Well, I vote....

Nino "Carapace" Lahiffe (SV)

"This was a great start to what I imagine will be a fun and fantastic metagame! While we prepare to open the door for the next slate, feel free to discuss how you feel our lucky winners will be able to handle themselves in the Pokémon Showdown arena. And to the three of you, I wholeheartedly encourage you to send us the movesets you'd be most likely to bring to the table along with what strategies you've got in mind based on the moves you picked for each of 'em!

"In the meantime, the next slate'll open up sometime on Friday, July 24, so stay tuned for that! Great job to everyone who participated in this first round of submissions, and I look forward to seeing many more from you all in the slates ahead!"

Yo, I actually managed to get in? That's totally awesome, now I get to dish out a real shell of a time alongside that tick guy and the huge dragon who's likely gonna try and take over the metagame...But I think I know EXACTLY who to submit for the next slate to deal with him! But right now...you wanted some good sets, eh? Here ya go, just click the PokéPaste link below! ...Don't mind the Smeargle imitating me, though.

Slate 2: Hyper-Offense
tumblr_inline_npvzaq3seP1rr1xad_250.png

"A day late (Falchion was busy, so he sends his apologies!), but with our movepools for our first winners decided, it's time for our next slate! To counter the walls, we'll need some wallbreakers - the offensive powerhouses, be it sweepers, cleaners, or offensive tanks that can break through the defensive cores and reshape the meta into less of a slog! In general, this slate would be all about ATTACK! Whomever signs up can try using setup, coverage, STAB, or just a plain old attack stat higher than Skyworld, but your job is hit hard, bust open the enemy's protections, and clear the way for your own forces to secure victory!

"Now, there's four different roles you can choose from for this slate: Leads, Wallbreakers, Sweepers, and Cleaners. Here's a rundown on what these terms mean:
  1. Leads are here to set up gain momentum, be it through hazard setting or drawing first blood, and while not necessarily offensive, they'd wanna at least be fast as heck, though a high Attack stat would be welcome as well. Either way, the main goal of a lead is to pressure your foes before they can put their own strategies into action, giving their buddies on the back line a little more breathing room.
  2. Wallbreakers are the heavy-hitting infantry, crippling your opposition to keep them from deploying a good switch-in. Most offense-reliant teams will ideally want two members in this role - too few and they'll struggle to make any progress, too many and they won't have room for the other equally important roles listed here.
  3. Sweepers are all about setup, relying on boosting moves or team support to really get going. These generally don't see much action until around the mid- to late-game, and calling them in too early will only put 'em in danger from tricks and tactics specifically meant to keep them from causing trouble. Once they're at their best, though, there's no stopping them!
  4. And lastly, Cleaners (or alternatively, Revenge Killers) take advantage of already weakened targets, picking them off with devastating STAB or coverage with the aid of high Speed alongside the expected offensive prowess. Taking them down likely won't be difficult - though you'll have had to deal with everyone else on their side first - but if you see one of these coming your way, it's game over for you!
"For those of you interested in applying, you don't have to go into too much detail on whichever among these four roles you feel you're best at - and you can pick more than one if you feel confident enough - but doing so would be very helpful for any team strategies your managers might want to take for a spin once this micrometa goes live. Please include the role(s) you're planning to, ahem, roll with in the Competitive Info section, and use Capitalization and underlining when calling out these roles. For your convenience, that means one or more of the following is required for this slate: Lead, Wallbreaker, Sweeper, or Cleaner. Shouldn't be too much of a problem, hopefully!"
tumblr_inline_npvzbiDsUR1rr1xad_250.png

"Good luck to each and every one of you! Make sure to send your form in with all requirements met and your signature on the dotted line before this round of auditions closes at 2 PM Central Time on Saturday, August 1!"

Well, well, the biggest, proudest shock to me is one of my entries being a first slate winner...but now, it's time to go on the offense...LITERALLY! There's a character for each of the four roles, and each one is tailor made to counter either Carapace, the Tick, or Smaug...except for one, who's really just here to give Carapace the company he needs. LET'S DO THIS!

    • Custom elements: None
    [*]Reasoning:
Slush Puppie is the mascot of his own slushie, which only makes it even more appropriate for his Ice/Normal typing and his ability distribution: An ability that works well in the sun suits when a slushie should be drunken very well! Sticky Web represents the slush itsel, slowing down enemies as they suffer from brain freeze. The rest of his movepool's non-STAB types are related to the colors of the different flavors of Slush Puppie: Fire to represent the red of Cherry Chill, Grass to represent the Watermelon Wave, Water to represent the Blue Raspberry, and Electric to represent Classic Lemonade. ...Asides from Bite, Crunch, and Dig, he gets those because he's a dog!

    Competitive Info:

If the stats weren't clear enough, Slush Puppie has one purpose: To go in as a Suicide Lead and freeze everything before he gets crunched like a tin can by...well, pretty much any Fighting move! All three walls can pulverize him easily, but his high speed and Special Attack ensures he'll either get out a good entry hazard or hit really hard with STAB Blizzard, which never misses under the Snow he sets up from Snow Warning.

Being a Dinosaur, I can also use some Dragon-type moves. I also LOVE food a lot, so I'm quite the glutton!"
    Competitive Info:

"I have been called here because an answer to Carapace is needed...my battle plan is to set up with Dragon Dance, Bulk Up, or Calm Mind, optionally using Download's boost, before sweeping the enemy team with powerful Headlong Rushes, Volt Tackles, and Head Smashes, the latter two synergizing well with my Rock Head ability. Both of my STAB moves happen to be two of the weaknesses of a Water/Steel type, and Smaug also goes down easily from my Ground-type moves! However, I have no reliable way to destroy the Tick, as he can defeat me before I get the chance to set up, and using Thunder Wave to deal with him costs me a valuable move slot. I basically need a setup move on hand at all times due to my less than average attacking stats otherwise!"

I'm slick like a fox, and I can create Mirages/Illusions of anything I'd wish, to make my opponents believe that I had Teleported or even given a false surrender! And...wait...why do I have Outrage, again?" I'M SORRY I LIED TO YOU

    Competitive Info:

"Much like Zoroark, my power of Illusion can make your opponent worry about whether or not they're actually facing a real teammate, especially if they use a Psychic move on me...are there actually any in the metagame yet? They might know I'm coming thanks to Team Preview, but my wide variety of moves can ensure I can keep my cover as long as possible. You can also use me as a sweeper: If I can get a few Moxie boosts through, the enemy team is finished! Though, I do kinda find it ironic that my best matchup is against Carapace himself. My weaknesses are my poor defences and lack of recovery, meaning I can only really be used late into the match when your opponent's out of options to deal with me!"

Do you know how hard it is for a Rock-type physical attacker to get a non-signature move above 80 Base Power that doesn't force them to aim like the blind person I am?! Ugh, heck with it, I'm doing this my way. Here, a Rock-type physical Thunderbolt clone that has a 10% chance to cause the target to flinch! Single-target, doesn't make contact. Happy now, playerbase? Huh?!"

  • Z-Move: Metalbending (Physical, Steel, 200 BP, requires Meteor Mash) - "That boast quoted above was not for nothing - finding out that there's a lotta dirt particles even in refined metal was how I literally invented Metalbending! As such, this Z-move works like both Flying Press in that it deals either Steel- or Ground-type damage, depending on which is more effective."

"Do I really need to explain the typing I picked? I already had to talk Aang into helping me fill out this form since my blindness means I can't even read or write, I don't have time to get into the nitty-gritty here! ...Hm? The other stuff? Fine. Fiiiiiine. If you really wanna know, my abilities, along with my attack-focused stat spread with pretty solid Speed to back it up, were inspired by all the stuff I could pull off in both of the shows I'm in. Long Reach in particular is 'cuz I use my bending to fight rather than actually having to hit people like, y'know, most other physical attackers do. Mind's Eye is based on how I use vibrations in the ground to 'see', which I remember I had to make up a custom ability to represent when I signed up for the last version of this mod (wherein my accuracy couldn't be lowered and my damaging moves ignored any type negation like how Flying is immune to Ground). I had to limit my custom stuff to two this time around, though, and what I came up with seemed pretty broken, so the custom ability had to go. Good thing Mind's Eye works just as well without being as ridiculous, and on top of that it's also the signature ability of Ursaluna, who's got the same Ground-type that I do. I like that just...-a-bear's style! For my Hidden Ability, I couldn't not go with Steelworker, which should hopefully help with my Z-move along with all the other Steel-type moves I can learn. The rest of my moves were lovingly stolen from fellow Rock-type Tyranitar - which, for the record, would absolutely be my ace if I was a Pokémon trainer!"

Competitive Info:
images

"If ya couldn't guess what I'm like just from the fact that my name sounds like 'tough', I'd have to hit you on the head with a boulder to make it clear! I mean, to be fair, I'm not quite a jack-of-all-stats, but I feel like I come rather close for such a dedicated offensive powerhouse - you could put me up for any of the four roles offered for this slate, but I think I'll go with the Wallbreaker one plus a smidge of Sweeper, if it makes Angel-Face happy. With Mind's Eye, you'd have to be really trying to wrong-foot me with any accuracy debuffs or evasion-boosting shenanigans, so you can bet I'll be coming for you with all the Ground- and Rock-type STAB I've got under my belt! Ooooooor, I could go with Steelworker to gimme a third STAB option, but then I'd actually have to deal with my aim being thrown off... Still, I'll be able to hit a whopping ten different types super-effectively and all but four types for neutral damage at worst. Soooo tempting... Anyway, Headlong Rush, Earthquake, Head Smash, Diamond Storm, Meteor Mash (and Metalbending), Iron Head, Earthbending... The list goes on and on! Fighting- and Dark-type coverage (along with Play Rough in case of Fighting-types) only sweeten the deal, with Drain Punch offering a decent recovery option, Brick Break being perfect for wallbreaking in the most literal way possible, and Knock Off screwing with item-based strats and just being so fitting for me in general. I've even got a few support moves like Spikes, Stealth Rock and Taunt, and if I find myself up against somebody quicker, I can always boost my already solid Speed with Rock Polish or Agility, or maybe get someone else to lend me a speed boost. I don't see why I can't use these options for a Stealth-Rock-slash-Spikes-setting Lead role, but while I've learned a lot about how to be good at both teaching and emotional support throughout my journey with the rest of the Gaang and my other friends and allies since then, to me there's just no better feeling than switching into an unprepared opponent and wrecking their faces like nobody's business!

"I'll be the first to admit, though... Even I've got my limits. Y'see, Rock/Ground was pooped on as a type combo for the longest time, and having given it some thought, I suppose it's 'cuz all the canon 'mons with those types are way too slow to take advantage of the offensive potential of both of them, which is why I decided to go for a speedier build so I could do just that. I can still see why that typing got a bad rap back in the day, though, what with its weaknesses to so many common attacking types. I guess the double-weakness to Water does track with how I can't even swim, but... wait, Grass,  too?! Okay, that's just inexcusable! But yeah, unlike Golem and the like, I'm not exactly one to take a hit even without taking my typing into account, at least without my Earthbending to stop incoming hits. My Special Defense especially is basically my dump stat, so if you put me in front of an incoming Surf or Solar Beam, well... You'll only have yourself to blame, let's leave it at that! I also have no other recovery options aside from Rest or the aforementioned Drain Punch, the first of which'll put me to sleep for a bit and the second being a bit too wimpy for my liking. So... *sigh* Much as I hate to say it out loud, I'm really gonna need all the help I can get to keep myself relevant.

"As for the three defensive cores this meta's got so far, my confidence in taking 'em is mixed to pretty good, since all three have at least one type that's weak to one of mine. I mean... 'Smaug the Terrible'? Pfft, with a Physical Defense stat that low, a double-weakness to my Rock-type STAB, and a Stealth Rock weakness to boot, he might as well be Smaug the Pathetic, and those Heavy Duty Boots in his hoard? Those're just asking for a good solid Knock Off! Though, hmmm... With his higher Speed and my own ironic weakness to Ground, I guess I shouldn't underestimate him in case he decides to break out a surprise Earthquake. Still, Black Arrows? Who needs 'em? As for Nino, I suppose he's got more of an edge against me by way of his Water typing alone, but I doubt he'd be down to run Surf with a Special Attack like that, though Aqua Step might be more of an issue... Still, my Ground STAB and Fighting coverage should hopefully be enough to rip right through his shell like paper! The Tick is probably the one who'll give me the most trouble, since his Fighting type negates his weakness to Rock and his Bug type resists Ground, leaving Play Rough as my only way to deal with him, and I've got better stuff to make use of than a Fairy-type move, even if it does make Fighting-type foes less of a problem. Be that as it may, though, something tells me we'd get along enough that he probably wouldn't mind either way. My guess is he'd call it a sparring match, and maybe he could even be a big help against whatever other counters I'd be up against if we ever end up fighting on the same side!

"Hey, Hiccup here! Did you know that in the previous version of this pet mod, Falchion actually once submitted Smaug himself, and got him in at that? Times were different then, of course, but I find it pretty interesting how this new version of Crossover Chaos Expanded has already given us a different playstyle for the King Under the Mountain, though that of course meant Falchion couldn't resubmit the build he had in mind for him. We offered to repurpose that build just for this slate - and give it a couple of tweaks to fit the current competitive scene, while we were at it!"

    • Dragon Rider: "Because I so  stupidly cut off Toothless's tail fin in our first movie, he had to depend on me to fly up until the third one - though with the loss of my own foot, I'd consider us even! To reflect our once-forbidden friendship, I came up with an ability for the both of us that's basically a combination of the abilities of Calyrex's steeds with a side of Beast Boost: upon knocking out a target, either my own flaming sword or Toothless' breath weapon gains a boost in power. In other words, either our Attack or our Special Attack will be boosted by one stage for each knocked-out foe, depending on which of the two is higher. This takes stat multipliers into account, allowing us to lean into whichever sweeping style we decide to go with!"
    • Plasma Blast (Electric, Special, 70 BP, 16 PP) - "Toothless's breath weapon is an Electric-type rather than Fire-type move like most other dragons would have because of its sheer speed and devastating explosive power, more like a lightning bolt than a flamethrower. For this submission, I styled it as a clone of Flower Trick, Meowscarada's signature move, in that it not only always hits, bypassing any need for an accuracy check, but always results in a critical hit. Its power is a bit underwhelming, but a couple of Nasty Plot boosts can turn it into a truly fearsome long-range technique!"
      • Z-Move: Boltstrike Blitz (Special, Electric, 180 BP, requires Plasma Blast) - "Based on our use of a rapid-fire volley of breath blasts against the giant villainous dragons in both the first and second movies, this Z-move, like its base move, bypasses accuracy checks and always crits, and hits with a lot more power as you might expect. That being said, Toothless's breath weapon does have a limited number of shots, so after this version of the move is used, he'll lose his Electric typing in the same fashion as Double Shock! ...that is, until we switch out and then back in."

"It'd be hard to talk about this submission without a ton of comparisons to the build for Smaug that Falchion came up with before, so let's give that a run-down first. To keep it... kinda sorta brief, that entry was a Dragon/Fire-type with Steelworker, Levitate, and Berserk as his Hidden Ability, with stats leaning towards a speedy mixed attacker with rather low defenses, high Attack, and slightly higher Special Attack. That submission also had a lot of Steel- and Flying-type moves to go with Smaug's golden armor and his flying ability, respectively, along with some miscellaneous coverage types and moves for dramatic flair; the plan was to make him a hard-hitting mixed attacker with decent (though not great) mixed defenses, five resistances plus a potential Ground immunity with Levitate, but also vulnerability to Stealth Rock and no hazard clear to take care of it without help. Fairly simple stuff! When I looked through the original document to see what I could make use of for Toothless's benefit, though, two particular coverage moves caught my eye: Thunderbolt and Thunder. According to Falchion, this was a reference to Smaug's boast in the Hobbit book that 'the shock of [his] tail is a thunderbolt', which he ended up taking literally for the heck of it, but it wasn't exactly useful coverage since it wasn't super-effective against any of the types he was weak to, and one of those is immune to Electric on top of that.

"Let's just say the moment I learned about Smaug now being a Flying-type, and after recovering from the sheer irony of the greatest dragon in modern fantasy literature not being a Dragon-type himself, I remembered those two coverage options and it all but literally struck me. Simply put, what could possibly go wrong with dolling up the kit that Falchion had originally meant for Smaug - before Orangesodapop gave him a better one - so that Electric attacks were not only usable, but essential? Two of the defensive cores from the first slate are weak to the Electric type, after all, and even more ironic is that Smaug himself is one of them!

"Although this wouldn't be confirmed outright until The Hidden World movie, Toothless actually has the ability to make his own electricity! I know, I was... shocked to find that out, too. From the standpoint of the makers of our movie series of origin, this was likely meant as a thematic extension of his incredible flight speed, but especially the devastating accuracy of his explosive plasma breath (which I converted into a custom signature move and the Z-move derived from it by extension). All of this led me to make him a Dragon/Electric-type instead of Dragon/Fire because I see him as being more akin to a literal bolt from the blue than a devastating firestorm, though he does carry a bunch of Fire-type coverage options anyway to deal with any Steel-types that might otherwise wall him. On that note, the Steel-type attacks in his competitive movepool are meant to take care of the obvious threat of Fairy-types, but Iron Tail in particular is also a reference to the reason we ended up becoming partners in the first place - when I first tried to capture him, my bolas tore off one of his tailfins, so I had to build a metal prosthetic to help him fly again. This is also what led me to initially replace all the abilities for Falchion's take on Smaug with a single custom ability in Dragon Rider, which I made our Hidden Ability because of how much it can do with the two of us basically fighting as one, though I did have to rework it from its original concept of combining Levitate and Parental Bond (namely, immunity to Ground-types plus attacking twice for each damaging move) with grounding from things like Smack Down or Gravity removing both effects at once... I guess it kinda did too much in hindsight! In keeping with Toothless' flying skills, Levitate is now our normal ability for the sake of simplicity."

"Technically speaking, Toothless and I are considered a single 'Pokémon' in the vein of Mega Kangaskhan, except we don't really have or need a Mega Stone and can thus work with other fun stuff like Choice items, Berries, or type-enhancing things such as the Dragon Fang or Magnet. Thanks to our years of working together and understanding each other, we're practically a single Sweeper (with some bonus potential as a Lead or Cleaner) in two separate bodies, and with either Dragon Dance or Nasty Plot, we can boost either of our attack stats, especially with Dragon Rider, and make use of a variety of different STAB options: Dragon Rush, Dragon Claw, Draco Meteor, Charge Beam, Thunder, Thunder Fang, Supercell Slam, and Wild Charge, just to name a few! And of course his signature Plasma Blast, just to make sure he doesn't miss with his boosted Special Attack. Coverage options include Fire Blast, Iron Tail, Dazzling Gleam, Play Rough, Energy Ball, and Solar Beam, giving us options against each of the four types the two of us are weak to, although Four Moveslot Syndrome is  not fun. I bet Solar Beam at least would be an excellent anti-Ground policy once Sun teams become a thing here in CCER, though with Thunder being useless in those conditions I'd probably have to talk my buddy into running Thunderbolt instead! On the topic of setup, I did mention both of the boosting moves we can use depending on whether I feel we'd be better off going physical or special, but we could also make use of Agility to hopefully outspeed even faster opponents like Smaug after a boost or two, or possibly even slow 'em down with Thunder Wave, but unless we run an offensive boost move as well and sacrifice our coverage attack, Toothless probably wouldn't be able to hit as hard as we'd like, which totally won't come back to bite us in the butt later, nope, not at all. But yeah, I should also mention that our reliance on speed and attack power comes at the cost of both of our defenses, forcing us to rely on our speed alone to avoid getting hit by any hard-hitting attacks that Toothless would be weak to, and if we choose to run Levitate to counter Ground-types that might otherwise stop Toothless' breath weapon cold, we won't be able to get any free boosts from shooting opponents down, meaning we'll have to run setup more often and risk losing out on important coverage. If worse comes to worse, we may have to even run Volt Switch in case we need to get to safety... though the painful cost of losing all our hard-won boosts in the process isn't exactly worth it in my own very humble opinion!

images

"All the same, I think the two of us are more or less spoiled for choice when it comes to who we can handle so far. Our typing resists all the STAB options for both Smaug and Carapace, and Toothless's own Electric STAB allows him to punish either of them with the right boosts in play. It'd be more of a challenge to take down the former since his greater Speed would force us to run either Dragon Dance or Agility, but with his physical Defense being surprisingly lacking despite his treasure armor, I don't see why we can't go for a physical moveset to exploit that, though Wild Charge being our best physical Electric attack that doesn't carry a nasty drawback is a serious problem. I don't see why we couldn't take the risk with Supercell Slam and hope the potential crash damage doesn't do us in, but with out low defenses and middling HP making Roost unviable as a recovery option, I suppose it'd be too much of a gamble to stick around for the long game anyway. The Tick, for his part, would be an only slightly more even fight in my mind, since his STAB just isn't significant to us from the perspective of type advantages, but the opposite is also true. I suppose he could try his luck with Ice Punch or maybe get rid of all our stat boosts with Circle Throw, but that measly Special Defense of his is practically begging for a Fire Blast to the face, or maybe even a Hurricane if we decide to join a Rain team eventually.

"Alright, that should be more or less it! Let's hope this mod gives the two of us the chance to shine, either now or in the future. Isn't that right, bud? Thought so! Now, let's get out there and show 'em what we're made of!"

Mega Evolution: "Upon donning my Mega Stone equivalent, which I'm unofficially dubbing the Gown of Thorns, my primary typing becomes changed to Steel, and my ability is replaced with Inner Focus. My Attack stat actually wouldn't be buffed that much in my Thorn Princess identity, but for what it's worth, I'd also be slightly tougher defensively, at least on the physical side. "W-well... I did at least start the process for this audition, and I really don't want to disappoint little Anya by backing out, s-so... let's just hope this goes well, even with the very clear and obvious risk of spontaneous dragon-related combustion! A-anyway... my first thought when I sat down to work on my application for the previous iteration of this mod was actually to just go straight to my Thorn Princess persona and give it a Dark/Steel typing for reasons that should be fairly self-explanatory, but that would've resulted in a playstyle similar to Kingambit but with ridiculous Speed instead of Defense. I think you can guess how bad an idea that would've been! At Falchion's insistence, I settled for making it my equivalent to a Mega Evolution instead, with my domestic persona as the pretend wife of Loid Forger (hence my current surname) being my standard form. With this in mind, the type combination I'd gone with previously was Dark/Normal, since I do still keep my assassin-like mentality even in the safety of home (though I'm not sure if that really is the source of Anya's discomfort like I was once told), and Normal still works as one of the types for my domestic self. Since that'd leave me without the Steel type's immunity to Poison, though, I picked Poison Heal as one of my abilities to make up for that - I do have a poison resistance, after all, which also means I've got a high tolerance for alcohol, though holding my liquor is a different matter. Still, what with both my drinking habit and my occasional use of toxins in my line of work, I also took the time to add a few Poison-type attacks to my movepool to go with Poison Heal. Moxie and Klutz refer respectively to my talent as a professional killer and, from what I've been told, my having only one brain cell... whatever that means. Perhaps that's why, despite all the physical attack power at my disposal, my special stats are absolutely abysmal - my only focus in battle is on my own survival, which part of my client to stab first, or both if it has to come to it, so any know-how needed for magic tricks and such wouldn't matter, right? R-right?!

"For this slate specifically, I had to make two major changes for balance's sake. The first was the ability for my Thorn Princess 'form', which was originally Super Luck and, at first, was changed to Sharpness. I went with the former because I have never failed a single job to date, but I wasn't sure if boosting my critical hit ratio even further was a smart decision, so I tried changing it to Sharpness because of my weaponry. But after the mod council told me that this was equally broken, I settled on Inner Focus instead to reflect my calm, detached character while on missions, and to prevent my Attack stat from being hobbled by either flinching or Intimidate. I can only hope this adjustment works in my favor! The other, more important change I made for this latest application, as tough a call as it was to make in light of how much it affected my planned competitive role, was my typing (and that of my custom STAB move besides). Like I said before, the last couple of times I tried to audition for Crossover Chaos Expanded had my types be Dark/Normal and Dark/Steel for my homewife and assassin personas, respectively, but I had to change them to Normal/Ghost and Steel/Ghost this time around for one very important reason: The Tick's Fighting-type STAB. Both of the type combos for my original application were doubly weak to Fighting, so I swapped out the Dark typing for Ghost so I could actually face him and live, though I do still have plenty of Dark-type coverage in case I have to deal with other Ghost-types in the future (assuming I even get in!). There is precedent for Ghost as a secondary type for Pokémon that are very much not dead, with both Decidueye and Annihilape being less, well, that, and more like living users of spooky powers with additional themes of dread, mystery, and the termination of their victims' mortal coils - all of which definitely fit with my line of work! I suppose I could've stuck with the Dark typing after all and done my best to ignore the threat of dying to a single Mach Punch, but like some canonical representatives of the Ghost type, I don't really see myself as being evil despite my choice of career, what with my love of Anya, Loid, and the other friends I've made along the way. Besides... Did you honestly think I became the most lethal woman in all of Ostania by taking any chances?"

"Regardless of the changes I had to make to my primary STAB options, my playstyle remains largely the same: swift, precise, and very, very deadly. As a dedicated Cleaner, with some potential as a Wallbreaker on the side, my impressive physical Attack and blinding Speed are backed up by a number of moves with an increased critical hit ratio, with my main STAB option in this regard being Shadow Claw - Poltergeist just didn't seem fitting in my mind. Despite arguably being my best STAB option if I had to stick to canon moves only, though, its base power is rather lacking, so my best bet STAB-wise would of course be my custom move, Assassinate, which can be considered an upgrade of Shadow Claw specifically with my Thorn Princess self's ability in mind. My Normal STAB moves include Double-Edge, which hits reliably and hard despite inducing recoil, Mega Kick for potentially dealing even more damage despite less consistency, and Body Slam to help spread paralysis (though I'd say my use of it'd take the form of striking the pressure points of my target rather than, you know, actually slamming into them!). While my Normal attacks obviously aren't meant for super-effective damage and my Ghost attacks would ironically be blocked by Normal-types, I do also have a broad range of coverage types to choose from, namely Dark, Steel, Poison, Fighting, Flying (Aerial Ace is named after a sword technique in Japanese!), Psychic (in case of The Tick), Grass (as per my Thorn Princess moniker), and even the Bug-type Fury Cutter and X-Scissor to deal with any future Dark-types that might otherwise counter me. My abilities aren't much compared to all of this - Poison Heal is probably the least useful choice, though to be fair I don't even have any recovery options at all either way - but Moxie with its Attack-boosting effect is arguably my best option, though there's also something to be said for using a combination of Klutz and Trick to slap a harmful or restrictive item such as a Flame Orb or Choice Specs on an unsuspecting client before going in for the kill. Despite being slightly more durable than most other cleaners, though, my special stats still leave a lot to be desired, and I'll have to be especially careful around Dark-type special attacks, with Dark Pulse itself being pretty popular as a special coverage option last I checked. Despite being quick on my feet, or maybe because of it, I'd also need to watch out for momentum-stopping status effects like paralysis or freezing, as well as priority attacks in general - with my below-average defenses at best, I don't think I'd do so well against anyone who could get a good hit in before I could get the chance to strike back.

"As noted above, my identity as the Thorn Princess came very close to being set up as what was basically a speedy Kingambit, and I still owe a lot to the Big Blade Pokémon in terms of playstyle in that form, but now I'd say I'm closer to Blade Form Aegislash with my stats and typing. Upon 'Mega-Evolving' as the meta would call it, I'd obviously be less reliant on the defensive strategies either of those Pokémon are known for, but my terrifying Speed buff and the extra damage from my Assassinations in this 'form' more or less speak for themselves. I purposely avoided giving myself Swords Dance for this reason, and with such a high Attack stat as it is, along with Inner Focus keeping it from being hampered by Intimidate, I arguably wouldn't need it! As oppressive as I could potentially be, though, my nonexistent defensive bulk is not improved even with my Thorn Princess outfit, which ended up getting torn in my very first appearance in my home series - though getting it fixed was how I met Loid for the first time, so perhaps it was a lot luckier that that happened than I thought! Still, my vulnerability to special attacks is only made even worse by my added weaknesses to Ground and especially Fire... See what I meant when I worried about spontaneous dragon-related combustion?!

d30fb283ee0db8c4cdf91b4d6934c179.jpg

"This brings me to my likely odds against the winners of CCER's first slate, which... honestly don't seem that great, now that I think about it! I hinted a lot at Smaug being the target I'd be most afraid of, and between his Fire-type STAB and the typing of my 'Mega', it's unfortunately not too hard to see why - my only hope would arguably be a lucky shot with a Sharpness-boosted Stone Edge, but its imperfect accuracy would make it too risky to bet on against the dragon's Flare Blitz, Fire Blast (if he gets it upon being coded), and possibly Earthquake (and possibly Earth Power) just to be even crueler! The other option would probably be to simply debuff him with Parting Shot and see if I can call in someone else to take care of him, because after all, I am meant for contract killing - ahem, late-game cleaning rather than the early-game frontline action most walling builds would be more comfortable with. Nino... well, I honestly worry for him, what with being thrust into such a dangerous metagame at such a young age, but if I had to confront him in battle, I bet my Fighting coverage would put a serious dent in his Steel-type shell, but with Earthquake or High Horsepower he might still have at least some advantage against my own Steel typing, and had he included Earth Power in his moveset, I might even be forced to surrender to him altogether. Whatever happens, I wish him all the best! And as for The Tick, I had to change my typing specifically so his Fighting STAB wouldn't be a problem, and my Ghost typing in both outfits being immune to that made this a smart decision, but that left me without any options to deal with him from an offensive standpoint, so I made sure to add Aerial Ace and Psycho Cut, both of which I could pull off with my weaponry of choice, just so I had some ways to deal with him properly. That double-weakness to Flying was right there for me to take advantage of, after all! I also have a double-resistance to his U-Turn and Leech Life as the Thorn Princess, so ironically enough, he's now the one I'd have the best chance to dispatch if I ever do finally get accepted into CCE. So... all in all, as frightening as my stat spread and type combination might be on paper, it seems I've got my work cut out for me when it comes to exploiting their potential strengths, especially given just who I'd be hypothetically facing. Fair warning, though: If you're going to take on the Garden's master assassin...

    • Caustic Hiss (Poison, Status, 32 PP max, 100% accuracy) - Parting Shot clone. The term "caustic" can refer to both corrosion and harsh language, and the Alien's tendency to screech at its opponents before escaping along with its weaponized acidic blood can be combined into a defensive and evasive maneuver. Before switching out, it sprays its blood from its mouth to lower the Defense and Special Defense of a single target by one stage each.
    • Parasitize (Bug, Physical, 120 BP, 16 PP, 100% accuracy) - Physical Future Sight clone. On the turn when this move is used, the Alien corrals its victim within range of a nearby Ovomorph planted by the queen stage of its life cycle, causing a Facehugger to latch onto them and implant its embryo inside. Two turns later (and regardless of whether the Alien is on the field or not by that point), the Chestburster will rip its way out of its host, dealing tremendous and potentially fatal damage. This move can be endured with the move Endure, the ability Sturdy, or the Focus Sash or Focus Band.
Reasoning:
Known to even casual science fiction enthusiasts, albeit somewhat erroneously, as the Xenomorph (despite that being part of its in-universe designation rather than an actual species name), the Alien with a capital 'A' is one of the most notorious and recognizable movie monsters and for good reason. The horror of its design and concept come from taking every recognizable element and aspect of life on Earth, us humans especially, and corrupting it into something abominable, from its explicitly perverse visual traits to its life cycle being reliant on killing other beings. You could make a case for it being a Dark-type to fit this conceit, but later entries in the franchise along with some supplemental material would show that as terrifying and gruesome as its biology and ecology are, it does not seem to act with malicious intent, regardless of its aggression and lethality - Aliens shows that it has a eusocial lifestyle like a wasp colony if the wasps were seven feet tall, bled acid, and had a parasitoid reproductive strategy using people instead of caterpillars or spiders as hosts for their young. They'd certainly be a near death sentence for the crew of any human spaceship they'd find themselves on, but then you could say the same for a hornet that got into a bunker where everyone was allergic to its sting, and would it be necessarily evil just because of such circumstances? To this end, while it certainly does get a lot of Dark-type coverage, its typing is Poison/Bug rather than Dark/Bug or Dark/Poison because of the theme of corruption of nature in its every design element for the first type, and the aforementioned eusocial lifestyle and the insectoid elements of many of said design elements for the second. Due to its superlative power and fearsome reputation, along with the reptilian flourishes in its design such as its serpentine tail and the snake-like appearance of its Chestburster form, I gave it a number of Dragon-type attacks as well, before topping off its movepool with some miscellaneous coverage moves to reflect its violent temperament and its ability to work its way in or out of any sort of containment, either to escape captivity or to reach its prey when they least expect it.

The stat spread for this sub is reflective of the Alien's bestial nature and a hunting style reliant on ambush and maneuverability, with excellent physical stats and Speed, decent special attack to reflect its acidic blood being usable as a projectile, and special defense like tissue paper - one of the most effective ways to kill it, after all, is with fire. Its abilities are reflective of all of the above elements of discussion, with Corrosion being a nod to the aforementioned acid blood, Merciless befitting the countless horrific ways it kills and mutilates victims of all shapes and sizes throughout its filmography, and Unnerve being due to its inherent horror from an audience perspective. Notably, Unnerve in particular prevents the consumption of Berries, which is useful for preventing the use of Berries that could boost the stats of its opponent or help it remove or withstand the statuses and debuffs it relies on to wreak havoc, but thematically it reflects the notion that the Alien is, by its very nature, a blight on the foreign ecosystems it is unknowingly introduced to - the planets its kind have made themselves at home upon are always devoid of most native life, as if ravaged by a deadly pandemic from the depths of space. Maybe the Xenomorphs' wild ancestors had their place in their native ecosystem, but it's hard to deny that being bioengineered and unleashed upon countless worlds with no way to deal with them has since turned them all into a plague of truly cosmic proportions.

Competitive Info:
Fast and ferocious, the Alien is the ultimate invasive species, lurking in the shadows and coming out of the walls with lethal intent. Its primary intended role is as a dedicated Lead, inconveniencing its opposition as soon as possible with Toxic Spikes and Sticky Web setup, status-spreading via Corrosion, and the "softening up" of its victims with both heavy burst damage output and the timer it can put on said victims with its signature attack, Parasitize. That said, it can also serve as either a somewhat risky setup Sweeper with Hone Claws or, better yet, a niche pivot and high-speed scout, weaving in and out of the battlefield and sowing chaos with U-turn, Parting Shot, and its own Defense-dropping switching move, Caustic Hiss. When a kill is at hand, its high physical Attack stat pairs well with strong STAB attacks like Gunk Shot, Venoshock, Cross Poison, X-Scissor, Leech Life, and First Impression, the last of which offers excellent synergy with its aforementioned pivoting moves. Worse yet, the damage boost afforded by Merciless can further help it tear through slower opponents already afflicted by its toxicity, though at the risk of having to run coverage to deal with Steel-types instead of being able to poison them. Even with this tradeoff, it still enjoys a deceptively wide variety of coverage options such as Crunch, Throat Chop, Drill Run, Psychic Fangs, Dragon Claw, Brick Break, Play Rough, Trailblaze, and Upper Hand, allowing it to spread heavy neutral damage with ease as well as effectively counter most - but not all - of the types that can either wall its STAB moves (e.g. Steel-types, weak to Fighting and Ground) or directly threaten the beast itself (e.g. Fire-types, weak to Ground). It's also fast enough to make good use of status moves like the aforementioned Toxic Spikes and Sticky Web, along with Toxic itself, Taunt, Roar, and Glare for additional disruption. Essentially, it fills a similar competitive role to Nihilego, except with the Bug type instead of Rock and specialized for physical rather than special attacks. Unlike Nihilego, however, its nonexistent Special Defense renders it vulnerable to hard-hitting special attacks even without its type weaknesses, enabling faster counters like Smaug to destroy it with surprising ease. Its hit-and-run tactics can also be countered with good use of priority attacking moves or momentum-impeding statuses, paralysis and sleep in particular being the banes of its gruesome existence. With precious little in the way of HP, it doesn't appreciate the dual HP loss and physical Attack reduction from burns, either.

Matchups:
  • Smaug: Even the Eighth Passenger should beware the King under the Mountain. Aside from being able to wipe the floor with this thing using both of his STAB types, Smaug also not only outspeeds it but can also no-sell its status moves with Good as Gold. His typing also resists its U-turn (though not its Poison STAB, giving it at least potential for counterpart should it be running Merciless), and his high Special Defense stat means Caustic Hiss won't be as big a problem for him as it would be for softer targets.
  • Nino: Someone save this poor kid. Corrosion means his Steel-type won't be enough to keep him from being poisoned, and his only saving grace there would be that it won't be able to punish him further without the Merciless buff. He does get a resist on U-turn and the rest of its Bug STAB, too, but would otherwise struggle against it with more or less all of his main offensive options, forcing him to run High Horsepower just to deal with it before it can fatally surprise him with either Brick Break or Drill Run. The Defense buff from Dauntless Shield can also be negated and then some by Caustic Hiss if it's running Corrosion.
  • The Tick: The most even matchup of the three. A double-resistance to Fighting and a resistance to Bug means both of his STAB options will be useless against it. Fire Punch is a far more reliable option, though not ideal due to its passable physical defense. His other coverage options will be less effective against it, but since he resists its own Bug STAB and can tank even its strongest Gunk Shot, Play Rough and Psychic Fangs are its only (and similarly suboptimal) ways to deal super-effective damage to him in turn.

charlie morningstar (full demon).png

  • Form Change: Charlie Morningstar-Full Demon
  • Stats: 95 / 100 / 75 / 100 / 75 / 95 -> 95 / 140 (+40) / 85 (+10) / 135 (+35) / 80 (+5) / 105 (+10) (640 BST)
  • Typing: Fire / Dark (replaces the Fairy typing in the secondary slot)
  • Ability: Defiant
  • Requires Charlie's Trident to access this form. (This would function as an out-of-battle form change and would be available on team preview) [The Hazbin Hotel wiki refers to this as a pitchfork, but I think "Trident" is more reasonable given its main role as a combat weapon]
Reasoning:
Charlie's Fire typing comes from her pyrokinetic powers and general association with Hell, and while you think she'd be part Dark for the same reason, she instead gets the Fairy type due to 1) her generally good-natured and compassionate albeit somewhat naive nature, and 2) being descended from her father, Lucifer, the king of Hell, and Lilith, the first woman. However, Charlie's Full Demon form gets the Dark typing due to bringing out her latent demon powers. As it is largely only seen when she gets angry or is in a heavy combat scenario, the Dark typing is significantly more appropriate in this form.

(It even works considering Dark's strengths as one of the better offensive types in competitive!)

Serene Grace references her empathetic and graceful nature, while Competitive is a reference to her ability to stand up for herself when push comes to shove, in spite of that same empathetic and graceful personality. Defiant in her Full Demon form is more of an allusion to the same, only this time referencing her refusal to back down in The Show Must Go On (the first and currently only episode where her Full Demon form is showcased).

The larger than usual amount of Sound moves in her moveset references her love for music and in general, the arts, while moves such as Close Combat and Superpower reference her adeptness at close-range combat. The rest of her moves are either direct allusions or extrapolations from Charlie's powerset and skillset (for instance, her sorcery/energy manipulation abilities gives her access to moves like Psychic and Energy Ball, while Triple Axel, an odd move for a Fire-type, is a reference to her dancing capabilities). She also has a large array of (mostly flavor) status and support moves, alluding to her generally supportive nature.

All of this is rounded out with a nice, balanced stat spread in Charlie's base form. While she's capable of doing some things combat-wise in her base form, I felt this was appropriate considering her more passive role in this form. Her full demon form retains a fairly balanced spread, but instead goes all-in on her physical attack, as in this form she is mostly seen engaging in melee/close-range combat (most notably with Adam).

Competitive Info:
She is intended to be designed for the Wallbreaker category, but can also work as a Sweeper under the right conditions.

Charlie Morningstar's base form is a very balanced, strong, wallbreaker overall. Good speed, decent bulk, reasonably workable offenses, and a great typing in Fire/Fairy to boot. She's definitely offensively-leaning, but not an overall specialist in this form.

However, where she really shines is with her Full Demon Form. At the cost of her item slot, Charlie gains a LOT for both her Physical and Special Attack, with points for her speed and bulk rounding her form out. This makes her a very strong and decently fast wallbreaker that still retains just good enough bulk to let her tank a hit should push come to shove. Fire/Dark is not quite as good defensively as Fire/Fairy, but it still has a bevy of good resistances to utilize and even gives Charlie STAB on her signature move in Demon's Fury, a Dark-type Physical Overheat clone that makes for a hard-hitting breaker.

Matchups:
- Carapace: A Water whose part Steel typing renders it unable to resist Fire is rather exploitable. Mostly checks her otherwise, but doesn't appreciate taking a Close Combat (if running Physical variants) to the face, and the Full Demon form can break through with Dark STAB. Also very prone to being chipped into range of a KO due to lacking reliable recovery, and King's Shield can be taken advantage of by Charlie's Full Demon form with Defiant.
- Smaug: Charlie cannot do much to him in her base form, while he can in turn hit her with his Flying STAB (or Earthquake). Full Demon form has STAB Demon's Fury (130 BP Dark STAB, mind you) to power through Smaug's weaker Physical Defense, but Smaug's higher speed and Charlie's lack of other coverage (or setup, for that matter) means it can Recover off any damage she deals.
- Tick: Tick's typing + poor special defense leaves him open to both of Charlie's STABs, while in turn leaving him unable to do much in the way of damage with his STABs or other coverage moves. Full Demon form cannot quite switch in due to the added Fighting weakness and lack of a Bug resist, but she still forces him out with the threat of Fire STAB.

  • Custom elements:
    • Matrix of Leadership: Cannot be removed via Knock Off, Switcheroo, Trick, or Corrosive Gas. If held by Optimus Prime, your stats cannot be lowered by your opponent and your Steel- and Fighting- type attacks do 1.2x more damage.
    • Energon Axe | Steel | Physical | 95 BP | 100% accuracy | 10 PP (max 16) | Contact, Metronome, Mirror Move, Protect, Slicing | Ignores the opponent's Defense boosts when dealing damage.
Reasoning:
The Steel typing is here due to his Cybertronian origins (the Cybertronians being robots and all), and the part Fighting type is due to his devotion to justice and his noble, leadership-focused personality. Shift Gear, Spin Out, U-turn, Extreme Speed, and High Horsepower are a reference to his newly-acquired ability to transform into his cybertronian truck mode in the movie, while Sacred Sword and his newfound signature Energon Axe are a reference to his titular weapon of the same name. Stealth Rock references Optimus Prime's origins as Orion Pax, a lowly miner, as was typical for most Cybertronians at the time the movie took place.

The Matrix of Leadership is his signature item, bestowed upon him by Primus and the other (deceased) Primes, and is what makes Optimus Prime... well, Optimus Prime (hence why you can't remove it via moves such as Knock Off or Trick). The boost to Steel- and Fighting-type attacks references Optimus Prime's enhanced strength, while the Clear Body-like effect shows increased durability and bravery in the face of hardship. Finally, in terms of abilities, Justified references Optimus Prime's bold conviction to justice, while Vital Spirit and Inner Focus reference the boldness of Orion Pax and his dedication to his dreams.

Competitive Info:
Optimus Prime is intended as a Sweeper, first and foremost, but is versatile enough to work as a Wallbreaker too.

The goal for Optimus Prime is simple - Shift Gear and sweep. With good bulk and pretty workable typing, he has plenty of good opportunities to find that one turn to set up. Once set up, he truly becomes a menace of his own, with Sacred Sword and his signature Energon Axe able to bypass any Defense boosts and making the most out of his decent Attack stat. Even outside of this, he also has plenty of other (albeit somewhat limited) coverage moves to make quick work of any potential checks or counters. All of this is rounded out with Optimus Prime's signature item, the Matrix of Leadership, which in addition to making it a competent Knock absorber in tandem with Justified, also ensures that its stats can't be lowered by opponents, blocking things such as Intimidate and King's Shield and in turn giving a decent boost to Optimus Prime's STABs.

However, that is not quite all that Optimus Prime can do! While it is great as a Shift Gear sweeper, it can also work plenty well as a breaker of its own accord, with Choice Band foregoing the Clear Body-like effect of his Matrix in exchange for a big 50% boost to all of its Physical attacks. Thanks to Stealth Rock and U-turn, it can also make for a potential lead or offensive pivot, setting Stealth Rock and switching out to another teammate.

Matchups:
- Carapace: Sacred Sword lets Optimus Prime bypass Dauntless Shield's defense boost, while the Matrix of Leadership blocks King's Shield's attack-lowering effect. The most Carapace can do is Encore or denting it with Earthquake.
- Smaug: Fire/Flying lets Smaug resist both of Optimus Prime's STABs, and that + its high speed also in turn ensures that Optimus Prime will never be able to set up in front of it for fear of being outsped and scorched by Fire STAB. However, Supercell Slam (if it connects, anyways), can deal heavy damage or outright KO it.
- The Tick: The relatively weak BP of Optimus Prime's STABs (or Superpower, which has the bad effect of lowering Attack and Defense) tends to run a bit flat into The Tick's titanic physical bulk, and its other coverage isn't quite high BP enough to change this. In turn, The Tick can dent it hard with Drain Punch while healing up immensely.

"My name is Poison Ivy. Welcome to the dusk of man. The age of flora has dawned."
  • Pokémon: Poison Ivy
  • Franchise/Origin: Batman (DC Comics)
  • Category: Comic Books
  • Type: Grass / Poison
  • Ability: Overgrow / Cute Charm / Regenerator
  • Stats: 60 / 90 / 65 / 130 / 80 / 105 (530 BST)
  • Competitive moves: Alluring Voice, Confusion, Dazzling Gleam, Energy Ball, Extrasensory, Frenzy Plant, Giga Drain, Grass Knot, Leaf Storm, Leech Seed, Psychic, Psyshock, Sludge Bomb, Sludge Wave, Synthesis, Toxic, Toxic Kiss, Toxic Spikes
  • Flavor moves: Absorb, Acid, Acid Spray, Aerial Ace, Agility, Amnesia, Aromatherapy, Assurance, Attract, Bind, Brick Break, Brutal Swing, Bullet Seed, Charm, Close Combat, Corrosive Gas, Disable, Double-Edge, Drain Punch, Draining Kiss, Endeavor, Endure, Facade, Floral Healing, Flower Shield, Focus Energy, Force Palm, Gastro Acid, Grass Whistle, Grassy Glide, Grassy Terrain, Growth, Gunk Shot, Heal Pulse, Helping Hand, Ingrain, Leaf Blade, Leer, Mach Punch, Magical Leaf, Mega Drain, Mega Kick, Mega Punch, Mud Shot, Mud-Slap, Poison Jab, Poison Powder, Poison Sting, Pollen Puff, Power Whip, Protect, Psybeam, Psycho Cut, Quick Attack, Quick Guard, Rage Powder, Razor Leaf, Recover, Recycle, Refresh, Rest, Reversal, Seed Bomb, Slash, Sleep Talk, Sludge, Solar Beam, Solar Blade, Stun Spore, Substitute, Sucker Punch, Sweet Kiss, Sweet Scent, Take Down, Taunt, Venoshock, Vine Whip, Wide Guard
  • Custom Elements:
    • Toxic Kiss | Poison | Special | 80 BP | 100% accuracy | 10 (max 16) PP | Contact, Metronome, Mirror Move, Protect | 30% chance to Poison the opponent; always lands a critical hit on statused opponents.
Reasoning:
Grass is due to her influence over plant life (and some versions of this character portray her as more plant than human) and her human expertise in botany and genetics. She also gains this due to her environmental tendencies as well. Meanwhile, Poison references her ability to produce numerous pheromones, and some of these are even capable of mind controlling their victims. It also plays into her human expertise in toxicology and her inherent ability to create toxins (especially with a kiss, which her signature move is a reference to).

The higher-than-usual amount of Fighting-type moves (all Physical) in her moveset reflect her generally decent hand-to-hand combat skills.

Overgrow is a reference to her strong plant manipulation abilities, and Cute Charm references her seductive abilities. While a very attractive woman, she never uses her looks for self-gain until she becomes Poison Ivy, and this ability helps reflect that. Regenerator comes from her ability to be able to regenerate her limbs and the plants she controls.

Competitive Info:
She is intended to work as a Cleaner, but can also perform as a Lead.

Her lead role comes in a similar form to DPP Roserade, as a good speed tier lets her get up Toxic Spikes. From there, she can use either Leaf Storm or Chloroblast as a powerful nuke, with the latter even being able to self-KO to deny Rapid Spin or Defog. Taunt is also good for denying Defog or opposing hazards as well.

Meanwhile, 105 speed is a very good speed tier for finishing the job against weakened teams, and 130 Special Attack alongside fairly strong STABs means that she has the ability to hit quite hard. Regenerator is a very strong ability that she can take good advantage of to keep herself healthy throughout the course of a battle in spite of her weak defenses. Toxic Kiss is a strong Poison STAB that also gets even stronger with the help of Toxic Spikes or other statused Pokemon and is generally just perfect for her role as a cleaner.

Matchups:
- Carapace: Being a special attacker first and foremost means that she can very easily exploit his weaker Special Defense and actually turn his part-Water typing against him (as it means he's a Steel that can't resist Grass). However, she doesn't quite appreciate switching into a Knock Off or Earthquake due to her lower Physical defenses.
- Smaug: His typing basically neutralizes her Grass STAB, and being part Flying also means it doesn't fear Toxic Spikes at all (Good as Gold is even handy to block any of Poison Ivy's status moves that might come its way). In exchange, he can basically just OHKO her through her poor defenses with both of his STABs. Her poor coverage pool and her Poison STAB not being quite as strong means that she's not nearly as capable of hitting him back in return.
- Tick: Poison Ivy's poor physical bulk means that even with a Fighting resist in tow, switching into him can be quite a hassle - doubly so, since she's a Poison that doesn't resist Bug. However, he does not really appreciate eating her Poison STAB, especially not with his bad special bulk.

"How can you feel sorry for something that's killed humans? I've never heard of anything so absurd. But if that was how my sister truly felt, then I must carry it on."
Character Name: Shinobu Kocho Franchise/Origin: Kimetsu no Yaiba / Demon Slayer (Category: Anime & Manga)
Type: Bug/Dark Abilities: Swarm, Merciless, Insect Breathing
Stats: 89 / 96 / 72 / 40 / 80 / 133 (Total: 510)

Special: Bug Buzz, Struggle Bug, Clear Smog, Venoshock, Sludge Bomb
Status: Quiver Dance, Flatter, Memento, Taunt, Heal Bell, Swords Dance, Purify, Toxic, Toxic Spikes, Quick Guard, Agility
“I may be the only one among the Hashira who is unable to decapitate demons, but creating a poison that’s lethal to them... that’s quite impressive, don’t you think?”
Signature Ability: Insect Breathing
- Effects: Piercing moves deal 1.2x damage and have a 50% chance to badly poison the target. Additionally, gain the properties of a Poison type (Immune to Poison status, absorb Toxic Spikes, Toxic is fully accurate)
Piercing moves: Fury Attack, Horn Attack, Horn Drill, Hyper Drill, Retaliate, Fell Stinger, Lunge, Megahorn, Twineedle, Poison Jab, Poison Sting, Drill Peck, Drill Run, Smart Strike
Flavor Reasoning: "I am Shinobu Kocho, the Insect Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps. It makes sense to classify myself as a Bug type here, due to my creation of and proficiency in the Insect Breathing style. It seems there are all manner of powerful beings to be found within this world, while I am a mere human with no supernatural abilities, explaining my relatively low BST. Although I try my best to maintain a cheerful persona, when it comes to demons you’ll find I’m quite... merciless. Enough so that I gain the Dark type as well.“

“Compared to my fellow Hashira, I'm unmatched in speed, but I lack the physical strength to behead demons like they can. That's why in combat, I wield a heavily modified katana with a stinger-like tip, designed for stabbing and injecting wisteria poison into targets. This poison is usually only harmful to demons, but it seems here I'll have to make an exception.”

“Nevertheless, that explains my lack of slicing moves. The moves I do have draw from the aforementioned stabbing attacks, use of poison, bug imagery, my speed, and my status as a medical specialist. Lastly, Swarm is flavor for the fact that we slayers always seem to become more powerful when pushed to the brink of death.”

Competitive Reasoning: "After a bit of research, I've determined what roles would suit me best in combat here. As a Lead/Cleaner hybrid, I can strike with incredible speed, and my attacks can be deceptively powerful when executed properly. Insect Breathing, as well as my other abilities situationally, will certainly help with that, with the potential to significantly boost my damage output. In the early stages of a battle, spreading toxic poison will bring my team that much closer to defeating the enemy, even if that means I go down first. Alternatively, near a battle’s end, I can easily outspeed and take out weakened opponents, assuming the ones most threatening to me are taken care of!”

“To a lesser extent, I can play the Sweeper role utilizing Swords Dance and Agility. However, due to my frailty, setting up may prove quite difficult. If anything, my setup potential exists to ensure defensive enemies can't just sit comfortably in front of me for too long. And while my wallbreaking abilities are… meager, I can still make progress against my checks even without setup, through Knock Off, Toxic, and Toxic Spikes.”

“Oh? I’ve just received intel from a large, blue Kasugai crow pertaining to the metagame’s current group of walls. The one called the Tick seems manageable as long as Iong as I carry Acrobatics. If not, a battle with him could end either way. As for the other two… I’m not quite as lucky. Smaug’s dual STAB is very threatening, and he may move before even me if I don’t invest enough into Speed. On the other hand, we have a poor boy who’s been turned into a strange sort of turtle demon. I’d love to put him out of his misery, but there’s not much I can do to break through that shell.”

“With matchups like these two, I would normally rely on my poison, but one is immune to it entirely, and the other is immune to all status moves. I could potentially get the 40% poison chance upon attacking the latter, but that’s hardly a strategy, merely wishful thinking. I’ll need to settle with using Dark STAB when forced to combat those walls. My Knock Off may not be boosted by Insect Breathing, but it’s my best option.”

“I’m sure that down the line, more crossovers will arrive who are much more prime targets for me. And when they do… I won't hold back.”
Screen Shot 2026-08-05 at 12.30.44 AM.png
* Ah, Lady Shinobu... I'm afraid that your Megahorn has been ruled too devastating an attack for the meta to handle. It may be the worst attacking type in the game, it may be 85% accurate, it may come off of an Attack stat worse than Togedemaru, but having it do 40% more damage? No, that's supposedly far too much...

Screen Shot 2026-08-05 at 12.41.54 AM.png

"Oh my, is that true? Very well then... I doubt most people would be running such an inconsistent move, but if it's what the council would want, I'm glad to accommodate. Insect Breathing won't be as sharp as originally planned, going from a 1.4 to 1.2x boost to piercing moves. However, as compensation, I'll be taking a deadlier serum into combat. This will increase piercing moves' toxic poison chance from 40% to 50% of the time. Overall, this change will decrease my potential for the Cleaner and Sweeper roles due to the loss of immediate damage, but I'll be able to truly stand out as a Lead since my poison's more likely to be effective."

"I'M GONNA PUT YOU FREAKS IN YOUR PLACE!"
Signature Move: Digital Torment
- Type: Electric
- Classification: Special
- Power: 75
- Accuracy: 100%
- PP: 10/16
- Effects: Under Psychic Terrain, this move's BP is 105. If the user is below 1/3 HP, this move Paralyzes the target, unless they are Electric type.
- Flavor: The user creates a virtual experience, then forces the target through it. The amount of pain and stress the simulation inflicts is relative to how the user is treated by the target.
Flavor Reasoning: “Welcome, one and all, to my submission! My name is Caine, the ringmaster/creator/all-powerful deity of the Amazing Digital Circus! Emphasis on the ‘digital’ there… my status as an AI is what gets me the Electric type. As for Psychic… that’s the type representing the mind, so I can get that due to how human minds are transported to my circus… Anyways let’s talk about something else! Like how I have near limitless power over every aspect of my digital home. This is represented through my ability, which essentially lets me have almost that same amount of power- as long as I’m in my realm (in this case Psychic Terrain) of course!”

“I’ve got an ensemble of NPCs that explain a few of my moves, such as Bubble, and the Sun and Moon! I… hope I don’t need to point out which moves those guys justify. A lot of my status moves reflect my absolute control over the battlefield, such as weathers, terrains, and Trick Room! Lastly, biting moves are… well just look at me! Of course I have biting moves!”

Competitive Reasoning: “Today’s role is… Adventures in Cleaning: 5 to 8 Turns of Doom and Despair!!! Few would-be tanks resist both Electric and Psychic, and even if they do, I’ve got Water and Fairy coverage that’s also boosted by my ability! The key for me to do my best work? It’s all about timing. I can only activate Psychic Terrain once, but it’s very important to have up if I want to get some meaningful damage on the board. As a bonus, having it up also stops opponents from using priority attacks on me, so I’ll be moving first pretty consistently. Because of my dependence on the terrain I’m sort of like a sweeper, but not in the standard sense, so cleaner works for simplicity’s sake.”

“Besides, it’s not like I’m… completely powerless outside of my ability. Push me around enough, and I can still show the other team who’s really in charge with Digital Torment… Have I mentioned my solid status movepool? If it fits the team, I can branch out and use Screens, Weathers, Taunt, Thunder Wave, Encore, Disable… even manually reset Psychic Terrain if it ends! Pair those moves with my above average speed, and I’m not half bad as a Lead! You know, if this whole offensive playstyle thing doesn’t work out, I may just have to return as a dedicated support role for a later slate.”

“Well, would you look at that! My dual STAB is perfectly set up to effortlessly take care of the 3 walls who’ve made it in already. Psychic covers the Tick, Electric handles Smaug and Carapace. Simple enough matchups, right? Wrong! Switching in on the Tick means risking a U-turn to the teeth, and that won’t be fun at all! Carapace’s Knock Off will be painful as well. And Smaug can… uh… Well, he can use Will-O-Wisp if I’m going physically offensive, for some reason. Gotta watch out for that!”

“In case you didn’t want to read all that text, here’s the short version. I’m a Cleaner who will either feast or famine depending on how well positioned I am. I’ve only got one shot at wrapping up the game, and if I fail, I’ll have to make do without my Psychic Terrain boosts. But I won’t, right?”

“…right?…”

* Now Caine, as for you... Having an Electric-type Rage Fist is, likely a bit overpowered. Fitting for your character, but broken nonetheless, despite you being considerably more frail than Annihilape. Also, looking at that signature ability, it's a bit... um... convoluted. Even I, a true genius, had to read it like 4 times to understand it.

Screen Shot 2026-08-05 at 1.13.33 AM.png

"Wh... do you have a clue HOW MUCH TIME I SPENT ON THOSE SIG-"
Screen Shot 2026-08-05 at 1.15.39 AM.png

"Aaaaaand thank you for the destructive criticism! I've come up with a much more palatable way for The Ringmaster to function. Now it's simply Psychic Surge + Levitate + the part where Terrains can affect me even while I'm airborne. No more once per battle setting, no more affecting all of my attacks. Now it's so simple even YOU can understand it! Yes, you! That said, Psychic Terrain will still boost one non-Psychic move, that being my new and unimproved Digital Torment! Now it's a 75 BP attack that has gets increased to 105 BP under Psychic Terrain! It's also guaranteed to Paralyze non-Electric type targets if I'm below 1/3 of my HP. What can I say, I don't take kindly to disrespect... Anyways let's tweak the stats a bit! Since Psychic Terrain won't boost every move I have anymore, I'll be giving myself +5 Special Attack! Then again, the Terrain isn't a one-time use anymore, and the new paralysis effect of Digital Torment may be pretty strong despite not being Rage Fist. So to lower the chance of me surviving attacks at below a third of my health, I'll decrease my Defense by -5. That's a whole lot of changes, so let's hope they'll be enough!

Pokémon: Homestar Runner
Franchise/Origin: Revolver Ocelot Homestar Runner
Category: Web Original
Type: Normal
Ability: Terrific Athlete / Unaware / Run Away
Stats: 61/90/50/50/45/160 | 456 BST
Competitive moves: Blaze Kick, Crunch, Curse, Extreme Speed, Facade, Frustration, High Jump Kick, Iron Head, Low Kick, Mega Kick, Return, Stomping Tantrum, Taunt, Torment, Toxic, Triple Axel, U-turn
Flavor moves: Amnesia, Attract, Axe Kick, Baton Pass, Bide, Brick Break, Captivate, Confide, Double Kick, Double Team, Double-Edge, Endure, Fling, Giga Impact, Headbutt, Helping Hand, Hidden Power, Jump Kick, Low Sweep, Mimic, Natural Gift, Protect, Rage, Rest, Rolling Kick, Round, Secret Power, Sleep Talk, Snore, Stomp, Substitute, Swagger, Take Down, Tera Blast, Thief, Uproar
Custom elements: Terrific Athlete - Increases the base power of kicking moves to 120% (as in a lesser version of Striker from A Golden Experience). Negates the effects of entry hazards (as does Infiltrator-Gen 7 from Metamons).
[Kicking moves: Mega Kick, Low Kick, Blaze Kick, Triple Kick, Double Kick, Rolling Kick, High Jump Kick, Jump Kick, Axe Kick, Thunderous Kick, Trop Kick, Low Sweep, Triple Axel]
Mega Evolution: Normal/Steel with Supreme Overlord; +20 / +60 / 0 / +30 / -10 (Atk/Def/SpA/SpD/Spe)
Homestar_Runner_Horned_Helmet_Ever_and_More.png

Reasoning: (Just imagine the rhotacism. I'm not going to type out all of it.)
"Oh, hello! I'm Homestar Runner from something dot com! Pretty Normal compared to that kooky dragon, turtlem'n, and...bug thing. Some folk say I'm a terrific athlete! Unaware...uh, why do I have that?"
Strong Bad from afar: "Because you're stupid!"
(Homestar continues)
"Oh, right, right. Away is definitely a way I can run, so Run Away is obligatory. Aside from Gen 1 universal moves, I can take my speed to the extreme, I know a thing or two about kicking, I tend to forget things easily, I can take my speed to the extreme, and I have athlete-like moves in U-turn and Baton Pass. Another point in favor of Stomping Tantrum is when I took Strong Sad's pills and went on a rant about long pants. Incidentally, I have a history of breaking into Strong Bad's house, hence Brick Break. I also have a Victory Dance for occasions like Pom Pom winning a golbol. I may not look like I have hands, but I can Fling stuff around and am not above being a Thief of stuff like half-eaten choco-pants. By the way, I have teeth. See?"
Homestarteeth.png

"Uproar is from my tendency to sing, sometimes with Pom Pom on the keys. I may also Taunt people, like Strong Bad when I gave him relish foot during that one pet show. Torment...I'm guessing Strong Bad put that there. Iron Head is related to my Mega Evolution, where I take up my mantle as the supreme overlord of the Broternal Order of Different Helmets. You could call it Homestarite for the sake of this metagame."

Competitive Info:
"Marzipan told me to get Cleaner, and this application is my way of doing so. With all the contact moves I have, Carapace will seriously wall me, even if I run Stomping Tantrum. Smaug takes a load from my physical attacks, but I can't handle Will-O-Wisp unless I run Facade or even hold a Lum Berry. The Tick will also be tough to break through, no matter how hard I Blaze Kick him. My best bet, probably Toxic. Mega Evolution makes me ever and more, ever and more, ever and more of a tank, but it gives me weaknesses to common types, especially Fighting."

96px-Homestarhat.png

"Veto for me, huh? Uh...not sure where the 160 Atk came from. I guess I can do without Victory Dance, first of all. For the Mega, 10 points go from Defense to Attack. I hope the base stat changes are more readable now."

Ziltoidtheomniscientcover.jpg

"It is I, the 4th-dimensional Ziltoid the Omniscient!"
Pokémon: Ziltoid
Franchise/Origin: Ziltoid the Omniscient (Devin Townsend album)
Category: Music
Type: Psychic/Electric
Ability: Forewarn / Analytic / Moxie
Stats: 99/119/69/109/99/99 | 594 BST
Competitive moves: Boomburst, Calm Mind, Flash Cannon, Future Sight, Heal Order, Hidden Power, Hot Cup of Coffee, Overdrive, Psychic, Psychic Noise, Psyshock, Signal Beam, Snarl, Sucker Punch, Taunt, Toxic, Trick, U-turn, Wild Charge, Zen Headbutt
Flavor moves: Hot Cup of Coffee I couldn't resist. Real list below.
Attack Order, Attract, Captivate, Confide, Confusion, Defend Order, Detect, Double Team, Endure, Expanding Force, Facade, Frustration, Giga Impact, Helping Hand, Hyper Beam, Metal Sound, Natural Gift, Protect, Psybeam, Rest, Return, Round, Screech, Secret Power, Sleep Talk, Snore, Substitute, Swagger, Take Down, Tera Blast, Thief, Uproar
Custom elements: Hot Cup of Coffee - Water, Status, 5 PP | Priority -3. User regains 50% HP. If the user is damaged by a contact move before this move is executed, then the attacker is burned. (Basically a hybrid between Recover and Beak Blast)

Reasoning:
"Ah, this takes me back. Last time I was in a thread like this, I ended up in a three-way tie between that red-haired kid and some blonde-haired lunatic. That fire dragon from last slate looks familiar too. Anyway, about two decades ago, this one guitar nerd named Devin Townsend published a rock opera named after me. Hailing from the planet Ziltoidia 9, I invaded the known universe in search of the ultimate cup of coffee. You could say that I'm an alien, much like Beheeyem, which is the source of my Psychic typing and a good chunk of my movepool. The omniscient part of my moniker, certainly no joke, is represented in Forewarn and Detect. Being hailed as the ultimate 4th dimensional guitar hero, as on the track 'Solar Winds', is the reason for Electric typing, Overdrive and other sound-based moves. The same narration called me a nerd, and Analytic is my way of owning it. It also mentioned my confidence, which Moxie represents. You might think it's weird for a so-called nerd to have higher Attack than Special Attack, but isn't it more fun that way? Incidentally, Wild Charge is in common with Toxtricity, the original Overdrive user. Moving on, I have no shortage of military might, hence the Order moves. As narrated in 'Hyperdrive', I arrived at Nebulo Nine unbeknownst to the humans like, 'Haha! Surprise!' You could call it a surprise attack, or perhaps...a Sucker Punch? Pff, localization. Calm Mind comes from the 'Planet Smasher' lyrics, 'Cherish the mind / Cover your mind / Cherish your mental sanctum.' Rock Band Network for Rock Band 2 had a special version of Ziltoid the Omniscient where I would Taunt the players into convincing me that the game is not a waste of time. Lastly, the source of Thief and U-turn is the 2014 sequel album , specifically the track 'Ziltoidian Empire', where I was in and out like the wind! ...while abducting a Poozer."

Competitive Info:
"With Calm Mind being as obligatory as it is, I function best as a special Sweeper. If you give me a Choice item, I could act as a Wallbreaker or a Cleaner, which may or may not include leveraging Moxie. Psychic + Electric is not great offensive coverage in a vacuum, but it is problematic for all three of the current walls. It is nice to have Bug coverage on both sides, in case I have to deal with any Dark-types, although I don't have much else other than Sucker Punch and Hidden Power."

Custom elements: Mjolnir - Dragon, Physical, 120 BP, 90% Acc, 10 PP | Turn 1: Atk +1. Turn 2: deals damage. (Meteor Beam variant)

Reasoning:
ariella-lu-png.257852

"Ariella Lu here. For personal reasons, Ren needs me to explain on her behalf. We are classified as Type Dragon, or D for short, because we can control dark matter. Like Kili said, we have capacity limits and need to imagine what we create. Ren has an exceptional capacity, but she can't do biogenic transmutation like Kili can, nor does she have any kind of power that would make her any type other than Dragon. Still, she lends power in spades to her classmates, which is represented in Power Spot and Dragon Cheer. Her fictional armament is Mjolnir, a hammer that she can resize at will, even to colossal proportions. This is represented in not only her signature move, but also Gigaton Hammer and Ice Hammer like Tinkaton has. Because Ice Hammer was fair game despite having started out as a Hammer Arm clone exclusive to Crabominable, it's not unusual for Ren to have Dragon Hammer and Wood Hammer, right? Especially with Long Reach to make them non-contact."

Competitive Info:
"Having a decent Speed and access to every hazard but Sticky Web allows Ren to function well as a Lead. Alternatively, she can act as a Sweeper by leveraging one or more of Mjolnir, Scale Shot, and Meteor Beam. She could also equip a Choice item for stronger potential as a Wallbreaker or Cleaner, although this option does not pair well with Gigaton Hammer. Regardless, her shaky Defense and lack of priority are sure to give her a hard time against The Tick's Mach Punch and physical Smaug in general. Not to mention, even with Mjolnir and Earthquake, Carapace will prove difficult to break through on the physical side. She may not be built for the meta, as you can see, but she has serious potential in general."
Ren left a note on her terminal: "My base stats are just a rearrangement of Torterra's. I'm open to alternatives, as long as my BST doesn't exceed 540, which Kili ended up with."

MOD ANNOUNCEMENT
tumblr_inline_npvzb5Hq8u1rr1xad_250.png

"Can't believe it's almost the end of this slate already, but here we are! You've got almost exactly 24 hours to wrap up your auditions, so get 'em in before this slate closes up shop! We already have a ton of awesome entries, but not everybody's done filling out the paperwork last I checked, so see if you can get to that ASAP! In addition, I've got something pretty special in mind for the voting phase, but since it specifically relates to the Roles for this slate, we'll need a better balance for them - there's only two subs so far who were billed as Cleaners, compared to at least four for each of the other three Roles! So if y'all could volunteer at least two more contestants for the Cleaner role, that'd be great. Anyway, yeah! Looking forward to how this slate turns out!"

Character Name: Sukuna
Franchise: Jujutsu Kaisen
Category: Anime and Manga
Type: Dark / Fire
Gender: Male
Abilities: Sharpness, Immunity, HA: Cursed Body
Stats: 85 / 100 / 75 / 115 / 75 / 100 (550 BST)
Full Moveset: Dark Pulse, Calm Mind, Aura Sphere, Trick, Beat Up, Focus Blast, Psycho Cut, Inferno, Kowtow Cleave, Psychic Terrain, Focus Energy, Hex, Substitute, Blaze Kick, Imprison, Fire Blast, Stored Power, Shadow Ball, Taunt, Return, Frustration, Rest, Sleep Talk, Psyshock, Blast, Brutal Swing, Malevolent Shrine, Agility, Energy Ball, Lock-On, False Swipe, Mach Punch, Will-o-Wisp, Slash, Air Slash, Hyper Beam, Lash Out, Night Daze, Power Trip, Recover, Protect, Detect, Expanding Power, Power Trip, Sucker Punch, Nasty Plot, Fiery Dance, Curse, Spite, Low Kick, High Jump Kick

Signature Move: Malevolent Shrine
- Type: Dark
- Classification: Special
- Power: 25
- Accuracy:
- PP: 5 (Max 8)
- Effects: Hits four times. Targets opponents Pysical Defense instead of Special. Cannot be used twice in a row. Boosted by Sharpness.

Overview/Justification: Sukuna can fill in a lot of different wallbreaking and sweeping roles. At first glance he makes an excellent Special Sweeper. He can also serve as a Special or Physical wallbreaker with Band or Spec sets while the rocks weakness keeps those in check. A lack of pivoting moves prevents him from being an annoying fast pivot with tremendous breaking power. A lack of recovery means Sukuna can be outmaneuvered with smart play.

  • Regional Variation: "If you wanna play as my grown-up self from those flashbacks in The Legend of Korra or... well, how I was in the latter half of that show, swap out my Rock type for Steel instead, use Mold Breaker instead of Steelworker for my Hidden Ability, and mmmmmmaybe gimme higher Defense but lower Speed while you're at it? You could make a real good tank outta me at that age, y'know!"
  • Ability: Long Reach, Mind's Eye, Steelworker (Hidden)
  • Stats: 55 HP/125 Atk/85 Def/90 SpA/55 SpD/100 Spe = 510
  • Competitive moves: Accelerock, Agility, Brick Break, Bulldoze, Bullet Punch, Diamond Storm, Drain Punch, Drill Run, Earthquake, Earth Power, Hard Press, Headlong Rush, Head Smash, Iron Defense, Iron Head, Knock Off, Meteor Mash, Play Rough, Rock Polish, Spikes, Stealth Rock, Stone Edge, Taunt

  • Custom elements:
    • Earthbending (Rock, Physical, 100 BP, 16 PP max, 95% accuracy) - "Whaddya mean, Stone Edge has a one-in-five chance to whiff?! Do you know how hard it is for a Rock-type physical attacker to get a non-signature move above 80 Base Power that doesn't force them to aim like the blind person I am?! Ugh, heck with it, I'm doing this my way. Here, a Rock-type Flying Press clone that deals either Rock- or Ground-type damage depending on which is more effective! Single-target, doesn't make contact. Happy now, playerbase? Huh?!"
tumblr_o7me68qr2d1uhrnk4o2_500.gif

"I am the greatest Earthbender in the world! Don't you two dunderheads ever forget it!"
  • Z-Move: Metalbending (Physical, Steel, 200 BP, requires Meteor Mash) - "That boast quoted above was not for nothing - finding out that there's a lotta dirt particles even in refined metal was how I literally invented Metalbending! As such, this Z-move works like both Flying Press and my very own Earthbending move in that it deals either Steel- or Ground-type damage, again, depending on which is more effective."
Reasoning:
images

Anyway, Headlong Rush, Earthquake, Head Smash, Diamond Storm, Meteor Mash, Iron Head, Earthbending (and Metalbending)... I've even got a few support moves like Spikes, Stealth Rock and Taunt, and wand if I find myself up against somebody quicker, I can always boost my already solid Speed with Rock Polish or Agility, or maybe get someone else to lend me a speed boost.

Y'see, Ground/Rock was pooped on as a type combo for the longest time, and having given it some thought, I suppose it's 'cuz all the canon 'mons with those types are way too slow to take advantage of the offensive potential of both of them, which is why I decided to go for a speedier build so I could do just that. So... *sigh* Much as I hate to say it out loud, I'm really gonna need all the help I can get to keep myself relevant.

ab40cb3886b6b161494d03fe50f7fd3fa4e7c085.jpg

Times were different then, of course, but it's funny how this new version of Crossover Chaos Expanded has already given us a different playstyle for the King Under the Mountain, though that of course meant Falchion couldn't resubmit the build he had in mind for him. So we offered to repurpose that build just for this slate - and give it a couple of tweaks to fit the current competitive scene, while we were at it!"

    • Dragon Rider: "Because I so  stupidly cut off Toothless's tail fin in our first movie, he had to depend on me to fly up until the third one - though with the loss of my own foot, I'd consider us even! To reflect our once-forbidden friendship, I came up with an ability for the both of us that's basically a combo of Levitate and a slightly nerfed version of Parental Bond. That is, not only do we have an immunity to Ground-type attacks, but we can also attack twice in succession when we use an attacking move! This isn't without risk, though: the second attack will only hit with half the power of the first, and more importantly, if we're forced to land, such as when hit by Smack Down or after using Roost, both of these benefits will be gone until we re-enter battle, preferably by switching back in after we've made a hasty exit."

Simply put, what could possibly go wrong with dolling up the kit that Falchion had originally meant for Smaug - before Orangesodapop gave him a better one - so that those two moves were not only usable, but essential?

This is also what led me to replace all the abilities for Falchion's take on Smaug with a single custom ability in Dragon Rider, which I made the only one we have because of how much it can do with the two of us basically fighting as one. Of course, Toothless normally can't fly without my help - though I did, on two separate occasions, give him a replacement fin he could operate on his own - grounding us with stuff like Gravity, Smack Down, or Tricking us into receiving a Heavy Ball (or if Toothless himself uses Roost) will take away all the benefits of this ability, essentially leaving us ability-less until we make ourselves scarce!"

Thanks to our years of working together and understanding each other, we're practically a single Sweeper (with some bonus potential as a Lead or Cleaner) in two separate bodies, and with either Dragon Dance or Nasty Plot, we can boost either of our attack stats and make use of a variety of different STAB options: Dragon Rush, Dragon Claw, Draco Meteor, Charge Beam, Thunder, Thunder Fang, Supercell Slam, and Wild Charge, just to name a few! But yeah, I should also mention that our reliance on speed and attack power comes at the cost of both of our defenses, forcing us to rely on our speed alone to avoid getting hit by any hard-hitting attacks that Toothless would be weak to, and if worse comes to worse we may have to even run Volt Switch in case we need to get to safety... though the painful cost of losing all our hard-won boosts in the process isn't exactly worth it in my own very humble opinion!

I don't see why we couldn't take the risk with Supercell Slam and hope the potential crash damage doesn't do us in, but with Roost leaving us vulnerable to Earthquake until we switch out, I suppose it'd be too much of a gamble to stick around for the long game anyway.

So instead, I've decided to make use of my iconic assassin's daggers (and maybe any kitchen knives I've got handy at home, too...) with this Leaf Blade clone, complete with an increased critical hit ratio. Since my weapons can be thrown to the same effect as if I used them up close, this move won't make contact, and it also gets a 50% base power boost from Sharpness in the same way that Leaf Blade does. Oh! And speaking of which..."

Mega Evolution: "Upon donning my Mega Stone equivalent, which I'm unofficially dubbing the Gown of Thorns, my primary typing becomes changed to Steel, and my ability is replaced with Sharpness. My Attack stat actually wouldn't be buffed that much in my Thorn Princess identity, but for what it's worth, I'd also be slightly tougher defensively, at least on the physical side. It's my Speed that sees the most improvement, though, allowing me to outrun even Smaug to some degree - hopefully that'd give me the chance to make a tactical retreat before he even tries to burn me down!"

R-right?!

"The one major change I decided on for this slate specifically, as tough a call as it was to make in light of how much it affected my planned competitive role, was my typing (and that of my custom STAB move besides). There is precedent for Ghost as a secondary type for Pokémon that are very much not dead, with both Decidueye and the Hisuian Zorua line being less, well, that, and more like living users of spooky powers with additional themes of dread, mystery, and the termination of their victims' mortal coils - all of which definitely fit with my line of work!

Competitive Info:

"Regardless of the changes I had to make to my primary STAB options, my playstyle remains largely the same: swift, precise, and very, very deadly. As a dedicated Cleaner, with some potential as a Wallbreaker on the side, my impressive physical Attack and blinding Speed are backed up by a number of moves with an increased critical hit ratio, with my main STAB option in this regard being Shadow Claw - Poltergeist just didn't seem fitting in my mind. Despite arguably being my best STAB option if I had to stick to canon moves only, though, not only is its base power rather lacking, but it weirdly doesn't get a Sharpness boost, so my best bet STAB-wise would of course be my custom move, Assassinate, which can be considered an upgrade of Shadow Claw specifically with my Thorn Princess self's ability in mind.

Upon 'Mega-Evolving' as the meta would call it, I'd obviously be less reliant on the defensive strategies either of those Pokémon are known for, but my terrifying Speed buff and the Sharpness boost to my Assassinations in this 'form' more or less speak for themselves. I purposely avoided giving myself Swords Dance for this reason, and with such a high Attack stat as it is, I arguably wouldn't need it!

In space, no one can hear you scream.
i don't remem what i was searching. . . THIS is what i deserved to find tho

busy again but here are vetoes. if your sub is listed it is vetoed
insert subs here
slush puppy: literally why does it have fire and electric coverage. i can accept water 100% and even grass although even that is pushing it imo but realistically him having fire and electric coverage is just not warranted. also stealth rocks makes no sense. balance wise looks fine if you remove that stuff cuz 1) it makes sense 2) it likely overtunes him
rena rogue: you cannot give this battle bond it would have to be a sig ability. ngl i would probably just focus on making her work with battle bond and illusion cuz intreprid sword is very broken with being able to run an item on it. also the battle bond form is broken its literally better than ash greninja because of always boosted koff and also i think the attack stats need to go down by at least 20 points
insert subs here
toph: the earthbending move is super lame and makes it really hard to predict against her. honestly id just remove it. otherwise i really like her.
toothless: smack down is a shitty move that youre gonna be forcing on mons because of how broken this mon is with its ability. im not gonna lie i really just recommend you rework this one without the ability (give it just levitate and +10 spa or something) cuz outside of the broken ability it looks pretty solid imo
yor: the mega is broken because of sharpness. change the ability cuz like even without sharpness it might be overtuned because of how strong and fast she is (especially since she has parting shot too) with such a fantastic typing. poison heal is a cool idea but she is just way too frail to make it work even with her typing so shed rather just run moxie.

insert subs here
poison ivy: remove chloroblast. absolutely broken on her. also the sig move is crazy, id lower the bp of it to 80 so it actually has a drawback to use on her

insert subs here
shinobu: that insect breather ability boosting megahorn as much as it does is pretty ridiculous. id lower the boost down to 1.2x with the sig just because of how much power megahorn has normally, otherwise seems fine
caine: liked it until i saw the sig move, rage fist is ridiculous i dont know why we feel the need to clone it. also no volt switch on a special electric

insert subs here
kurapika: not finished. finish it or it wont be counted

insert subs here
homestar runner: mega is absolutely broken bc of victory dance espeed off of stab and 160/150 offensive stats (atk and speed). tbh i dont like this sub at all but if i were to balance the mega youd have to have it increase the attack by like at most 20-30 points (so like 110 or 120 attack max)

you have 72 hours to fix your stuff. if everything's fixed beforehand i will start voting early

CHANGELOG:
  • Toph's Earthbending: Flying Press clone (Rock and Ground) --> Physical Rock-type Thunderbolt clone, 10% chance to flinch
  • Toothless' ability: Levitate + Parental Bond (second attack at half power) that's lost when hit by a grounding effect--> Levitate as the normal ability, Dragon Rider is now his HA and boosts either Attack or Special Attack by one stage after knocking out an enemy, depending on which is higher
    • +20 Attack, +10 Special Attack, -10 each for Defense, Special Defense, and Speed
  • Yor's Mega ability: Sharpness --> Inner Focus

"Just sayin'. For my veto fix, I decided to go with changing Earthbending into a physical Rock-type Thunderbolt clone with the status being changed to flinching rather than paralysis. Simpler, a bit weaker than before, but just as effective and, more importantly, consistent. I am  keeping the dual type property for Metalbending, though - knowing how it started, that's absolutely essential!"

f1693cf9aaabcd240c55360af5fbb4aace8d3a34.jpg

"What was wrong with giving your Earthbending a high crit ratio like Plasma Blast or Assassinate?"

toph-atla.png

"Eh, didn't wanna copy your style."

8e770b17e842566a0474c6776eddde2f85da4d2b.jpg

"Fair enough. Anyway, Dragon Rider... Cool name, reeeeeally stupid ability effect in hindsight. And super complicated, even on paper. I decided to just split off the Levitate effect and have that be Toothless' primary ability, but I felt it'd be good to forge something entirely new for Dragon Rider itself as his Hidden Ability."

FXJXcRKWYAEd5_I.jpg

"Come to think of it, the stat buffs after each kill actually remind me of Moxie. I'm guessing your dragon will be able to snowball his power in the same way?"

44e4aeab2c15f8add98d486fdcc161230f0ae859.jpg

"Yep, though I actually based the new effect for Dragon Rider off of both Glastrier and Spectrier's abilities! But instead of just combining them, I decided to have it so the higher offensive stat gets a one-stage boost after each KO, the same way Beast Boost works, along with equalizing and slightly buffing our offensive stats (and nerfing the rest a tad to even things out). That way, Toothless can pick which side of the physical/special split to lean into, and I can plan our boosting moves accordingly."

18c862fb6f8411484311cf1019308ae0e84e6d76.jpg

"Hang on a sec. If you're goin' with that as its effect, wouldn't that mean you'd be stuck with a weakness to Ground?"

dk68sy7-b1caaa7e-a1e6-45f6-9ec9-da3200f5a34c.png

"I'd say it's a fair tradeoff. If Toothless (and Hiccup) were to run Dragon Rider, he'd need to take Ground-types into account and be ready to switch out if one shows up, costing them all their boosts, plus they don't have any answers to ground hazards like Toxic Spikes. While Levitate means they wouldn't have to worry about any of that, they wouldn't get the automatic boosts they might get from Dragon Rider, so they'd need to use their boosting moves a lot more before they can finish their clients off!"

3e5aff8f36c9186844dec4060e9ad324.jpg

"Yeah, exactly! How 'bout you, Yor?"

image_by_speedquirk_dlmz0bm-350t-2x.jpg

"I was completely surprised that the council thought Sharpness was too powerful for my ability as the Thorn Princess, but if they think it's overkill even for me, I won't contest it! I had a bit of a hard time trying to find a replacement that both made sense for me and wasn't as likely to ruin the meta for this mod, though - switching back to Super Luck would've led to me landing critical hits so often that it would've been no better than Sharpness, and my other choices were either Intimidate or Defiant as per how I act while on business."

e2ea2f5424b33d68395dfa3a5252c9db.jpg

"Defiant!? No, Yor, just... just  NO. That Attack boost effect would've probably gotten you kicked to Anything Goes, if not banned altogether!"

Image

"To be fair, I thought the same thing!"

5e7a5e48e77eb39aace44407ff543fcfd07399f3.jpg

"So, what was your final pick, anyhow?"

images

"Inner Focus, actually, shared with fellow hands-on Ghost-type Annihilape. Tempting as it was to go with Intimidate so I could get the drop on physical attackers, I thought it'd be better in the long run to maintain my momentum more freely. So while my Attack stat can still be lowered by certain moves, Intimidate itself won't work, and being also immune to flinching means I won't have to worry so much about being interrupted just before I strike!"

images

"Ooh, goin' all in on the stabbing, huh? Solid choice!"

images

"Aww, thank you! And great work on your applications as well! Good luck to you both!"

"Same to you! And on that note, there's one thing I think we all need to say to the readers. Ready?"

"The original slush since 1970. SLUSH PUPPiE is the iconic brand that consumers crave and rave about. Our SLUSH PUPPiE flavors use quality ingredients and tried-and-true recipes that are dog-gone delicious!"
Entry from the Slush Puppy website

    • Pokémon: Slush Puppie
    • Role: Lead
    • Franchise/Origin: Slush Puppie
    • Category: Advertising
    • Weight: 12.4 lbs.
    • Gender: Male
    • Type:

      normal.gif
    • Ability: Snow Warning/Dry Skin/Slush Rush
    • Stats: 72/65/79/120/78/140 (554)
    • Competitive moves: Aqua Jet,Blizzard,Body Slam,Crunch,Encore,Endure,Energy Ball,Facade,Giga Impact,Haze,Hyper Beam,Hyper Voice,Ice Beam,Ice Spinner,Icicle Spear,Liquidation,Mountain Gale,Protect,Rest,Seed Bomb,Sleep Talk,Snowscape,Solar Beam,Solar Blade,Spikes,Stealth Rock,Sticky Web,Substitute,Sunny Day,Super Fang,Surf,Take Down,Tera Blast
    • Flavor moves: Bite,Dig,Ice Fang,Ice Punch,Icy Wind,Mist,Powder Snow,Uproar,Water Pulse,Whirlpool

I'm a magical flying cat who always believes that everything should stay positive, and I definitley have the magic to keep it up...with all the crazy powers I've been showing off at Cloud Cuckoo Land and the Unikingdom, I bet I could whip up a healing spell in no time! As for my moveset, most of them are based off the various emotions I, uh, have.

    • Pokémon: Teggs

    • Ability: Gluttony/Download/Rock Head

    • Flavor moves: Breaking Swipe,Bulldoze,Charge,Cosmic Power,Electric Terrain,Iron Deluge,Mud Shot,Smack Down,Spark,Tackle
    • Custom elements: None
    [*]Reasoning:
"Howdy there! The name's Captain Teggs Horatio Stegosaur, commander of the DSS Sauropod! You may think that dinosaurs went extinct, but in reality they went up into space and explored the galaxy! As for me, as a Stegosaurus I'm pretty good natured with the Ground, and I wield several electrical weapons full of Steel courtesy of Iggy, including my signature tail spike!

"Hey, spider! What would you do if the man you supposedly don't love was about to fall from a great height?"
Rena Rouge
"A superhero would never allow THAT! She'd never put an innocent person in danger. I know what your power is. This is an ILLUSION, YOU'RE BLUFFING!"
Sadanansi
"Are you sure? Maybe I'm like you and I love no-one. So, who do you think is bluffing?"
Rena Rogue

    • Pokémon:
    • Role: Cleaner
    • Franchise/Origin: Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir
    • Category: Western Animation
    • Weight: 75.4 lbs.
    • Gender: Female
    • Type:

      fighting.gif
    • Ability: Illusion/Unify
    • Stats: 85/115/55/115/55/115 (540)
    • Competitive moves: Amnesia,Aura Sphere,Body Press,Brick Break,Close Combat,Competitive moves: X-Scissor,Darkest Lariat,Dazzling Gleam,Endure,Facade,False Surrender,Focus Blast,Foul Play,Giga Impact,Hyper Beam,Hyper Voice,Ice Spinner,Iron Head,Knock Off,Low Kick,Lunge,Outrage,Phantom Force,Play Rough,Protect,Psych Up,Rest,Shadow Ball,Shadow Claw,Skitter Smack,Sleep Talk,Substitute,Tailwind,Take Down,Taunt,Teleport,Tera Blast,Throat Chop,Thunderous Kick,Zen Headbutt

    • Custom elements: Unify: When Rena Rogue knocks out a Pokémon, she transforms into Renabug. As Renabug, Rena Rogue's stats become 85/145/55/145/55/125 (630), and Knock Off always has its power boost at all times.
    [*]Reasoning:
"I get the chance to be in Crossover Chaos with Ni_I mean, Carapace? That...is so...AWESOME! OK, OK, calm down, I gotta explain how I can access those moves...the power of Illusion is apparently an essence of darkness, and I'm pretty good at Fighting too! I'm slick like a fox, and I can create Mirages/Illusions of anything I'd wish, to make my opponents believe that I had Teleported or even given a false surrender! Oh, that reminds me, have you heard of Ladybug? I'm like totally her number one fan...in the future, I get to unify with her Miraculous of Creation, it's like a Battle Bond come to fruitition! And...wait...why do I have Outrage, again?" I'M SORRY I LIED TO YOU

    Competitive Info:

"I can serve two roles in your team...first, much like Zoroark, my power of Illusion can make your opponent worry about whether or not they're actually facing a real teammate, especially if they use a Psychic move on me...are there actually any in the metagame yet? They might know I'm coming thanks to Team Preview, but my wide variety of moves can ensure I can keep my cover as long as possible. The other option is to use me as a finisher...if I can get a kill with Battle Bond, it's pretty much over for the other team as I can then sweep with STAB Knock Off and Brick Break! ...Though, I do kinda find it ironic that my best matchup is against Carapace himself. My weaknesses are my poor defences and lack of recovery, meaning I can only really be used late into the match when your opponent's out of options to deal with me!"
OK, all of my veto changes are done, so Slush Puppy loses his Fire and Electric coverage, and Rena Rouge loses Intrepid Sword and, with a heavy heart, Battle Bond, because, turns out....
1785919438872.png

...It was actually SCARABELLA who transformed into Renabug, not Rena Rogue!
To compensate, I have given her Moxie and the useless Friend Guard instead. Enjoy!

Slate 2: Hyper Offense - VOTING ROUND
tumblr_inline_npvzbiDsUR1rr1xad_250.png

"With all vetos fixed and all auditions concluded for this slate, it's time for the moment of truth... or, well, the three days of it, anyway! For this voting round, we're gonna do something special: Because we had so many top-tier contestants in all four of the roles for this slate, you'll be voting for them separately! With that, here are our lovely finalists for each of these roles:"

Leads:
Wallbreakers:
Sweepers:
Cleaners:

tumblr_inline_npvzb5Hq8u1rr1xad_250.png

"In keeping with the voting pool being split up like this, you'll be voting for your personal top three picks for each role! This means you can pick only three contestants per role, with a point order of three points for first place, two points for second, and one for last place. In addition, as per the typical voting rules, you can cast only one self-vote across your entire submission, so if you submitted to more than one of the roles, you can only pick exactly one of your entries, and you'll have to put it in last place for the role they applied for!

"The format for your ballot should thus look like this:"

Leads:
First place
Second place
Third place

Wallbreakers:
First place
Second place
Third place

Sweepers:
First place
Second place
Third place

Cleaners:
First place
Second place
Third place

tumblr_inline_npvzaq3seP1rr1xad_250.png

"Hopefully this should be simple enough, yes? Anyway, best of luck to everbody, and may the best at each role win! Voting for this slate will close in 72 hours, so you have until 1 PM Central Time on Saturday, August 8 to get all your votes in, so make 'em count! Nineteen contestants have entered... but only four will leave!"
