[SET]
name: Shell Smash
move 1: Shell Smash
move 2: Stone Edge
move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Knock Off / X-Scissor
item: Heavy-Duty Boots
ability: Sturdy
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]
Crustle's sweeping potential with Shell Smash and the protection from Sturdy and Heavy-Duty Boots give it its place in the tier. However, its low Speed prior to boosting and somewhat poor special bulk give it little opportunity to set up, making it outclassed by other setup sweepers such as Klinklang and Cofagrigus. Earthquake is great coverage against the likes of Toxicroak and Garbodor. Knock Off allows Crustle to cripple Eviolite users like Clefairy, Piloswine, and Ferroseed, and it also allows Crustle to 2HKO Leftovers Cofagrigus at +2, while X-Scissor can be used in its place to OHKO Eldegoss at +2. Heavy-Duty Boots allows for Crustle to switch in and set up safely, but White Herb can be used to nullify the drops from Shell Smash. A combination of Solar Blade and Power Herb allows Crustle to lure in and KO Quagsire, Sandaconda, and Piloswine.
Crustle's best fit is on hyper offensive teams that have the capability to wear down its checks. Entry hazard support from Cursola and Drednaw allows Crustle to clean more easily. Sweepers such as Silvally-Dragon and Klinklang can help wear down shared checks with Crustle, such as Piloswine, Togedemaru, and Klinklang for the former and Silvally-Water and Sandaconda for the latter. Toxicroak and Indeedee-F are good wallbreakers that can support Crustle against its checks. Even after a Shell Smash boost, Quagsire still walls Crustle due to Unaware, so checks to it such as Indeedee-F and Abomasnow are helpful. Abomasnow can also set up Aurora Veil, allowing Crustle to set up more easily.
