Wood Hammer and Horn Leech provide two very different roles for Tapu Bulu. The former packs a massive punch at the cost of some recoil damage that's often somewhat mitigated by Grassy Terrain, whereas the latter is used when Tapu Bulu is low on HP to get some health back and still does some respectable damage on even Pokemon resistant to it like Tornadus-T and Mega Mawile. Superpower is instrumental as Tapu Bulu's main weapon against Steel-types. It deals massive damage to the likes of Heatran, Ferrothorn, and Kartana and hits Celesteela and Jirachi for slightly less damage than Wood Hammer, without taking recoil. Stone Edge is preferred in the last slot to hit Pokemon doubly resistant to Grass-type moves like Volcarona and both Mega Charizard formes on the switch while hitting Tornadus-T without recoil and still acting as Tapu Bulu's best bet against Zapdos. Megahorn is an option that targets the ever common Tangrowth while still hitting Amoonguss and Mega Venusaur hard enough. Zen Headbutt is also an option for the aforementioned Amoonguss and Mega Venusaur as well as Mega Heracross and Buzzwole, but missing out on Tangrowth makes Megahorn far superior.

Set Details
========

Choice Band bestows Tapu Bulu with even more power behind its moves, which lets it blow past switch-ins such as Tornadus-T and Magearna. The HP investment allows Tapu Bulu to always avoid a 2HKO from Ash-Greninja prior to transformation after Stealth Rock. Meanwhile, the Speed investment allows Tapu Bulu to get the jump on the likes of Tyranitar and Crawdaunt. The remainder of EVs are pooled into Attack.

Usage Tips
========

Prediction isn't usually too necessary with Choice Band Tapu Bulu. Spamming Tapu Bulu's Grass-type STAB moves is often the right step, with Horn Leech to get some HP back and Wood Hammer for a strong hit on the likes of Tornadus-T and Tangrowth. However, occasionally catching incoming Grass-resistant Pokemon is pivotal for the fate of a match. Ferrothorn, Heatran, and Kartana get a free opportunity to come in if Tapu Bulu uses either Grass-type STAB move; ergo, nailing them with Superpower is surely smart, as the former can set up entry hazards, whereas the latter two can land a powerful blow on Tapu Bulu's team. On the other hand, Volcarona and both Mega Charizard formes are pretty free to switch into Horn Leech or Wood Hammer, so catching them with a Stone Edge doesn't make Tapu Bulu setup bait. Try to keep up momentum with double switches to not let the likes of Mega Heracross and Mega Mawile in for free. Lastly, Tapu Bulu can pivot into offensive Pokemon whose STAB combo it walls, such as Ash-Greninja, Keldeo, and Crawdaunt. It can also switch in on predicted resisted hits, like Tapu Lele's Focus Blast, for example. However, Tapu Bulu should be mindful of Hydro Pump rolls from Ash-Greninja after more than a layer of Spikes, a Scald burn from Keldeo, or a Knock Off from Crawdaunt. As a rule of thumb, letting Tapu Bulu get worn down isn't the best of ideas in most matches, but trading might be useful in some situations.

Team Options
========

Magnezone is a stellar teammate, as it rids the opposing team of troublesome Pokemon such as Kartana, Celesteela, and Mega Scizor. Another outstanding teammate is Kartana, especially Choice Scarf Kartana, as it immensely appreciates Grassy Terrain increasing the power of its Leaf Blade, allowing Choice Scarf variants to have an easier time sweeping. Choice Band and Z-Move Kartana could potentially work, but they do have quite some overlap with Tapu Bulu itself as a Grass-type wallbreaker. Ash-Greninja is a threat that every team needs to cover, but without investment in Special Defense, Tapu Bulu is far from a reliable check, so another check such as Assault Vest Magearna, Toxapex, or Tapu Fini is strongly recommended. Entry hazards really help Tapu Bulu wallbreak by chipping at would-be switch-ins. Stealth Rock setters such as Garchomp, Heatran, and Gliscor are formidable teammates, and Spikes from Ash-Greninja is very welcomed too.

  • Dual STAB is not a common sight, but Wood Hammer and Horn Leech provide two very different roles for Tapu Bulu. The former packs a massive punch at the cost of inflicting Tapu Bulu some recoil that’s often somewhat mitigated by Grassy Terrain, whereas the latter is used when Tapu Bulu is low to allow it to get some health back, but still does some respectable damage on even resistances like Tornadus-T and Mega Mawile.
  • Superpower is instrumental as Tapu Bulu’s main weapon against Steel-types. It throttles the likes of Heatran, Ferrothorn, and Kartana and hits the likes of Celesteela and Jirachi for respectable damage.
  • Stone Edge is preferred on the last slot to hit quad resists to Grass-type moves like Volcarona and both Mega Charizard upon switch in, while still acting as Tapu Bulu’s best bet against Zapdos. Not facing Wood Hammer's recoil to hit Tornadus-T is pretty good.
  • That being said, Megahorn and Zen Headbutt are also plausible options but often underperform compared to Stone Edge. The former throttles the ever common Tangrowth and is Tapu Bulu’s best bet against Jirachi Is it really? Superpower is probably better thanks to its superior accuracy., whereas the latter does massive damage to Amoonguss, Mega Venusaur, Mega Heracross, and Buzzwole, keep in mind Megahorn does damage Amoonguss and Mega Venusaur hard enough. Its a bit more reliable.

Set Details

  • Choice Band bestows Tapu Bulu with even more power behind its moves at the cost of preventing Tapu Bulu to switch moves, making it more of a hit-and-run type of wallbreaker.
  • The HP investment allows Tapu Bulu to avoid a 2HKO from Ash-Greninja prior to transformation after a layer of Spikes. Does this calc include Stealth Rock damage or not?
  • Meanwhile the Speed investment allows it to get the jump on the likes of Tyranitar and Crawdaunt.
  • The remainder of EVs are invested towards the Attack stat alongside an Adamant nature for Tapu Bulu to hit as hard as possible. This is fluff.
  • I think you should include a bulkier spread here.

Usage Tips

  • Prediction isn’t usually too necessary with Choice Band Tapu Bulu, spamming your Grass-type STAB move of choice is often the right step, Horn Leech to get some HP back and Wood Hammer for a strong hit on the likes of Tornadus-T and Tangrowth.

  • On the other hand, Volcarona and both Mega Charizard are pretty free to switch into Horn Leech or Wood Hammer so catching them with a Stone Edge makes it so Tapu Bulu is the very opposite of set up bait.
  • Tapu Bulu can’t cover everything with only four moveslots so there are plenty of Pokémon bound to wall it Nothing really walls Tapu Bulu because of how strong it is and it has ways around them too with Zen Headbutt. and thus switch in for free, thus if your opponent has a Pokémon like Mega Scizor or Mega Heracross that switches in without much struggle and that your team lacks dedicated switch ins to, pulling a switch expecing either of them is likely a wise play. For defensive Pokémon like Amoongus and Mega Venusaur these plays aren’t as much needed as most teams can generate back momentum and switch into them without too much struggle.
  • Lastly, Tapu Bulu can pivot into offensive Pokémon whose STAB combo it walls, such as Ash-Greninja, Keldeo, and Crawdaunt. However Tapu Bulu should be mindful of Hydro Pump rolls after more than a layer of Spikes, Scald burn from Keldeo, or a Knock Off from Crawdaunt. Megahorn's quite a bit better than ZHB, seperate them according to the written sections about them; "The former Megahorn throttles, [mention amoonguss/venu]" as such

Lastly, Tapu Bulu can pivot into offensive Pokémon whose STAB combo it walls,
mention how it can pivot into a few resisted moves, such as Mega Zam's Focus Blast

reword this to say "troublesome Pokemon" instead of annoying walls and replace Skarmory(bad) with Kartana(which can take huge advantage of offensive Bulu due to Grassy)

great work, QC 2/3

Hello I'm giving suggestions

Zen Headbutt is also an option for the aforementioned as well as Mega Heracross and Buzzwole, but missing out on Tangrowth makes Megahorn far superior.
ZHB is pretty horrible, so I'd move this to OO if I were you, and I'd probably mention MVenu>Buzzwole cause Edge does literally zero and Venu's a lot more relevant than Buzzwole post-Zyg ban.
Horn Leech to get some HP back
I'd also mention how you can just spam Horn Leech against some teams lacking a real resist, or late in games when you wanna be at full to take like a stray Psychic from Alakazam or be able to switch into Greninja to stop it from being able to get Ash.
Team Options
I know that talah already mentioned it, but strong kart checks are definitely needed cause bulu teams can easily get swept by scarf leaf blade kart in terrain if u dont have solid checks.

There's probably some other stuff, but this is the main stuff I wanted to comment on, great work as usual oo

I think Rock Slide would be better here, it has greater accuracy and retains the OHKO/2HKO against these mons

It throttles the likes of Heatran, Ferrothorn, and Kartana
I will not allow the usage of throttles in an analysis

abort
Choice Band bestows Tapu Bulu with even more power behind its moves at the cost of preventing Tapu Bulu to switch moves, making it more of a hit-and-run type of wallbreaker.
This aplies to basically any choiced wallbreaker, I’d explain how it allows it to blow back resists that would normally be able to pivot in, stuff like torn etc. At worst you can just remove this entirely you don’t really need to explain why a choice band wallbreaker uses choice band now that I think abt it
ergo throttling them with Superpower is surely smart,
ok this needs to stop
Tapu Bulu can’t cover everything with only four moveslots so there are's always a handful of Pokémon bound to wall it and ergo switch in for free, thus if your opponent has a Pokémon like Mega Scizor or Mega Heracross that switches in without much struggle and that your team lacks dedicated switch ins to, pulling a switch expecing either of them is likely a wise play.
This is a lot of explaining how to double so just mention something like scouting initial switchins in the early game through doubles can help maintain momentum and develop a long term gameplan to fully utilize bulu
down isn’t the best of ideas in most matchups.
I’d say in favorable matchups because if your opponent has say amoon+steela u might as well trade bulus hp for switch initiative or something

This is pretty minor, but does Volcarona really count as a free switch-in to Banded Wood Hammer? Offensive QD Volc is still listed second on Volcarona's OU set, and Banded Wood Hammer does 55-65% to it, while Offensive Volc has to hit Fire Blast to OHKO back (Bug Buzz+WH recoil isn't enough, and the next WD results in a mutual kill). Mind you, Bulky Volc does switch in freely to anything that's not Edge.

EDIT: Uh, am I not allowed to post in here? Not sure if I'm being memed with the angry reacts. If the former, I apologize and I'll delete this post.

Meanwhile, the Speed investment allows Tapu Bulu to get the jump on the likes of Tyranitar and Crawdaunt. The remainder of EVs are pooled into Attack.

I think this is unnecessary.
i think this post is unecessary

(in all seriousness, i just felt the need to explain why the attack evs are 248 and not 252, im sure plenty of readers would be confused otherwise)
