Introduction

Hey guys, it's CatManRulez here. This is my first Monotype team on the forums! I'm excited to present you my Rain team. I built this team due to my passion of Politoed. I think Politoed is an underused 'mon for Mono Water, so I have made this team to prove its power. Lets get to it.

Building Process
politoed.png
:
Like I said in the introduction I wanted to build around Politoed, its capable of taking hits and able to set up rain.
swampert.png
:
I wanted to pick my mega right away, I picked Mega-Swampert because of its ability Swift Swim, overall bulk, vast amount of attack, and its electric immunity.
kingdra.png
:
Next I wanted another Swift Swim user and a Special attacker, making Kingdra a perfect choice.
gyarados.png
:
With the lack of setup and a Grass/Fighting counter, I chose Gyarados, I also wanted a 'mon that always didn't rely on rain.
manaphy.png
: Then, Manaphy was my next choice because it has a different ability that is beneficial when the rain is up, opening more opportunities.
kabutops.png
:
Finally, I needed Rocks/hazard removal, which what Kabutops is for. Plus another Swift Swim user is always good the have.
The Sets

politoed.gif

Politoed @ Eject Button
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 248 HP / 164 SpD / 96 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Toxic
- Encore
- Rest

The Ragdoll of the team I like to say. With the ban of Damp Rock, his ability Drizzle is balanced. I chose the Eject Button for Politoed's item. The Eject Button allows immediate switching to one of your Swift Swim users. Usually what happens is a 'mon hits Politoed, Eject Button triggers, then switch out to a Swift Swim user to revenge kill. Politoad's EV's are standard with 248 HP and 164 SPD to take hits and 96 speed to outpeed 'mons that are un-invested base 80s or lower, such as banded Scizor, Skarmory, Hippowdon, and max speed adamant Azumarill. It's movepool has Scald for Damage/Burn, Toxic for another status, Encore for locking moves that give you an advantage, and Rest for recovery in case Politoed gets low on HP.

swampert-mega.gif

Swampert-Mega @ Swampertite
Ability: Damp
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Rain Dance
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch

The Power House of the team. Mega-Swampert is one of the main sweepers of this team. With only one weakness, Swampert is very difficult to take down due to its remarkable bulk. I run Adamant Mega-Swampert because it gives him more capability of taking out 'mons. With Adamant and the rain up, Swampert is able to outspeed scarfed max speed base 90s and lower. Rain Dance is used when Politoed is knocked out, Waterfall and Earthquake for Stab, and Ice Punch for Coverage, mostly hitting Flying types or Grass Types.

kingdra.gif

Kingdra @ Choice Specs
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 28 HP / 252 SpA / 228 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hydro Pump
- Surf
- Draco Meteor
- Ice Beam

Kingdra's the special attacker of the team. Choice Specs make Kingdra's moves stronger. The reason of Adamant Mega-Swampert is because Kingdra can out speed even faster 'mons, with only 228 speed to do it. 228 speed outspeeds scarfed max speed base 110s. 252 SPA Modest nature allows Kingdra to maximize its damage. The rest of EVs went to Kingdra's HP. His movepool is standard with Hydro Pump, Surf and Draco being your primary STAB, and like Mega-Swampert, Ice Beam for coverage. What is unique about Kingdra is that he take neutral damage to both electric and grass moves.

gyarados.gif

Gyarados @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 78 HP / 220 Atk / 4 Def / 208 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Bounce
- Waterfall
- Substitute

Gyarados is on this team for taking out 'mons that the team has trouble with. Leftovers is to capitalize on the fact that Gyarados has Bounce. Intimidate makes physical attackers a little easier to handle. I have 78 HP and some DEF for bulk. 220 ATK is to for Gyarados to sweep easier. 208 Speed Jolly Nature is to outspeed max speed base 70s, such as Smeargle and Mega-Herracross. Sub+DD is very annoying to handle, especially with a move such as Bounce. I chose Bounce and Waterfall for STAB. With Gyarados hating electric types and Mega-Swampert hating grass types, they create a decent core together, taking out each other's weaknesses.

manaphy.gif

Manaphy @ Salac Berry
Ability: Hydration
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Tail Glow
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Energy Ball

Manaphy is another setup 'mon on the team. I run Salac Berry on Manaphy because none of the 'mons are fast on the team without rain so Salac gives me the speed I need. Hydration+Rain enables you to setup on walls easier, being able to not worry about status. 252 Speed Timid allows me to speed tie other base 100s. 252 SPA so my moves can hit stronger. Tail Glow is my setup of choice. Scald is my STAB of choice and Ice Beam and Energy Ball for coverage.

kabutops.gif

Kabutops @ Focus Sash
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
- Rain Dance

Kabutops is my final Swift Swim user. Kabutops is both my hazard control and my hazards lead. Mono Bug was a little difficult to handle because of Galvantula. Now with Kabutops I can Rain Dance first turn, say Galvantula sets up Sticky web. Then I go for Waterfall and he uses Energy Ball, bringing us both down to sash. Due to the rain I am faster for I can Rapid Spin to kill, taking off the Sticky web. Adamant is for more power and 252 Speed for Swift Swim.

ferrothorn.png
: Very difficult to handle. Try to damage Venusaur and finish it with Swampert's EQ.
ampharos-mega.png
Electric Types
rotom-wash.png
: The best way to handle electric type is to EQ everything with Swampert on the ground and Draco with Kingdra in the air (Rotom-Wash, Zapdos).
chansey.png

porygon2.png
: Sometimes this is very hard to handle, especially when P2 has BoltBeam.

So there you have it, I hope you like the team. I would love to hear any suggestions about the team. Peace out!
