my ladybug ahead of CAP 37. Now I'm ready to take the next step up. I'd like to apply for Typing -> Ability -> Movepool -> Stats in that order.

Outside of regular processes, I've submerged myself into CAP AT over the last year. It's fast-paced environment has been a great teacher. However, I'd like to take the skills I've honed there and apply them to CAP proper. I'm especially interested in the early deliberation; it's far and away my favorite part of any process. The contrarian in me is averse to defaulting to the easy or obvious route; I like offbeat ideas. Every suggestion should be given its due consideration. My contributions to the project so far speak to that perspective. And it is the exact same perspective I would bring as a member of the TLT.

Most of my competitive experience is in VGC and draft leagues, which I've participated in for a decade now. Though I'm not a regular participant in the CAP competitive scene until we bring back CAP Draft, I do bring a firm grasp on the broader Pokemon metagame.

Thank you for your consideration.

Hi friends, I’m Guingil, and I would like to throw my hat in the ring for TLT. My preference would be Ability > Stats > Movepool > Typing.

I made my first foray into CAP way back in 2011, although I was pretty young and didn’t have much of a clue as to what was going on. One of my first posts got me a warning, and I suggested Illusion for Necturna before Aurumoth made it uncool. My return to CAP, as an adult, was during the later stages of Shox. I have followed it up by being very active during the processes of Ramnarok and Obliteryx, my contributions in the former netting me a Ladybug badge. 2/3 of my concept submissions have been slated and made it past the first poll (the other led to the aforementioned warning); my Stats submission for Obliteryx got second place; and I had the winning nerf package for it.

What I value most about the CAP process is how seriously we consider ideas while recognizing that they are meant for a fun game in the end. As a participant, I have tried to respond to others’ seriousness in kind, and I hope to bring the same philosophy as a TLT member. I like mapping out interactions and digging into why something works, rather than assuming one route or the other is obvious. I work best when given enough data and perspectives, and have often changed my mind on things upon acquiring new knowledge—which I will count on you, the community, to provide if I am elected. Also, I like charts, graphs, and other visualization tools.

As a battler, I kind of came back to it due to CAP, thinking my Pokémon design perspectives would be improved through battling experience. Have to walk the walk to talk the talk, right? This is still a work in progress, but I have qualified for the playoffs in the CAP Ladder Tournament as well as made it far in the currently ongoing Summer Seasonal.

Thank you for reading my application. Excited for the new process!

Hi, I'm Spammernoob, and I am signing up for TL.

I haven't participated in processes until recently, but I contributed some long posts during Obliteryx process, ie. the one on Opportunist interactions. I've also lurked for about 2 years, and am a CAP mod, which has familiarized me with the CAP process and philosophy. One demonstration of my understanding is my post explaining BSR, in which I tried to convey info hidden in spreadsheet formulas and old PRC posts in an understandable way to the general CAP contributor.

I'm also a prominent (?) tournament player in the CAP scene, winning Chuggalong playtest and consistently placing well in CAP circuit tournaments (1st seed in 2024 Circuit Champs, 2nd seed in 2025). I think this demonstrates my good understanding of the competitive aspects of CAP. In addition, I've dabbled in various other formats (pastgens like ORAS/SM, DOU, UU, Draft) and gotten ~1500 on each of their ladders, so I have additional perspective on various other tiers that can bring fresh ideas to CAP.

The most interesting part of the CAP process is discussion. My goal as TL will be to guide the discussion to make sure it stays productive and focused, while trying not to restrict things too much. I have a more open philosophy towards leadership, so I will be active during discussions, but aim to be more hands-off during decision-making stages, unless the situation is quite dire.

Thank you for your consideration.

EDIT: Here's the BSR post, if anyone's interested

Hello, I'm Volsur, and I'm signing up for TLT - my preference order being Ability > Typing > Movepool > Stats.

I'm relatively new to CAP, however understand the process and have made submissions for every competitive stage since I've joined. Despite understanding competitive, I'm very interested in more interesting and unique ideas, both during teambuilding and CAP creation - acknowledging and recognising the most competitive and balanced ideas and submissions may be an important part of the process, but the flavour is just as important, and I believe I'm able to find a good balance between the two. Even if newer CAPs focusing on one role/direction isn't necessarily bad, having more options means more creativity, which is already a key part of Pokemon; it should be an even bigger part of the literal CAP project.

I may not have any proper tour or submission acceptance background yet, but it's something I care about, and if I'm appointed you can be sure that everyone's unique flair will be considered, and CAP will be given back the spark that is the creative freedom we get from not being Gamefreak.

Greetings CAPpers, I'm Zetalz, and I'll signing up for TLT

I've been an active contributor in the CAP project for around 8 years now, since the middle of Generation 7, during the Starters. Since then I've gone on to TLT previously with Typing for CAP 33 Cresceidon, and also contributed the winning submission for stats with CAP 31 Saharaja. Beyond that my main contributions to CAP over the years has been as a driving force for discussion, both in the process proper and in policy review, for many years. I am always thinking and pushing for new ways to evolve this project further, and to see our communities efforts bare fruit that we can look back on with pride and admiration.

While I was inactive for most of Gen 9 competitive (for reasons outside my control), I've been involved with many tournaments in the communities history since the golden days of SM. I do not consider myself an elite level battler, far from infact, but I am very confident in my abilities to judge the competitive merits of any given mon or competitive ecosystem, and to give the CAP community a solid grasp on the project's goals at hand.

I have no preference for any particular stage to lead, as I have enough confidence from prior experience both in and out of TLT to feel adequately prepared for anything thrown at me, as well as to support any new TLT contributors with their own first go around.

Thank you for taking the time to give me your consideration, and I hope you all have a wonderful rest of your day.

It is the Chromoderator, kenn, that's who! After a much needed break in 37 from TL/TLT, I am back and better than ever! I am applying to be TL!

As many of you may know by now, I have been heavily involved with CAP going on 3ish years ranging from starting out as Cresceidon's Ability Leader to my most recent run as Ramnarok's Typing Leader! I am also the head of a very fun and popular side project called Alternate Timelines, where users can hone their process contributing skills and see what would have happened if a slated option had branched into a different result from the CAPs we know and love. I also recently booted up a Concept Workshop that allows users to post concepts they have to get feedback on while processes are paused in order to better understand how to correctly identify problems and positives within the idea they are trying to form.

While I am on the newer side than most, I haven't stopped pioneering within the CAP community since I have been welcomed with open arms and I am glad to (hopefully) finish this gen out strong and proud of what we as a community accomplished before WiWa swoops in to mess it all up lol.

As for my non-process contributions, I am also room owner (#) of the PS! CAP room as well as being CAP Forum Mod for quite a bit of time due to my ridiculous dedication and efforts to not just make the community better, but to also spread the CAP propaganda to other facets of the Smogon universe!

Unfortunately, my one flaw is not having too much metagame experience as though I did go 1-0 on my first go around in CAPPL IX I haven't played/participated in too many tournaments; however, I am an avid lurker of the competitive scene and thanks to my extensive work in OMs, where I am also a mod of the forums and room owner in the PS! room, I do have a great grasp on the pulse for competitive play and how to mold that into something the CAP metagame will appreciate and be proud of. I do also run a plethora of metagame related projects such as the OM Megathread (where I'm currently CAP UU's leader despite the inactivity of most of the CAP OMs) as well as the Room Events Megathread that consists of things like CCATs and running/occasionally participating in tours new and old gens within the PS! room itself.

I promise that despite me taking a break from CAP 37 (though I still did participate in discussions throughout the entire process), my time, effort, and love of the process has not dwindled and in fact I am pumped and motivated now more than ever to end this generation by going out on a high note.

Thank you for all considerations and let's have an amazing process for CAP 38!

Hi there, this is Iron and I’ll be applying for the role of TLT

I’ve been a fan of Pokémon for as long as I remember, and I’ve been involved with CAP for several years now. This will be my sixth CAP that I’ve been around

I’ve produced art submissions for CAP 32 and 34, and wrote Chuggalong’s (CAP 34) PokéDex entry!

My preferences in order would be Typing > Ability > Movepool > Stats

I first joined CAP as a means of improving my art skills both through testing my creative thinking and observing those of others. I still very much consider CAP to be the ultimate expression of both competitive and creative execution, being able to see our creations slug it with the best of them. Having gained some knowledge of the competitive scene has allowed me to develop these skills further, and now it’s time they were put to use!

I am once again looking forward to another season, and am excited to see some amazing ideas and art. Good luck to everyone!

Hello! My name is CapitanPabloskii everywhere you can find me, and I wish to apply for TLT.
My preferances would be: Movepool > Ability > Typing > Stats

I started CAP about a year and a half ago, after Shox got released, and since then I've done my best to contribute as best I can. I consider myself pretty versed in competitive, having written the analysis for Shox and the revamped analysis for Hemogoblin (both not published yet). I have been able to pretty accurately recognize how different aspects of a potential CAP could alter the metagame during the Ramnarok and Obliteryx processes and currently leading a new CAP Forum Project for about a month now, while having translatined multiple analyses into german, which means I had to meticulously sift through a lot of analyses, learning about the metagame a ton, though sadly the GP team in german isn't large enough for the necessary 2 GPs, so they also aren't published.

Outside of metagame knowledge, I also have been able to guide players and keep discussions on topic while not disrespecing or discouraging other players, which I have proven during the 3 CCATs I have had the privilege of leading, which has also netted me the driver (%) role in the PS CAP room.

I would also like to take the spotlight you've given me by reading this to endorse Guingil as a TLT, I belive he would do a great job and has been around for quite some time, as well as actively participating in a lot of the Processes.

Hopeful as to the direction this CAP will go, may this be a prosperous process with much to learn.

Staying out of the fray this time around, but I'd like to strongly endorse both Guingil and Zetalz for TLT. Both users are competent, articulate, and contemplative and I really do love the way they think, write, and approach the process in general.

Best of luck to all applicants!
