Cloyster [QC 2/2][GP 2/2]

[OVERVIEW]
Cloyster has a solid niche in ADV OU because it is a Spiker with unique traits. Being a Water-type means that it naturally matches up well against opposing Water-types by freely setting Spikes against the likes of Swampert, Suicune, and Milotic, and not being a Steel-type means that it isn't trapped by Magneton unlike Skarmory and Forretress. However, it misses out on the immunities to sand and Toxic that the Steel typing provides and the many useful resistances to common attacking types.

Compared to the other Spikers in the tier, Cloyster is not only a better choice against Magneton but also a much more threatening attacker with its good Speed combined with the coverage of its STAB Water- and Ice-type attacks that can threaten most foes. Notably, it threatens a very common spinner in Claydol but fails to threaten another common one in Starmie. Additionally, its Explosion can be used to create a hole in the enemy team by severely damaging a wall, preventing the opponent from setting up with their sweeper, or ending the turn and giving your own sweeper a free opportunity to set up.

Despite all this, Cloyster has many shortcomings that hold it back from seeing more usage as a Spiker in OU. First, it struggles to make progress against Rapid Spin Starmie; second, its Water / Ice typing sports many weaknesses to common attacking types such as Rock, Electric, and Grass and, paired with its low Special Defense, means it is threatened by the majority of the tier; third, it's easily worn down by residual damage because it lacks access to a recovery move and is weak to sand, Spikes, and Toxic, which is why it isn't seen much on teams that want to simply outlast the opposition.

[SET COMMENTS]
Set Description
=============
Cloyster can switch safely into bulky Water-types like Swampert, Suicune, and Milotic or physical threats like Snorlax and Flygon and proceed to set up Spikes for its teammates; then, it can explode for big damage and simultaneously let a sweeper come in at full health.

Surf allows Cloyster to 2HKO bulkless Tyranitar and dent Steel-types. Rapid Spin can be very useful in situations when a Skarmory or Forretress is trying to set Spikes alongside you, giving you the option to deny theirs and keep yours up; due to its decent Speed, Cloyster can also switch in against slow threats to sacrifice itself in order to spin away three layers of Spikes in a situation where its team really needs it. However, keep in mind that Cloyster is not the world's best spinner, as it has poor longevity and is weak to Gengar, the only spinblocker in OU. Alternatively, Ice Beam can be used to 2HKO Zapdos and OHKO Flygon while hitting Celebi for meaningful damage.

Coming off a nice base 95 Attack, Explosion does a lot of damage to every threat that doesn't resist it, even with no Attack investment and a hindering nature; this means that if Cloyster blows up on a predicted switch, it can trade with all its offensive checks except Gengar and Jirachi. Additionally, blowing up on a wall like Blissey, Snorlax, Celebi, or a bulky Water-type enables a follow-up threat to come in safely and set up for a sweep.

Cloyster's high Speed investment allows it to set Spikes against the likes of Tyranitar and Metagross and outspeed slow Water-types like Swampert, Milotic, and most Suicune; notably, this benchmark guarantees Cloyster to outspeed all variants of Tyranitar and Swampert. 72 HP and 244 Special Defense EVs allow Cloyster to always survive Timid Starmie's Thunderbolt outside of sand; this is crucial, as Starmie is Cloyster's best check. The Special Defense investment also means that Cloyster will survive two Hydro Pumps from maximum Special Attack Suicune and Swampert, while 8 Special Attack EVs are to always 2HKO bulkless Tyranitar with Surf.

Keep in mind that Cloyster has poor longevity because of the lack of a recovery move combined with its weak defensive typing and weakness to Spikes, sand, and status. In fact, most of the time Cloyster won't have the opportunity to set all three layers of Spikes because it is so easily threatened by a large majority of the metagame; as such, Cloyster commonly sets up one layer of Spikes and explodes immediately after. However, Cloyster can be punished if it's too eager to blow up early-game when it is facing a team with a spinner; if Cloyster has exploded too early and the spinner manages to get a Rapid Spin off, Cloyster's partners will very much struggle to sweep without the necessary chip damage provided by Spikes.

Team Options
===========
Cloyster is featured on offensive teams that make use of the presence of Spikes and its fast Explosion enabling offensive setup; the games tend to be quick, as Cloyster has poor longevity and doesn't transition well in the long game.

Since Cloyster's partners rely on Spikes chip damage to boost their offensive prowess, it is natural to team up with a spinblocker to prevent opposing spinners from ruining your day; therefore, Gengar, the only spinblocker in OU, is an excellent addition to every Cloyster team. The most common set that Gengar runs on Cloyster teams is Explosion + three attacks; this set has three coverage moves to hurt most of the metagame with Spikes up, as well as having the option to lure in and blow up a special wall like Blissey to clear the way for special sweepers like Jolteon and Starmie. Alternatively, Hypnosis or Will-O-Wisp + Taunt can force a Natural Cure Pokemon to keep switching out, taking even more Spikes damage as a result.

Fast sweepers like Jolteon, offensive Starmie, and Aerodactyl fit well on Cloyster's Spikes teams because they can clean up late-game once their grounded checks have been weakened from Spikes; additionally, the momentum generated by Cloyster getting a quick layer and then exploding is very well exploited by Speed-boosting sweepers like Dragon Dance Tyranitar, Agility Metagross, and even Agility mixed Zapdos. Jolteon, Zapdos, and Moltres can wear down opposing special walls with Roar and rack up Spikes damage on the entire enemy team; alternatively, Jolteon and Zapdos can use Baton Pass to generate momentum by letting a powerful wallbreaker like Metagross or Tyranitar get in safely, and Jolteon can also act as a pseudo special check thanks to Volt Absorb. Offensive Starmie cannot phaze or generate momentum with Baton Pass, but if the opposing special wall has been weakened or removed it is one of the most threatening sweepers in the game with Spikes up due to the combination of its flawless coverage, speed, and power.

Aerodactyl and Dragon Dance Tyranitar are popular late-game cleaners on this archetype; they love the chip damage on Swampert and Metagross and the dissuading of easy switches that Cloyster's Spikes provide. Additionally, Explosion on the right target can give Tyranitar the crucial setup turn. Due to its amazing Speed, Aerodactyl can also act as a revenge killer and defensive insurance against opposing sweepers like Super Celebi, Super Jirachi, and offensive Starmie.

Cloyster pairs well with mixed attackers and wallbreakers like mixed Salamence, mixed Metagross, mixed Tyranitar, and mixed Swampert; all these threats benefit greatly from Spikes making it even harder for the opponent to pivot around their coverage. Mixed Tyranitar deserves a special mention, as it is a great lead that can set sand, which is crucial to chip opposing walls like Celebi, Suicune, Milotic, Blissey, and Snorlax. Additionally, Explosion users such as Metagross, Snorlax, Gengar, Claydol, Weezing, and Regice fit nicely with Cloyster alongside a last Pokemon sweeper like Calm Mind Suicune.

Cloyster is sometimes featured on more conventional TSS (Toxic, Sandstorm, Spikes) builds because it's a Spiker that is not trapped by Magneton; to make up for its frailty and lack of a recovery move it is often paired with a Wish user such as Blissey or Jirachi, but remember that poison still ruins it. Pursuit Tyranitar is sometimes used to trap Gengar, allowing Cloyster to be a more reliable spinner.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
===========
Cloyster doesn't have a lot of other options, as its movepool is limited, and its niche in the metagame is very defined. Sometimes it can run a surprising Hidden Power in the third moveslot to catch certain threats off guard; for example, Hidden Power Fire can 2HKO Forretress, Hidden Power Grass can 2HKO Swampert, and Hidden Power Electric can 2HKO Gyarados. Toxic can also replace Rapid Spin or Ice Beam to cripple common switch-ins like Zapdos and Jolteon; however, it does nothing against Steel-types, Gengar is immune to it, and Starmie shrugs it off with its ability Natural Cure.

Checks and Counters
=================

**Special Attackers**: Cloyster's weakness to Thunderbolt combined with its awful Special Defense stat means that it is threatened by most special attackers in the tier. Zapdos and Jolteon outspeed it and threaten to OHKO it, and although Magneton can outspeed Cloyster only with a beneficial nature, it can switch in safely because it resists both Ice Beam and Explosion; however, it is worth noting that Surf can 2HKO non-bulky variants. Gengar is a very annoying offensive check because it can spinblock in addition to threatening Cloyster with its powerful special attacks. Offensive variants of Jirachi can also threaten Cloyster with Thunderbolt, Thunder, and Hidden Power Grass while resisting Ice Beam and Explosion.

**Residual Damage**: Unfortunately, Cloyster is weak to every type of residual damage: sand, Spikes, and status. As Cloyster can't afford to run Rest, it can't shrug off Toxic, and, combined with Spikes and sand, this means its longevity is very poor.

**Spinners**: Despite Cloyster's very good matchup against Claydol, the other spinners are quite annoying to deal with. Forretress resists both Ice Beam and Explosion and is only 5HKOed by Surf, meaning it has plenty of time to use Rapid Spin but must be really careful of letting Gengar switch in for free. Starmie is the most difficult spinner for Cloyster to deal with; the defensive variants take little damage from both of Cloyster's STAB attacks and can regain health with Recover, as well as threatening a 2HKO in sand with Psychic, while the offensive variants can threaten Cloyster with a vicious Thunderbolt that can OHKO in sand. One can perform a risky pivot into an Electric-type or Gengar on a Rapid Spin; however, blowing up on Starmie with Explosion is occasionally reasonable, but keep in mind that Cloyster's teammates frequently lack the offensive prowess to punch through the opposing walls without the presence of Spikes on the field.

A=X+Y+Z Y: Hard Work
not a qc, but i think u should tell the flaws of cloy in overview.
On top of this, Cloyster has an excellent matchup against one of the most common spinners: Claydol.
although cloy is good against dol 1v1, if it has gone, dol will threaten many cloy teams, especially jolt ones with spin.
on top of the nasty 10% freeze chance that can end a game on the spot
i won't include this bc there is only a few chances to use ib on fast-paced teams, where cloy fits on, so 10% freeze is occasional.
Its role is to switch in to bulky waters like Swampert, Suicune and Milotic or defensive versions of Blissey, Snorlax, Celebi, Jirachi and provide spikes support for the team.
idk if defensive cele is a typical example, but some defensive cele are also trying to outspeed +spe ttar
104 SpA Celebi Hidden Power Grass vs. 72 HP / 244 SpD Cloyster: 214-252 (82.6 - 97.2%)
In addition to all this gengar is a vital component of special offence because it can remove Blissey either with mean look+perish song or explosion+Dugtrio.
imo mean look+perish song or boom+dug isn't typical on cloy teams. what i've usually seen is fire/grass/boom
the Tyranitar sets that are paired with Cloyster are generally dragon dance or mixed as they are the ones that can dish out the most damage and force the most switches.
dd ones are usually seen late-game and don't force most switches. bulky physical attacker ( 4 atk ) is a more typical example that forces switches, which pairs well with spikes, though checks like gon are immune to spikes. some cloy teams also use ttar lead bc pert may switch in, thus giving cloy chances
Other notable Cloyster offensive partners are: mixed Metagross, mixed Salamence, mixed and endeavor Swampert, utily Snorlax, Starmie, Moltres, Charizard, Aerodactyl, super Celebi, super Jirachi, offensive calm mind Suicune and Raikou.
they can be partners, but there should be more emphasis and explanations. imo offensive mie may be a partner, but defensive variants may not. zard isn't worth mentioning bc it's a bl mon and compared to molt, it generally fits on spikeless.
As Cloyster can't afford to run rest anymore, it can't shrug off poison or burn and, combining these with spikes and sand, means that it cannot survive for long in a battle.
i don't think burn is worth mentioning. cloy may not soak WoW from gar and molt.
Starmie is arguebly the hardest counter to Cloyster as it can outspeed and okho with thunderbolt+sand, but can also choose to spin predicting a switch.
since mie is arguably the hardest counter to cloy, it should be mentioned before forre.

Not to mention it gains access to arguably the most overpowered move in advance: Explosion.
add on: which allows Cloyster to simultaneously deal a heavy blow while bringing in a threat safely.
second it resists nicely Water and Ice type attacks, meaning most of the Water types in the tier cannot touch it
don't think "touch" is the right word, because offensive waters still do a lot to it, more like take the opportunities to set up.
Other notable Cloyster offensive partners are: mixed Metagross, mixed Salamence, mixed and Endeavor Swampert, utily Snorlax, offensive Starmie, Moltres, Aerodactyl, super Celebi, super Jirachi, offensive Calm Mind Suicune and Raikou. All this pokemon benefit greatly from the spikes Cloyster provides and have good synergy together. Finally Zapdos deserves a special mention as it is a very good lead and can Baton Pass to make sure Cloyster switches in safely.
Elaborate on these. I think the fast threats that are vastly improved by Spikes come first: Aerodactyl, Moltres, Starmie, Zapdos. Then you can talk about the other threats.

edit: just to say a bit more on what I meant by "elaborate": The fast sweepers Aero/Starmie/Zap/Superjira/Supercel usually outspeed but fall short of 1hkoing their foes, and tend to have a move that hits Spikes-immune mons very hard, so Spikes can bring a lot of things into 1hko range. Moltres is slightly different; sometimes it can sweep slower teams or teams that have their faster Molt check paralyzed or removed, but in the mid-game it also phazes like Jolteon and puts a lot of pressure on its checks with Will-O-Wisp. The mixed attackers mixtar (you didnt to mention this), mixmence, mixpert, as well as 4atk ttar are great for exploting Spikes because their full coverage means they'll frequently be able to force out threats in front of them and rack up Spikes damage as the opponent tries to pivot around the coverage.

Your new additions mostly make sense, but you tend to jump here and there, so I rearranged a couple of things. While you make a lot of good points, they are worded in a way that does not bring out main points. Try to group the main points together and pay attention to the subject of each sentence next time.

Bold = Make the exact change
Green = Comments
Stirkethrough = Remove

P.S. Forretress is spelled with an extra s behind, and they tend to use "Defense" with a s instead of c here.

[OVERVIEW]
Cloyster has a solid niche in the ADV OU metagame due to it being a spiker with very unique traits. Notably it has a very good match up against Water types and it is the only spiker in OU that is not trapped by the omnipresent Magneton.

Additionally, Cloyster has an excellent match up against one of the most common spinners: Claydol. But Cloyster is not a simple counter pick against Magneton/Claydol teams: it is also an offensive threat. As mentioned earlier, reword this. It is not an offensive threat, it just has stronger offensive presence than the other Spikers. With its good Speed combined with the coverage of its STAB Water/Ice type attacks Cloyster can dent all of its switch-ins for meaningful damage. Most importantly it gains access to Explosion which can be used to create a hole in the enemy team and prevent the opponent from setting up, letting an offensive threat come in without taking damage.

However Cloyster has many downsides that hold it back from seeing more usage: first it struggles against Rapid Spid Starmie, second it often gives free switch-ins to hard hitting special attackers like Zapdos and Gengar, and third it has poor longevity meaning that it is often forced to explode early in the game for minimal value.

name: Spiker
move 1: Spikes
move 2: Surf
move 3: Rapid Spin/Ice Beam
move 4: Explosion
item: Leftovers
ability: Shell Armor
nature: Timid
evs: 72 HP / 8 SpA / 244 SpD / 184 Spe

Set Description
=============
Cloyster can switch safely into bulky Water types like Swampert, Suicune and Milotic or certain physical threats like Snorlax and Flygon and then procede to set up Spikes for its teammates. It can then Explode for a chunk and let in sweepers at full HP. It can also switch into physical attackers like Snorlax and Flygon because of its good Defense stat but must be careful of Focus Punch from the former.
The opening sentence should be a short summary of what the set does. Don't talk about things like being careful of Focus Punch, that's too much detail. The key point should be Spiking and ---Exploding---.

Then talk about the set moves and EVs after that

Surf is the preferred coverage option allowing Cloyster to 2HKO bulkless Tyranitar as well as denting Steel types harder than Ice Beam.
Ice Beam is a secondary STAB that 2HKOes Zapdos and OHKOes Salamence and Flygon as well as hitting Celebi for meaningful damage.
Rapid Spin can be very useful in situations when a Skarmory or a Forretres is trying to set up Spikes alongside you, giving you the option to deny theirs and keep up yours. Due to its decent Speed, Cloyster can also switch in against slow threats to sacrifice itself in order to spin away three layers of Spikes in a situation where its team really needs it.
However keep in mind that Cloyster is not the world's best spinner as it has poor longevity and it's weak to Gengar, the only spin blocker in OU.

A big part of what makes Cloyster viable is its good Speed combined with Explosion. Speed helps more than just Explosion; besides, you're not explaining how speed actually helps here. It helps Cloyster blow up on waters, and it also helps Cloyster to Spike up against Tyranitar and Metagross. I have talked about advantages of speed in the EVs section instead.
Coming off a nice 95 base Attack stat, Explosion does a lot of damage to every threat that doesn't resist it, even with 0 Attack investment and a hindering nature. This means that if Cloyster blows up on a predicted switch it can trade with all its offensive checks except Gengar and Jirachi. Additionally blowing up on a wall like Blissey, Snorlax, Celebi or a Bulky Water type enables a follow-up sweeper to come in safely and wreak havoc.

Cloyster's high speed investment allows it to set up Spikes and Explode against Tyranitar, Metagross, and bulky Water-types. 184 Speed and a Timid nature is to outspeed max Speed Tyranitar and unboosted Endeavor Swampert. Previous sentence added by me to talk about speed advantages.
72 HP and 244 Special Defence allow Cloyster to always survive Timid Starmie Thunderbolt outside of sand: this is crucial as Starmie is Cloyster's best counter. The Special Defence investment means Cloyster will survive 2 Hydro Pumps from max Special Attack Suicune and Swampert while 8 Special Attack is to always 2HKO bulkless Tyranitar with Surf; 184 Speed and a Timid nature is to outspeed max Speed Tyranitar and unboosted Endeavor Swampert. Moved this to the front because this is probably a more important emphasis. Try to emphasize the important and unintuitive points first -- anyone can figure out that you should put SpD in Cloyster because it's so low, but the notable thing here is its speed.

Then talk about the usage

Keep in mind that Cloyster is very frail because of the lack of a recovery move, combined with its weak defensive typing, and its weakness to Spikes, Sandstorm and Status. In fact, most of the times Cloyster won't have the opportunity to set up more than one layer of Spikes because it is so easily threatened by the large majority of the metagame. As such, Cloyster commonly sets up one layer of Spikes and Explodes immediately after. However, Cloyster can be punished if it's too eager to blow up early in the game when it is facing a team with a spinner. If Cloyster has exploded too early and the spinner manages to get a Rapid Spin off, Cloyster's partners will very much struggle to sweep without the necessary chip damage provided by Spikes. It's weakness to Thunderbolt combined with its awful Special Defence stat means that it is threatened by most Special attackers including Zapdos, Jolteon, Gengar, Starmie and Jirachi. Additionally its weakness to Rock and Fighting type attacks means that it is threatened by physical attackers like Tyranitar, Aerodactyl, Heracross and Breloom. Mention this cut-out sentence in checks and counters / intro instead. Remember, this is the set description. You should mostly talk about set-specific things here, which is what this set is about, and how to use this set. Zapdos is going to beat Cloyster no matter its set.

A big part of what makes Cloyster viable is its good Speed combined with Explosion.

Considering Cloyster short longevity in a battle and its limited usefulness outside of setting Spikes, it is temping to just set up a layer and then explode right after.
This implies that it is a mistake to set up a layer and explode right after. Generally, this is -not- a mistake, especially when it is inferred that the opponent likely does not have a spinner, so the phrasing is misleading. Besides, this point actually follows from the previous paragraph, so join them together. See my addition above.
However Cloyster can be punished if it's too eager to blow up early in the game when it is facing a team with a spinner. If Cloyster has exploded too early and the spinner manages to get a Rapid Spin off, Cloyster's partners will very much struggle to sweep without the necessary chip damage provided by Spikes. Moved this up.

72 HP and 244 Special Defence allow Cloyster to always survive Timid Starmie Thunderbolt outside of sand: this is crucial as Starmie is Cloyster's best counter.

Cloyster is often paired with Electric types or Gengar that can punish Starmie going for a Rapid Spin; however sometimes is just better for Cloyster to stay in and use Explosion effectively trading one for one with the opposing Starmie.
You are phrasing it in set description as if the pairing is the most important thing. It is not -- pairing should be in team options, which makes it look confusing (why are you mentioning a partner in set description so suddenly?). What should be emphasized in set description is how the set is used. The subject is "how to deal with Starmie". So you can go with something like "Starmie is the most difficult Spinner for Cloyster to deal with, potentially preventing Spikes from coming up. One can perform a risky pivot into Electric-Types or Gengar on Rapid Spin; Exploding is occasionally reasonable, but Cloyster's teammates frequently lack the offensive prowess to punch through the opponent." The second thing is don't say obvious things -- it's obvious that Cloyster can Explode on Starmie, but at the expense of Spikes, so it's not ideal at all and frequently it's a difficult situation to get out of.

Team options
===========
Cloyster is featured on offensive teams that abuse the presence of Spikes on the opponent's field. The play style tends to be fast and aggressive as Cloyster teams don't like to play the long game.

Cloyster pairs well with Jolteon on the so called "Spikes stack" or "Jolteon Spikes" archetype. The game plan is to generate momentum by forcing switches and racking up Spikes damage until the time comes for a sweep. Jolteon is an ideal partner because it is
a great Spikes abuser and all its checks are grounded and Spikes weak. Additionally Jolteon can phaze with Roar to rack up Spikes damage on special walls like Blissey, Celebi, Snorlax and Jirachi until they are in KO range. To top this off, Jolteon's ability Volt Absorb allows it to switch in to recover health on the Electric type attacks that threaten Cloyster. Talk about Aero here.

Gengar is another common partner in this archetype: it is once again a great Spikes abuser, it can cripple defensive walls with Will-O-Wisp+Taunt or heavily damage them with Explosion and most importantly it can spin block to keep Spikes up. Mention offensive Gengar, the three attacks + boom/hypno kind. It's a lot more common with Cloyster because of the offensive pace.
Spin blocking is key on Cloyster teams as the spiker has poor longevity and is prone to blow up early in the game, so once the Spikes are spinned away they generally won't come back: the game plan is to set them and then spin block so they never go away.

Sand is also key in Cloyster offenses as otherwise Leftovers would negate a lot of the damage that Spikes do over the course of the game, so is it not surprising that Tyranitar is very common in these archetypes. The Tyranitar sets that are most effective on Spikes teams are Dragon Dance or mixed, however Pursuit Tyranitar can be helpful to remedy Cloyster weakness to Gengar.

Other partners that fit well in the "Spikes stack" archetype are the lengendary birds Zapdos and Moltres. Zapdos is a great lead that can generate momentum by forcing switches and using Baton Pass to let a threat get in safely. Moltres can spread the burn status with Will-O-Wisp and helps the team by offensively dealing with Celebi and Jirachi. Both legendary birds learn Roar which is at its best when used together with Spikes to rack up chip damage.

Cloyster is sometimes featured on "Superman" teams as a spiker that can deal with opposing Water types. The Superman nickname comes from the fact that these teams are packed with multiple threats that are hovering on Spikes.
A Common sight in this archetype is the dual Ground type core of Flygon and Swampert, which sinergystically checks both Hidden Power variants of Electric types. Gengar is a very common partner serving as a spin blocker, a status spreader and a sweeper. However the most common sweeper in this archetype is Aerodactyl, due to its amazing speed and the ability to heavily damage all the Spikes immune threats.
You can talk about Aerodactyl in Spikes stack. Cloyster does not belong in the traditional sense of superman, as we discussed this morning.

Cloyster can fit on mixed offense providing Spikes support for the likes of mixed Salamance, mixed Metagross, mixed Tyranitar and mixed Swampert. All these threats benefit greatly from Spikes by making even harder for the opponent to pivot around their coverage. Additionally, Cloyster improves significantly the match up against Milotic which is the number one bane of mixed offense.

A sub-archetype of mixed offense that often features Cloyster is the so called "Boom spam" offense. The idea is to put toghether as many threats with Explosion as possible, in order to set up a last Pokemon sweep, generally involving Calm Mind Suicune or Curse Snorlax. There are many Explosion users paired with Cloyster that fit this archetype: Metagross, Snorlax, Gengar, Claydol, Weezing and Regice are the most common choices.

Finally Cloyster is sometimes featured on more conventional TSS(Toxic, Sandstorm, Spikes) builds because of its trait of being a spiker that is not trapped by Magneton. These teams always have a special wall like Blissey, Celebi or Jirachi and a bulky physical sponge like Swampert or Metagross. Gengar is still very common as a spin blocker, alongside a physical sweeper like Aerodactyl or a special sweeper like offensive Starmie.

Toxic can also replace Rapid Spin or Ice Beam in the third move slot in order to cripple common switch-ins like Zapdos and Jolteon. However it does nothing against Steel types, Gengar is immune to it and Starmie shrugs it off with its ability Natural Cure.

Checks and counters
=================
**Special Attackers**: Cloyster is offensively checked by a lot of special attackers because its Special Defence stat is terrible. Zapdos and Jolteon all outspeed it and threaten to OHKO it with their powerful STAB Thunderbolts. Magneton can outspeed Cloyster only with a beneficial nature, but it can switch in safely because it resists both Ice Beam and Explosion; however is worth noting that Surf can 2HKO non bulky variants.
Gengar is a very annoying offensive check because it can spin block in addition to threatening Cloyster with its powerful special attacks. Offensive variants of Jirachi can also threaten Cloyster with Thunderbolt, Thunder and Hidden Power Grass while resisting Ice Beam and Explosion.

**Residual Damage**: Unfortunately Cloyster is weak to every type of residual damage: Sandstorm, Spikes and Status. As Cloyster can't afford to run Rest, it can't shrug off Toxic and, combined with Spikes and Sand, means that its lifespan in battle is very short.

**Spinners**: Despite Cloyster's very good matchup against Claydol, the other spinners are quite annoying to deal with.
Forretres resists both Ice beam and Explosion and it is only 5hkoed by Surf, meaning it has plenty of time to use Rapid Spin, but must be really careful of letting Gengar switch in for free.
Starmie is the most effective spinner against Cloyster: the defensive variants take little damage from both of Cloyster STABs and can regain health with Recover as well as threatening a 2HKO in sand with Psychic, while the offensive variants can threaten Cloyster with a viscious Thunderbolt that can OHKO in sand.

Maybe you want to talk about the Rock / Fighters here. Up to you, it's not something to usually think about.

[OVERVIEW]
Cloyster has a solid niche in the ADV OU metagame due to it being a spiker with very unique traits. Notably it has a very good match up against Water types and it is the only spiker in OU that is not trapped by Magneton. Additionally, Cloyster has an excellent match up against one of the most common spinners: Claydol.

Compared to the other spikers in the tier Cloyster is not only a better choice against Magneton and Claydol but it is also a much more threatening attacker. With its good Speed combined with the coverage of its STAB Water and Ice type attacks Cloyster can dent all of its switch-ins for good damage. Most importantly it gains access to Explosion which can be used to create a hole in the enemy team by blowing up a defensive wall, alternatively it can prevent the opponent from setting up with their sweeper, or it can end the turn and let an offensive threat come in without taking damage.

However Cloyster has a few downsides that hold it back from seeing more usage as a spiker in OU: first it struggles to make progress against Rapid Spin Starmie, second it is forced to switch out against hard hitting special attackers and third it has poor longevity meaning that it is often forced to explode early in the game for minimal value. Put something about how it's also vulnerable to sand and being poisoned and gets worn down really easily, which is why you dont tend to see it on teams that want to grind.

Set Description
=============
Cloyster can switch safely into bulky Water types like Swampert, Suicune and Milotic or into physical threats like Snorlax and Flygon and then procede to set up Spikes for its teammates; then it can explode for big damage and simultaneously let a sweeper come in at full health.

Rapid Spin can be very useful in situations when a Skarmory or a Forretress is trying to set up Spikes alongside you, giving you the option to deny theirs and keep up yours.

Additionally blowing up on a wall like Blissey, Snorlax, Celebi or a Bulky Water-type enables a follow-up sweeper to come in safely and wreak havoc.

Cloyster's high speed investment allows it to set up Spikes against the likes of Tyranitar and Metagross as well as outspeeding and blowing up Water-types. 184 Speed evs and a Timid nature is a benchmark to outspeed all variants of Tyranitar and Swampert.
72 HP and 244 Special Defense allow Cloyster to always survive Timid Starmie Thunderbolt outside of sand: this is crucial as Starmie is Cloyster's best counter. The Special Defense investment means Cloyster will survive two Hydro Pumps from max Special Attack Suicune and Swampert while 8 Special Attack is to always 2HKO bulkless Tyranitar with Surf.

Keep in mind that Cloyster is very frail because of the lack of a recovery move, combined with its weak defensive typing, and its weakness to Spikes, Sandstorm and Status. In fact, most of the times Cloyster won't have the opportunity to set up all three layers of Spikes because it is so easily threatened by the large majority of the metagame.

Team options
===========
Cloyster is featured on offensive teams that abuse the presence of Spikes on the opposing field. The play-style tends to be fast and aggressive as Cloyster teams don't like to play the long-game.

Cloyster pairs well with Jolteon on the so called "Spikes stack" archetype. The game-plan is to generate momentum by forcing switches and racking up Spikes damage until the time comes for a sweep. Jolteon is an ideal partner because it is a great Spikes abuser and all its checks are grounded and Spikes weak.

Aerodactyl is a popular late-game cleaner in this archetype, as Cloyster's Spikes support will slowly cripple grounded switch-ins like Swampert and Metagross while the Ground immune threats like Gengar, Zapdos and Moltres are naturally weak to its Rock Slide spam. Due to its amazing speed Aerodactyl can also act as a revenge-killer and a defensive insurance against sweepers like Super Celebi, Super Jirachi and offensive Starmie.

Gengar is another common partner: the offensive three attacks variant is great at abusing Spikes and often packs Explosion to blow up Blissey enabling a Jolteon sweep, alternatively Hypnosis or Will-O-Wisp+Taunt can force a Natural Cure Pokemon to keep switching out taking even more Spikes damage as a result.
However the most important role of Gengar is spin-blocking in order to keep Spikes up. Spin-blocking is especially key on Cloyster teams as the spiker has poor longevity and is prone to blow up early in the game, so that once the Spikes are spinned away they generally won't come back up: the game plan is to set them and then spin-block so they never go away.

Sand is also key in Cloyster offenses as otherwise Leftovers would negate a lot of the damage that Spikes do over the course of the game, so is it not surprising that Tyranitar is a very common partner in these archetypes.

Cloyster pairs well with mixed attackers providing Spikes support for the likes of mixed Salamance, mixed Metagross, mixed Tyranitar and mixed Swampert. All these threats benefit greatly from Spikes by making even harder for the opponent to pivot around their coverage. Additionally, Cloyster improves significantly the match up against Milotic which is the number one bane of mixed attackers.

Gengar is still very common as a spin-blocker, alongside a physical sweeper like Aerodactyl or a special sweeper like offensive Starmie.

Generally speaking this whole section should be restructured/ reworded a little to explain how these various different offensive partners capitalize on what cloyster can offer the team. Make sure you emphasize that cloyster's main deal is being on offense setups. I'd put the teammates into 5 ordered sections, as follows. Think of it as sort of like explaining the different parts and workings of a cloy offense.
Gengar
Fast mons - jolt, aero, etc
Speed boosters - the momentum generated by Cloyster getting a quick layer and booming is exploited very well by speed boosting sweepers like DD tar and Agiligross and even agi mixed zap. They love the chip and dissuading of easy switches that cloy's spikes gives them, and boom on the right target can also give them the crucial setup turn.
Mixed attackers/wallbreakers and boomers (when you talk about TTar in either this or the speed boosters section, make sure you talk about why sand is so appreciated for cloy setups - id probably talk about it here as opposed to in the speed boosters bit tho cuz dd tar comes out later whereas mix tar is in early, often leading).
Finally, the cloy tss bit as a side note at the end. (maybe a sentence about wish lol idk?)

The defensive variants take little damage from both of Cloyster STABs and can regain health with Recover as well as threatening a 2HKO in sand with Psychic, while the offensive variants can threaten Cloyster with a viscious Thunderbolt that can OHKO in sand. One can perform a risky pivot into Electric-Types or Gengar on a Rapid Spin; however blowing up on Starmie with Explosion is occasionally reasonable, but keep in mind that Cloyster's teammates frequently lack the offensive prowess to punch through the opposing walls without the presence of Spikes on the field.

[OVERVIEW]
Cloyster has a solid niche in the ADV OU metagame because it is a spiker Spiker with unique traits. Being a Water-type(AH) means that it naturally matches up well against opposing Water-types(AH) by spiking up freely setting Spikes against the likes of Swampert, Suicune,(AC) and Milotic, additionally, and not being a Steel-type(AH) means that it isn't trapped by Magneton unlike Skarmory and Forretress.(comma -> period) however it However, it misses out on the immunities to Sandstorm sand and Toxic that the Steel typing provides together with and the many useful resistances to common attacking types.

Compared to the other Spikers in the tier, Cloyster is not only a better choice against Magneton but it is also a much more threatening attacker with its good Speed combined with the coverage of its STAB Water-(AH) and Ice-type attacks that can threaten most foes. Cloyster is featured on offensive teams that abuse make use of the presence of Spikes as well as and its fast Explosion enabling offensive setup; the games tend to be quick,(AC) as Cloyster has poor longevity and doesn't transition well in the long game.

Since Cloyster's partners rely on Spikes chip damage to boost their offensive prowess, it is natural to team up with a spinblocker in order to prevent opposing spinners from ruining your day; therefore,(AC) Gengar, the only spinblocker in OU, is an excellent addition to every Cloyster team.
The most common set that Gengar runs on Cloyster teams is Explosion + three attacks;(colon -> semicolon) this set has three coverage moves to hurt most of the metagame with Spikes up, as well as having the option to lure in and blow up a special wall like Blissey clearing to clear the way for special sweepers like Jolteon and Starmie. Alternatively,(AC) Hypnosis or Will-O-Wisp + Taunt can force a Natural Cure Pokemon to keep switching out,(AC) taking even more Spikes damage as a result.

Fast sweepers like Jolteon, offensive Starmie,(AC) and Aerodactyl fit well on Cloyster's Spikes teams by virtue of cleaning because they can clean up in the late-game(AH) once all the their grounded checks have been weakened from Spikes; additionally,(AC) the momentum generated by Cloyster getting a quick layer and then exploding is very well exploited by speed boosting Speed-boosting sweepers like Dragon Dance Tyranitar, Agility Metagross,(AC) and even Agility mixed Zapdos. Jolteon, Zapdos,(AC) and Moltres can wear down opposing special walls with Roar and rack up Spikes damage on the entire enemy team; alternatively,(AC) Jolteon and Zapdos can use Baton Pass to generate momentum by letting a powerful wallbreaker like Metagross or Tyranitar get in safely,(semicolon -> comma) additionally and Jolteon can also act as a pseudo special check with its ability Volt absorb that allows it to recover HP on Electric-type attacks thanks to Volt Absorb. Offensive Starmie cannot phaze or generate momentum with Baton Pass, however but if the opposing special wall has been weakened or removed it is one of the most threatening sweepers in the game with Spikes up due to the combination of its flawless coverage, speed,(AC) and power.

Aerodactyl and Dragon Dance Tyranitar are popular late-game(AH) cleaners in on this archetype;(comma -> semicolon) they love the chip damage on Swampert and Metagross and the dissuading of easy switches that Cloyster's Spikes provide.(comma -> period) additionally Additionally,(AC) Explosion on the right target can give Tyranitar the crucial setup turn. Due to its amazing speed Speed,(AC) Aerodactyl can also act as a revenge killer and a defensive insurance against opposing sweepers like Super Celebi, Super Jirachi,(AC) and offensive Starmie.

Cloyster pairs well with mixed attackers and wallbreakers like mixed Salamance Salamence, mixed Metagross, mixed Tyranitar,(AC) and mixed Swampert; all these threats benefit greatly from Spikes by making it even harder for the opponent to pivot around their coverage. Mixed Tyranitar deserves a special mention,(AC) as it is a great lead that can set sand,(AC) which is crucial to chip opposing walls like Celebi, Suicune, Milotic, Blissey, and Snorlax. Additionally, Explosion users such as Metagross, Snorlax, Gengar, Claydol, Weezing, and Regice fit nicely with Cloyster alongside a last Pokemon sweeper like Calm Mind Suicune.

Cloyster is sometimes featured on more conventional TSS (Toxic, Sandstorm, Spikes) builds because of its trait of being it's a Spiker that is not trapped by Magneton; to make up for its frailty and lack of a recovery move it is often paired with a Wish user such as Blissey or Jirachi, however but remember that the poison status still ruins it. Pursuit Tyranitar is sometimes used to trap Gengar,(AC) allowing Cloyster to be a more reliable spinner.

Keep in mind that Cloyster is very frail has poor longevity because of the lack of a recovery move (RC) combined with its weak defensive typing (RC) and its weakness to Spikes, sand,(AC) and Status status. In fact, most of the times time Cloyster won't have the opportunity to setup all three layers of Spikes because it is so easily threatened by a large majority of the metagame; as such, Cloyster commonly sets up one layer of Spikes and explodes immediately after. However, Cloyster can be punished if it's too eager to blow up early in the game early-game when it is facing a team with a spinner; if Cloyster has exploded too early and the spinner manages to get a Rapid Spin off, Cloyster's partners will very much struggle to sweep without the necessary chip damage provided by Spikes.

Team options Options
===========

Other options Options
===========
Cloyster doesn't have a lot of other options,(AC) as its movepool(spacing) is limited,(AC) and its niche in the metagame is very defined. Sometimes it can run a surprising Hidden Power in the third moveslot(spacing) to catch certain threats off guard;(colon -> semicolon) for example,(AC) Hidden Power Fire can 2HKO Forretress, Hidden Power Grass can 2HKO Swampert, and Hidden Power Electric can 2HKO Gyarados. Toxic can also replace Rapid Spin or Ice Beam in the third move slot in order to cripple common switch-ins like Zapdos and Jolteon; however,(AC) it does nothing against Steel-types, Gengar is immune to it,(AC) and Starmie shrugs it off with its ability Natural Cure.

Checks and counters Counters
=================

**Special Attackers**: Cloyster's weakness to Thunderbolt combined with its awful Special Defense stat means that it is threatened by most Special special attackers in the tier. Zapdos and Jolteon outspeed it and threaten to OHKO it, and although Magneton can only outspeed Cloyster only with a beneficial nature,(AC) but it can switch in safely because it resists both Ice Beam and Explosion; however,(AC) it is worth noting that Surf can 2HKO non-bulky(AH) variants. Gengar is a very annoying offensive check because it can spinblock in addition to threatening Cloyster with its powerful special attacks. Offensive variants of Jirachi can also threaten Cloyster with Thunderbolt, Thunder,(AC) and Hidden Power Grass while resisting Ice Beam and Explosion.

**Residual Damage**: Unfortunately,(AC) Cloyster is weak to every type of residual damage: sand, Spikes,(AC) and Status status. As Cloyster can't afford to run Rest, it can't shrug off Toxic,(AC) and, combined with Spikes and sand, this means that its lifespan in battle is very short longevity is very poor.

**Spinners**: Despite Cloyster's very good matchup(spacing) against Claydol, the other spinners are quite annoying to deal with. Forretress resists both Ice beam Beam and Explosion and it is only 5hkoed 5HKOed by Surf, meaning it has plenty of time to use Rapid Spin (RC) but must be really careful of letting Gengar switch in for free. Starmie is the most difficult Spinner spinner for Cloyster to deal with;(comma -> semicolon) potentially preventing Spikes from coming up. The the defensive variants take little damage from both of Cloyster's STAB attacks and can regain health with Recover,(AC) as well as threatening a 2HKO in sand with Psychic, while the offensive variants can threaten Cloyster with a viscious vicious Thunderbolt that can OHKO in sand. One can perform a risky pivot into Electric-Types an Electric-type or Gengar on a Rapid Spin; however,(AC) blowing up on Starmie with Explosion is occasionally reasonable, but keep in mind that Cloyster's teammates frequently lack the offensive prowess to punch through the opposing walls without the presence of Spikes on the field.

lots of formatting edits were needed; not sure if/why you're not directly copy and pasting the skeleton into your analyses, but that would be helpful to prevent issues like these in the future. gp 1/2 when done
implemented gp 1/2.
I'm not sure why i didn't copy paste the skeleton, you're right.
