[SET COMMENTS]
* Coil Zygarde is a nigh irreplaceable staple on balance and bulky offense teams due to blanket checking the vast majority of the metagame's physical attackers while providing disruption and a bulky wincon against a variety of structures. Zygarde’s unparalleled bulk enables it to counter some of the scariest wallbreakers in Choice Band Marshadow and Swords Dance Primal Groudon. Furthermore, Zygarde’s immaculate synergy with Terastallization allows it to extend its defensive reach to wall Pokémon such as Zacian-C and Dragon Dance Necrozma-DM. Due to its immense defensive role compression and consistency, Zygarde can support a dazzling variety of Pokémon. Consequently, every balance and bulky offense team should consider Zygarde at some point in the teambuilding process, while every team needs to be able to contain it.
* Thousand Arrows's ability to damage Flying-types enables Zygarde to forgo the need for additional attacking moves and delve into its utility movepool to best support its team. Furthermore, the dearth of Grass- and Bug-types in National Dex Ubers means that Thousand Arrows hits nearly every relevant Pokemon for neutral damage.
* Glare is immensely spammable and provides team support in addition to facilitating Zygarde itself to sweep late-game once its checks have been appropriately chipped. If Zygarde is using Glare, slower teammates such as Primal Groudon and Ho-Oh should consider some minor Speed investment to outspeed paralyzed foes such as Eternatus and Zacian-C. Dragon Tail provides Zygarde the means to phaze Pokemon that may set up on it such as the Arceus formes due to bypassing Taunt or prevent a trap from non-Tera Fairy Gothitelle. Toxic is an additional option that annoys opposing Coil Zygarde and Ho-Oh while helping slightly against stall. However, forgoing the utility of Dragon Tail or Glare enables Pokemon such as Swords Dance Primal Groudon, Dragon Dance Necrozma-DM, and Zacian-C to easily set up on and muscle past Zygarde.
* Zygarde's immense bulk, especially after transformation, enables it to utilize Rest and stay healthy throughout the course of a game, enabling it to be a serviceable status absorber. This is further facilitated by free turns granted by Glare. However, Zygarde is quite vulnerable while asleep and can provide opportunities for Pokemon such as Taunt Calm Mind Arceus formes and Primal Kyogre to enter safely.
* The full physical bulk investment in the first EV spread is required to enable Zygarde to serve as a blanket physical wall, as it otherwise crumples against physical attackers such as Swords Dance Primal Groudon and boosted Zacian-C. The second EV spread enables Zygarde to more effectively take on special attackers aiming to exploit its lower Special Defense such as Eruption Primal Groudon and defensive Primal Kyogre while outspeeding paralyzed Zacian-C after transformation and being able to survive Tera Dragon Eternatus's +1 Dynamax Cannon after Terastallization . Although Zygarde is still an excellent physical wall and Marshadow counter, it is significantly more vulnerable to the most powerful physical attacks such as Zacian-C's +3 Behemoth Blade and Double Dance Primal Groudon's +2 Precipice Blades.
* Zygarde is perhaps the Pokemon that is most synergistic with Terastallization due to its ability to flip Zygarde's exploitable Ice-, Dragon-, and Fairy-type weaknesses. It often uses Terastallization to soak an attack and paralyze or phaze boosted Pokemon that would otherwise threaten it such as Dragon Dance Necrozma-DM and Play Rough Zacian-C. Tera Fairy and Water each have their merits, as they enable Zygarde to handle specific threats and should not be used interchangably.
* Tera Water is Zygarde's most generally useful option. Despite the Electric-type weakness Zygarde is able to stomach Zacian-C's +3 Wild Charge, while Zygarde's obscene bulk enables it to continue being an immovable physical wall despite a lack of notable resistances. However, maintaining a resistance to Primal Groudon's Overheat and resisting Necrozma-DM's +1 Searing Sunraze Smash, which would otherwise OHKO Zygarde, is appreciated.
* Tera Fairy is also an option that should be considered. Despite Tera Fairy introducing weaknesses to Zacian-C's Behemoth Blade, Dragon Dance Necrozma-DM's Sunsteel Strike, and Eternatus's Sludge Bomb, it is still extremely good. Dragon Dance Zygarde is immensely threatening to the bulky offense and balance structures Coil Zygarde anchors and is able to use Tera Water Zygarde as setup fodder. Tera Fairy Zygarde is one of the few options for defensive counterplay available to these structures while also being able to turn the tables and use Dragon Dance Zygarde to facilitate its own setup. Tera Fairy also helps Zygarde defensively against Calm Mind Arceus-Dark and physical Giratina-O, preventing the latter from phazing Zygarde with Dragon Tail.
* Coil Zygarde is an integral part of the defensive backbone of most bulky offense and balance teams and finds switch-in opportunities on Pokemon such as Primal Groudon and Marshadow. However, Zygarde's special bulk is middling, and it should be used cautiously against special attackers such as Primal Kyogre, Lunala, and Eternatus even if it is able to survive a hit, as relying on Rest leaves it quite vulnerable. Additionally, due to Zygarde's low Speed and reliance on status moves, it struggles with Taunt users such as Yveltal and the Arceus formes. Calm Mind Arceus formes especially often use Zygarde as setup fodder. As Zygarde lacks offensive investment, its Thousand Arrows is quite weak and struggles to threaten most Pokemon for meaningful damage until it has accumulated multiple Coil boosts.
* Against hyper offense teams Zygarde should focus on attempting to check or trade with a single Pokemon such as Extreme Killer Arceus, Primal Groudon, or Zacian-C, as it will rarely be given enough turns to become offensively threatening. Additionally, Zygarde is entirely deadweight against stall teams, as it is completely walled by Dondozo, but it can still provide value as a status sponge, pivot, and cleaner once Dondozo has been removed. Although Zygarde cannot make meaningful progress against stall teams, it is not threatened by stall in return with the exception of Eternatus's Dynamax Cannon which 2HKOes it.
* While Zygarde may be a blanket physical wall, it is not impenetrable. Notably, Ultra Necrozma's +1 Light That Burns the Sky is capable of OHKOingZygarde. Consequently, Zygarde requires teammates that are capable of offensively or defensively checking Ultra Necrozma such as Calm Mind Arceus-Dark, Marshadow, and Yveltal. Defensive Arceus-Dark should not be used with Coil Zygarde, as they are offensively overwhelmed by Pokemon such as Taunt Calm Mind Arceus formes, Life Orb Yveltal, and Primal Kyogre, which easily exploit the passive structures that result from this pairing. Calm Mind Arceus-Dark is sufficient Ultra Necrozma counterplay while also using Pokemon that beat Zygarde such as special utility Giratina-O, Life Orb Yveltal, and wallbreaker Eternatus to set up itself.
* Defensive or Swords Dance utility Primal Groudon provides a Primal Kyogre switch-in and entry hazards. Primal Groudon is also able to beat Dondozo via Overheat and eases the burden on Zygarde by excellently checking Zacian-C, which can muscle through a chipped Zygarde. Both Giratina-O and Ho-Oh provide hazard control as well as status support and phazing. which synergize to create a strong defensive backbone capable of supporting most offensive Pokemon.
* As Zygarde is deadweight against stall, stallbreakers such as Choice Specs Lunala, Choice Band Rayquaza, and defensive Primal Kyogre are great allies that also decimate bulkier balance teams, which easily contain Zygarde. However, Zygarde does not require a dedicated stallbreaker, as Pokemon such as Taunt Calm Mind Arceus formes and wallbreaker Eternatus more than suffice if they're positioned properly. Zacian-C is also a good option due to its ability to blanket check Taunt Arceus formes, which hinder Zygarde, while being a fast Pokemon and a thorn in the side of hyper offense teams, which can overwhelm Zygarde. As Zacian-C is similarly futile against stall, more dedicated stallbreakers are recommended alongside this duo.
