With a Chople Berry, Urshifu can survive many moves that would otherwise OHKO it, such as Sawk's and Haxorus's Choice Band-boosted Close Combat, Choice Scarf Kyurem's Focus Blast, and Choice Scarf Galarian Darmanitan's Superpower. Wicked Blow is a powerful STAB move that deals excellent damage against foes neutral to it, like Haxorus and Zeraora, and notably ignores defense boosts, making it great for beating stall Pokemon like Galarian Corsola and Slowbro. Close Combat is excellent coverage against the Dark- and Fighting-type Pokemon that resist Wicked Blow, like Hydreigon, Zarude, and non-bulky Sawk, in addition to hitting Pokemon like Chansey and Rhyperior for super-effective damage. Sucker Punch's priority lets Urshifu defeat Pokemon like Choice Scarf Dracozolt, Zeraora, and Haxorus, KOing them before they can attack a second time. Bulk Up is a solid setup move that comes in handy versus bulky Pokemon like Choice Band Rhyperior and Counter Snorlax. 252 HP EVs alongside 108 Defense EVs allow Urshifu to survive Choice Scarf Dracozolt's Bolt Beak, while 120 SpD ensures survival against Choice Specs Magnezone. The remaining EVs are invested in Attack to maximize damage. An EV spread of 244 HP / 28 Atk / 236 Def can alternatively be used, allowing Urshifu to beat Choice Band Galarian Darmanitan and Choice Band Unnerve Haxorus, while having a better offensive Rillaboom match-up as well. However, this spread loses to some notable special attackers like Choice Specs Magnezone and Choice Scarf Rotom-Wash, while having a small chance to lose to Choice Scarf Kyurem.

A number of match-ups merit further explanation. Versus Dragapult, Urshifu should Wicked Blow T1. If Dragapult reveals Substitute, Urshifu should respond by clicking Sucker Punch on a predicted Disable, thereby letting it retain use of Wicked Blow and allowing it to win, or clicking Wicked Blow again on a predicted second Substitute. Rillaboom is especially tricky: the defensive set is beaten by simply spamming Wicked Blow, but the Choice Band set must be predicted carefully for optimal chances of victory. A Rillaboom that clicks Grassy Glide will be beaten by using Bulk Up on the first turn, followed by Wicked Blow and Sucker Punch. On the other hand, if Rillaboom clicks Wood Hammer it can only lose to two Wicked Blows (note that in the latter case, there's a chance that Wood Hammer simply OHKOs unless the more defensive spread is being used). Life Orb Rillaboom is simply beaten by spamming Wicked Blow until Rillaboom's HP is low enough to finish it off with Sucker Punch. Because of Urshifu's lacking special bulk, it struggles versus powerful special attackers like Porygon Z, Choice Specs Rotom-Heat, and Choice Specs Kyurem, so it appreciates teammates capable of patching up that weakness, such as Sylveon, Goodra, or Snorlax. Additionally, Urshifu's ability to beat many Sturdy Pokemon makes it a natural partner for pokemon like Choice Band Galarian Darmanitan, Choice Specs Porygon-Z, Dracovish, and Dracozolt.

Wicked Blow is a powerful STAB move that deals excellent damage against foes neutral to it (examples) and notably ignores defense boosts, making it great for beating stall Pokemon like Galarian Corsola and Slowbro. Close Combat is excellent coverage against the Dark- and Fighting-type Pokemon that resist Wicked Blow, like Hydreigon, and Zarude, and Sawk (Sawk can Low Sweep twice) in addition to hitting Pokemon like Chansey or and Rhyperior for super-effective damage. Sucker Punch's priority allows Urshifu to defeat lets Urshifu outspeed Pokemon like Choice Scarf Dracozolt, Zeraora, and Haxorus, KOing them before they can attack a second time. Bulk Up is a solid setup move that comes in handy versus bulky Pokemon like Choice Band Rhyperior and Counter Chople Berry Snorlax. 252 HP EVs help maximize Urshifu's mixed bulk, while alongside 108 Defense EVs let it allow Urshifu to survive Choice Scarf Dracozolt's Bolt Beak, The while 120 SpD ensures survival against Special Defense EVs allow Urshifu to tank Choice Specs Magnezone. 's Hyper Beam. The remaining EVs are invested in Attack to maximize damage. An EV spread of 244 HP / 28 Atk / 236 Def with Snarl over Bulk Up can alternatively be used, allowing Urshifu to beat Choice Band Galarian Darmanitan, Choice Specs Kyurem, (it outspeeds and OHKOS with draco?) and Choice Band Unnerve Haxorus, while having a better Choice Band Rillaboom match-up as well. (If we can say "Offensive Rillaboom" instead, that'd be way better. Run calcs against Life Orb and see how it fares, though I'm not too optimistic about this matchup.) However, this spread can lose to some notable special attackers like Choice Scarf Rotom-Wash and Choice Scarf Kyurem. (This is kind of a "nothing" point and doesn't really make sense in context of the alternate spread. It's not implied that you beat special attackers just because you have snarl. Also don't you beat Kyurem anyway? CC into Sucker?) Losing Bulk Up also complicates the match-up versus a number of stall bulkier Pokemon, such as Chansey, Snorlax, Defensive Arcanine and Avalugg.

A number of match-ups merit further explanation. Versus Dragapult, Urshifu should Wicked Blow T1. If Dragapult reveals Substitute, Urshifu should respond by clicking Sucker Punch on a predicted Disable, thereby letting it retain use of Wicked Blow and allowing it to win. (And if they go for a double sub? Explain how that works.) Rillaboom is especially tricky: the Leech Seed set Defensive is beaten by simply spamming Wicked Blow, but the Choice Band set must be predicted carefully for optimal chances of victory. Because of Urshifu's lacking special bulk, it struggles versus powerful special attackers like Porygon Z, Choice Specs Rotom-Heat, and Choice Specs Kyurem, so it appreciates teammates capable of patching up that weakness, such as Sylveon and Goodra. or Chansey. (Chansey isn't a great example as it gets tricked by the former two) Additionally, Urshifu's ability to beat many Sturdy Pokemon makes it a natural partner for pokemon like Choice Band Galarian Darmanitan, Choice Specs Porygon-Z, and other Pokemon that aim for OHKOs. (This is far too general. Remove it or find other teammates, up to you.)
