1. Introduction + Proof of Peak
I'm gonna preface this RMT by stating that this is the first time I'm posting one of these so forgive me for any rookie mistakes. I've been trying to make Ceruledge work for a while now since I believed its stonks were definitely on the rise due to the emergence of Weezing-Galar and Corviknight structures. After quite a bit of experimenting, I landed on this team which showed unexpected success on the ladder (choked the 2k game tho sike).
2. Teambuilding Process
3. Sets and Roles
Ceruledge is the first win-con of the team. It performs the dual role of matching well into both Fat and Offense - Weak Armor with Sash guarantees you trade extremely well into HO, while Wisp Immunity + Body Press immunity lets you beat fatter teams. Standard Max-Max EVs, Adamant nature is tempting but isn't worth losing the crucial speed tier over Gholdengo. Tera Fairy lets you resist sucker punches from gambit, while also baiting crunches vs Zama to set up SDs. Tera Fighting can also be considered since it lets you guarantee the OHKO at +2 on Standard Garganacls, which is otherwise a roll (see below). However, in most games, this is not the mon you will be teraing. Finally, the team lacks priority and I find Poltergeist unreliable, hence I'm running Shadow Sneak.
+2 252 Atk Ceruledge Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 52 Def Garganacl: 388-458 (96 - 113.3%) -- 75% chance to OHKO
+2 252 Atk Ceruledge Bitter Blade vs. -1 0 HP / 4 Def Great Tusk: 339-400 (91.3 - 107.8%) -- 50% chance to OHKO (Helps to chip tusk just a bit before going for this to guarantee the kill)
Hatterene provides the first anti-hazard tool while also providing a reliable switch to special attackers that ceruledge doesn't want to stay in on, even being able to survive a +2 Sludge Bomb from Darkrai and cripple it back. I'm not too sure what the spread is tailored to since I stole this from a team showcased by Blunder (s/o L'Agence), but the defensive investment lets you trade 1v1 versus most Ting-Lus that don't run rocky helmet. Double psychic moves hedges your matchup vs healers/subbers and spdef walls like Glowking, and nuzzle gives you a band-aid fix to the Wogre weakness of the team. While mystical fire can also be run, the team matches up well overall against steels so it isn't a necessity. Tera Fly is mainly to deal with Attack Booster Tusks that get out of hand, but in most cases you wouldn't be teraing this mon either.
+2 252 SpA Darkrai Sludge Bomb vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Hatterene: 262-310 (82.3 - 97.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Gholdengo Make It Rain vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Hatterene: 260-308 (81.7 - 96.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Dedicated spinner of the team, and honestly the one slot I wouldn't mind changing with a Great Tusk. The only reason Treads fits well is due to matching up better vs Pech, but from experience pech doesn't really mind treads coming in as it is able to easily pivot out with parting shot and continue to spin block, while also being able to live 2 EQs with ease. However, treads does fare better vs other spin blockers like TWave Dengo, so it comes down to a matter of preference. I like Iron Head over Ice Spinner to hit Clefables and Kyurem harder. Don't be afraid to sack treads just to be able to get a spin off, as removing hazards can set up one of your wincons to sweep easily. Tusk on the other hand lets you deal with physical attackers like gambit much better. I'm just gonna paste both sets here since both did well on the ladder in different MUs. I prefer a bulkier set that outpaces Modest RBolt, defensive tusk with lefties is generally a thing of the past but I think it has merit since it is really difficult to chip down and the longevity lets you spin more consistently. Tera poison is an out in case you mess up and let tspikes go up and you struggle to spin.
Lu is just here to get rocks up if needed, blanket check a lot of threats and serve as an emergency phaser for threatening sweepers, especially opposing Dnites. Mixed defensive investment is just to take hits better from both types of attackers, can be changed as required. Pretty self explanatory mon and set.
Strongest breaker on the team is specs kyurem. This thing does what it has always done, rip apart balances and brute force through a lot of the meta, get random freezes to hax, while also providing crucial defensive utility vs Wogre that lacks play rough. Try to get this mon in as much as possible in the middle game through aggressive double switches or even leading with it, as it serves to break through the opponent in order to clear the way for one of your wincons to sweep. In key matchups where Kyurem 6-0s, however, try to play patient with it and even tera ground early if you think its worthwhile to land a key 2hko on a glowking. Draco is only here since Blizzard without hail doesn't make sense, and can help you with the kyurem v kyurem battle.
I know this was supposed to be Ceruledge team but this guy steals the show. Tera Fairy+Lefties along with the investment in bulk lets you set up on a wide variety of mons (Like Zama, Tusk, Ogerpon-W, even opposing Dnites) often letting you get to +3 with ease. This set specifically beats all sets of Zama except roar, since you are even able to shrug off Tera Steel Heavy Slam with ease. Roost and lefties lets you abuse multiscale multiple times while setting up. You will be teraing Dnite in most games, so try to play patiently with it and secure the necessary chip on key mons like Pecharunt before you go for game. That being said, its defensive utlity is also abusable in the mid game since it can take shrug off a lot of hits due to its longevity. Speed tier is to outpace Cinderace at +1, bulk and attack investments are arbitrary tbh, I just wanted it to sponge physical hits better. Beware of fast encore users like opposing dnites and booster valiants, it is often safer to tera blast these threats straight up instead of looking to DD.
4. Gameplay and Threats
Though the team looks to be on the fatter side, you don't really have the longevity like regenerator mons to stretch the game out. Hence, its important to play at a faster pace than you would a normal BO team, spot your wincons early and try to break quick, and always be on the look out for set up opportunites with Ceruledge/Dnite. 2. Teambuilding Process
1.
- Mon I wanted to build around, serves as one of the wincons but also does an effective job as a breaker vs the right MU.
2.
- Running sash on ceruledge meant I needed strong anti-hazard measures, AV Hat fit the description perfectly while also providing a reliable special sponge that Ceruledge wants to switch out of.
3.
- Single removal almost never proves sufficient rn, which is why I wanted a secondary option in a spinner. Both Tusk and Treads fit the memo, but I ended up opting for the road less trodden since I needed a sturder switch for Pecharunt which matches up very well vs Ceru and Hat.
4.
- S tier mon that sets hazards, acts as an emergency check to opposing set up sweepers, and is impossible to kill? Yes please.
5
- I needed a special attacking breaker that also appreciated hazards being kept off the field, Specs Enamorus intially came to mind but I ended up opting for kyurem due to its superior defensive utility.
6.
For the final slot, I needed a secondary win-con, also one that preferably hated hazards. I settled on Dragonite for a few reasons - the team was looking extremely weak to Wogre, I needed a ground resist/immunity, Dnite appreciates ceruledge's ability to handle physical walls like Corv/Gweez/Moltres, and finally because its Dnite (kek).

with Play Rough is really tough MU. I generally try to trade kyurem straight up for the wogre, or sack Hatterene in order to get a crucial nuzzle off. Luckily, Play Rough is falling out of favor based on recent trends (touch wood), so it is still a manageable matchup.
or just stall in general is just a really difficult MU for this team and is probably its biggest defect. I tried a few different options like Never Melt Ice (s/o MAVERICK SHOOTERS for the idea) Kyurem with Icicle Spear, taunt tera grass ceruledge (unserious set), Encore Dnite and CM Hat all with limited success. The downsides to any of these options felt overwhelming in non-stall matchups and hence I couldn't really find a combination that worked. One of the defects I'd like to fix with this team. Your best bet is to stall out Blissey's Soft Boiled with Hat and get to breaking with Kyurem.
I wouldn't call this a certified threat since you definitely have ways to deal with it, but this is one of the main mons that can blanket wall both Dnite and Ceruledge so it is important to get it low with either one to let the other clean. People also often stay in with Pech on Hat, which lets you nuke it with Psy Noise for serious damage.
and
are two mons that are able to get hazards up vs Hatterene, which puts more pressure on you to get a spin off. Not the end of the world, but annoying nonetheless.
Didn't intend on making this RMT initially as I wasn't expecting the team to do great, so I didn't ask for permissions to post any of these. If someone wants me to take any of em down, do let me know! (Including replays with both tusk and treads versions)
