[OVERVIEW]
An expansive offensive and setup movepool and solid mixed offensive stats make Kommo-o a versatile offensive threat that can wallbreak or clean late-game. This is complemented by its solid bulk, great typing, and ability, which let it naturally check and take advantage of Pokemon like Aegislash, Rotom-H, and Tangrowth. Clangorous Soul Kommo-o is a dangerous wallbreaker and late-game wincon that can easily set up and clean once checks like Primarina, Azumarill, and Galarian Slowbro have been weakened, while mixed Kommo-o is a solid offensive Stealth Rock setter and wallbreaker that can pressure the metagame with its fantastic coverage. Despite all its positive traits, Kommo-o faces heavy competition from Salamence, which offers similar defensive utility against Pokemon like Zarude but is more more consistent due to Intimidate and Roost. It also faces competition from Keldeo as a Fighting-type wallbreaker due to it having a much better Speed tier to outspeed Pokemon like Nihilego and Krookodile. Kommo-o's middling Speed tier also makes it easily revenge killed by a reasonable portion of the tier, including Pokemon like Salamence and Moltres; the latter is particularly troublesome, as it can easily switch into Kommo-o consistently. Kommo-o also lacks recovery and is easily worn down through chip damage and entry hazards; common Pokemon like Lycanroc-D also often run coverage such as Psychic Fangs, meaning Kommo-o can struggle to reliably check these Pokemon before their sets are revealed.

[SET COMMENTS]
Clangorous Soul turns Kommo-o into a powerful wallbreaker and cleaner. The Defense and Speed boosts help to severely limit its offensive counterplay, letting it comfortably take priority moves like Mamoswine's Ice Shard. Boomburst gives Kommo-o a solid option to hit Fairy-types like Primarina and Azumarill and also activates Throat Spray in matchups where Kommo-o is unlikely to be able to set up. Flamethrower hits Steel-types like Jirachi and Celesteela. Close Combat + Poison Jab with Life Orb is an alternative that allows Kommo-o to break through Primarina more easily after a boost, beat Chansey and weakened Diancie, and exert more early-game pressure without wasting its item. However, Close Combat drops Kommo-o's Defense, similarly to Clanging Scales, which is not ideal against Pokemon like Choice Scarf Krookodile. Throat Spray gives Kommo-o +2 Special Attack when using Clangorous Soul; however, it can prevent Kommo-o from using Clanging Scales and Boomburst before setting up if it needs the boost later in the game. Bulletproof lets Kommo-o set up on Tangrowth and other Pokemon like Chandelure. Overcoat is an option to let Kommo-o set up against Amoonguss and Rocky Helmet Tangrowth. If running a mixed set, Kommo-o should run a Naive nature so as to not weaken its physical attacks while taking priority moves from Pokemon like Mamoswine as best as possible.
Clangorous Soul Kommo-o is a solid fit on bulky offense and hyper offense teams that appreciate a deadly wallbreaker and wincon and can offer it the support it needs in breaking through checks like Primarina and Azumarill. Jirachi is a good Stealth Rock setter that can provide it with valuable Healing Wish support, letting it more comfortably run mixed sets with Life Orb and wallbreak early-game. It can also give Kommo-o setup opportunities against Pokemon like Amoonguss and Aegislash with U-turn. Kommo-o appreciates teammates that can break through or sufficiently weaken special walls like Chansey and Diancie. Nasty Plot Thundurus is a great option, providing dangerous early-game wallbreaking that can pave the way for Kommo-o to clean late-game. Belly Drum Azumarill provides another wallbreaker and late-game sweeper for hyper offense teams that can give Kommo-o setup opportunities against its checks like Amoonguss and Tangrowth.
[SET]
name: Mixed Offensive
move 1: Clanging Scales
move 2: Close Combat
move 3: Poison Jab / Flamethrower
move 4: Stealth Rock
item: Eject Pack / Life Orb
ability: Bulletproof
nature: Naive

[SET COMMENTS]
Clanging Scales is a great spammable move for Kommo-o, preventing offensive checks like Salamence from switching in and being its best option against targets like Nidoqueen and Chandelure. Close Combat offers mixed coverage, letting it pressure some special walls like Chansey and Celesteela. Poison Jab gives it near-perfect coverage, hitting Fairy-types like Primarina and Tapu Bulu. Flamethrower is an option on teams that appreciate Kommo-o being able to hit Aegislash and pressure Amoonguss and Tangrowth better. Eject Pack is a fantastic item that lets it pivot after using either of its STAB moves, keeping up momentum against targets like Galarian Slowbro on offensive teams. Life Orb is an option to do significantly more damage against Pokemon like Celesteela and Primarina, giving a solid chance to 2HKO Rest + Sleep Talk Primarina. Bulletproof lets Kommo-o serve a a switch-in to Pokemon like Chandelure, Tangrowth, and if running Flamethrower, Aegislash. A Naive nature lets Kommo-o better check Zarude without weakening its attacks.
Mixed Kommo-o fits on a range of bulky offense and balance teams that appreciate a powerful wallbreaker, an offensive Stealth Rock setter, and an offensive check to Pokemon like Zarude and Aegislash that maintains momentum. Pivots such as Rotom-W and Jirachi can bring Kommo-o in on Pokemon like Tangrowth and Amoonguss for wallbreaking opportunities. Wallbreakers like Aegislash and Choice Band Krookodile appreciate Kommo-o bringing them in on Pokemon like Galarian Slowbro with Eject Pack. Pokemon capable of switching into Kommo-o's revenge killers like Aegislash and Primarina are essential. Zarude can check Aegislash, which is especially useful if Kommo-o is running Poison Jab, and offensively pressure Primarina. Amoonguss and Assault Vest Tangrowth can check Primarina for Kommo-o and offer Knock Off or sleep support against Kommo-o's checks, like Moltres and Salamence. Nihilego can switch into and offensively pressure Moltres and Salamence, and it appreciates Kommo-o running Stealth Rock so it can run Toxic Spikes.

Other Options
=============
Kommo-o can run defensive sets to better check Pokemon like Aegislash and Zarude: running maximum Speed investment and Draco Meteor / Flamethrower / Stealth Rock / Toxic lets Kommo-o outspeed and pressure Pokemon like Rotom-W and Rotom-H and hit Salamence on the switch, while running maximum Defense investment with Body Press instead of Draco Meteor checks Pokemon like Lycanroc-D. These sets, however, are fairly passive against teams running Pokemon like Primarina and, if running Body Press, Salamence. A Dragon Dance set with Close Combat, Outrage, and Poison Jab is a dangerous cleaner for hyper offense teams that can also immediately wallbreak with Life Orb-boosted attacks. This set faces competition from the Clangorous Soul set, which can set up more easily and is much harder to revenge kill, and other Dragon Dance users like Salamence. Soundproof is a niche choice on mixed sets to check opposing Clangorous Soul Kommo-o for teams that would otherwise struggle with it. It also helps against the rare Toxtricity and Sylveon. Roar on defensive sets can rack up entry hazard damage on teams with Spikes and force out Pokemon like Nasty Plot + RestTalk Galarian Moltres and Calm Mind Galarian Slowbro. Toxic tends to be more valuable to cripple switch-ins like Salamence, however, and Kommo-o cannot phaze other setup sweepers like Calm Mind Reuniclus and Belly Drum Azumarill. Iron Defense can also be run on defensive sets to turn Kommo-o into a potential wincon with Body Press, but it still leaves Kommo-o easily revenge killed by options like Salamence and takes up a precious moveslot over options like Toxic and Stealth Rock.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Fairy-types**: While they must be wary of directly switching into Poison Jab from mixed variants, Primarina and Azumarill can easily force out mixed Kommo-o and beat Clangorous Soul Kommo-o if they are at a reasonable amount of HP. The rarer Diancie can easily check Clangorous Soul variants if they are fully special and force out mixed variants. Galarian Weezing walls mixed and defensive sets and can easily remove Stealth Rock with Defog.
**Bulky Psychic-types**: Calm Mind Galarian Slowbro can easily set up on mixed Kommo-o, while Assault Vest variants can check and beat both mixed and Clangorous Soul sets. While rarer, Assault Vest Reuniclus can similarly do this.
**Dragon-types**: Salamence and Noivern are capable of easily revenge killing Kommo-o if it has not boosted its Speed, although they are usually unable to switch in safely.
**Faster Pokemon**: Kommo-o's average Speed leaves it revenge killed by a large number of offensive threats in the tier, such as Moltres, Starmie, Psychic Fangs Lycanroc-D, and Choice Band Krookodile. The latter two cannot directly switch into it, though, and Krookodile needs a decent amount of chip damage first.
